Ed Buck

Beyond Ed Buck - Jennie Kermode - 17691
In 2017 and 2019, Gemmel Moore and Timothy Dean, two young African American men, were found in the home of wealthy white businessman and Democratic Party donor Ed Buck, where they had apparently died as a result of overdosing on methamphetamine (aka crystal meth). Initially, no charges were brought in either case, even though, by the time of the second death, a significant amount of evidence had accumulated to the effect that Buck had a history of picking up men like them, drugging them, and then sexually assaulting them whilst they were unconscious or unable to move. It took a months-long campaign by local people to persuade law enforcement to take action. Some of those protests are covered in this film. Buck would eventually be sentenced to 30 years in prison, but what he did was just one illustration of a much wider-reaching problem.

Why did it take so long to...

Allblk Streaming Service To Premiere Anti-Crime Documentary ‘Beyond Ed Buck’ On February 24
Image
The Allblk, streaming service for Black TV and film from AMC Networks, announced the world premiere of Beyond Ed Buck, streaming Thursday, February 24.

Co-executive produced by Jayce Baron and Pose star, Hailie Sahar, Beyond Ed Buck begins by examining and analyzing the tragic deaths of Gemmel Moore (2017) and Timothy Dean (2019), two gay Black men who died at the hands of democratic political donor, Ed Buck. Buck was found guilty of several charges, including supplying fatal doses of methamphetamine to both men in July of last year.

True to its title, the anti-crime documentary goes beyond the Ed Buck case to unpack internalized homophobia, the psychological root of predatory behaviors, and to provide a deeper exploration of challenges faced by the Black and Brown LGBTQ+ community – particularly how a variety of systemic social and economic issues have led gay and trans identified people to become victims of predators looking to satisfy...

Ed Buck’s Arrest Has Stirred Up the Far Right — But the Story Is Bigger Than They Realize
Prior to his arrest on Wednesday, few outside of the black Lgbtq community had likely heard of Ed Buck, the 65-year-old Democratic political donor and Lgbtq rights advocate who was arrested in West Hollywood and charged with operating a methamphetamine ring. Police arrested Buck after a 37-year-old man overdosed at his home. Prosecutors allege that the man asked Buck to help him get medical help, only for him to refuse and prevent him from leaving his home; the man somehow managed to escape and call 911 from a pay phone at a gas station,...

Artist Behind ‘Once Upon a Time In…Hollywood’ Anti-Pedophilia Billboard Vandalism Says He Was Abused
Quentin Tarantino at an event for The Oscars (2013)
The conservative street artist taking credit for vandalizing a Los Angeles billboard and bus stop advertisement for Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood” with anti-pedophilia messaging says he himself was abused.

The new billboard, which is located at the intersection of La Cienega Blvd. and Pico Blvd., was altered ahead of the film’s Friday opening to read “Once Upon a Time in… Pedowood,” with Jeffrey Epstein’s and Roman Polanski’s faces where the film’s stars, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, should be.

Artist Sabo has taken credit for the alteration on his website, where he revealed he prayed before the project, which he’s never done before. “I’ve never prayed before a project but I prayed before this one, in the names of all those children harmed by these monsters. I hope they all get caught and put behind bars,” he wrote.
