Morons Who Defend Minecraft Theater Destruction Need To Get One Classic's Name Out Of Their Mouth
Image
"A Minecraft Movie" just celebrated its third weekend in theaters, continuing to bring in the big bucks (although it was dethroned this weekend by Ryan Coogler's "Sinners") and undoubtedly becoming one of the most memed films of the year. Unfortunately, the destructive and downright disgraceful practice of trashing theaters in response to Jack Black's Steve introducing the Chicken Jockey has continued. Theaters across the country are now starting to require parental chaperones for screenings of the PG-rated film in an attempt to quell the legitimate property damage being committed all in the name of "It's just a joke, bro."

Projectionists in theaters around the globe have similarly begun issuing pre-show warnings to try to quell the carnage, with Black even making surprise appearances at screenings to playfully tell the audience to resist throwing popcorn. One cinema worker posted their schedule on Twitter, writing, "I've just been informed that...

What David Bowies Death Had To Do With Celebrity Big Brothers Most Iconic Moment
Image
Your browser does not support the video tag. Tiffany Pollard's confusion over which David had died created an iconic TV moment on Celebrity Big Brother. David Gest's extensive eye surgery led houseguests to mistakenly believe he had died in his sleep. The aftermath of the incident led to a museum exhibition and Tiffany Pollard selling 'David is Dead' t-shirts.

In 2016, season 17 of Celebrity Big Brother gave the world one of the most iconic reality TV moments in Big Brother history.

Celebrity Big Brother Season 17 was eventually won by Geordie Shore star Scotty T, but the series featured a stellar line-up, that included British reality TV heavyweights, including Gemma Collins, Stephanie Davis, Jeremy McConnell, Megan McKenna, Christopher Maloney, and Darren Day.

This season of Celebrity Big Brother is remembered for the standout moment involving David Gest, Angie Bowie, Tiffany 'New York' Pollard, and the late David Bowie.

Featuring Gal Gadot as the titular DC character, not only were her solo and team adventures well received but fans also loved the casting choice.

Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in Wonder Woman

Yet, it seems with the end of Snyder’s run in the DC realm, Gadot’s run as Diana Prince has also ended and fans now want other actresses to take up the mantle of the demigod. Unused Daredevil TV Show Costume Proves Just How Perfect The McU's Is
Image
Daredevil's integration into the MCU has been successful, with appearances in multiple shows and upcoming series in Phase 5. An unaired 1975 TV show featuring Daredevil and Black Widow demonstrates the difficulties of translating his iconic costume to live-action. The McU's well-crafted and grounded portrayal of Daredevil's costume surpasses previous attempts, highlighting the successful adaptation of his devilish appearance.

The character of Daredevil was one the subject of a canceled Marvel TV show, with the costume for this project proving how perfect the Man Without Fear has looked in the MCU. Since 2015, Daredevil has been a part of the MCU through his original Netflix TV show. While the canon status of the Netflix Marvel TV shows has always been in doubt, Daredevil was reintegrated properly with MCU canon in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Since then, Daredevil has appeared in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and will headline his own series in the McU's Phase 5 with Daredevil: Born Again.

Scrapped Marvel TV Shows We're Sad We'll Never See
Image
Marvel has had numerous scrapped TV shows throughout its history, including potential adaptations of Namor, Black Widow and Daredevil, and Thor and Daredevil spinoffs. The 1978 TV film adaptation of Dr. Strange received negative reviews and low ratings, leading to the cancellation of plans for a spinoff TV show. Other canceled shows include a Captain America animated series, a Daughters of the Dragon live-action series, a comedic New Warriors TV show, and an animated Marvel Era series that would have celebrated Marvel's 75th anniversary.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a dominant force on television and in cinemas for well over a decade, yet Marvel has numerous scrapped TV shows that would have been fascinating to see. Marvel quickly cemented itself as one of the two most popular and influential comic publishers in the early 1960s when, thanks to characters like the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man, Marvel challenged and defied the accepted norms of superhero fiction.

The 50 greatest TV episodes of all time, from This is England to I May Destroy You
Image
Television shows are, inevitably, made up of parts. On the surface, there’s the great, overarching story that begins with the first shot and ends with the last. But, within that narrative, there are small parts: the series, and the episode. It is the smallest of these sub-divisions, the episode, that is most intriguing. A truly brilliant episode can bridge the gap between cinema and TV. It can refine the essence of the best shows into a single, self-contained moment. At its most potent, a perfect episode is like mainlining all the myriad ingredients of prestige television in a single sitting.

