Adult animation isn’t something that gets talked about enough. Paving the way for today’s movie were things like Fritz the Cat, Lord of the Rings which is not expressly adult of course, and Wizards. Let us know if we should talk about Wizards in some form by the way. Other movies that firmly tie into a similar vein of Heavy Metal are American Pop from the same year and Fire and Ice from a couple years later. While a bunch of the animated movies listed or even not listed fall under the sex comedy, fantasy, or recreation of modern life, Heavy Metal is something else entirely. It’s an anthology sci-fi, horror, comedy, action, fantasy that has a rocking soundtrack and earns its hard R rating. It was held back from being on video for a while due to licensing issues but has become an endearing cult classic 44 years later.

The movie Virus did not officially scuttle across screens until 1999, but its biomechanical horrors first sprang to life a bit earlier. The road to screen adaptation was not straightforward for Navy Seal turned writer Chuck Pfarrer; he first pitched his high concept to Universal Pictures, only to then have it land at Dark Horse Comics. Upon the series’ success, Pfarrer tried his luck again with Universal. This time, though, producer Gale Anne Hurd was there to help get Virus optioned as well as find a potential director.
It was in 1995 that Universal first approached John Bruno about helming Virus. Initially, the visual effects artist was hesitant about directing a feature, and Pfarrer’s screenplay was a major factor in that uncertainty; he found it to be too dense and complicated for his liking. Yet after a talk with colleague and friend James Cameron, Bruno eventually accepted the offer, providing that...

The ’90s are chock full of some great sci-fi horror films. Who can forget Event Horizon, The Lawnmower Man, Mimic or Deep Blue Sea…. ya know, the one where Samuel L. Jackson gets eaten by a shark? Anyways, let’s fast forward to the end of the decade, 1999 in particular. It was, and still is, considered to be the best year movies were released. In January, director John Bruno would bring us the film, Virus (watch it Here). A movie that makes us ask the question “Wtf Happened To This Horror Movie?”

Following the voyage of the Titan sub that claimed five lives on June 18 when it imploded en route to Titanic’s wreckage in the North Atlantic, the sub’s developer and operator OceanGate Expeditions faced criticism from James Cameron, who contended in numerous interviews that the tragedy was preventable. He told ABC News on Thursday: “Many people in the community were concerned about this sub and even wrote letters to the company saying that what they were doing was too experimental and what they were doing needed to be certified.”
John Bruno — a VFX Oscar winner for The Abyss who did four dives to Titanic with Cameron during the filming of the Oscar-winning 1997 film and 2003 documentary Ghosts of the Abyss — echoed Camerons’s concerns about the Titan sub’s design. He tells The Hollywood Reporter that when he read about the sub, “the worst thing for me was that the whole front end opened up.

Directed by visual effects artist John Bruno, 1999’s Virus is a seafaring science fiction thriller about a Russian research ship beset by alien cyborgs looking to use humans as “spare parts.” Some of those parts belong to stars Jamie Lee Curtis, William Baldwin and Donald Sutherland as a tugboat captain. A line of action figures and even a video game couldn’t attract ticket buyers.

Cleanin' Up the Town is coming to Cannes. The documentary on the 1984 classic boasts 46 interviews with the cast and crew responsible for making the comedy come to life on the big screen. London-based Kew Media Distribution has announced six titles for Cannes and the long awaited Ghostbusters documentary is on the list. The project was started over eight years ago by brother and sister team Anthony and Claire Bueno, who have sought to make the definitive documentary on Ghostbusters. It's been an uphill battle, but it looks like all of their hard work has paid off.
Original Ghostbusters stars Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Ivan Reitman, are just some of the familiar faces featured in Cleanin' Up The Town. They tell the story behind the franchise while also getting into the possible reasons it's adored by so many while showing off the behind-the-scenes magic too. Viewers...

As Scream Factory continues to release pared-down catalogue titles on their now five-year-old label, the brand keeps expanding to include all different kinds of movies. Once known for releasing deluxe special editions of horror fan favorites, the company has diversified over the last half decade and begun releasing new films (as part of their deal with IFC midnight), unknown (and sometimes previously unavailable) cult films, a handful of classics, and even their own in-house productions. This last batch of catalogue titles, the majority of which have been released with only minimum bonus features but new HD scans, continues to broaden the reach of the Scream Factory brand to include a range of titles from secretly successful ’70s sexploitation sci-fi to well-intentioned failures of the 1990s.

