Dean DeBlois wrote and directed all three of the animated How to Train Your Dragon movies, which were inspired by the series of books by written by Cressida Cowell. Now DeBlois has written, directed, and produced a live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon – and now it’s gotten an official premiere date. The movie will be making its world premiere at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on April 2nd. Other movies that recently premiered at this exhibitors covention (which we’ll be attending) include Ghostbusters: Afterlife, The Flash and Top Gun: Maverick.
How to Train Your Dragon focuses on the special friendship between a young and unheroic Viking boy named Hiccup, and Toothless, an injured dragon he nurses back to health. The movies chronicled Hiccup and Toothless’ quest to combat humanity’s prejudice against dragons, the ache of overcoming the loss of a parent, and first love.

Patrick Wilson on Whether He Wanted to Do More ‘Aquaman’ Movies: “I’m happy with that ship sailing.”
Before becoming a well-known name in movies and TV, Patrick Wilson earned two Tony nominations for his performances in The Full Monty and Oklahoma! in the early 2000s. He also played Raoul in the 2004 film adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera, starring alongside Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler.
In the years that followed, he stepped away from musicals and took on roles in horror films like Insidious and The Conjuring franchises. He also played Orm (Ocean Master) in the Aquaman movies.
When asked if he wanted more than two Aquaman films, Wilson was honest. ‘Was I hoping it would be more? I don’t think so,’ he said. He explained that Orm had a full arc—villain in the first movie, ally in the second—so he wasn’t sure where else the character could go. He wasn’t signed on for a third film and had no frustration about it.

Another Jason Statham action thriller, Mutiny – this one from the director of Plane – has its US release set for January 2026.
Jason Statham, whose action output appears to be increasing over time, is currently shooting an untitled thriller somewhere in the UK or Ireland as these words are being typed. Meanwhile, an action thriller he shot in the autumn of 2024, Mutiny, now has a US release date – 9th January 2026.
Mutiny is the work of French director Jean-François Richet, who previously brought us the robust Gerard Butler thriller, Plane, which happens to include one of the most unfortunately-named fictional airline companies in film history.
According to Deadline, Statham will star as one Cole Reed, a private security specialist who’s framed for the murder of his billionaire boss. It sort of sounds a bit like 1993’s The Fugitive, though we suspect Statham’s Cole will break more jaws and ribs than Harrison Ford did as Richard Kimble.

Jean-François Richet, the screenwriter, filmmaker and producer behind some of France’s boldest thrillers such as “Mesrine” starring Vincent Cassel, has signed with CAA.
Richet made a splash with his feature debut, “Inner City” (“Etat des lieux”), which was set against the backdrop of a crime-ridden project and scored a César Award nomination. Richet went on direct “Ma 6-t va crack-er” and “Assault on Precinct 13,” a pair of thought-provoking films which also depicted gang violence. His biggest success is the sprawling two-part thriller “Mesrine” with Cassel playing the ruthless, yet charismatic gangster Jacques Mesrine. Richet won best director at Cesar Awards for “Mesrine.” He also directed Mel Gibson in “Blood Father” which played at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016.
The filmmaker has now launched the production vehicle Public Enemy and looks to produce six genre films per year.

If we’re holding up the all-time best bank robbery movies, a special place is reserved for classics like Bonnie and Clyde, Dog Day Afternoon, Heat, and a handful more. But when it comes to the most underrated recent cinematic bank heists, Christian Gudegast’s 2018 movie Den of Thieves ranks right up there with the most entertaining and hyper-violent examples like The Town, Point Break, Hell or High Water, and the like. Now that Gudegast recently unloaded Den of Thieves 2: Pantera on the masses this January, it’s high time to reflect on the making of the original.
While a tad long and baldly inspired by Michael Mann’s Heat, Den of Thieves was released in January 2018 to commercial success and middling critical acclaim. Viola Davis stars as a tough, actually decent US President foiling a terrorist plot in the forthcoming Prime Video thriller, G20. Here’s the trailer.
A trailer has emerged for G20, the upcoming film from Amazon Studios. Here’s a quick synopsis that also folds Davis’ turn as an all-action US president into a much wider-legacy of films in the same gung-ho tradition:
US President Danielle Sutton must defend her family, fellow leaders and the world when the G20 summit in Cape Town, South Africa is taken over by terrorists.
‘President vs terrorists’ is by now its own action subgenre. From Harrison Ford’s stoic turn in Wolfgang Petersen’s Air Force One to Gerard Butler protecting Aaron Eckhart in Antoine Fuqua’s ‘Die Hard in the White House’ action film Olympus Has Fallen and, from the same year, Channing Tatum protecting Jamie Foxx in Roland Emmerich’s White House Down.

