Tim Allen’s classic ‘90s sitcom/anti-drug psyop Home Improvement is now available on Netflix for everyone to… “enjoy” feels like the wrong word.
The show’s new streaming availability has at least been leading some viewers to make new discoveries concerning the show, and not just because we can now freeze frame any scene we like to try and catch a glimmer of co-star Patricia Heaton’s deep resentment of her wildly overpaid TV husband.
Someone has just discovered a hilarious meta-joke within the show — but it was almost certainly a complete accident.
In the Season Four episode “Talk to Me,” Allen was joined by guest stars Dave Chappelle and Jim Breuer, forming the perfect trifecta of comedians who currently specialize in promoting garbage opinions. The pre-fame Dave and Jim played, well, “Dave” and “Jim,” two Tool Time audience members who are having relationship problems and end up being...

Saturday Night Live’s upcoming 50th anniversary special will no doubt bring back a number of past characters, as long as they weren’t played by Joe Piscopo or Jim Breuer, we assume. The show doesn’t air until February, but SNL’s nostalgia-fest has already begun. Yes, two beloved cast members just revived two beloved SNL characters — but it was all in the service of promoting a credit card company.
Molly Shannon and Ana Gasteyer’s soft-spoken “Delicious Dish” hosts are best known for the time they interviewed Pete Schweddy about his coveted balls.
Then, of course, there was the time the pair went to town on Florence Dusty’s yeasty muffins.
And now they’re back! And they’re hawking credit cards! Margaret Jo McCullen and Teri Rialto just showed up in a commercial for Capital One, interviewing the company’s celebrity spokesman, Samuel L. Jackson. Weirdly, the ad takes place,...

At first glance, “Martha Stewart’s Home for the Holidays” appeared to be a promo for a regular Martha Stewart special — until the subtitle popped up that read, “Topless Christmas Special.” From there, Stewart did a variety of normal, Martha Stewart-type things, like setting a holiday table and making beeswax candles. The only difference was that she was nude from the waist up, with a black censor bar covering her breasts.
Starring Ana Gasteyer as Stewart, “Martha Stewart’s Home for the Holidays: Topless Christmas Special,” is one of SNL’s most beloved holiday sketches. It was co-written by Gasteyer and writer Norm Hiscock, the latter of whom recently jumped on the phone with me to talk about the making of a true holiday classic.

‘I’ll Do It If She’s Topless’
The way the sketch began was that Ana Gasteyer was looking to do a sketch with Martha Stewart.

Jenny Slate is an acclaimed author, a hilarious stand-up comedian, a movie star, and she’s lent her voice to all-time great animated shows like Bob’s Burgers and Big Mouth, not to mention the Oscar-nominated Marcel the Shell with Shoes On. And oh, she was also briefly on some sketch series that airs on Saturday nights. Kind of like Mad TV, except live and based out of New York.
Even though her time at Saturday Night Live was fleeting, and she’s done so much great work since then, Slate seems to get asked about the show quite a bit. Most recently, she appeared on the podcast The Last Laugh with Matt Wilstein, and the host couldn’t help but point out that it’s been 15 years since Slate’s lone season of SNL began.

Comic and podcaster Marc Maron is calling out his peers who use their positions to drive what he terms “the new fascism” just a day after right-wing comedian Tony Hinchcliffe made racist and sexist jokes at Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally.
Other comics also slammed Hinchcliffe who, among other things, called Puerto Rico “a floating island of garbage.”
Tweeted Michael Ian Black, “I think America just found its next Jim Breuer!”
Maron’s statement, posted in full on his Wtf With Marc Maron website and shared in part on social media, did not specifically name Hinchcliffe, but the message seems clear.
Writes Maron: “The anti-woke flank of the new fascism is being driven almost exclusively by comics, my peers. Whether or not they are self-serving or true believers in the new fascism is unimportant. They are of the movement. Whether they see themselves as acolytes or just comics doesn’t matter.

