One of this year’s funniest comedies, Friendship, is available to rent or purchase on Digital! You can rent the Tim Robinson-led film for $19.99 or buy the feature digitally for $24.99 on Prime Video, Apple TV, and other video-on-demand platforms. If physical media is your poison, you can pre-purchase the movie on Blu-ray and DVD at participating retailers. The physical version of Friendship does not have a release date, but A24 should let us know when it’s coming to shelves soon.
Written and directed by Andrew DeYoung, the film stars Tim Robinson (I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson) and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) in the story of a suburban dad (Robinson) who becomes hellbent on being BFFs with his charismatic new neighbor (Rudd). In his review, Chris Bumbray wrote that the film is, in addition to being very funny, “surprisingly nuanced about how hard it is to make friends as an adult male.

JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray had the chance to watch the comedy Friendship at the Toronto International Film Festival last year – and he loved it, giving it an 8/10 review that you can read at This Link. A24 picked up the distribution rights to the film back in September, and they’re planning to give it a theatrical release on May 9th (after screening it at SXSW in March). To start building the hype, A24 has just released a trailer for Friendship, and you can check it out in the embed above.

Jason Statham is a man who knows how to please a crowd, and even if his movies are hammered into the ground by critics, he can manage to blast his way to a spectacular victory every time. While he found huge critical and commercial success with 2024’s collaboration with director David Ayer on The Beekeeper, back in 2016, Mechanic: Resurrection was buried under the weight of a 31% Tomatometer score, but now the film just refuses to lay down and die on the free streaming platform, Tubi.
Following up his 2011 hit, The Mechanic, it was a no-brainer for Statham to reprise his role as Arthur Bishop, a master assassin coerced out of retirement to carry out more increasingly impossible hits. The movie has plenty of the usual intense and over-the-top action sequences, accompanied by a simple plot, and plenty of the usual Statham swagger to boot. Along for the ride in the sequel is Jessica Alba,...

Babygirl is climbing a major chart as it nears one full month in theaters. The A24 movie, which was written and directed by Halina Reijn, stars Nicole Kidman as Romy Mathis, a CEO who begins an illicit affair with her intern Samuel (Harris Dickinson) which allows her to explore her repressed sexual desires. The Babygirl release kicked off on Christmas Day and, while it was the third highest-grossing new release of the day behind Nosferatu and A Complete Unknown, it has quickly earned back its $20 million budget in theaters.
Per The Numbers, Babygirl has reached a worldwide gross of $29.3 million as of Friday, January 17. This sees it climbing the chart of the highest-grossing A24 movies of all time, surpassing 2017's The Disaster Artist ($28.72 million) to become the nineteenth best-performing release by the independent studio and distributor. However, it is still quite far from the grosses of the movies at the top of the chart,...

Harris Dickinson, star of A24's erotic drama Babygirl, said there was a particular line in the film he didn't want to say to co-star Nicole Kidman during filming.
During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show (via The Wrap), the actor told the host that he related to his character Samuel's position in the film as a lowly young intern approaching and ultimately dominating powerful CEO Romy, given that he himself is a relative newcomer in the film business sharing such emotionally and physically intimate scenes with a powerhouse actor like Kidman.
"For an intern to do that as well to the boss — that was hard to do, as well," Dickinson said. "Like for me to have to come in and do that to Nicole Kidman, and I was like, well how do I do this?"

Thanks to Babygirl, Nicole Kidman just crossed a major box office milestone for the first time in nearly two decades. The 2024 release sees Kidman as CEO Romy Mathis as she attempts an affair with Harris Dickinson's Samuel. Babygirl has earned exceptional reviews, with Screen Rant's Alex Harrison describing it as "fascinating to watch" and "calibrated exactly right to its time". It was officially released on December 25, 2024, and has already earned back its $20 million budget.
This movie is a massive success for Kidman, no matter how its run ends. After all, for the first time since Australia (2008), Kidman has earned over $20 million domestically. Her latest movie currently sits at $21.7 million at the domestic box office, as per The Numbers. While she has achieved that total with other projects, including both the Aquaman movies and Paddington (2014), none of those works saw her in a leading role. It is her first...

