Pierce Brosnan has teased his return as crime boss Conrad Harrigan, with the actor offering a promising update on the fate of his and Tom Hardy’s hit Paramount+ crime drama series, MobLand. Despite there being no official confirmation from the studio and streamer yet, speaking with MovieWeb’s own George Edelman, Brosnan revealed that he believes “they will be going ahead with a second season.”
Helmed by The Gentlemen director Guy Ritchie, MobLand stars Tom Hardy as Harry Da Souza, a fixer for the Harrigan family, Pierce Brosnan as Conrad Harrigan, the family patriarch, and Helen Mirren as Maeve Harrigan, the family matriarch, with the rest of the MobLand cast including Paddy Considine as Kevin Harrigan, Anson Boon as Eddie Harrigan, Geoff Bell as Richie Stevenson, and Joanne Froggatt as Jan Da Souza, Harry's wife. Taboo was a brilliant but underrated 2017 series by the great Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), with an incredible cast — co-creator Tom Hardy, Leo Bill, Jessie Buckley, Oona Chaplin, Mark Gatiss, Tom Hollander, Stephen Graham, and Jonathan Pryce. Knight said at the time of its release that he had plans for two more seasons, but then... nothing. News about the show trickled out of the industry pipeline over the years, with Knight saying in 2021 that six episodes were written, and producer Dean Baker confirming a second season in 2023. Now we've gotten our biggest update about Taboo yet, and it's not an April Fool's Day joke. Hardy confirmed Season 2 was being written, and while discussing his new show MobLand with MovieWeb, he told us about why it has taken so long and why he's still interested in Taboo.
"I've been busy," said Hardy as to why it's taken eight years. The excellent cast has been busy as well,...

Despite having only premiered yesterday, the fate of Tom Hardy’s new gangster series, MobLand, has already been revealed. Starring Hardy alongside fellow A-listers Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan, and helmed in part by director Guy Ritchie, MobLand finds Hardy starring as a “fixer” tasked with easing tensions between two warring crime families.
Speaking with Deadline at the premiere, Hardy was asked whether there would be a MobLand Season 2, to which he replied, “I hope so, I hope so.” Quickly turning to producer and CEO of 101 Studios, David Glasser, for help, Deadline asked the question again, to which Glasser replied unequivocally...
“There will be, there will be, yes there will be. Same team, same everybody. And Guy, and the directors Anthony Burns. Same actor, same actors.”

Of all the unofficial holidays derived from an apocryphal bit police code, 4/20 is by far the most enduring. And just as “420” has gradually become entrenched as stoner shorthand for marijuana, the date April 20 has become an opportunity not just for college kids looking to indulge in a little extralegal fun, but also for drug law reformers and other advocacy groups to stump for a more reasonable national attitude toward America’s big green weed of choice.
And as marijuana laws have shifted over the years—from outright prohibition, to limited medicinal usage, to tightly regulated recreational use within certain states—marijuana themed movies have likewise evolved. Once upon a time, the only movies that even touched the subject of pot were hysterical propaganda pieces like Reefer Madness. Then, from the 1960s onward, weed became a popular (and hip) subject of broad comedy—in everything from Animal House to Annie Hall to Friday.

Hell is Where the Home Is : Burns’ Dismally Heavy-handed Dark Comedy
Playing like the crass, harebrained sister of Gone Girl’s infidelity issued ‘hell hath no fury’ treatment like a you-know-what, Anthony Burns’ sophomore feature, Home Sweet Hell plays like a watered down knock-off on all variable fronts. Broadly drawn, familiar scenarios littered with quirky supporting characters comprise this crude lump of a movie, hewn from the burnt stump of privileged suburban malaise, a dish once perfected now over baked into mutations of vulgar shock effect. Surprisingly, however, the very aspect of the film that works against its own appeal happens to be the sole point of enjoyment. But it’s not enough to make the film worthwhile.

If you've been a movie-watcher for more than a few months, you know the suburbs of 21st-century America are merely a glossy façade behind which the darkest depths of human malice and corruption lurk. What's mildly surprising about Anthony Burns's Home Sweet Hell is how much it wrings from this premise while still seeming fresh. For that, credit the cast's enthusiasm. As furniture store owner Don Champagne, Patrick Wilson adopts a forced grin recognizable to any nuclear family man. Meanwhile, wife Mona (Katherine Heigl) embraces the alpha mom concept with gusto, going from scrubbing sink grout with a toothbrush to insisting that Don masturbate rather than deviate from their strictly scheduled sex life. Indeed, Mona is practically a parody of every negative...

