Warner Bros. and HBO Max have released the first trailer for “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” the sequel to the blockbuster 1996 comedy that featured NBA superstars alongside Looney Tunes characters. Stepping into Michael Jordan’s kicks this time around is LeBron James, who spearheaded the title’s return under his production company SpringHill Entertainment. Though he played a comedic role in Amy Schumer’s “Trainwreck,” “Space Jam 2” marks his first foray into leading man territory, where he plays a fictionalized version of himself in the live-action/animated sports comedy.

Shawn Bradley, the former NBA player who appeared in the original “Space Jam” movie, has been left paralyzed after a January bicycle accident that occurred just one block from his Utah home.

Bradley, who is 7-foot-6, was hit by a car while riding his bike. The accident caused “a traumatic spinal cord injury.” After undergoing neck fusion surgery, Bradley has spent the past eight weeks in a hospital.

In a joint statement from Bradley and his former (main) NBA team, the Dallas Mavericks, the Byu alum was said to be “in good spirits.” The statement continued: “He plans to use his accident as a platform to bring greater public awareness to the importance of bicycle safety.”

Everybody get up, it’s time to slam now because “Space Jam 2” has an official title, thanks to NBA superstar LeBron James.

On Thursday, the Lakers player posted a video of himself wearing a hat on his Instagram with the logo of “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” the apparent title of the Looney Tunes sequel. It was reposted by the film’s official Twitter page later that day.

You can officially stop calling it “Space Jam 2.” In an Instagram post Thursday, LeBron James revealed the title for the sequel to the Looney Tunes-Meets-Basketball film along with the film’s logo.

The sequel is now titled “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” and the film’s release date is still set for 2021.

The 1996 original film starred Michael Jordan playing basketball alongside Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig and the rest of the Looney Tunes gang. “Space Jam: A New Legacy” updates the premise with LeBron James leading the cast, and major current NBA stars are expected to make cameos. It also stars Don Cheadle.

And today we have word that original Space Jam star Charles Barkley isn't a fan of the idea of the upcoming sequel. A lot of fans are excited about Warner Bros.’ Space Jam 2, but apparently a lot of the NBA athletes aren’t. According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, Lebron James, who will star in and produce the movie, is having trouble recruiting players to be in the movie. After 18 years Space Jam is actually going to get a sequel. This time around it will star NBA superstar Labron James. Space Jam was released in 1996 and it starred Michael Jordan and a few other NBA players such as Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Danny Ainge, Tyron “Muggsy” Bogues, Vlade Divac, Cedric Ceballos, Larry Johnson, Shawn Bradley and Paul West acting along side Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig and the rest of the Looney Tunes gang.

The first Space Jam movie made over $230 million, and I'm surprised they didn't make a sequel sooner. Space Jam was kind of a terrible film, but I can't deny that it was a ton of fun to watch. Space Jam 2 is in the works, with the NBA's LeBron James in line to star.

Warner Bros. is developing a screenplay for the project with the production firm of brothers Charlie and Willie Ebersol, The Company, according to Deadline.

The original movie was released 18 years ago and starred Michael Jordan alongside characters from the Looney Tunes universe. Bill Murray, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Shawn Bradley and Muggsy Bogues also appeared.

The sequel has been rumoured to feature James, who currently plays for the Miami Heat.

Charlie Ebersol, whose sports series NFL Characters Unite airs on USA Network, will produce, while Willie will write the screenplay. Willie previously won an Emmy for the London Olympics.

Meanwhile, James has a couple of other Hollywood projects in development.

His new comedy show Survivor's Remorse was recently given a series order by Starz, while he's also signed on to star with Kevin Hart in an upcoming basketball-themed comedy film.

In August of 2012, LeBron James was asked what he thought of Space Jam, and he tweeted, "I love that movie. Wish I could do Space Jam 2!." Guess what LeBron, it looks like you got your wish.
