It’s been 55 years since All My Children premiered, and the legacy of the ABC soap lives on. During the Susan Lucci in Conversation with Andy Cohen: All My Children at 55, writer Lorraine Broderick opened up about the show’s ending and why it had to be altered at the last minute. “We had an entirely different happy ending of All My Children, the final script that we all worked so hard on,” Broderick revealed to the panelists and audience during the 92Ny Recanati-Kaplan Talks program on January 14. “And then they decided to pick up on this short term internet thing that happened and we had to go back in and change everything so that everything was a cliffhanger so that they would have something.” All My Children was canceled by ABC in 2011 after 41 years on the air. That same year, the rights to the soap were sold to Prospect Park,...

All My Children was a soap opera staple when it aired from 1970-2013.
And viewers may not have seen the last of the sudser, according to Susan Lucci.
The actress has teased that there continues to be "buzz" surrounding a revival of the series.
Lucci admitted at the Go Red for Women event in New York City that should be interested in returning to the series if it was brought back from the dead.
“We are hearing a little buzz,” Lucci said of a potential return, according to Page Six.
“It’s just important to be in the right hands. Lorraine Broderick was the head writer and I know that she’s a beautiful writer, so if she was [on board] that would help a lot.”
Lucci has kept in contact with much of the cast and crew from the series, so it may not be difficult to get everyone back together...

The Writers Guild of America announced the TV nominees for the 2015 WGA Awards on Thursday (December 4) morning and several new shows broke into the fields in a big way. And, of course, there were a number of big WGA Award nomination head-scratchers. Specifically, where the heck was FX's "Fargo"? The answer is below. Making perhaps the biggest splash was "Transparent," which earned three nominations and, since "Orange Is The New Black" earned two nods and "House of Cards" pick up one, that meant that Amazon Prime and Netflix are, at least for one award-giving organization, on equal footing as creators of original programming. The Jill Soloway-created "Transparent" is nominated for New Series, where it will go against "The Affair," "The Knick," "Silicon Valley" and "True Detective." "Transparent" and "Silicon Valley" are also up for Comedy Series, going against "Louie," "Veep" and "Orange Is The New Black." Lest you panic...

Spike Jonze’s philosophical sci-fi love story Her, and Billy Ray’s harrowing true-life hostage saga Captain Phillips earned best original and adapted screenplays, respectively, from the Writers Guild Awards on Saturday.
In the original category, Her was facing its four rivals for the Oscar: American Hustle, Blue Jasmine, Dallas Buyers Club, and Nebraska, so its victory can be seen as a strong harbinger of where the Academy Award could go on March 2. In anecdotal sampling of Academy members, EW’s Prize Fighter has also determined that Her is far and away the front-runner for this category.

Tonight, the Writers Guild of America presented their awards for excellence in film and television for 2013. All eyes were on their top two categories, Original Screenplay and Adapted Screenplay, and while the former went to Spike Jonze’s incredible Her as expected, the latter went to Billy Ray’s Captain Phillips, which was completely out of the blue.
Her was widely expected to win due to its immense popularity throughout awards season, taking 20 screenplay wins from groups such as the HFPA and Bfca. However, Captain Phillips was a complete surprise given that it had not managed to win a single screenplay award prior to tonight, but as I’ve said before, it was going to be hard to tell which nominee was the favorite given the fact that the disqualified 12 Years a Slave has been the clear frontrunner throughout the season. Hollyoaks
I’ve loved a lot of gay characters over the years and Brendan Brady is probably one of my favorites. Because of his dark history and edgy style he’s unique among gay soap characters in just about every respect, and I like that the show takes chances with this bad boy. And it goes without saying that actor Emmett Scanlan is brilliant in the role. But I haven’t been happy with the way he’s been written for the past several months, mostly because it’s the same material we’ve already been through with Brendan, giving the character little chance for growth and leaving the continuing impression the show isn’t sure how to write for him.
I had hoped we might see something fresh for this character when Ash decided to do a thesis on Brendan. It looked as if the...

Friday is a day that All My Children fans are dreading: The end of daytime as we know it. Tomorrow, after 41 years, the ABC run of the classic soap is over.
We may have a recap or two left, depending on what happens with Bianca and Marissa on the last two episodes, but we want to take the opportunity to thank the show for what it did – or at least tried to do – for les/bi women.
Bianca Montgomery is All My Children's best-known lesbian, but she wasn't the first. In 1983, psychiatrist Dr. Lynn Carson (Donna Pescow) revealed her sexual orientation — and became the first Lgbt person on an American soap.
Lynn wasn’t a main character and had no love interests that we saw, but her brief storyline was historic nonetheless.
The longest running storyline, featuring our beloved Binx, started in 2000 when Eden Riegel took the role of Bianca,...

Agnes Nixon, creator of ABC’s daytime drama All My Children, returns to the show as Agnes Eckhart, a long standing board member of Pine Valley Hospital.
Nixon, often called the “queen of the modern soap opera,” created All My Children in 1970. She was a pioneer in daytime, writing for such shows as Another World, Guiding Light, As The World Turns and Search For Tomorrow before going on to create One Life To Live, All My Children, The City and Loving. It was on these shows where Nixon brought many current and important social issues to the small screen. She was honored in 2010 with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 37th Annual Daytime Emmys.

