Constantine 2: Peter Stormare says Keanu Reeves isn’t happy with the script
Keanu Reeves in Constantine (2005)
Twenty years after the release of the DC Comics adaptation Constantine (watch it Here), a sequel is finally moving ahead with director Francis Lawrence back at the helm and star Keanu Reeves reprising the role of occult expert John Constantine… but it’s moving ahead slowly, because it has already been a few years since this project was first announced. We heard that a script for Constantine 2 had been delivered to executive producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura around eight months ago, but now Constantine co-star Peter Stormare (who played Lucifer in the first film) has revealed that Reeves isn’t happy with the script.

Written by Kevin Brodbin and Frank Cappello, the first Constantine had the following synopsis: As a suicide survivor, demon hunter John Constantine has literally been to hell and back — and he knows that when he dies, he’s got a one-way ticket to Satan’s realm...

Constantine (2005) – What Happened to This Horror Movie?
Image
You know what sounds like a hard sell to a Hollywood studio? A chain smoking antihero with a bad attitude and terminal lung cancer whom God himself doesn’t like. Dipping in and out of actual Hell. Where, by the way, Satan can’t wait to torture him for eternity. Oh, and it’s a large-ish budget superhero movie based on a DC/Vertigo comic. It’s a road that would include lawsuits, a music video director, a comic book creator who would rather leave free money on the table than be involved, and the MPAA gumming up the works. But where there’s a Keanu Reeves….there’s a way. This is what happened to Constantine.

The origins of Constantine began in June of 1986 when famed comic creator Alan Moore introduced him in The Saga of Swamp Thing #37. The occult investigator from England was on the hunt for information...

Constantine Director Recalls Keanu Reeves' One Instruction For The Film
Image
Director Francis Lawrence truly deserves credit for Constantine's cult following. He recently revealed how a last-minute meeting with Keanu Reeves ensured that they would collaborate on the film.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Lawrence said that he is still floored by Constantine's insane following. "It was one of those weird, strange, beautiful things to see that fan base grow," he explained. "Everywhere I go, people have Constantine DVDs. People still want to talk about it.I'm very happy about that, as opposed to people having hated it or forgotten it. That would be awful. The reverse has happened." Lawrence, who directed music videos for Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, and Britney Spears before Constantine, said he was almost left out of the film because of his prior credits.

Keanu Reeves Says He's "Aching" To Play John Constantine Again in Long-Awaited DC Sequel
Image
Keanu Reeves is now best-known for his role as the action icon John Wick but, with the actor having wrapped up that particular saga with 2023’s John Wick: Chapter 4, he is now “aching” to return as another fan-favorite character. The character in question happens to also be called John, DC’s paranormal investigator John Constantine, with Reeves commenting on the long-awaited sequel to his 2005 comic book movie on this, it’s 20th anniversary.

Updates on the development of Constantine 2 have been dripping through over the last few years and, during a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Reeves revealed that conversations are happening. And he cannot wait to (hopefully) finally give Constantine his highly anticipated comeback in what he calls “definitely in the realm of feeling worthy of being the next chapter.”

'It's a Scarier Version': Constantine Director Teases a Very R-Rated Sequel
Image
Constantine was dark enough to please the fan base but director Francis Lawrence said they could have done better. He's going all out with the sequel knowing it would definitely get an R-rating.

Director Francis Lawrence stoked fan anticipation, saying they're "closer than ever to a Constantine sequel". That can't come soon enough because Keanu Reeves said that's a follow-up he's eager to film. Lawrence said a stroke of luck gave them headway. "The big hurdle over these last 20 years has been who has the rights to these Vertigo characters or DC Dark," he told Entertainment Weekly. "NBC did make a series. We've always gotten held up because they go, 'No, we have Constantine. We want to do something with Constantine. You guys can't do your Constantine.' Finally, I think this is right before the strikes, we got everybody to say, 'Okay, you can go.'"

