A polarizing MonsterVerse installment has been one of the most-watched movies on Netflix since Christmas Day. Earlier this year, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire debuted to mixed critical reviews but was financially successful, becoming the highest-grossing MonsterVerse film to date.

Interesting news is being reported on the Godzilla front today. After hearing this weekend that Godzilla would begin production in March, it is now being reported that Frank Darabont has been hired to rewrite the script.

Frank Darabont’s name should be no stranger to horror fans, having spearheaded The Walking Dead TV series for the first season and half of season two. His last feature work was on The Mist back on 2007, and he’s been involved in genre projects for most of his professional career.

Unfortunately, there are no details on what changes Darabont was hired to make, but Legendary Pictures tapping into some of what made The Walking Dead great is not a bad route to go, considering they want this to be a more realistic take on Godzilla. Last time we saw Godzilla in a Hollywood movie was Roland Emmerich's oversized-but-underdeveloped 1998 effort, which triggered a whole series of Japanese productions aiming to offer a more accurate representation.

Now, Tinseltown is having another go at getting it right, with award-winning British filmmaker Gareth Edwards at the helm and a release date of May 16, 2014, marked on the calendar.

Variety recently reported that Legendary Pictures had brought in Iron Man 3 scribe Drew Pearce to polish the screenplay before casting gets under way.

David Callahan penned the original draft, with David Goyer and Max Borenstein also contributing to the script. Legendary has asked for Pearce to come in because it it wants to 'age up' the characters so they fit the actors they would like to target.

The studio showed off some epic test footage at Comic-Con this year that got fans amped up to see more! It was pretty incredible, and it would be great if they released it online soon so everyone could see it! I'm looking forward to seeing more of Edwards' vision for this classic movie monster.

Usually when you hear that a movie is being rewritten it is generally a sign of bad things to come. With McG‘s latest, This Means War taking fifth place in its opening weekend, the world breathlessly awaits the next batch of cinematic glop from everyone’s favorite hack. Written by Safe House scribe David Guggenheim, Puzzle Palace is “tonally similar to Die Hard,” according to McG, and he had this to say:

A lot of people think of birdwatching – or "birding", as we usually refer to it – as geeky. I prefer to think of it as an interesting obsession. It can certainly take over your life, as it does for the three main characters in this film: they devote an entire year of their lives – a "big year" – to travelling the length and breadth of North America, competing to spot the greatest number of bird species.

I've read the book on which the film is based: The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession by Mark Obmascik. It's very well-written, with great characterisation; you especially feel for Brad Harris, the character played in the film by Jack Black, who's a working-class guy with less money than the others to spend pursuing his passion.