When under the thumb of Katherine Heigl, a man can only take so much...at least that's how it goes in "Home Sweet Hell," an upcoming black comedy which finds the "Grey's Anatomy" star making life hell for Patrick Wilson. Today we have an exclusive clip from the film. Anthony Burns ("Skateland") directs and Jordana Brewster and James Belushi co-star in the movie about a man whose affair with a co-worker takes a deadly turn when his wife finds out. With the other woman revealing she's pregnant, the man's wife will stop at nothing to ensure her life remains picture perfect. In the clip below, you can see Wilson trying his best to spark some kind of intimacy and stand up for himself, but Heigl is having none of it. After that, you can check out the first ten minutes of the movie. "Home Sweet Hell" is now available on...

Since becoming America’s Sweetheart across the span of about four rom-coms, Katherine Heigl’s stock hasn’t exactly plummeted. Then again, it’s not been on the rise. Instead, it’s hovered indecisively while she committed to NBC’s latest drama, State Of Affairs. Whether she’s heading back to TV for the long haul or just waiting for a new movie direction, her performance in Home Sweet Hell hints at future in B-movies.
Directed by Anthony Burns (Skateland), the film stars Heigl as obsessive compulsive housewife, Mona, who makes her husband’s existence a living hell after she discovers he’s been unfaithful. Her poor spouse, a long-suffering furniture salesman named Don (Patrick Wilson), isn’t subjected to the normal ranting and raving of a wronged woman. Instead, Mona forces him to kill his pregnant mistress (Jordana Brewster), otherwise… well, if she’s making him commit homicide, then...

There's a lot of stories going around about just how unruly Katherine Heigl can be, and it looks like she's bringing some of that to the big screen in the form of a ridiculous and terrible looking thriller called Home Sweet Hell. A red band trailer for the film has just surfaced, showing off the story of Don (Patrick Wilson) who seems to have the perfect marriage, life and house until a sexy young woman (Jordana Brewster) comes along, sleeps with him, and then blackmails him for money unless he tells his wife (Heigl) about the affair. Things get interesting, so to speak, when his wife decides to kill the tricky vixen. Watch? Here's the first red band trailer for Anthony Burns' Home Sweet Hell, originally from Yahoo: Home Sweet Hell is directed by Anthony Burns (Skateland) and written by relatively unknown writers Carlo Allen, Tom Lavagnino and Ted Elrick.

Did you know that Patrick Wilson, Katherine Heigl and Jordana Brewster made a movie together? Probably not and this new red band trailer proves why. Anthony Burns’ Skateland follow-up, Home Sweet Hell, looks absolutely ridiculous. But the question is, is it a so bad it’s good type of situation? Wilson leads the film as Don Champagne. He used to be a used car salesman, but now he’s got it all – a beautiful home, loving marriage and his very own rugs and furniture store. But then Brewster’s character comes in and ruins it all. She sleeps with Don and then blackmails him for money by threatening to tell his wife. The thing is, Mona Champagne (Heigl) isn’t about to leave her man over a little fling; she’d rather just kill Brewster instead. Hit the jump to check out the Home Sweet Hell trailer. No word on a release date just yet,...

The elusive “Golden Ticket”. Beginning next Wednesday (December 4th) in a wave of four announcements, is when the official word comes out. Plenty of filmmakers are already in the know, but some will find out over the course of this Thanksgiving weekend. Having covered the festival and fest circuit for some time now, we’re already aware that worthy films that were indeed submitted will be excluded from the ’14 edition. Thousands of filmmakers won’t get the phone call, and while it can bruise dreams, this is not a rejection of quality…but rather, a preference from a programmer/programming team which reflects a larger mandate. John Cooper, Trevor Groth et al. have a difficult job and the way I see it, it’s the equivalent to draft day for a major professional sport – where a team in a given turn doesn’t go for the consensus pick, but instead...

We were big fans of Anthony Burns’ debut film, the visually strong coming-of-ager sans pretension and a nod to the Dazed and Confused sorts with just the right character set. Skateland deserved a little more fanfare than the one it got back in 2011, but Burns round two North of Hell, should receive a lot more fanfare with its cast alone. Pitting Patrick Wilson, Jordana Brewster, Kevin McKidd with Katherine Heigl, this dramedy began shooting in March-ish of this year…so we’re banking on this being already prepped for festival season.

Deadline is reporting that Patrick Wilson and Katherine Heigl have signed on to star in the dark comedy North of Hell for Dark Entertainment. In the film Wilson will play Don Champage, “a successful businessman who seems to have it all — including an obsessive wife (Heigl) who relentlessly controls everything in his life.”
Hmm… Heigl as an overbearing, bitchy type? Seems like typecasting to me. I try to avoid anything she’s in like the plague. That being said, Wilson is a solid lead and I usually enjoy his flicks, so I may have to check this one out.

