Good Fear Films is developing a film about the legal battle that followed the 1971 prisoner revolt at the Attica Correctional Facility.
The life rights to Elizabeth Fink, the lead counsel in the federal civil rights case, and ex-con Frank 'Big Black' Smith have been obtained by the company.
In 1974, Fink filed a $2.8 billion civil suit on behalf of inmates against prison guards for torture and abuse during the riot. The revolt left 33 prisoners, and 10 corrections officers and civil employees dead at the maximum-security state prison in western New York. Fink won a $12 million settlement from the state in 2000.
Kristen Buckley has been hired to adapt the script which will look at Fink and Smith's work to expose the state cover-up of prisoner abuse. The project will also have access to key players and documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act. Chris Bender and Jake Weiner set to produce.

How lazy are we willing to allow filmmakers to be in the modern age? This is an era when an homage is a knife’s edge away from being a blatant rip-off, a time when remakes and reboots are so common that it would be news if there was an extended period when each movie opening in theaters was wholly original, at least in that it wasn’t based on a book, musical, TV show, board game, etc. Perhaps a more pointed question specific to this column would be, how lazy are we willing to let a remake of a beloved classic be? Remakes, in general, are a...

'Humorist' duo double dip for two Fox deals
John Aboud and Michael Colton, the writing duo who founded Modern Humorist, have inked with Principato-Young Entertainment and struck back-to-back deals with Fox Searchlight and 20th Century Fox. The duo has been tapped by Searchlight to write their first feature, The Comebacks, described as a sports movie spoof. Also under the 20th Century Fox umbrella, Aboud and Colton are finishing a rewrite of the teen gladiator comedy Gen CCX for Fox and producer Neal Moritz. Originally penned by Kristen Buckley and Brian Regan, the project is described as a period comedy in the vein of Monty Python films. Aside from feature film work, the duo recently sold a half-hour comedy to NBC Studios through Broadway Video based on Colton's experiences working as a reporter in Washington, and they recently co-produced VH1's Get Your Geek On and are serving as consultants for VH1's upcoming Big in '03 awards show. In addition to their new management at Principato-Young, Aboud and Colton are repped by CAA. Previous to founding Modern Humorist in 2000, Aboud and Colton worked as journalists and freelance comedy writers.