Comedians generally don’t have good experiences opening for music acts but don’t count Jim Breuer among that group. He seems thrilled to have been the opener for his heroes Metallica even though the heavy metal legends had an unusual request for the comedian: Don’t do comedy.
When Metallica made its initial ask about Breuer working as the band’s opening act, the comic was stoked, he told Alabama news outlet Al.com. But he wasn’t necessarily expecting the follow-up request that he not do stand-up. The comic didn’t get it. If he didn’t tell jokes, then what would he do? “Sort of just entertain the crowd before we come up. You know, like maybe shoot off T-shirts and stuff like that.”
Ask a comedian not to do comedy? Breuer needed clarification, so he sought out the counsel of drummer Lars Ulrich: “Jim, you’ve...

The Biden administration announced this week that it’s taking broad actions to stop Russian schemes designed to influence the 2024 elections. As part of the effort, it’s shutting down a company called Social Design Agency, “which the Treasury Department previously sanctioned for allegedly running fake news sites in Europe on behalf of the Russian government.”
The government released Social Design Agency internal documents that detail its plans to influence the election, including spreading disinformation in swing states and monitoring the accounts of people it considers “influencers,” including comedians. That caught the attention of Redditor cannonfunk who posed a question to the r/StandUpComedy subreddit: “The Russians are actively targeting comedians who might be easily bribed to spread their propaganda. Who do you think was on the list?”

Saturday Night Live has undoubtedly aired a number of sketches that verged on tastelessness, up to and including the time Oscar-winner Tom Hanks laid down a groovy track about how he doesn’t want anyone to mutilate his junk. Or the sketch in which Prince Charles gets transmogrified into a tampon. And the less said about “Canteen Boy” the better.
Far surpassing those sketches in terms of questionable taste, SNL arguably crossed a big line back in 1997 during an episode hosted by Rob Lowe, with musical guests The Spice Girls.
Normally, an episode featuring the villain from Wayne’s World and the girl group who gave us “Wannabe” would be a decidedly lighthearted affair. But right from the jump, the show decided to wade into controversial waters, with a cold open focused on the Heaven’s Gate death cult.

Legendary daytime talk show host Phil Donahue passed away last night at the age of 88 after a long illness. Donahue practically invented many conventions that are now talk-show staples, such as walking into the audience and interacting with its members. As his show took off in the 1970s, he also tackled issues that no other talk show dared touch. “If there had been no Phil Donahue Show, there would be no Oprah Winfrey show,” Winfrey said in 2002. “He was the first to acknowledge that women are interested in more than mascara tips and cake recipes — that we’re intelligent, we’re concerned about the world around us and we want the best possible lives for ourselves.”
Donahue’s signature cadence, dramatic mannerisms and audience interactions not only made for engaging TV but a go-to impression for three generations of Saturday Night Live cast members.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? Easy to say until you’re the one Saturday Night Live is mocking.
What happens when SNL impressionists are forced to reckon with the consequences of their comedy? Lucky for the comics, most spoofed celebrities enjoy being in on the joke. But as you’ll see in these five examples, that isn’t always the case…
1 Jim Breuer and Joe Pesci
If you don’t count Goat Boy — and who does, really? — Joe Pesci was Breuer’s most popular character. Breuer played him nine times as host of the fictional Joe Pesci Show, portraying the actor as the Mafia goon he played in movies like Goodfellas.
“I grew up with some characters so I know that world exists,” Breuer explained on the Opie & Anthony Show. And when Pesci showed up for a cameo on SNL, he lived up to that reputation during a backstage visit with Breuer.

“Abba Zabba, you my only friend!” Imagine they made a Half Baked 2. That sounds like a slam dunk, right? After all, the original didn’t set the box office on fire, but it’s presumably made a mint on home video. Well, it looks like Universal finally pulled the trigger on a Half Baked 2, but of the original cast, the only person to return is Rachel True, who played the love interest, Mary Jane. Yes folks, it happened, and the sequel, Half Baked: Totally High, is going straight to Blu-ray, with an April 16th release date.
All this begs the question, why, twenty-five years later, make a Half Baked sequel without either Dave Chappelle, an infinitely bigger star now than he was in 1998, and Jim Breuer? Chappelle, I kind of get – the man is busy and would probably cost millions and millions to get, but Jim Breuer? Could...

The Disney Channel series Liv and Maddie was a TV show that was popular since its first season. It premiered in 2013, and the series continued until its fourth season, which gave a good closure to the story.

