One of the most revered police dramas of all time, Homicide: Life on the Street, examines the calculating and exacting detective work of Baltimore’s often confrontational, passionate, and opinionated homicide department.
With a determined cast of characters that never let up in their quest for truth and justice, this gripping hourlong series remains the standard bearer of how police handle the job both professionally and personally.
From Universal Television, Homicide: Life on the Street originally launched on NBC in 1993 and ran for seven seasons, for a total of 122 episodes. It was succeeded by Homicide: The Movie in 2000, which served as the series finale.
The series was created by Paul Attanasio and based on David Simon’s book Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets. Tom Fontana was the series head writer and showrunner.

One of the more critically acclaimed dramas of the past 30 years has at last found a streaming home.
Starting Aug. 19, Peacock will feature Homicide: Life on the Street. All seven seasons and 122 episodes of the former NBC show, as well as the series-wrapping Homicide: The Movie from 2000, will be available, remastered for HD and 4K viewing.
Homicide was based on David Simon’s book Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets and created by Paul Attanasio; Tom Fontana was the showrunner and executive produced with Barry Levinson, Henry Bromell and Jim Finnerty. The series followed detectives in Baltimore’s homicide unit and was praised for its acting and a more realistic depiction of detective work — including some cases that don’t get solved — than on many other network crime dramas.

Exclusive: There will be no second miraculous renewal for USA Network’s supernatural thriller drama Falling Water. The cable network has opted not to order a third season of the series, from the late Henry Bromell, Brotherhood creator Blake Masters, The Walking Dead executive producer Gale Anne Hurd and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.
For two seasons, Falling Water has been USA’s lowest-rated series in linear ratings, averaging 461,000 viewers and 0.14 adults 18-49 rating in Live+Same Day in Season 1 and slipping to 349,000 viewers and a 0.09 in Season 2.
Based on its linear ratings, Falling Water should’ve been canceled after the first season. But Its dense mythology, solid 30% L+3 DVR gains and steady viewership during Season 1 made the series a solid binge prospect for a streaming service. It was taken out and landed a deal with Amazon for exclusive Svod rights. The pact helped secure a Season 2 renewal by USA.

Claire Danes is accustomed to answering questions about “Homeland” every year, but on Thursday evening the star took a turn as questioner in a sit-down with Lesli Linka Glatter, the series’ director/executive producer, for a conversation about the show and the career path of one of TV’s most sought-after helmers.
Glatter admitted that she had a “panic attack” when she got the script for the first episode she directed of the Showtime drama series back in 2012. She wound up earning an Emmy and Directors Guild nomination for her work on “Q&A,” the much-praised season two installment that features a famously long and intense interrogation scene between Danes’ Carrie Mathison and Damian Lewis’ Nicholas Brody.
When she first read the script by late “Homeland” exec producer Henry Bromell, she thought: “It’s 40 pages in a room,” she said, noting that there was little she could do in the way of “camera tricks.

Take another look @ Universal's new dramatic fantasy series "Falling Water", from executive producers Gale Anne Hurd ("The Walking Dead"), Blake Masters ("Brotherhood") and Henry Bromell ("Homeland"), debuting October 13, 2016 on USA:
"....'Falling Water' is the story of three unrelated people, who slowly realize that they are dreaming separate parts of a single common dream.
"Each of them is on a mysterious and highly personal quest — one is searching for his missing girlfriend, one is searching for a lost child, one is looking to cure his catatonic mother...and it is the clues found in their collective dream that come to guide them.
"The deeper they dig, though, the more they come to realize that their missions touch on stakes that are much larger than their individual agendas.
"That the visions found in their common dream just might hold the key to the fate of the world..."

2016-10-12T16:33:31-07:00'Falling Water' Delivers Dream Imagery and a Dense Plot
Falling Water, a new fantasy drama on USA, is asking a lot of its viewers. It's offering up some stunning visual imagery, but it's wrapping that imagery around a difficult-to-understand plot that, according to most reviewers, makes the series frustrating and not exactly exciting.
The series involves several characters, including a designer, a cop, and a corporate security expert, who lead wildly different lives in different places around the world. The thread that connects them is that they're all having extremely vivd, disturbing dreams, and we begin to realize quickly that they are somehow connected by the similarities in their dreams.
The series was created by the late Henry Bromell (Homeland) and Blake Masters (Brotherhood), and it is produced by Gale Anne Hurd (The Walking Dead). With a pedigree that includes such...