The beloved How to Train Your Dragon animated film is getting a live-action adaptation, and, on top of perfectly translating its iconic dragons to real life, the new version of the story will be giving Astrid more to do.
The original film was released in 2010, and it's honestly surprising that it took fifteen years to bring it into live-action—but, regardless, audiences are excited for it to finally be here.
How to Train Your Dragon star Gerard Butler, who is reprising his role of Stoick the Vast, previously teased to the Direct that this new adaptation "feels much more involved and just immersive," even adding that it's "a lot more scary."

Live-action remakes of animated movies are all the rage in Hollywood at the moment. These are the streaming era's answer to the Disney vault of decades past. Now that movies are widely available on streaming, simply hiding a movie for 10 years only to do a grand re-release in theaters isn't feasible. Instead, Disney, and now DreamWorks, are all about spending hundreds of millions of dollars re-imagining beloved animated movies with live-action and/or, in certain cases, purely CGI instead.
The latest one, "How to Train Your Dragon," is a remake of an animated feature that turns 15 in 2025 and is pretty much undeniably one of the best movies DreamWorks Animation has ever made. There's reason to be excited, too, as Dean DeBlois who directed the original animated "How to Train Your Dragon" with Chris Sanders, is back to helm the live-action retelling — meaning, the guiding creative vision remains the same.

Universal dropped the first trailer for the DreamWorks “How to Train Your Dragon” live-action remake on February 12, following the high-flying teaser seen during the Super Bowl. IndieWire got a sneak peek of the trailer (boasting some familiar moments from the animated original) and three scenes at a recent Universal presentation at the studio with director Dean DeBlois.
The live-action remake revisits the Viking dragon slayers on the island of Berk, led by Chief Stoic (reprised by Gerard Butler). The new film concerns the secret friendship between Stoic’s son, Hiccup (Mason Thames), and Toothless, the rare Night Rider dragon. The focus of the trailer and footage was on big-screen spectacle.
In the first scene, Hiccup awkwardly struggles during dragon training, while the badass Astrid (Nico Parker) excels with more talent and confidence. In the second scene, Hiccup disastrously attempts to tame a wild dragon during his test of courage in the arena,...

The new trailer and poster for the live-action How to Train Your Dragon have finally been unleashed (via SFFGazette.com), and all signs point to the movie doing right by the beloved DreamWorks Animation classic...by not being all that different from it.
Toothless looks amazing, as do the rest of the dragons that take centre stage here. All signs point to this being an epic fantasy movie in its own right, and regardless of how much the original How to Train Your Dragon achieved on screen in 2010, the visuals showcased in this sneak peek are on a completely different level.
In terms of the human characters, it appears as if we can expect their personality and relationships to be better fleshed out in this reimagining. Filmmaker Dean DeBlois confirmed that was a priority during a recent interview with The Wrap.

"It's up to us!!" "Us??" "Stick with me..." There be dragons! This highly anticipated shot-for-shot remake of the animated classic is flying into theaters everywhere in June in the summer. The original Httyd opened back in 2010, which went on to get two more sequels. The story follows a young Viking boy as he aspires to help hunt dragons, and how he becomes unexpectedly a friend of a young dragon he decides to name Toothless. From the same director as all three of the original animated movies that came before - Dean DeBlois is behind this live-action one as well. In this new Httyd, Mason Thames (seen in The Black Phone) stars as Hiccup, Gerard Butler as Stoick, Nico Parker as Astrid, with Nick Frost,...