In addition, the episodes were cut as a documentary or reality show, where the characters talk off-stage about the events of the series.

The upcoming stoner comedy sequel Half Baked 2 will feature Rachel True reprising her original role. True played Mary Jane Potman in the 1998 film Half Baked, which starred Dave Chappelle, Jim Breuer, Harland Williams, and Guillermo Díaz, as a group of friends who love smoking weed. She is the love interest for Chappelle's character Thurgood, which presents a problem considering the fact that - despite her suggestive name - she is vehemently anti-drug.
Per Deadline, Half Baked 2 has just wrapped production in Baton Rouge. The film, which will be released non-theatrically in 2023, has announced that True (who is perhaps known for her role in the 1996 teen film The Craft) officially reprised the role of Mary Jane. So far, she is the only returning cast member who has been confirmed to appear in a major role, though Williams is also set to make a special appearance.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched “The Masked Singer” Season 6, Episode 6, “Time Warp,” which aired October 20 on Fox.
It’s been thirty years since he was making copies on “Saturday Night Live.” Now, Rob Schneider has been revealed as the Hamster — Hamming it up, the Ham-star, the Hamsterminator, Masked Over My Hammy, Hams-i-Am, M.C. Hamster — on Fox’s “The Masked Singer.” Schneider had been disguised as the Hamster, but was unmasked at the end of the sixth episode of Season 6, “Time Warp.”
“It’s the most fun I’ve ever had on television,” Schneider told Variety. “Without the pressure of being on ‘Saturday Night Live’ or carrying a sitcom, it was the most fun for TV. I think ten years ago, I would have done better at it, hold a note a little bit better. But they have a vocal coach, and it does help.

Aarp is no stranger to producing video content.
The non-profit’s in-house production company Aarp Studios premiered the six-episode “Date My Grandma” on its YouTube channel last year. Aarp Studios is now officially in the movie business with its first feature film “Care to Laugh,” a documentary that follows comedian Jesus Trejo as he builds his comedy career while taking care of his elderly parents. Th film made the festival rounds in 2018 and Aarp has teamed with distributor Gravitas Ventures to release the doc today on VOD.

A sequel to Dave Chappelle’s stoner comedy Half Baked has been on the cards since late last year and those plans won’t be going up in smoke, from the look of things. This week, the project was chosen as one of the recipients of the $40 million in tax credit allocated by the California Film Commission, which should help it move forward as planned.
According to MovieWeb, production on the sequel will need to begin in the next 180 days to make it eligible for the state tax credit. The same report also revealed some extra tidbits about the follow-up, confirming that it will take place in Los Angeles and follow the son of Chappelle’s Thurgood Jenkins from the first film.

Half Baked 2 is getting closer to becoming a reality. The sequel was among a dozen projects selected earlier this week to receive part of a $40 million in tax credit allocated by the California Film Commission. According to the state tax credit, production needs to begin within the next 180 days, and for Half Baked 2, that will take place in Los Angeles. It was revealed at the end of last year that MacGyver reboot star Justin Hires was putting together the screenplay for the sequel.
As for who will be involved in Half Baked 2, that is unclear at the moment. Dave Chappelle will more than likely have nothing to do with the project after revealing his disappointment in the first installment. In 2014, Chappelle said, "Half Baked didn't come out the way I wanted it to come out. I was real upset about that, cause it was a real cool script." He seems...

A sequel to the 1998 stoner comedy movie Half Baked is apparently in the works, as comedian Justin Hires has announced he is writing the screenplay for the project. An actor, musician, and comedian, Hires is perhaps best known for his starring role on MacGyver, though his interest in writing has also led him to penning Half Baked 2. "Excited to announce I'll be writing the sequel to Half Baked," Hires says on his Instagram account, confirming reported rumors of his involvement. He adds: "Yes I know the original is a classic and yes this sequel will be [fire] because I'm writing it. Oh yeah, I write screenplays too."
On his Instagram post, Justin Hires links to a story from Comedy Hype reporting on Hires' involvement with Half Baked 2. This seems to confirm there's some truth to the rumored storyline details from that article, giving us an idea of how the planned sequel will play out.