Keanu Reeves' 'Constantine 2' Gets Huge Update From Director
Image
For years, fans of the DC universe have eagerly anticipated the return of one of its most enigmatic characters on the big screen: Keanu Reeves’ John Constantine. After decades of false-starts, complete abandonment, and more recent rumors, a new update has suggested that the long-delayed follow-up to 1997’s Constantine is still very much alive and could still become a reality for those who have been patiently waiting for it to happen.

Director Francis Lawrence recently answered the question of what is happening with Constantine 2 during an interview with Collider, and his comments may not be categorically conclusive, but they certainly spark up debates about the possibility of this fan pipe-dream actually becoming reality. Lawrence said tantalizingly of the sequel:

"I will say we are closer than ever to being able to do a sequel, which is a great thing. And Akiva, Keanu and I are super, super excited about it.

‘Constantine’ Director Francis Lawrence Shares Update On Sequel: “We Are Closer Than Ever”
Image
Francis Lawrence, director of Constantine, is sharing an update on where he’s at with the film’s sequel.

In a new interview, the filmmaker teased that a follow-up to the 2005 superhero horror film starring Keanu Reeves was “closer than ever.”

“I will say we are closer than ever to being able to do a sequel, which is a great thing,” Lawrence told Collider.

The director also told the publication that they have something “really cool” in the works, adding that he, Reeves, and producer Akiva Goldsman “are super, super excited about it.”

Constantine is loosely based on the DC Comics/Vertigo Comics’ Hellblazer. Kevin Brodbin and Frank Cappello wrote the script based on a story by Brodbin. Reeves gives life to John Constantine, a chain-smoking cynic with the ability to perceive the true visage of half-angels and half-demons.

As far as the sequel goes, Lawrence notes that they “have a great idea,...

Brian Cox recalls working with Steven Seagal on a 1996 action comedy with an 11% Rotten Tomatoes score. The Scottish actor is best known to modern audiences as Logan Roy from HBO's Succession, receiving three Emmy nominations for his portrayal of the aging and brash patriarch and media mogul. However, as a classically trained Shakespearean actor, Cox has also appeared in many movies from the 1980s to the 2010s as a character actor, including Manhunter, Braveheart, The Boxer, The Rookie, Troy, Adaptation, X2, and Churchill.

Over his career, Cox has been outspoken about his co-stars and fellow actors, famously and frequently voicing his disapproval of his co-star Jeremy Strong's method acting on the set of Succession. Constantine 2 Writer Shares Positive Update on the Anticipated Sequel
Image
A new update has come in on the anticipated Constantine sequel. Back in 2005, Keanu Reeves played John Constantine in the original live-action movie based on the DC comic book character. More recently, it was reported that a sequel was in the works at Warner Bros. with writer Akiva Goldsman penning the script. Constantine 2 Fan Trailer Imagines Keanu Reeves' Return & Next Fight
Image
A Constantine 2 fan trailer imagines Keanu Reeves' return as the iconic DC Comics Hellblazer and his next fight. While the DC Universe (formerly known as the Dceu) is moving in a new direction, an old DC franchise is making a comeback. After starring as John Constantine in 2005, Reeves is getting another shot at portraying the beloved Hellblazer. For years, Reeves had stated that he wanted to portray Constantine again in a potential sequel. Constantine 2: Francis Lawrence is aiming to earn a hard R rating with Keanu Reeves sequel
Image
Seventeen years after the release of the DC Comics adaptation Constantine (watch it Here), a sequel is finally moving ahead with director Francis Lawrence back at the helm and star Keanu Reeves reprising the role of occult expert John Constantine. Speaking with The Wrap, Lawrence revealed that his biggest regret about the first Constantine was the fact that it was shot for a PG-13 rating but ended up receiving an R rating anyway. With Constantine 2, he intends to aim for an R rating from the start.

Lawrence said, “One of the biggest things for me about the first one was we followed, per Warner Bros., the rules to make a PG-13 movie in terms of violence, blood, language, sexuality. But the ratings board gave us a hard R based on their the gray zone of intensity. And my big, big regret was that we have an R-rated movie that’s really a PG-13 movie.