There are plenty of reasons why How To Train Your Dragon has endured as a generation’s animated coming-of-age saga – beyond the gorgeous music, those colourful dragons, and all that enticing lore, the bond between human kid Hiccup and deeply adorable ‘Night Fury’ dragon Toothless is – and always has been – pure magic. Now, that relationship is being explored again in live-action, 15 years after the arrival of the original film, with The Black Phone’s Mason Thames in the Hiccup role, and Toothless being played by… well, Toothless. Could you really have cast anyone else? Watch the trailer here:
While those protective of the original might be worried about this sacred text falling into the wrong hands, director Dean DeBlois (who oversaw the entire animated trilogy) is helming here. And it looks like many of the story’s most pivotal moments are being presented faithfully – though with the added fidelity of photorealistic textures,...

The live-action How to Train Your Dragon has unveiled its trailer, and the movie’s director is grateful for the chance to tell his story in a fresh way.
After debuting an excerpt during Super Bowl Lix, Universal Pictures released the full trailer ahead of the film hitting theaters June 13. The live-action feature is a remake of DreamWorks Animation’s hit animated movie of the same name that was released in 2010.
Writer-director Dean DeBlois’ new How to Train Your Dragon stars Mason Thames as Hiccup and Nico Parker as Astrid. Rounding out the cast are Gerard Butler, Nick Frost and Julian Dennison. DeBlois, who has been involved with the franchise since its start, wrote and directed the new project that is based on the 2010 animated film he co-directed with Chris Sanders.
During a trailer-unveiling event that was attended by The Hollywood Reporter, DeBlois discussed the origins of the new movie.

Dean DeBlois is getting ready to show off footage from his live-action adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon.” But he wants to explain some things first.
The filmmaker — an animation legend who made “Lilo & Stitch” and the original “How to Train Your Dragon” with Chris Sanders and directed two more “How to Train Your Dragon” installments for DreamWorks Animation on his own — had flirted with live-action filmmaking before. He had sold a number of spec scripts, including “Sightings,” which would have beaten “Stranger Things” to the Spielbergian punch by a good decade. But none of those materialized. Now, with “How to Train Your Dragon” (2025), he finally has his shot.
“I myself am not a huge fan of the animation-to-live-action trend,” DeBlois admitted to TheWrap from an edit bay on the Universal Studios lot. “Universal wanted to revisit this story. It’s like, ‘We’re going to do it. Let...

Greenland director Ric Roman Waugh is now directing a new, untitled Jason Statham action thriller, with filming underway in the UK and Ireland.
Last May, we heard about one of a several forthcoming projects from action specialist, Jason Statham. It didn’t have a title, but it did have a premise: Statham, roaming about on a Scottish island under the assumed name of Mason, and rescuing a little girl in the middle of a raging storm.
Filming was set to begin in November 2024, with the attached director being Baltasar Kormakur, perhaps best known for his somewhat tame survival movie, Everest.
As of February 2025, things appear to have changed somewhat. Filming did not get underway in 2024. Kormakur is out and a new director is in: step forward Ric Roman Waugh, who directed Gerard Butler in the beefy end-of-the-world thriller, Greenland. Under his stewardship, the production is now due to get underway in the UK and Ireland,...

Studiocanal is heading into a new era. Not only is the Paddington producer coming off the back of a banner year, with its titles having grossed close to $300M at the global box office in 2024 (up 94% year-on-year), but in December its parent company Canal+ made a headline-grabbing debut on the London Stock Exchange after it was spun off from Vincent Bolloré’s French media conglomerate Vivendi.
While the launch was well below the €6.851Bn (£5.71Bn) valuation Vivendi had hoped for – Canal+ floated on the Lse with an initial market value of £2.5Bn ($3.1Bn) – internally, the IPO (which marked the largest debut on the Lse since 2022) is viewed as a promising next step for the company as it continues the growth trajectory it has been on across the last two decades.

While Disney has had no problem going back to some of their biggest animated hits to transform them into live-action movies, that only forces the hand of other studios to do the same. It’s your time to fly, Hiccup.
A new teaser for “How to Train Your Dragon,” the live action adaptation of the acclaimed animated series, made its debut during the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 9. The teaser is a high-flying spectacle that remains true to the look of the animated original film from 2010 while making everything else much more photorealistic.
In a teaser from November, we got to see the young Viking Hiccup (Mason Thames) as he encounters an especially rare, mythical dragon he comes to name Toothless. The design of Toothless and that scene in particular is strikingly similar to the first meeting between character and dragon in the original animated film, though with some touched up animation and CGI from the VFX house Framestore. The new trailer offers a more in-depth look at some of the action, humor, and heart that the original had in spades.