Real life couple and fan favorites Alexa Havins (Arabella “Babe” Carey Chandler) and Justin Bruening (Jamie Martin) return to ABC’s daytime drama All My Children this September.
Havins was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in 2005 for her role as Babe Chandler, whom she played from 2003 to 2007. In 2008 Babe suffered injuries after a series of tornadoes hit Pine Valley, which ended in her death. Bruening took over the role of Jamie Martin, Tad and Brooke’s son on All My Children, in 2003. When he departed the show in 2007, his character left to work at an AIDS clinic in Africa. Both actors will return in several episodes, scheduled to begin airing this September.
All My Children has been hallmarked for its iconic brand of humor and satire, and has been prized with more than 30 Daytime Emmy Awards over the past four decades, including the three-time top honor of Outstanding Drama Series.

According to TV Guide, All My Children fans won't have to wait long to see the Internet version of the venerable soap opera. The current plan is to launch the new version on Monday, September 26th -- three days after the soap says goodbye on ABC.
Current head writer Lorraine Broderick and executive producer Julie Carruthers are expected to stay. Broderick had been working with series creator Agnes Nixon to wrap up all of the major storylines for the finale but, now that the soap is continuing online, that may not happen.
There's also a report that Susan Lucci has agreed to stay with the daytime drama -- though it's not clear for how long or in what capacity. Most of the other soap's top performers have yet to begin negotiations but it looks unlikely that all of them will sign on. Reportedly, Michael E.

Actress Julia Barr returns to the television role she played for 30 years which earned her eight Emmy Award nominations, Brooke English on All My Children. The actress will tape a week of episodes in August, which will air in September -- the final shows of the daytime drama to be televised on the ABC Television Network.
Barr joined the show in 1976 and left in 2006. In 2010, by popular demand, she returned for a three month run, pairing Brooke with actor David Canary’s character Adam Chandler, one of her long-time loves.
In making the announcement Barr said, “I am thrilled to be back on the show personally and professionally for what will be an exciting and emotional time. I have no idea yet what brings Brooke back to Pine Valley, but trust that Lorraine Broderick -- AMC’s best head writer in the history of the show -- has something brilliant in the works.

Scoop on the New Web Version of All My Children
There's also highly reliable buzz — unconfirmed by Prospect Park — that Susan Lucci has agreed to move on with the show, though to what extent she'll participate or for how long isn't clear.
Prospect Park plans to retain current head writer Lorraine Broderick and executive producer Julie Carruthers. But are there major rewrites in the works for the ABC finale? Broderick, working in tandem with AMC's legendary creator Agnes Nixon, had planned to tie up most of the major storylines with nice tidy bows. Now such a finale is problematic, since creating a few cliffhangers would encourage viewers to check out the internet version.
There are also some hard-to-believe whispers going around that Sarah Michelle Gellar has agreed to return to AMC for a farewell appearance before the show leaves ABC.

Josh Duhamel will make an appearance on All My Children to once again play Pine Valley's favorite con artist, Leo du Pres, who allegedly died in 2003. Leo was paired with Rebecca Budig's Greenlee in 2000 and the two characters quickly became a soap super-couple. When Leo went over a waterfall years ago trying to save Greenlee, his body was never found, leaving daytime fans hopeful the character would someday return.
Duhamel was nominated for four Daytime Emmy Awards throughout his time on "All My Children" and won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2002 for his role as Leo. Since his exit from the show in 2003, Duhamel has often mentioned his interest to return to the daytime drama credited for his breakthrough as an actor. Along with the homecoming of many other fan favorites, Duhamel's August return promises storyline twists and turns that All My Children fans have grown to know and love.

CBS Thinks ABC Will Get Katie Couric
One person close to Couric described the ABC move as "a distinct possibility."
Sources say CBS News insiders initially accepted the idea of having Couric keep a role in the division, but have grown weary with the drawn-out negotiation process. "They are ready to wish her well," says one person close to the talks.
"No comment," says a spokesman at ABC News.
Susan Lucci: All My Children is in the 'Best of Hands'
"It's horrible and it's sad and disappointing, but we're on for five more months," said Lucci. "And the best thing the fans can do is watch, because Lorraine Broderick and Agnes Nixon (both longtime writers on the program) are at the helm and we are in the best of hands."

Brian Frons, president, Daytime, Disney/ABC Television Group announced today that Lorraine Broderick has been named head writer of ABC's Emmy Award-winning daytime drama, All My Children.
Broderick has long standing history with All My Children. She originally joined the show as scriptwriter and breakdown writer in 1979 under the guidance of then head writer Agnes Nixon.
In 1982 she was promoted to associate head writer, and in 1986 to the position of co-head writer. One year later she held the position of sole head writer on the show. After 12 years Broderick left to serve as co-head writer of Guiding Light, then as head writer for Another World, to return to All My Children in 1995. Following a second leave from the show, she wrote for As The World Turns and Days Of Our Lives, ABC's Port Charles and, in 2001, as head writer of ABC's One Life To Live. The plot thickens. In an effort to do damage control after my recent report that ABC plans to end both All My Children and One Life to Live, a rep for the network emailed me and other suds reporters over the weekend with a tip that veteran scribe Lorraine Broderick has been re-hired as head writer at AMC.
No surprise here. The current head writers, Dave Kreizman and Donna Swajeski, have not been successful and were at the end of their contracts...

A major writing shake-up has gone down on All My Children.
The somewhat controversial reign of Charles Pratt, Jr., which began in June 2008,is over. He's been released from that position, ABC confirms, though the network won't elaborate on the reasons behind the firing.
Reports indicate that former writer Lorraine Broderick will take over, as All My Children transitions to filming on the West Coast.
She served as co-head writer of AMC from 1987-1988 and has also written for Another World, As The World Turns, Days of Our Lives, Guiding Light and One Life to Live.