Nicole Kidman recently received an award for her performance in the latest A24 movie, Babygirl, and celebrated the win in a way that was very appropriate to the film. Following the televised and heavily publicized Golden Globes Awards Ceremony, the National Board of Review hosted its own awards ceremony, where more actors got an opportunity to receive attention for their films. While there were plenty of interesting wins, such as Daniel Craig for Best Actor in Queer, it was Nicole Kidman's acceptance speech that drew plenty of attention.
Upon receiving the award, Kidman took to the stage with a glass of milk, which she proceeded to chug after dedicating the win to “all of the babygirls in the room.” The film, written, directed, and produced by Halina Reijn, was also distributed by A24, a production company known for its clever and inspired marketing for its films. Dexter — a punchy indictment of all-too-common prosecutorial failures — remains as stingingly relevant as ever. For lovers of tales about clever, meticulous, and oft-weird characters, the show will never expire. And things are seemingly getting better. The crime drama’s fans never thought they’d have it this good, considering how poorly things ended the first time around. Debra’s death and Dexter’s happy ending arc in the finale left a bad taste in fans’ mouths. Beyond that, the final season, in general, was considered weak by most critics, scoring 35% on Rotten Tomatoes (the lowest for any season). Thankfully, the brilliant minds at Showtime have made serious efforts to write the wrongs.

It's easy to be excited by a thriller, especially an erotic one. The genre is designed to elicit that response in us. But with Babygirl, writer-director Halina Reijn has delivered an erotic thriller so confident and so fully formed that it also left me excited for it. A24’s new erotic thriller Babygirl has caused a lot of buzz this holiday season, but not for the reasons you might think. While some have called it "sexy, dark and unpredictable," others are signaling the noticeable age gap between stars Nicole Kidman (57) and Harris Dickinson (28) as a point of contention. Now, director Halina Reijn has found herself coming to the defense of her new movie, which opened on Christmas day with a box office take of $1.5 million.
Babygirl stars Kidman as Romy Mathis, the CEO of a tech company in New York City who begins a torrid affair with her much younger intern, Samuel (Dickinson). The film is currently Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 77% rating, while its Popcornmeter sits much lower at 54%. Moviegoers may have noticed some similarities between Babygirl – Nicole Kidman's new film about a powerful CEO having an affair with one of her young interns (Harris Dickinson) – and Eyes Wide Shut, Kidman's 1999 collaboration with then-husband Tom Cruise and celebrated director Stanley Kubrick. Both films are sexually charged character studies about illicit affairs set at Christmastime. According to writer-director Halina Reijn, these similarities are no coincidence. Her film is in direct conversation with the Kubrick mind-melter, only instead of following a man, Reijn's film follows a woman in a static relationship seeking sexual satisfaction outside her marriage.
Reijn explained her motivations in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, noting that she became fascinated with an early scene in Eyes Wide Shut in which Kidman's character, Alice, tells her husband, William (Cruise), about a fantasy she had while the couple were vacationing. In her fantasy, Alice has sex with a man she noticed at the bar,...

The Babygirl release will follow a typical route from theaters to digital to streaming. The 2024 erotic thriller was written and directed by Halina Reijn (Bodies Bodies Bodies) and features an ensemble cast that includes Oscar winner Nicole Kidman, Oscar nominee Antonio Banderas, two-time BAFTA nominee Harris Dickinson, and rising star Sophie Wilde.
Early Babygirl reviews, many of which came out of its premiere at the Venice International Film Festival in August, have earned the movie a solidly Fresh score of 89% on the review aggregator web site Rotten Tomatoes. While it has not yet been officially Certified Fresh on the platform, it seems highly likely to earn that honor as more reviews are added, even though that could also cause its score to fluctuate somewhat. Because it is a buzzy awards season release, it will eventually be available to screen in a variety of venues.

Last year was unforgettable when it came to the movies that were released. July alone will always be remembered for “Barbenheimer,” but that was just one chapter in 2023’s impressive list of highlights. 2024 instantly had the tough task of living up to the previous calendar year, but the world of movies hasn’t disappointed. While there have been some surprises at the box office, 2024 has featured some great quality films in theaters and on streaming.
Among 2024’s best of the best are a few franchise sequels, some fantastic original stories, and even a prequel that didn’t dominate the box office but deserves praise nonetheless. As we’ve learned time and time again, some of the best movies aren’t blockbusters. Whether they are streaming gems or indie titles that require digging deeper to find, it’s always worth considering movies of all sizes. Therefore, the team at Screen Rant...

