Judee Sill’s story is one of raw talent and inner turmoil. Born in the 1940s, she showed an early gift for music even amidst a troubled family life. By her teens, drug use and crime saw her cycle through jail and the streets. Yet music remained her guiding light. Gaining recognition in the L.A. folk scene, Sill signed with Asylum Records in the 1970s, a star-studded label home to the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt.

While contemporaries found fame, Sill’s complex songs defied radio formatting. Her self-titled debut and Heart Food earned critical praise, yet sales stalled. Personal issues spiraled too, and asylum cut ties. By 35, Sill was found dead—her light extinguished—decades before her full genius would become clear. That’s where Lost Angel steps in to shine a light.

Feud: Capote vs. The Swans has honored the late Treat Williams with a touching tribute.

The card, which read “In Memory of Treat Williams 1951-2023”, appeared at the end of last night’s episode of Ryan Murphy’s FX anthology series. You can see it below.

Williams portrayed former CBS head and media tycoon Bill Paley in the series, an adaptation of Laurence Leamer’s bestselling book Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era. The series chronicles the literary scandal that sparked a fallout between writer Truman Capote and a high-society group of women, known as his “Swans.”

Feud was Williams’ final role. The veteran actor had wrapped production shortly before he died in a tragic motorcycle accident on June 12, 2023 in Dorset, Vt. He was 71.

Exclusive: Greenwich Entertainment has acquired North American distribution rights to Lost Angel: The Genius of Judee Sill, a documentary about the gifted singer-songwriter who was equal parts talented and tortured.

The film directed by Andy Brown and Brian Lindstrom (Alien Boy: The Life & Death of James Chasse) premiered at Doc NYC in 2022. Greenwich plans to release Lost Angel in theaters on April 12. Watch the trailer below.

Sound Unseen, the music documentary festival held in Minneapolis, is returning with a slew of rock docs including Alison Ellwood’s Cyndi Lauper film Let the Canary Sing and the North American premiere of Peter Doherty: Stranger In My Own Skin about the Libertines co-founder.

The 24th iteration of the festival runs between November 8-12.

Let The Canary Sing will open the festival on Wednesday November 8 and Katia de Vidas’s Doherty film closes the festival on Sunday November 12.

One of Treat Williams' most memorable roles was that of Benny Severide in Chicago Fire. The iconic actor joined NBC's One Chicago franchise in 2013 as Benny, the difficult father of currently absent firefighter Kelly Severide. Benny only appeared in 16 episodes between Season 1 and Season 7, but his presence in Chicago Fire was large despite his limited screen time. And the reason his character had that impact was due to Williams' performance.

Because Benny and Severide had a strained relationship, Benny's appearances carried a significant amount of emotional weight. Benny always had a strong effect on Kelly -- and therefore a strong effect on the narrative at large. 2Nd Update: In an Instagram post Tuesday evening, former Everwood co-star Chris Pratt mourned both Treat Williams, who died Monday, and fellow former cast member John Beasley, who died two weeks ago.

“It’s an incredibly sad season for the cast and crew of Everwood. We’re still reeling from the loss of John Beasley and yesterday we lost Treat Williams as well,” Pratt said. “Both men were exceptional actors, wonderful husbands, fathers and friends. They will be missed tremendously.”

Update: Everwood creator Greg Berlanti has shared a remembrance of his first meeting with Treat Williams following the veteran actor’s death Monday in a motorcycle accident in Vermont. Hollywood is mourning the loss of Treat Williams, the veteran film and television actor who died Monday in a motorcycle accident at 71.

His agent, Barry McPherson of APA, confirmed Williams’ death in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “He was an actor’s actor. Filmmakers loved him. He’s been the heart of Hollywood since the late 1970s,” McPherson told People.

In a career that spanned six decades, Williams was best known for playing a New York City neurosurgeon who moves his family to Colorado on the WB series Everwood and in such films as Sidney Lumet’s Prince of the City and Milos Forman’s Hair. Most recently, he was a series regular on the popular Netflix drama Chesapeake Shores.

Treat Williams, a veteran screen actor who received acclaim for his lead performance in the musical “Hair” and starred in The WB series “Everwood,” died Monday afternoon after being involved in a motorcycle accident near Dorset, Vt. He was 71.

Williams’ death was confirmed by a statement by his family, released by his agency APA. Vermont State Police reported a road closure near Dorset due to a motor vehicle accident at 5:24 p.m. He was transferred to Albany Medical Center in Albany, N.Y.

“It is with great sadness that we report that our beloved Treat Williams has passed away tonight in Dorset, Vt. after a fatal motorcycle accident,” reads the statement. “As you can imagine, we are shocked and greatly bereaved at this time. Treat was full of love for his family, for his life and for his craft, and was truly at the top of his game in all of it.

Everwood‘s Treat Williams is paying tribute to his former costar John Beasley, who died on Tuesday at the age of 79.

The avalanche of music docs over the past decade has left very few stones unturned — and more than a few films that can barely justify their running times if not their existence. But one overdue and heretofore untold story is that of Judee Sill, a brilliant, innovative early ‘70s singer-songwriter who was the first artist signed to David Geffen’s Asylum Records, and was labelmates and/or a contemporary of the Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Graham Nash, David Crosby and Joni Mitchell. Sill was frequently compared with the latter (to her great annoyance) and although there are few direct musical similarities, they were both among the most original and innovative singer-songwriters of the era: Her music fit early ‘70s Southern California vibe of her label and milieu, but it was stranger, with deep classical influences, wildly unusual structures and voicings and often dark subject matter.

Ahead of the Tuesday night premiere of NBC’s latest drama, “La Brea,” the cast and crew shed more light behind the mysterious sinkhole in Hollywood.

The adventure series opens with fast-paced action when a massive sinkhole suddenly opens in the La Brea area of Los Angeles, pulling scores of people, plus cars and buildings, into its mysterious depths. Among those pulled in are Eve (played by Natalie Zea) and her son Josh (played by Jack Martin).

Shooting took place in both Melbourne, Australia, where VFX created realistic sets of the Wilshire Boulevard area, and in L.A. itself.

Series creator David Applebaum explains, “The origin of the idea was an image of a sinkhole opening up in the middle of Los Angeles and from there you start asking why does it open? Who falls in? Where do they go? We don’t yet know how deep it goes.”

Reactions continue to pour in on the death of Stephanie Niznik, who died last month at age 52 in Encino, Calif. of unknown causes.

Everwood creator Greg Berlanti and showrunner Rina Mimoun were the latest to weigh in. Niznik is best known for her role as neighbor Nina Feeney on Everwood during its four-season run from 2002-2006.

In a joint statement, the executive producers called Niznik “the mother of our tribe” for the medical drama series.