Don’t think of “Falling Water” as “Inception, Part Deux.” USA’s upcoming thriller, about a group of people linked by a mysterious dream they all share, might sound a lot like “Inception,” the hard-to-parse 2010 movie smash starring Leonard DiCaprio. Happy Friday, everyone! Time for a new installment of Ask Alan. On this week's episode (embedded at the top and bottom of this post), I attempt to figure out if there's any way for the Emmys to properly acknowledge the many great shows of Peak TV in America, talk about some shows that actually improved when their original creator left(*), and don't take very long identifying the most quotable TV character of all time. (Trigger warning: I may in fact sing my answer.) (*) Two answers that occurred to me after the video was already recorded, both from AMC: 1)The Walking Dead, where Frank Darabont made the show's best episode ever (the pilot), then presided over a mostly terrible first season (remember the gangbangers in the nursing home?) before giving way to Glen Mazzara and then Scott Gimple, whose tenures have had their own issues, but have on the whole been better; and 2)Rubicon,...

Plenty of groups give out awards for excellence in film and television at the end of every year, but no set of nominations is watched more carefully by Oscar predictors than the picks from the Producers Guild. That’s because year after year their choices end up being a fairly good indicator of which films will also be granted Best Picture nominations when the Academy makes their selections.
The Guild has announced their 2014 nominations today and there aren’t really any major surprises here. All the expected films are present, including 12 Years A Slave, American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Gravity, Her and The Wolf Of Wall Street. Animated films that nabbed nominations are The Croods, Despicable Me 2, Epic, Frozen and Monsters University. Included in the documentary nominations are A Place at the Table, Far Out Isn’t Far Enough: The Tomi Ungerer Story, Life According to Sam, We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks...

Sorry Harvey and Bob Weinstein!

The Producers Guild of America has accurately forecast the last six Best Picture Oscar winners, so it was good news for 10 films that were nominated today for the PGA’s Darryl F. Zanuck Award. While Gravity, 12 Years a Slave, and American Hustle were among the films that made the cut, Inside Llewyn Davis, The Butler, and Fruitvale Station did not. Last year, eight of the 10 movies that received nods from the PGA went on to earn Oscar nominations for Best Picture.

The year now ending marks another 12-month period of losing talents who have given television viewers entertainment or information ... and some of those passings, even more sadly, came as major and untimely shocks. Zap2it remembers:
Paul Walker: The actor best-known for the "Fast & Furious" movies had career roots in such TV shows as "Who's the Boss?" "Highway to Heaven" and "Touched by an Angel."
James Gandolfini: He projected so much older as mobster Tony Soprano, many were surprised to learn the three-time Emmy winner only was in his 30s and 40s when he played the part.
Cory Monteith: As Finn Hudson on "Glee," the Canadian-born performer touched fans of all ages both in life and afterward.
Jean Stapleton: Forever TV's top "dingbat," the "All in the Family" actress earned three Emmys as lovably daffy Edith Bunker.

CIA mastermind Saul Berenson has a complicated scheme to “break the logjam” in the Middle East by having Nicholas Brody assassinate an Iranian leader, clearing the way for Berenson’s handpicked replacement. Or they could just sit back and give diplomacy a try. That’s what the U.S. did in real life. So the same weekend “Homeland” gave us Brody going cold turkey from heroin and training for a mission to Iran, reality gave us the U.S. announcing a deal on Iran’s nuclear program. And by “style,” I mean injected with heroin.
With the return of Brody to Homeland, there’s a lot at stake without even addressing how effective his incorporation into “Tower of David” is. If you look elsewhere on TV, you’ll find another series that begins its new season dealing with the temporary absence of an important character – The Governor on The Walking Dead. In both circumstances, these characters were used well last year at certain points, but were also used rather poorly at other points, culminating in season finale departures that raised a lot of questions (such as “Do we buy into this whole Carrie/Brody relationship?” and “Is Brody even a necessary part of this series? Are any of the Brody family members?...

This Sunday on Showtime’s Homeland, Nicholas Brody (played by Damian Lewis) finally reared his head again, far from Canada and perhaps as far from being “home” as he ever will be.
