Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Joe Pantoliano, and Carrie-Anne Moss in The Matrix (1999)
'Blade Runner 2099' Producer Offers Disappointing Release Update
Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Joe Pantoliano, and Carrie-Anne Moss in The Matrix (1999)
Science fiction is a genre that can leave its audience in awe or can induce existential dread. While Keanu Reeves’ The Matrix is well known to make the audience question their reality, Ridley Scott’s original Blade Runner made fans ponder over what makes us really human. While there are no definitive answers, Denis Villeneuve elaborates on the themes of Scott’s film in his follow up Blade Runner 2049. Now, fans of the franchise are eagerly waiting for the Prime Video series Blade Runner 2099 to take forward the world built by the two directors. But it sounds like they’ll have to wait some more.

Blade Runner 2099 series is set fifty years after the events of the Villeneuve-directed film that starred Ryan Gosling. And while the movies had male protagonists, Harrison Ford and Gosling, respectively, the series will feature Euphoria star Hunter Schafer along with Oscar-winner...

Georgina Campbell in Barbarian (2022)
Weapons director Zach Cregger confirms he had to recast the movie after the 2023 SAG strike
Georgina Campbell in Barbarian (2022)
Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger has assembled a strong cast for his mysterious horror project called Weapons, including Julia Garner (Ozark), Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), Amy Madigan (Antlers), Austin Abrams (Euphoria), June Diane Raphael (Grace and Frankie), and Cary Christopher (Days of Our Lives)… and we’re going to have the chance to see that cast face the horrors Cregger has conjured up when Weapons reaches theatres on August 8th. But that’s not the first cast this movie had. Back in May of 2023, it was announced that Pedro Pascal (The Fantastic Four: First Steps) would be starring in the film alongside Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World). Then, the Screen Actors Guild strike hit in July and lasted until November, and when it ended, scheduling issues forced Cregger to recast the movie.

Cregger told Entertainment Weekly,...

Netflix to Stream All Episodes of Acclaimed Sci-Fi Action Series 'The Lazarus Project'
Image
One of the best modern sci-fi action shows is all set to land on Netflix. Featuring an ensemble of captivating characters, topical themes, intense shootouts, espionage action, and a complex time-travel plot that will have you both enthralled and confused (at times), the series is one of the most underrated shows to come out of Britain in recent years, and will hopefully now find a whole new audience thanks to streaming.

Created by Joe Barton, who recently found success on Netflix with his critically acclaimed spy thriller series, Black Doves, starring Keira Knightley, the series is titled The Lazarus Project, and stars soon-to-be-Snape Paapa Essiedu as a seemingly ordinary young Londoner who discovers that, thanks to an inherent gene in his physical makeup, he can experience time loops. What follows is a thrilling tale of global espionage and keeping the apocalypse from the door, but it’s probably just easier to read the official synopsis,...

‘Black Bag’ Blu-ray Review
Image
Stars: Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett, Gustaf Skarsgård, Tom Burke, Marisa Abela, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris, Kae Alexander, Pierce Brosnan | Written by David Koepp | Directed by Steven Soderbergh

There’s something deeply satisfying about watching Steven Soderbergh work in a minimalist mode – pared down, sharply composed, and operating with clinical precision. Black Bag is exactly that: a lean, cerebral spy thriller that trades explosions for glances, and car chases for loaded silences. It’s also one of the most deliciously grown-up films of the year.

From the moment the film begins, Soderbergh signals that we’re not in the world of shaken martinis or gadgetry. This is espionage as emotional warfare, and it plays out mostly in apartments, dinner tables, and discreet backrooms. The plot is deceptively simple: Michael Fassbender plays George, a British intelligence officer assigned to uncover a mole, who may be his own wife, played with icy finesse by Cate Blanchett.

Michael Fassbender’s 96% Rotten Tomatoes Spy Thriller Sets Streaming Release Date After Disappointing Box Office Run
Image
Steven Soderbergh’s Black Bag has finally concluded its run in theaters, and after falling short of one final box office milestone, the film just got a major streaming update. Peacock has announced that the Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett-led spy thriller will begin streaming on the platform on May 2, less than two months after the film hit theaters on March 14. Black Bag concluded its theatrical run with $21 million at the domestic box office and $16 million internationally for a worldwide total of $37 million. This comes on a $60 million production budget, meaning that the film didn’t even earn back its production cost and fell well short of breaking even. Fans can purchase Black Bag on Prime Video or Apple TV+ ahead of its Peacock debut.

