Podtalk: Writer/Producer Alice Austen on ‘Give Me Liberty,’ in Chicago through Sept. 26, 2019
Chicago – Moving from writing plays for the stage to writing for film may seem like a natural transition. But at the roots in each of these separate storytelling forms there are different ways of formulating the connection between dialogue and visuals. Alice Austen made this transition when she wrote – with director Kirill Mikhanovsky – the story and screenplay for “Give Me Liberty.”

Drive, He Said: Inside the Med Van in ‘Give Me Liberty’

“Give Me Liberty” involves medical transport driver Vic (Chris Galust), who is perpetually late for his mostly handicapped clients, but it’s not his fault. Roads are closed for a protest, and no one else can shuttle his Russian grandfather and émigré friends to a funeral. The new route uproots his scheduled clients, particularly Tracy (Lauren “Lolo” Spencer in a breakout performance), a vibrant young woman with Als. As the day goes from hectic to off-the-rails,...

‘Duck Commander Musical’ Fast-Flops In Las Vegas
After a run of about 15 minutes, Duck Commander Musical has announced a quick closing at the Rio in Las Vegas. Duck Dynasty (2012)
'Duck Dynasty' Musical Is Officially Heading to Vegas (and You Can Buy Tickets Now)
Duck Dynasty (2012)
Duck Dynasty: The Musical is officially theater-bound! Considering Broadway is pretty gay -- or at least, gay-friendly -- and considering what duck patriarch Phil Robertson has said in the past about homosexuality leading to bestiality, it may seem like an odd fit.

Until you find out it’s actually a Vegas musical. That makes more sense.

The Duck Commander Musical is a “modern-day Beverly Hillbillies story” about a “backwoods family” that strikes it rich. Don’t expect a satire or tell-all either, the Roberston family had script and casting approval.

Watch: Which Duck Dynasty star wants to be on Dancing With the Stars?!

Producer Michael David, whose credits include Jersey Boys, told The New York Times, “The show will end up challenging the views and assumptions of people across the political spectrum, more than most theater does.”

It’s being staged by Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun (Newsies) and is based on Willie and Korie Robertson’s 2012 book...

Duck Dynasty (2012)
Next Up for the Duck Dynasty Clan: Their Own Las Vegas Show
Duck Dynasty (2012)
Here's something to quack up about: Duck Dynasty could become a big Las Vegas show. The Robertson Family, the stars of A&E's hit series Duck Dynasty, are in talks to create a musical for the Rio Hotel and Casino, People confirms. The plan is to stage a 90-minute show called The Duck Commander Family Musical, which would be based on the book, The Duck Commander Family: How Faith, Family and Ducks Built a Dynasty, by Willie and Korie Robertson. The hope is to raise the curtain on the semi-autobiographical show in February. There will be lyrics and tunes from Robert Morris,...

Duck Dynasty (2012)
'Duck Dynasty' is getting a stage musical
Duck Dynasty (2012)
Because, clearly, what the world needed was more Duck Dynasty and what Duck Dynasty needed was more show-stopping musical numbers, a Duck Dynasty musical is in the works. The New York Times reports that a 90-minute show titled The Duck Commander Family Musical with actors in the roles of the Robertson family has plans to open in Las Vegas. Though it sounds like a cross between Waiting for Guffman's Red, White and Blaine and, as Frank Rich pointed out on Twitter, something out of a Mel Brooks movie, the show actually has some Broadway pedigree, with Jersey Boys producer Michael David developing it.