But great TV shows do not necessarily beget great episodes and, conversely, great episodes are not always the sign of a great show. The start of 2023 has been dominated by discussions about The Last of Us, a perfectly good series including one stunning episode. In it, two supporting characters...

Tiffany and Angie competed on Celebrity Big Brother UK season 17 along with celebrities like David Gest, Gemma Collins, and friend of the Kardashians, Jonathan Cheban. Unfortunately, while on the show, Angie's ex-husband passed away from cancer. Tiffany noticed she looked upset, so Angie confided in her and asked her not to tell anyone. David Bowie’s ‘Divine Symmetry’ Box Set Shows How He Made ‘Hunky Dory’ His Mission Statement
Image
Five years after the release of David Bowie’s first masterpiece, Hunky Dory — which replaced the perception of Bowie as a one-hit space oddity with the idea Bowie as an ever-ch-ch-changing moon-age messiah — he offered up some characteristic mythmaking. In a 1976 Melody Maker interview, Bowie claimed Hunky Dory‘s “Song for Bob Dylan,” a piss-take extraordinaire that Bowie had shrugged off by saying it was how “some” people saw Dylan, in fact, “laid out what I wanted to do in rock.” “It was at that period that I said, ‘Ok,...

‘Stardust’ Review: Rock & Roll Biopic Suicide
Image
In 1971, David Bowie was at a crossroads. His third album, The Man Who Sold the World, hadn’t been received as the star-making breakthrough he thought it would be. His wife, Angela, was getting impatient regarding his lack of fame and fortune. The singles has barely charted. It had stiffed commercially in both the U.K. and the U.S., though it was beginning to attract a little critical attention in the States. So his label, Mercury, decided to send Bowie on a promotional tour of America. He wasn’t...

‘Stardust’ Trailer: Johnny Flynn Transforms Into David Bowie in Upcoming Drama
Image
David Bowie’s life and career are memorialized in the new trailer for “Stardust” starring Johnny Flynn from IFC Films.

“Stardust” will examine the life of Bowie before he became one of the most iconic artists in the history of music. The drama is set in 1971, when Bowie was 24 and journeying on his first trip to America with his struggling publicist Ron Oberman, played by Marc Maron. During this period, Bowie created his alter-ego Ziggy Stardust, a turning point in his legendary career that marked the beginning of his meteoric rise.

Johnny Flynn, singer and songwriter for the band Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit, will portray Bowie. His previous acting credits include Autumn de Wilde’s “Emma” from earlier this year, “Beast” in 2017, the 2014 drama “Clouds of Sils Maria” and more.

Fellow cast members include Maron, Aaron Poole as Bowie’s guitarist Mick Ronson, Roanna Cocharne, Jorja Cadence, Annie Briggs,...

First Trailer for 'Stardust' About David Bowie's First Visit to the U.S.
Claire Danes, Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Dexter Fletcher, Rab Affleck, Adam Fogerty, Ricky Gervais, Mark Strong, Charlie Cox, Carlos Peres, Spencer Wilding, Terry Murphy, and Jordan Long in Stardust (2007)
"All it takes is one believer to change the world, and we got two!" IFC Films has unveiled the first official trailer for Stardust, taking us back in time to the 1970s to meet a young rock star in the making. The film chronicles the young David Bowie's first visit to the U.S. in 1971 - a trip that inspired the invention of his iconic alter ego Ziggy Stardust. Stardust is a David Bowie movie that stars musician and actor Johnny Flynn as Bowie, with Marc Maron playing Mercury Records publicist Ron Oberman and Jena Malone as Angie Bowie, his partner at the time. It’s not a cradle-to-grave biopic – instead, it’s a slice of his life in 1971 at the age of 24 during a publicity tour where he was inspired to create the Ziggy persona. The cast includes Aaron Poole, Paulino Nunes, and Anthony Flanagan. There's also an...

Johnny Flynn in Stardust (2020)
‘Stardust’: Film Review
Johnny Flynn in Stardust (2020)
In “Stardust,” a movie that dramatizes David Bowie’s road trip across America in 1971, David (Johnny Flynn), several years into his career but still, in terms of image, a bit of a leftover hippie rocker, finds himself performing at a convention of vacuum-cleaner salesmen. It seems that his manager back in England had failed to secure him a U.S. work visa. So even though he’s supposed to be touring the States, he can’t give concerts, can’t perform on television or radio. But his publicist from Mercury Records, Ron Oberman (Marc Maron), has lined up press interviews and figured out how to sneak in some third-rate gigs.

