Former Fox President Julie Rieger Named CEO of VUniverse Streaming Platform
Zach Tyler Eisen, Mae Whitman, and Jack De Sena in Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005)
Julie Rieger, who formerly served as Fox’s president, chief data strategist and head of media, has been named chief executive of VUniverse, a new platform aiming to help viewers trim the time they spend scrolling through titles and select a show or movie they want to stream, on Monday.

Rieger joins VUniverse after spending more than a decade as a top executive at Fox, before leaving the company last year. During her run at Fox, Rieger helped bring major releases like “Avatar,” “Deadpool” and “Hidden Figures” to the silver screen.

She’ll now be working to expand VUniverse, which launched last year, and looks to pull in more users who are tired of spending too much time looking for the right thing to stream across their handful of services.

“We are focused on developing Vu as the central hub for every viewer’s streaming needs. Our mission is to...

Startup VUniverse Looks To Guide Streaming Viewers Overwhelmed By Algorithms
Image
Exclusive: An emerging startup called VUniverse is setting out to answer an increasingly vexing question in the go-go streaming age: How do you find something to watch?

While most viewers rely on a patchwork of digital solutions, VUniverse, which has just concluded a beta release, aims to be a more approachable and comprehensive “channel guide for the streaming universe.” It will use AI tools, but will also rely on word-of-mouth and human recommendations, aiming to provide an independent voice in what it sees as a cacophony of agenda-filled promotions by tech platforms.

The team launching the company brings an interesting cross-section of experience to put behind the launch. CEO and co-founder Evelyn Watters created the Golden Trailer Awards with her sister, Monica Brady, who is COO and co-founder of VUniverse. They are joined by Chief Data Strategist Julie Rieger, who held a number of senior exec posts at 20th Century Fox...

Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga in A Star Is Born (2018)