"One of Us" sounds like it will be a very interesting episode of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. indeed. Cal (aka the Doctor, aka Mr. Hyde) is out for revenge against Coulson, and he's recruited a team of supervillains to help him. Though the synopsis doesn't reveal who they are, a look at the characters mentioned in the guest-star section give us some hints. It appears this will be the first time we meet Drea De Matteo as Daredevil character Karla Gideon. Not sure who Wendell Levi could be, but Francis is the civilian identity of Ajax so that's a (slim) possibility. David A. Angar is undoubtedly Angar the Screamer, who can cause hallucinations with a piercing shriek. John Bruno? Your guess is as good as mine. Could this be an incarnation of The Masters Of Evil? perhaps? If the Absorbing Man returns too, I'd say it's a strong possibility. "One of...

Crass comedy in the form of The Inbetweeners 2 ruled the Australian box-office last weekend while James Cameron's Deepsea Challenge 3D sank ingloriously.
Doctor Who fans turned out in reasonable numbers for the Sunday cinema screening of the first episode of series 8 while Nick Cave.s new dramatised documentary had its admirers.

James Cameron’s Deepsea Challenge 3D, a doc sponsored by National Geographic that features box-office king of the world Cameron diving to the deepest spot in the ocean, ran aground on the shoals of audience indifference in its debut in this weekend’s specialty box office. Deepsea, directed by John Bruno with Ray Quint, opened in more than 300 locations Friday, a relatively big opening debut for a specialty release. But getting people into those 300+ theaters proved a challenge, as it opened with a soft gross just under $151K, for a per-theater average of just $496. The slow opening is a big contrast with Cameron’s […]...

For John Bruno, it was surreal directing James Cameron's record-breaking solo voyage into the deepest part of the ocean in the Mariana Trench for the "Deepsea Challenge 3D" doc. That's because the journey into the abyss this time was real after first working with Cameron as VFX supervisor on "The Abyss" 26 years ago. "In 1988, those of us who worked on the film, 'The Abyss,' thought that it was the ultimate stress test. We had T-shirts made that read: 'You can’t scare me. I worked on The Abyss.' But no one's life was at risk back then. It was just a movie. 'Deepsea Challenge' was different. It was life imitating art and the stakes were real. Someone could die. The success or failure of the Challenger mission was in the hands of a very small guerrilla team of brilliant mathematical, mechanical, and electronic geniuses, most of...

James Cameron's Deepsea Challenge 3D is probably the closest we'll come to a memoir from the filmmaker. A documentary account of his 2012 dive to the bottom of the 36,000-foot Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench — the deepest known part of the world’s oceans — as well as the months and years spent preparing for it, the film begins with staged scenes of the young Cameron discovering his love of the sea and of underwater exploration. We see him as a young boy, cutting a hole in a cardboard box and pretending it’s a submarine and putting a small mouse in a jar labeled “Sealab” and lowering it into the water. But this film, which was directed by John Bruno, Andrew Wight, and Ray Quint, isn’t just about James Cameron the filmmaker turned explorer. As the movie unfolds, something subtler emerges about the man.The ocean has always...

You would think James Cameron would want to rest. The 59-year old behind the two highest-grossing movies of all time—Avatar and Titanic, in addition to all the technology required to make those films a reality—has earned himself the right to a leisurely retirement. But there’s no rest for his curiosity.
Cameron’s latest endeavor, Deepsea Challenge 3D, is indication that he will never stop exploring. “I’m just a very curious person, I guess,” Cameron said in a recent interview on EW Radio. “It’s what attracts me to science, to engineering. I like to build things and see if they work.

When he's not talking about making sequels to Avatar, James Cameron can usually be found taking part in pretty exciting scientific expeditions. You may recall his journey to Mariana Trench covered on most media outlets two years ago; well National Geographic has released the first Deepsea Challenge 3D trailer for directors John Bruno, Andrew Wight, and Ray Quint's documentary about the whole ordeal. Here’s the official synopsis: Deepsea Challenge 3D follows the...