Cate Blanchett Reveals She Is "Serious" About Leaving Acting Behind
Image
The celebrity lifestyle is glamorized to the extent that everyone, at least once, dreams of themselves being in that position. However, Cate Blanchett, star of The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001-2003), wants to leave the glitz and glam life behind. The legendary actress is seriously considering stepping out of the spotlight, simply because she wants to see what else life has to offer. While she isn't the only actor/actress to share these thoughts, and most likely won't be the last, Blanchett has accomplished what many, unfortunately, will never in a lifetime. She has won two Academy Awards, four BAFTA Awards, and four Golden Globes, among many other notable accolades.

Some actresses in the industry leave due to the lack of roles Hollywood has to offer. While that's unfortunate, it's not the case for Blanchett, who is currently promoting a new project. The 55-year-old is starring in her first radio drama,...

Breaking Baz: Cate Blanchett, Tom Burke And Emma Corrin Hoping To Land Their Soaring ‘Seagull’ In New York

The play, adapted by Duncan Macmillan and Ostermeier, is propelled by blasts of oomph. It feels so marvelously fresh that it could have been written today. Indeed, Macmillan and Ostermeier keep on eye on current events and amend their script as and when significant news emerges.

Like, on Thursday night, Jason Watkin’s Sorin made a point about the “f*cking high tariffs” he has to pay on his country estate’s farm produce, a clear reference to the tariffs introduced Wednesday by the Trump administration.

Black Bag (2025) Movie Ending Explained: Who Is Responsible for the Severus Leak?
Pierce Brosnan, Cate Blanchett, Tom Burke, Naomie Harris, Michael Fassbender, Regé-Jean Page, and Marisa Abela in Black Bag (2025)
It’s rare to see a movie like “Black Bag” (2025), where every moment feels vital. Not a scene, an acting decision, or a dialogue feels wasted in this spy thriller, which is inherently about the game of truth, lies, and deception. The information revealed can mean something as devastating as the information concealed. While staying economical with its creative choices, the film leaves us no room to look away. Cate Blanchett & Michael Fassbender's New Spy Thriller With Near-Perfect Rt Score Arrives on Digital
Image
Theaters are no longer the exclusive home of Black Bag. The spy thriller starring Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender is now available to stream on digital platforms.

Per Variety, Black Bag has landed on video-on-demand platforms like Prime Video and Apple TV in 4K Ultra HD for rent ($19.99) or digital purchase ($24.99). The arrival on digital comes less than a month after the movie hit theaters. Despite strong reviews, Black Bag failed to find an audience in theaters, so far grossing just $31.4 million worldwide against a production budget of $50-60 million.

Black Bag had quite the talent attached to it both in front and behind the camera. The spy thriller was directed by Steven Soderbergh, the acclaimed filmmaker behind Sex, Lies, and Videotape (1989), Contagion (2011), Logan Lucky (2017), and the Ocean's trilogy starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt. The screenplay was written by David Koepp, the fourth most successful screenwriter of all...

Michael Fassbender’s ‘Black Bag’ Crosses a Crucial Milestone Ahead of Digital Debut
Image
Having failed to meet Universal's standards, the spy thriller Black Bag will reportedly be given a digital release in a few days, less than a month after it debuted theatrically around the world. Directed by the prolific Steven Soderbergh, Black Bag has under-performed at the box office and stands little chance of recovering its reported production budget theatrically. It will, however, continue to make money once it lands on PVOD platforms. A couple of years ago, Universal and Focus Features witnessed the resurgence of Robert Eggers' The Northman on digital, after the historical epic delivered lukewarm results at the box office.

With $18 million domestically and another $12 million from overseas markets, Black Bag's cumulative global haul now stands at $31 million. This will probably be its final global box office milestone, as it heads towards streaming soon. Starring Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender, Black Bag is Soderbergh's second film of the year,...

'Blade Runner 2099' Shouldn't Copy the Original Sci-Fi Movie
Image
Prime Video has developed a strange reputation over the last few years for expanding beloved sci-fi/fantasy franchises. Following up on the success of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Prime Video will be turning its attention to the world of Blade Runner, as filming recently wrapped on the upcoming series, Blade Runner 2099. As the title indicates, the show will take place 50 years after the critical darling/financial flop Blade Runner 2049, while Ridley Scott, who helmed the original film, will be serving as a producer.

