  • Trivia
Pioneer French actor/director. Founded the Film d'Art company in 1908, in association with Charles Le Bargy. The studio signed writers and actors from the Comedie Francaise and filmed adaptations of novels and plays. attempting to make cinema 'more respectable' vis-a-vis the stage. However, their output was stagy rather than cinematic and the venture folded in 1913, upon which Calmettes retired as a film maker.