How a 1993 indie hit from Kevin Smith gave birth to an unlikely franchise...
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
In 1993, Kevin Smith made a movie. Clerks was shot in black and white over the course of three weeks, at night, in the convenience store where Smith worked during the day, on a shoestring budget of $27,575. Smith funded the film himself by dipping into his savings, selling all his comics and maxing out several credit cards.
Even though it became an indie phenomenon when it was picked up by Miramax (who gave it a new soundtrack using a post-production budget that was ten times the cost of principal photography) at the 1994 Sundance Film Festival, it doesn't have 'franchise starter' written all over it.

Who doesn’t want to watch detective Joaquin Phoenix stumbling around Los Angeles trying to solve the disappearance of his former girlfriend while fried out of his mind? “Inherent Vice” has a stoner protagonist so funny and oddly charming that he could be the proud face of 4/20. But a lot of what makes the movie such a perfect stoner film is how Paul Thomas Anderson filters Thomas Pynchon’s novel through his own hazy, stoned-out filter. Watching “Inherent Vice” provides the actual sensation of being spaced out. You’ll be laughing nonstop one minute and then scratching your head the next. Long stretches seem to fade into each other. When it comes to stoner movies, “Inherent Vice” is a new classic.

Last March, director Kevin Smith revealed that he is making a sequel to his 1995 comedy Mallrats, with the filmmaker teasing the addition of practically every main cast member from the original movie. Last May, the filmmaker said that the sequel will be called MallBrats, and that he has a completed script, with another report from September revealing that shooting would begin in January 2016. That was the last we heard about the project, but during a new radio interview, the filmmaker revealed that this sequel has now transformered into a TV series.
Kevin Smith explained in a previous update that he would shoot Mallrats 2 at the Exton Square Mall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but as he revealed in a radio interview with Philadelphia's Wmmr, his plan hit a big snag. The director's agent originally told him that Universal would likely just let the rights to Mallrats go for the director to make a sequel.

Many in the hard rock world were shook all night long when word came out that AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson was told by doctors to stop touring immediately because he faces major hearing problems. But just days removed from this announcement, Johnson is changing his tune, and it's starting to look like he was booted from the band. According to Johnson’s friend, comedian and broadcaster Jim Breuer, the singer “feels like he just kind of got kicked to the curb.” Breuer broke the news during an interview on The Metal In Me podcast. Breuer added, “He was depressed. I’ve never seen him down before. He’s really depressed.” This is the second departure from the legendary band in recent years. In 2014, founding member and guitarist Malcolm Young had to retire due to dementia. Johnson joined AC/DC in 1980 following the death of the band’s then lead singer Bon Scott.

You may know that director Kevin Smith's first film Clerks spawned the Clerks animated TV series in 2000, although it only ran for one season. What you may not know is that, five years earlier, the indie hit was actually adapted for a live action TV pilot, starring Jim Breuer as Randall Graves and Andrew Lowery as Dante Hicks. The pilot was never picked up as a TV series, and now you can see why, since the full Clerks pilot has now surfaced online.
The pilot also features a few more faces you may recognize. I have written previously in this space about my unabashed adoration of Howard Stern, but even casual fans know that the King of All Media's skillful long-form interviewing style is one of his most enduring qualities. He conducts hard-hitting interrogations that feel like casual conversations, leading normally guarded celebrities to offer revelations and opinions they would probably never utter in another forum. This year alone, he has helped draw out newsworthy bites from a number of big stars, and with 2015 more than half over, I thought I'd recap the wildest, most revealing quotes that have come out of Studio 69 in the past six months and change (with attendant clips). Here we go... 1. I don't have a lot of friends who listen to "Howard Stern, and many of them are baffled by my obsession with the King of All Media. I suppose the fact that I'm a gay man has something to do with this, given that Howard is traditionally viewed as a straight-male icon. But I love him, I listen to every second of his show and I will continue to do so until he chooses to retire (a distinct looming possibility given that his contract with Sirius is up at the end of the year). I'll admit: I'm a latecomer to the Stern universe. I didn't become a regular listener until about six years ago (i.e. the very tail end of the Artie era) and missed out on the "Golden Age" terrestrial years -- though the claim that he was at his peak in the '80s and '90s is often made,...