Constantine Sequel With Keanu Reeves Is Officially Happening, Director Francis Lawrence To Return
Image
Some demon-dealing magicians get all the luck. After nearly two decades, Keanu Reeves will return to the role of John Constantine in a sequel to the 2005 cult hit "Constantine." Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has greenlit a "Constantine 2" starring Reeves and re-teaming him with director Francis Lawrence. "Constantine" was Lawrence's directorial debut and he went on to direct "I am Legend" and the "Hunger Games" sequels, so he's sharpened his talents and could potentially be back with an even better tale of Constantine's troubles. (John is always in trouble. That's his whole thing.)

While many fans might be asking "why now?," they should really be asking "why not?" Not only is Reeves still killing it as an action star in the "John Wick" franchise, but the character of Constantine has gained new interest due to the success of Netflix's "The Sandman" series, which turned the character into Joanna Constantine...

Constantine 2 Is in the Works According to Original Star Peter Stormare
Image
A sequel to the 2005 comic book adaptation, Constantine, which starred Keanu Reeves, is now in the works according to the first movie's star Peter Stormare. Stormare, who played Lucifer in the first Constantine, made the announcement on social media, posting confirmation of Constantine 2 with the wonderfully direct message, "Sequel In The Works," along with an image of himself as the fallen Archangel.

Based on the DC comic Hellblazer and the character John Constantine, Constantine stars Keanu Reeves as an ordinary man with an extraordinary gift who must save the planet from evil. Unknown to most people, the world is crowded with spirits both good and evil who walk among us in human guise. One of the few who can see these spirits is John Constantine, but the responsibility of his vision is more than he can stand, and, as a teenager, he attempts to take his own life.

The Siege Of Jadotville Review
Across cinema history, few genres have been as enduring and controversial as those releases bold enough to directly tackle the subject of war. Perhaps this is to be expected considering the divisive nature of many of history’s most memorable conflicts – which are often still capable of inciting debate – and the implicit drama both on and off the battlefield that can be mined in a wartime narrative. While the setting and precise message of war films may differ from one filmmaker’s vision to the next, the constant theme is that such conflicts are rarely as black and white as they may seem. The Siege of Jadotville – the new film from first-time director Richie Smyth – fits that description perfectly but not in the way some viewers may expect.

Set in 1961, the film – written by Kevin Brodbin (Constantine) – stars Jamie Dornan as Commandant Pat Quinlan, an Irish soldier with no battle...

Jason O'Mara
Netflix War Drama 'Jadotville' Lines Up Macho Cast
Jason O'Mara
Right now we are looking at a very manly cast for Netflix's drama of Irish Commandant Pat Quinlan, played by hunky Dornan, as he leads a stand-off with troops against French and Belgian mercenaries in the 1960s Congo. TV's Jason O'Mara, who led Fox's beleaguered "Terra Nova" and appeared on "The Good Wife" and elsewhere, has just been added to the ensemble. Directed by first-timer Richie Smyth and written by Kevin Brodbin (whose story credits including "Constantine" do not bode well), this muscly drama enters production this April in Ireland and South Africa, and will stream across all territories in 2016. Netflix snapped up "Jadotville" out of this year's Berlinale. Fifty Shades Of Grey Star Jamie Dornan Locks Down The Siege Of Jadotville
Thanks in part to some savvy pre-release marketing from Beyoncé, the Fifty Shades of Grey trailer smashed viewership records upon its release, becoming the most viewed trailer of all time. I’ll let that sink in. All signs point to the steamy E.L. James adaptation heating up into a box office smash next spring, which should bode very well for stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. Today, Dornan has locked down his next starring role, in The Siege of Jadotville, a geopolitical thriller that should allow the actor a chance to further hone his dramatic chops.

From writer Kevin Brodbin and first-time director Richie Smith, the film centers on the titular siege of 150 U.N. Irish troops in 1961 in the Congo (now the Democratic Republic of Congo) after pro-Western warlord Moise Tshombe seized power in the Katanga region, killing the democratically elected Congolese prime minister Patrice Lamumba.
