The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills seems to like casting soap opera ladies.
Lisa Rinna and Eileen Davidson fit right in when they joined the series in Season 5.
As we jump into Season 14 of Rhobh, the casting team may have snapped another famous soap opera star.
Eva Larue is rumored to join the cast this season, as Crystal Kung Minkoff and Annemarie Wiley were fired following a lackluster Season 13.
Viewers will likely remember Eva from her role on All My Children as Dr. Maria Santos Grey. However, she is currently airing on ABC’s General Hospital as Natalia.
With Season 14 filming already underway, it will be interesting to see where Eva fits in and where she will align herself.

I love it when a Batman-centric project arrives animated and has a stylized design. Such is the case with Warner Bros. Animation’s family holiday movie Merry Little Batman, which takes the Caped Crusader and his son Damian Wayne and gives them an illustrative, Ron Searle-inspired coat of paint.
As if Prime Video hasn’t cornered the market enough regarding stellar superhero content, their acquisition of Merry Little Batman, along with a ton of other Batman-related projects, including the Bruce Timm/Matt Reeves/J.J. Abrams animated series Batman: Caped Crusader, from Warner Bros. Discovery, adds just a bit of power to the streamer’s greatness. One Zaslav’s trash is another studio’s treasure. The funniest part is that this is the best DC movie Warner Bros. didn’t even distribute this year. Ain’t that a killer joke?

Even though Sunday’s SAG Awards ceremony will be shortened to just one pre-taped hour on TNT and TBS, the special In Memoriam segment will still be a highlight. Since the 2020 event aired on January 19, it will be over 14 months until the one on April 4. That means even more actors, actresses and members of SAG/AFTRA will hopefully be honored than the 40 people in the tribute last year.
Chadwick Boseman died last August and is a four-time nominee for the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday. The two individual nominations are for his leading role in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and his supporting performance in “Da 5 Bloods.” Those two films also are nominated for the top ensemble category.
Oscar winners who have died in the past 14 months include Sean Connery, Olivia de Havilland, Cloris Leachman and Christopher Plummer. Academy Award nominees include Boseman, Kirk Douglas, Hal Holbrook, Ian Holm,...

The Emmys’ In Memoriam segment Sunday left out a number of actors we lost in 2020, but the Television Academy hasn’t entirely overlooked them. Nick Cordero, Chi Chi DeVayne, Kobe Bryant, Shelley Morrison, Honor Blackman, and soap actors Roscoe Born, John Callahan, Marj Dusay and John Karlen are among the many names included in a more comprehensive roster on the Academy’s website.
Some of the names, including Morrison, actress Kelly Preston and Saturday Night Live‘s music producer Hal Willner, were represented in a not-particularly easy-to-read memorial segment during the Creative Arts ceremonies last week (see it below) but didn’t make the shorter roster on the Emmys broadcast Sunday.

Many TV legends and contributors were included for the “In Memoriam” segment on Sunday’s Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony for ABC. But producers are always forced to omit some of the 100+ insiders who died since the last ceremony. Who was left out of the group that was honored?
With dozens of television veterans having died since last year’s mid-September ceremony, people certainly included were these six TV Academy Hall of Fame members:
Diahann Carroll
Leonard Goldberg (executive at 20th Century Fox and ABC; producer of “Charlie’s Angels” and more)
Jim Lehrer (anchor/reporter of “MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour)
Regis Philbin
Carl Reiner
Fred Silverman

Even though he wasn’t known for his TV work, blockbuster film actor Chadwick Boseman was featured in the final slot. NBA Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant was not mentioned, even though the event was being held in the Staples Center.

Join our newsletter to get more stories like this Amazon continues to battle in the streaming service industry, creating its own original content as Netflix has done for a few years. In February, the streaming service is set to release a new original movie entitled Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot. The movie, which is based on a true story, is about John Callahan, who has a life-changing accident, which causes him to have a battle with alcohol. The debate rages on over whether a Netflix movie is legitimate, bona fide cinema, as the streaming behemoth has somewhat reluctantly joined Amazon Studios in giving its award-hungry offerings at least a limited theatrical run. But good old-fashioned talent makes contrasting the streamers with their Old Hollywood rivals a moot point. And, along with star-studded casts and esteemed directors, many of this season’s Netflix and Amazon original films were soundtracked by prestige composers.
“Roma” had no original music, but Netflix scored a coup with “The Other Side of the Wind,” the belatedly released Orson Welles film that features a new score by three-time Oscar winner Michel Legrand. Meanwhile, Amazon nabbed not one but two Radiohead members for its original features this year: Jonny Greenwood for “You Were Never Really Here” and Thom Yorke for “Suspiria.”