You can depend on a few things happening during the Super Bowl – two titans of football colliding (in this case the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles), commercials featuring big-time movie stars and, of course, movie trailers for some of the year’s most highly anticipated titles.
And this year, Super Bowl Lix was no different.
If you’re looking for all of the Super Bowl trailers in one place, we’ve got you covered, with an updated list below.
“Jurassic World Rebirth”
Sure, a new “Jurassic World Rebirth” spot aired before kick-off, but we aren’t holding that against them. This new “Jurassic World” installment, the first since 2022’s “Jurassic World Dominion” closed off that trilogy, features Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey and Rupert Friend. Live-action remakes aren’t just Disney’s anymore. Universal debuted a full look at the reimagining of DreamWorks Animation’s beloved “How to Train Your Dragon” during the Super Bowl, releasing a stirring new trailer after a spot during the NFL championship game.
Like the original film from 2010, this remake follows the isle of Berk, where vikings and dragons have long been enemies. But when Hiccup (Mason Thames) goes against centuries of tradition to befriend Toothless, a Night Fury dragon, he disrupts the community and opens up new possibilities for both vikings and dragons alike. The teaser shows their initial meeting, with a wary Hiccup gently reaching out to touch Toothless on the snout, slowly earning his trust.
“I’m the first viking who wouldn’t kill a dragon,” Hiccup says.

The latest trailer for Universal's live-action update of "How to Train Your Dragon" is here, once again making us wonder: Why do we need this movie when the animated version is already great? The new footage offers no answers, but by dropping during Super Bowl Lix, it'll no doubt inspire a few million more people to ask the question.
Admittedly, this new installment in the franchise (which began with the cartoon feature of the same name in 2010) does have a few things going for it, including the return of original trilogy writer-director Dean DeBlois and an animation style that somehow manages to capture the overwhelming cuteness of its heroic black dragon, Toothless.
The first trailer for the live-action "How to Train Your Dragon," which dropped in November 2024 before screening in theaters with Universal's "Wicked," didn't stray from the original film much at all in terms of its visuals or plot beats.

Zack Snyder made a name for himself diving into controversial lores and subjects that made Hollywood more uncomfortable than they’d like to admit. The director who brought a 100-year-old legacy studio to its knees is worth paying attention to and yet, Snyder’s own legacy remains colored by his misjudged and underrated classics.

With a portfolio that contains such visually artistic and revolutionary films as 300, Watchmen, Justice League Snyder’s Cut, and Rebel Moon, Zack Snyder could command any studio to lend him a project of his choice. But his difficult past makes him a high-risk individual in this ostentatious and superficial industry.
It’s no wonder that Snyder’s brilliance is often overshadowed by the dirty politics that help keep Hollywood relevant in the world of popular culture.

Conclave Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Isabella Rossellini, and Carlos Diehz
Director: Edward Berger
Conclave Movie Review Out ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
What’s Good: Excellent performances, sets, cinematography, and costumes make this film something to behold on every level.
What’s Bad: As expected, the film starts becoming a bit preachy towards the end, deleting all the nuance that the story had before, making it compelling in the first place.
Loo Break: The film’s pacing is quite special, and there are very few places where something important is not happening, so no breaks.
Watch or Not?: Yes, this is a must-watch, especially now that it is an Academy Award nominee.
Language: English (with subtitles).
Available On: Theaters, VOD
Runtime: 120 Minutes.
User Rating:

“How to Train Your Dragon” will be released in theaters on June 13, 2025. It is a remake of the animated film series that began with a 2010 animated film, produced by DreamWorks Animation. It is based on the book series by Cressida Cowell and, hopefully, it will continue the original movie’s legacy.
“How to Train Your Dragon“ Storyline:
Everyone knows that Vikings and dragons have been enemies ever since they realized they live on the same planet, on the same isle. This is why the story of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III is so horrendous! He befriended a dragon. No Viking has even done that! It’s unheard of. It’s unacceptable. It’s impossible! Isn’t it?
Not impossible for Hiccup. Not only does he befriend the scary Night Fury dragon named Toothless, but he trains the creature! Who does that? Certainly not a Viking! It’s against all the rules of Viking society!
