Late last year, we got word that The Mummy is set to rise from its tomb once again, with director Lee Cronin taking the helm of a new movie from Blumhouse/Atomic Monster. Now, as production gets underway, the studio has announced that the project has found its lead.

Jack Reynor is set to star, though we don't have any details on his role.

Reynor's other credits include Lenny Abrahamson's What Richard Did, for which he won the Itfa Award for Best Actor; John Carney's Sing Street, for which he won the Itfa Award for Best Supporting Actor, as well as Carney’s Flora and Son; Ben Wheatley's Free Fire and Kathryn Bigelow's Detroit. In 2015, he won the Sundance Film Festival’s Dramatic Special Jury Award for Acting for his performance in Gerard Barrett’s film Glassland. The Mummy is set to rise from its tomb once again, with director Lee Cronin at the helm.

Coming off the success of his thrillingly nasty Evil Dead Rise revival (check out our review here), the Irish filmmaker was announced as director of an untitled horror project with a release date of April 17, 2026 earlier this year. Now, Blumhouse, Atomic Monster and Warner Bros. have revealed that it will actually be a new take on the classic Universal Monster.

Cronin will also pen the script.

"This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before. I'm digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening," said Cronin in a statement.

This January, NBCUniversal is offering fans the chance to dive into some of Universal Pictures’ most gruesome classic films ever made on one of the world’s biggest horror YouTube channels, ‘Fear: The Home of Horror.’

Starting January 15th 2021 horror fans will have the opportunity to scare away the January blues and take a step back in time to watch an incredible array of classic re-mastered cult films for Free including Dracula (1931), Frankenstein (1931), The Mummy (1932), The Invisible Man (1933), The Wolf Man (1941), Bride of Frankenstein (1935) and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948).

Each film will premiere individually and be available to watch for seven days on the Fear: The Home of Horror YouTube channel. Additionally, during each film’s premiere week, fans will have the opportunity to add these films to their digital collection at a discounted price, allowing them to watch whenever they want, for as many times as they want!

The 2016 blu ray release of the Frankenstein and Wolf Man Legacy Collections was a moment of celebration for movie and monster lovers everywhere, bringing together all the golden age appearances of Frankenstein’s misbegotten creation and Larry Talbot’s hairy alter-ego. A Review Revisit.

The unique political fantasy Gabriel Over the White House has become painfully topical lately. This is an update of a 2009 review. To my knowledge nothing has changed with the product — I saw a re-promotion of Twilight Time’s 1984 disc and thought, Gabriel is twice as relevant and at least as scary.

Bette Davis on TCM: The Old Maid, Now, Voyager, The Working Man Bette Davis has a cameo in John Paul Jones (1959), which happens to be an insufferable bore despite the presence of Robert Stack in the title role, and she plays second banana to Spencer Tracy in the run-of-the-Warners-mill prison drama 20,000 Years in Sing Sing (1932), but she is at the center of The Corn Is Green (1945) as Miss Lily Moffat, a teacher in a poor Welsh mining town. Now, Voyager's Irving Rapper directed this film adaptation of Emlyn Williams' semi-autobiographical play — and it shows. Davis is a little too stiff in Ethel Barrymore's Broadway role, John Dall fails to convey his character's emotional turmoil, the dialogue has a theatrical lilt to it, and for the most part the potentially compelling drama feels stilted. Had William Wyler directed The Corn Is Green, it would have been a fantastic movie.

Yes, they do show prison movies in prison.

So reports Dawson Brown, acting superintendent of that famous prison in Ossining, who will participate in a panel discussion following a showing of "20,000 Years in Sing Sing" to a less captive audience in the city Wednesday.

The 1933 prison drama, with Spencer Tracy as a convict and Bette Davis as his moll, is being shown as part of the Con Film Festival, running through May 21 at Film Forum in lower Manhattan.