Thus far, the show’s premise has been kept tightly under wraps, but what little we know hints that Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh will serve as the lead. She’s set to play Olwen, a Replicant nearing the end of her life, and she’ll be joined by an ensemble cast including Hunter Schafer, Lewis Gribben, and Tom Burke (most...

Steven Soderbergh Admires the ‘Interesting Choices’ Timothée Chalamet Has Made as an Actor
Image
Being partly responsible for turning George Clooney into a movie star, Steven Soderbergh knows a thing or two about spotting a hitmaker. Sure, Clooney had the looks, the charm, and a juicy part on the hit medical drama “E.R.” that gave him the opportunity to hone his craft, but in casting him to lead “Out of Sight,” and their most successful collaboration, “Ocean’s Eleven,” Soderbergh gave him a leg up few stars manage to receive today. Nowadays, it seems acting is a talent you have to be born with, and no one knows this better than recent Oscar-nominee Timothée Chalamet.

“It would appear Timothée Chalamet is a movie star,” said Soderbergh in a recent interview with Men’s Health. “Like, this guy can make movies hits, and they’re a wide range of movies. So, everybody’s chasing him. I don’t know him, but he seems to be making interesting choices.

Michael Fassbender & Pierce Brosnan's New Spy Movie Enters A Highest-Grossing Box Office Chart Despite Slow Opening Weekend
Image
A new spy movie starring Michael Fassbender and Pierce Brosnan has pulled off a box office feat. Fassbender is a versatile actor who is perhaps best known for playing the young Magneto in the X-Men prequel movies beginning with 2011's First Class. However, in addition to starring in big-budget genre movies such as the superhero franchise, Assassin's Creed, and Prometheus, he has starred in a variety of dramas such as Shame, A Dangerous Method, Song to Song, Steve Jobs and 12 Years a Slave, the latter two of which earned him Oscar nominations.

While Pierce Brosnan does not have any Oscar nominations under his belt, he does have ample experience in the spy genre, having starred in four James Bond movies between 1995 and 2002. He played the iconic superspy in GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day, stepping into the role after the two-movie tenure...

The 24 Best Spy Movies, from ‘Enemy of the State’ to ‘North by Northwest’
Image
Shaken, stirred, or even streamed, spy movies make up many of the most exciting, edge-of-your-seat stories the movies have to offer. From the harrowing heights of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise to the suave savvy of six James Bonds, espionage has become the thematic ground on which some of cinema’s most epic dramas, thrillers, and comedies are built. Even films primarily centered on other subject matter make frequent use of spy drama beats, proving it’s a bedrock source for onscreen entertainment.

The espionage genre is as old as filmmaking itself with silent spy movies set against the backdrop of World War I (1914’s “The German Spy Peril” is on YouTube) testing the medium’s limitations early in the 20th century. Literary works inspired many more of the spy movies to follow. Over the years, filmmakers have repeatedly adapted the works of John le Carré, Robert Ludlum, Ian Fleming, and...

While details about the plot remain under wraps, Burke teased some exciting aspects of the series. He revealed that Blade Runner 2099 will have a visual style much closer to the original Blade Runner film, directed by Ridley Scott, than its sequel, Blade Runner 2049. Black Bag’s Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett & Cast On Steven Soderbergh’s Complicated, Sexy Thriller: “They’ve All Got Baggage”
Image
Black Bag is a new spy thriller in which every character is a hero in their own story–and likely a villain in somebody else’s. It tells the tale of married intelligence agents George and Kathryn Woodhouse, whose relationship is put to the ultimate test when Kathryn is suspected of treasonous behavior. Despite the fact that Soderbergh has released a movie every year since 2017, Black Bag has won over critics and sits with a 97% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, proving that the beloved filmmaker is showing no signs of fatigue.

Soderbergh won big praise from ScreenRant’s Black Bag review for bringing back the “sexy thriller”, but the success of that aspect of the movie rests on the performances of stars Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett. As George and Kathryn Woodhouse, the stars have on-screen chemistry that has won over audiences and reviewers alike. The cast is rounded out...