Before fans get to explore Pandora again in director James Cameron's Avatar sequels, the filmmaker is taking moviegoers to the deepest point of the Pacific Ocean in the first trailer for James Cameron's DeepSea Challenge 3D. The heralded director and longtime underwater explorer joins forces with National Geographic and Rolex on a journey to the Mariana Trench's lowest point in a historic dive, which is captured with his innovative 3D cameras. Take a look at the first footage from this upcoming documentary, which will debut in theaters nationwide August 8.
A joint scientific project by Cameron, the National Geographic Society and Rolex to conduct deep-ocean research and exploration to expand our knowledge and understanding of these largely unknown parts of the planet.

While we still have a few years to wait until Avatar 2, those needing an immediate James Cameron fix will be appeased next month. Naitonal Geographic has released the first Deepsea Challenge 3D trailer for directors John Bruno, Andrew Wight, and Ray Quint’s documentary about Cameron’s expedition to the Mariana Trench, the deepest point on the planet. This trailer has a touch of narcissism to it, but that’s kind of par for the course. The beginning of the trailer almost plays like parody and kept reminding me of the South Park gag. Nevertheless, Cameron’s dive is a genuinely exciting scientific expedition, and it should be fun to follow the filmmaker along on his journey through the depths of the ocean—in 3D no less! Back in 2012, news outlets covered a special expedition by filmmaker James Cameron as he dove deep into the sea in his own Deepsea Challenger submersible on 13 dives into the New Britain Trench off Papua New Guinea and the Mariana Trench, where he explored the deepest part of the ocean. Much like his endeavors on film, this was a breakthrough event as Cameron became the first person to travel solo to this part of the planet with a little help from National Geographic (who showed off his dive in 2012), Rolex and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Now the documentary film Deepsea Challenge 3D, chronicling this real-life underwater adventure, is coming late this summer, and the first trailer has just arrived. Watch it! Here's the first trailer for the documentary Deepsea Challenge 3D, originally from Apple: Deepsea Challenge 3D is directed by John Bruno, Ray Quint and Andrew Wight, with the later...

James Cameron is a man of many talents. The man best known for revolutionizing the way we look at cruise ships and sparking an everlasting debate about wooden door buoyancy and floating diplomacy, the man who crafted a $2.8b grossing film about space Pocahontas and planned a never-ending franchise to continue the story forever, is now taking a little time for himself. No, it’s not time spent changing the future of film by having all moviegoers watch films while sitting on his lap. According to the production, Disruptive La and National Geographic will be releasing a documentary that chronicles the journey Cameron takes to fulfill his boyhood dream, one that seems pretty common to all our childhoods: becoming an explorer. While most of us would chalk our six-year-old ambitions up to frivolous impracticality and unattainability at this point (not me though, I’m still going to be the President of the United States and also moonlight...

Though he’s keeping pretty busy with the several Avatar sequels that are currently in production, James Cameron is taking a bit of a break from the world of blue people to bring us an underwater adventure in the form of James Cameron’s Deepsea Challenge 3D. The doc will have the director in a starring role, with John Bruno, Andrew Wright and Ray Quint sitting behind the camera.
The film will follow Cameron and his crew as they attempt to reach Challenger Deep, which is known as the deepest part of the ocean. Apparently, this was the first extensive expedition that attempted to reach Challenger Deep and included 13 dives. Along the way, 68 new species were identified and on March 26, 2012, the expedition culminated in Cameron’s solo dive, which took him 35,787 feet below the surface of the ocean.

Founded in 2007, Radical Studios is a multimedia company that incubated comic books for exploitation in other forms. Among their earliest releases was Hercules, boasting a Steranko cover, and it came with high production values and a bit of a buzz., The character returned for a second miniseries in and this interpretation captured Hollywood’s fancy. After years in development, production on the movie adaptation began today. Thew film enters a crowded summer 2014, especially for super-hero films, coming after Captain America: The Winter Solider and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and just before X-Men: Days of Future Past and Guardians of the Galaxy (raising the question whether or not four Marvel Universe films in five months will reach the saturation point).