Finally released on DVD in the UK after premiering almost three years ago at Sundance and a whopping 16 months after it’s UK premiere on Sky Movies, Skateland is set in the early 1980?s in small-town Texas and tells the story of the dramatic events that force a 19-year old skating rink manager (Fernandez) to look at his life in a new way.
One part Adventureland and one part Richard Linklater’sDazed and Confused, Skateland is yet another period-set coming of age story set in the early 80s and follows a very similar format to Linklater’s film – kids hanging out shooting the shit while contemplating their future. Have you ever wondered what are the films that inspire the next generation of visionary filmmakers? As part of our monthly Ioncinephile profile (June 2011), we ask the filmmaker the incredibly arduous task of identifying their top ten list of all-time favorite films. This month we asked Anthony Burns, the filmmaker behind the Sundance selected Skateland to share his list with us. Enjoy! Annie Hall - Woody Allen (1977) ”I named my dog after Woody Allen because of this film. It’s Allen at his pessimistic, rambling best all within the backdrop of a gripping romantic love story. " Audition - Takashi Miike (2000) ”The perfect social commentary about the way women are at times unfairly treated, although Takashi Miike will not admit that was its intended purpose. A roller coaster that never goes down, only up, building and building until a seemingly innocent melodrama turns into an insane thriller. And like Haneke, Miike...

Skateland Review
If you have warm recollections about skating rinks and jelly bracelets, then 80s-era indie drama Skateland will probably be a nostalgic movie stroll. It premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and finally got a limited theatrical release last week. Skateland is a solid coming-of-age drama, though the unexceptional storyline and characters offer nothing new. Shiloh Fernandez (Red Riding Hood) stars in Anthony Burns’ directorial debut as a young man who finds his world suddenly changing. Ritchie and his pals live in small-town Texas in the early 80s, where Ritchie manages the local hotspot skating rink, Skateland. Ritchie is stuck in a rut, and unable to make any big life decisions he’s content to coast along hanging with his female best bud Michelle (Ashley Greene) and partying at the lake with loaded friend Kenny (Taylor Handley).

Aj Buckley has been an extremely busy actor.
As the go-to-guy in the Lab, Aj Buckley is most acclaimed for his role as Adam Ross on CBS' CSI: NY, portraying a gifted scientist who brings humor to dark situations.
In the critically acclaimed Skateland, set for release tonight, Aj stars as Teddy Tulos, the heartfelt, captivating owner of an early 1980s small-town Texas skating rink.
Here's Reel Movie News' Q&A with Buckley:
Tell me about Skateland.
There’s films that come along in your career as scripts that you really want to be a part of. I remember reading this scripts and calling my agent and manager and saying that I’d so anything to be a part of it. When the offer came through, the dates couldn’t work out with CSI, but then Skateland changed things and CSI worked things out so I could go out there and do it.

Cultivating a longing for a time one didn't live through is nostalgia's version of unrequited love. The result is pure, unfiltered by memory, uncolored by disappointment, sustained by imagination and its very impossibility -- a bulletproof romantic play. I was weaned on reruns of Happy Days and Grease, then The Wonder Years and Stand By Me, and I bet Skateland writer and director Anthony Burns was too.

Title: Skateland Directed By: Anthony Burns Starring: Shiloh Fernandez, Heath Freeman, Ashley Greene, Taylor Handley, Haley Ramm, Brett Cullen, A.J. Buckley, Melinda McGraw Yes, the summer movie season is revving up, but before you switch gears and put your brain on cruise control, there’s a little something on the more thoughtful side to check out. Forget the fact that it involves zero CGI, Skateland is simple, sheerly in terms of story. Some moments do drag, but overall, Skateland is a nice and leisurely walk in some modest characters’ shoes. Ritchie Wheeler (Shiloh Fernandez) is a recent high school grad and aspiring writer. Well, perhaps aspiring isn’t the right word as...

There have been many movies about the '80s but few look back at the period with such a sense of nostalgia and sentimentality as Anthony Burns' Skateland , a film set in a small town in Texas where the local skating rink of the same name is the main hangout for most of the town's teens. Shiloh Fernandez's Ritchie Wheeler has been managing Skateland for years since graduating high school, but he's yet to find the ambition to do something else with his life. Playing Ritchie's childhood friend Michelle Burkham is Ashley Greene, the 24-year-old actress best known for playing Alice Cullen in the "Twilight" movies, and she helps push him to try to do more with his writing. Her older brother Brent, played by the film's co-writer Heath Freeman, is a motocross biker whose return...

Director Anthony Burns has the right idea with the opening shots, starting with Skateland, where the audience gets a glimpse of the simple and seemingly easy-going life of Ritchie Wheeler (Shiloh Fernandez). But what is an all-American boy? Ritchie seems like a nice guy, laid-back and kind to his family and friends. But within the next 10 minutes, we find out he has his quirks and issues. Shortly after being introduced to him,...

It’s easy to forget that actress Ashley Greene has a career beyond The Twilight Saga thanks to the enormity of that franchise. Well, not only does she have a few non-Twilight projects on the way, but way back when, before the first Twilight film even hit theaters, Greene was hard at work on another production, Anthony Burns’ Skateland.