“Stardust” opens with a title that says “What follows is (mostly) fiction,” and if you want to know how that rather inauspicious promise translates, it’s there in the moment when Bowie gets up in front of the vacuum salesmen and says,...

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Iman, their 15-year-old daughter Lexi, and his son Duncan Jones, 44, from his first marriage to Angela Bowie. Shortly after Bowie's death, Duncan returned from New York to L.A., a source close to the family tells People. "Very sorry and sad to say it's true. I'll be offline for a while.

Celebrity Big Brother (2001)
David Bowie’s Death Creates an Insane, Surreal Level of Chaos on British Celebrity Big Brother
Celebrity Big Brother (2001)
Strap on your safety helmets, because you're going to want to run your head straight into a wall after this. On the U.K.'s Celebrity Big Brother, one of the contestants, Angie Bowie, ex-wife of late, great starman David Bowie, had just learned of her ex-husband's death. She was understandably distraught, which perhaps led her to make the ill-advised decision to relay the news to fellow housemate Tiffany "New York" Pollard, of VH1 fame. When Angie tells her, "David's dead," however, Tiffany assumes this to mean their other surreal-life celebrity housemate David Gest, who is actually just napping upstairs, and promptly begins to lose her mind. Pandemonium ensues as she spreads the misinformation like the town Drudge Report.A lot of viewers are upset at Celebrity Big Brother (including one Piers Morgan) for what they see as the show exploiting Bowie's death for ratings, even though Angie Bowie consented...

However, one person who had no trouble nominating...

CBB's Tiffany Pollard hysterical after wrongly believing David Gest has died
The 'Celebrity Big Brother' house was cast into panic when Tiffany Pollard mistakenly thought fellow housemate David Gest had died. After Angie Bowie was privately informed of the death of her former husband David Bowie, she told Tiffany, ''David's dead'', leading to the mix up. A confused Tiffany quickly became hysterical as she wrongly believed Angie meant music producer David Gest, also a contestant on the show, and not Angie's former husband. Daniella Westbrook eventually managed to calm Tiffany down and told her, ''she means her ex-husband, David''. Angie was informed of the death in private and opted to remain on the...

'He Would Sit Here Scribbling Away': Inside David Bowie's Quiet Life of Café and Bookstore Visits in N.Y.C.
David Bowie
David Bowie was one of the most beloved - and recognized - stars in the world, but off the stage, he lived a quiet and low-key life with his family in Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood. "He was a very reserved person, very kind in the eyes," Danielo Durante, who owns local Italian café Bottega Falai, tells People about Bowie, who died Sunday from cancer at the age of 69. "He would sit here and write, scribbling away in a little notebook. Considering how he was singing and acting on stage - a rockstar, you know - he was a normal guy." Over the years,...

10 Thoughts on David Bowie
1. It's always hard to write on deadline, of course, and it's possible that, if the New York Times didn't have a Bowie obituary ready, poor Jon Pareles was up all night writing one. But one of his editors should have made sure that the words gay or bisexual appeared in the piece that resulted. I'm sure David Bowie wasn't the first gay rocker, but he was the first male star to be open and matter-of-fact about the idea of sleeping with other men. He eventually got married, of course, to the formidable Angela Bowie, née Barnett*, but this part of his persona undoubtedly limited his appeal. One of the dirty little secrets of the 1960s was that sexism and homophobia were prevalent. Bowie forced the rock world to confront this part of the audience's life. It was not only brave, but done in such a matter-of-fact way that it carried...

Is There Life on Mars?
I was gutted by the news shared by playwright/producer Jeff Cohen as he and I walked our dogs in Riverside Park early this morning. The Thin White Duke was no more. I struggled to understand the implications of losing a music hero. Rushing home, resigned to reality, I watched his two new videos, the one above and the ablum's title track which I featured on this website last week, both from his 28th studio album, ★(Blackstar), released this past week on January 8th, 2016, the date of Bowie's 69th birthday. As I watched "Lazarus" again, it all made sense.

"Lazarus" is clearly Bowie's epitaph, his final prophetic performance on this mortal coil...

Look up here / I'm in heaven I've got scars that can't be seen I've got drama that can't be stolen Everybody knows me now...

The coins on his eyes, the pallor of his skin, his frail body wrapped in a fashionalbe shroud.