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Nicole Kidman — perhaps the busiest actress in Hollywood right now — gave a brief update on one of her upcoming projects: the Prime Video series Scarpetta. The series is based on Patricia Cornwell's novels and features the title character, medical examiner Kay Scarpetta. Kidman is busy researching the role, stating, "I’m learning all about autopsies... I know where all the body parts are."
The series, produced by Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis, was first announced in February 2023. Curtis will co-star as Scarpetta's sister Dorothy, a recurring and integral character from the novels. The show will also star Oscar-winner Ariana DeBose (West Side Story), Bobby Cannavale, his son Jake Cannavale (Nurse Jackie), Simon Baker, and Rosy McEwan (Apartment 7A).

As a Hollywood veteran with a star-studded resume, Nicole Kidman is no stranger to the ups and downs of life in the entertainment industry but she also doesn't hesitate to criticize that industry when necessary. In a recent interview, the award-winning actress observed a drastic decrease in the number of new television shows and films, saying that it's harder now than ever to greenlight projects that aren't guaranteed to be immediate crowd-pleasers - such as a certain Marvel Jesus.
Speaking to Vanity Fair about her upcoming erotic drama Babygirl, Kidman reflected on the difficulty of securing new roles in an era where fewer and fewer directors seem willing to take creative risks. "Everything's hard now," she stated. "Actually everything. I mean, maybe not Deadpool, but theres nothing thats, 'Oh my gosh. Yep. This is it. Greenlight, lets go.' In an interview with Vanity Fair, Nicole Kidman was asked if there were any directors she'd love to work with that she hadn't worked with already. The actress listed several names, including Paul Thomas Anderson, Spike Jonze, and Kathryn Bigelow, but one particular name mentioned by Kidman may have come with a little bit of shade.
Ive always said I want to work with [Martin] Scorsese, if he does a film with women.
This is likely in reference to Scorsese's penchant for making films mostly about (and even arguably for) men, a criticism of his work that made headlines in 2019 when the director stated he didn't "have time anymore" to write for women.
Scorsese and his fans point to several titles in the filmmaker's large body of work that feature strong roles for women, namely Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, one of only a few titles to feature a woman as the protagonist.

Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson steam up the screen in Babygirl, the new film from writer-director Halina Reijn. As part of preparation for the film, the Bodies Bodies Bodies director sent the two actors films that exemplify the best of Babygirl's shared genre. According to Entertainment Weekly, Rejin recommended 2001's The Piano Teacher, 1992's Damage, and 1988's Dangerous Liaisons to put the actors in the right headspace for production. Although Rejin set out to subvert erotic thriller expectations, it was important for the actors and filmmaker to intimately know the thing they're supposed to be subverting. Hence, Halina Reijn turned to the classics.
According to Dickinson, the director wasn't "interested" in showing straight-forward sex scenes, instead opting for "vulnerability" and "finding truth."
"Halina was never interested in showing explicit sex scenes. Showing sex on film can often be so corny and unnecessarily voyeuristic. It's more interesting to show the awkwardness of sex,...

The new erotic thriller from A24 is set to melt a significant amount of snow when it debuts on Christmas day, but before Babygirl opens nationwide, star Nicole Kidman is letting everyone know how it felt to shoot the films risqu scenes, and why she wanted to explore themes of Bdsm in the first place. Directed by Halina Reijn, Kidman stars as Romy, a high-ranking CEO who begins a whirlwind affair with her much younger intern, portrayed by The Iron Claws Harris Dickinson. Think a gender-swapped 50 Shades of Grey with the roles reversed.
Speaking with People at the London West Hollywood in Los Angeles during a Q&a, Kidman opened up about the steamy new thriller, and what it was like to delve deep into the films sexual kinks. She said its all part and parcel with being an actor, which comes with a certain desire to explore the human condition.

We often talk about how hard it is to forge new friendships as we get older. Our routines lock us into specific spaces where meeting new people and trying new things is hard. With that being said, have you ever met someone who's a little too eager to be friends, or maybe even uncomfortably overzealous? You hit it off, hang out, and as you get to know them, alarm bells go off. Andrew DeYoungs new film Friendship takes this premise, turns it up to the highest degree, and utilizes cringe connoisseur Tim Robinson to take it as far as possible.
The film banks on several hilarious scenarios that play much like a full-length sketch from Robinson's acclaimed Netflix show, I Think You Should Leave, but there are also some intelligent epiphanies sprinkled throughout Friendship. In between, DeYoung lets his main character run amok and burn everything down.

Hack the planet! Oh, wait, that’s a different movie about hackers. Never mind. After scaring the daylights out of horror fans in A24‘s Talk to Me – which recently won the Best Horror category at the 22nd Golden Schmoe Awards – Sophie Wilde is lining up her next project with New Regency’s adaptation of the UbiSoft video game Watch Dogs. Netflix has released the first trailer for their upcoming Netflix Original Movie entitled Wheelman, starring Frank Grillo. I have seen the film more times than I care to admit and more times than any other Statham-starring feature. Which means, honestly, that excitement level for this sequel, Mechanic: Resurrection, was at an all time high.

Jonathan Coulton may not be the original artist behind "Baby Got Back," but he does have a rather distinctive version of the song out there. And now it looks like "Glee" may have used that version without permission.
Is this stealing? Is it legal but morally reprehensible? Or is "Glee" entirely in the right? A look at the case may help you decide.
The music/Internet fiasco began on Friday (Jan. 18) when Coulton -- an independent singer with a devoted Twitter following (almost 100,000 of them as of this writing) -- tweeted that a "Glee" recording sounded a whole lot like his own cover of the Sir Mix-a-Lot anthem:
"Hey look, @GleeonFOX ripped off my cover of Baby Got Back... Never even contacted me. Classy."
Twitter furor rose yet again when Coulton posted a follow-up to his first tweet:
"After listening, I think that @GLEEonFOX may have even used parts of my recording.

Martin McDonagh's latest comedy, "Seven Psychopaths," tells the story of an aspiring screenwriter who unwittingly entangles himself in the criminal underworld of Los Angeles as his bizarre friends accidentally kidnap an unpredictable gangster's cherished Shih Tzu. With a star studded cast (Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell, Christopher Walken, Woody Harrelson, Tom Waits) and an engaging story, "Seven Psychopaths" is sure to be another home-run for the writer/director of 2008's "In Bruges."
In honor of McDonagh's new film, we've taken the liberty of compiling our own list of psychopaths. Comic book psychopaths, of course! These deranged madmen range everywhere from misjudged anti-hero to dangerous serial killer, but one thing that they all have in common is the fact that they are completely out of their minds.

To no great surprise, fans of ABC's Life on Mars are quite upset that the network has decided to kill the series after only 17 episodes. Granted, the early ratings weren't that great but the network didn't help matters either. Will viewers be given closure or will they and Sam Tyler be left stranded forever in the 1970s?
Life on Mars, a remake of the popular UK series, revolves around a modern-day detective (Jason O'Mara) who is somehow transported back to 1973. He manages to acclimate himself but is stymied as to the how and why of his situation. The series also features Michael Imperioli, Gretchen Mol, Harvey Keitel, Jonathan Murphy, Dominick Mancino, John Cenatiempo, Chris Miskiewicz, Tom Stratford, Matthew Cowles, and Tanya Fischer.
The drama debuted on October 9, 2008 to a solid 11.33 million viewers and a 3.8/10 rating/share in the 18-49 demographic. Unfortunately, those numbers didn't last and Mars fell significantly in its second week,...

To no great surprise, ABC has opted not to order a second season of their Wednesday night drama, Life on Mars. The show was one of the most anticipated of the season. So, what happened? Will viewers be left hanging or will the show's mysteries be resolved?
A remake of a UK show of the same name, Life on Mars follows Sam Tyler (Jason O'Mara) , a modern-day NYPD detective who's investigating the abduction of his girlfriend (Lisa Bonet) by a serial killer. After being hit by a speeding car, Tyler wakes up in 1973. While trying to figure out what's happened to him, he ends up becoming part of his precinct in the past. Is he in a coma, insane, or a true time traveler? Based on a UK show of the same name, Life on Mars was one of ABC's most anticipated new TV series of Fall 2008. It got off to a great start in the ratings but how do things stand now? Will Lost help or hurt?
Life on Mars follows the life of modern-day NYPD detective Sam Tyler (Jason O'Mara) after he's been hit by a car. Things are very different than what he remembers and he finally realizes he's somehow been transported to 1973. Other castmembers include Jonathan Murphy, Dominick Mancino, Tom Stratford, Michael Imperioli, Gretchen Mol, Harvey Keitel, Chris Miskiewicz, John Cenatiempo, and Lisa Bonet.