Amazon Studios is a fairly new player in feature films having released its first title, “Chi-Raq,”in 2015. This year it is touting five films to Academy Awards voters, including the heartbreaking family drama “Beautiful Boy” starring Oscar nominees Steve Carell and Timothee Chalamet; the red-hot love story “Cold War” by Oscar winner Paweł Pawlikowski (“Ida”); and Luca Guadagnino‘s remake of the horror classic “Suspiria.” All three of these Oscar contenders have been sent to academy members in time to watch over Thanksgiving.

Gus Van Sant’s biopic Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot is a beautifully melancholic coy and frequently dark passage and resulting examination of addiction and pain in the short, but the remarkably artistic life of John Callahan. Callahan, played by the extraordinary talented Joaquin Pheonix, who injects such passion and character into a cold story. The energy and understanding of such a script and the character are what Pheonix excels in throughout his career. Nothing ever feels like a cash grab, nor fluke in his strongest most marvellous performances and his spectacular rendition in Van Sant’s film is nothing short of perfect.

In Don’t Worry He Won’t Get Far On Foot, Joaquin Phoenix is reunited once again with his To Die For director Gus Van Sant in this quirky, unconventional and heartfelt biopic about the life of controversial cartoonist John Callahan and his struggles with addiction and physical disability. Adapted from Callahan’s best selling memoir of the same name, the film is a return to form for Van Sant whose last film The Sea of Trees sadly proved to be a critical and box office misfire.
Set in the mid 70s and structured in a rather disjointed and non-linear fashion, Don’t Worry He Won’t Get Far On Foot offers a tender and painfully honest depiction of a life in tatters, and what it took to get it back on track. After a near-fatal car-crash lands him in a wheelchair for the rest of his days, John Callahan...

2018 has been a very prolific year for three-time Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix. He has already starred in two acclaimed films — as a gun-for-hire in Lynne Ramsay‘s “You Were Never Really Here” and Gus Van Sant‘s biopic about paralyzed cartoonist John Callahan, “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot.” And now Phoenix returns to the nation’s theaters in Jacques Audiard‘s Western, “The Sisters Brothers,” for which Audiard recently won the Best Director prize at this year’s Venice Film Festival.
Phoenix has been no stranger to awards circles. He has been nominated for three Academy Awards, five Golden Globe Awards (including a win for 2005’s “Walk the Line”) and four Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Phoenix looks to have a busy 2019 as well as he stars in the title role as DC Comics’ “Joker,” focusing on the iconic supervillain in a film directed by “The Hangover’s” Todd Phillips.

In its latest big-screen move, curated streaming service Mubi has landed U.K. theatrical rights to Gus Van Sant’s “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot.” The deal comes on the heels of Mubi’s acquisition of U.K. theatrical rights to Luca Guadagnino’s lavish “Suspiria” remake.
“Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot” stars Joaquin Phoenix as John Callahan, a heavy-drinking slacker who discovers a gift for drawing edgy, irreverent newspaper cartoons after a car accident leaves him paralyzed. The cast also includes Jonah Hill, Rooney Mara, and Jack Black.
The movie premiered at Sundance. “Joaquin Phoenix shines as quadriplegic cartoonist John Callahan in this uplifting biopic about an alcoholic’s bounce back from rock bottom,” Variety said in its review.
Mubi acquired “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot” from Amazon and will release the Amazon Studios film in Britain on Oct.

“Eighth Grade” is already scoring high marks.
The feature debut from writer-director Bo Burnham launched this weekend with $255,000. Its debut was especially noteworthy given the film opened in just four theaters, translating to a per-screen-average of $63,071. That was enough to top the record previously held by Fox Searchlight’s “Isle of Dogs.” Wes Anderson’s stop-motion animated film, which opened in March with a per-theater-average of $58,148.
Elsie Fisher stars in the coming-of-age film as a middle schooler navigating her last week of eighth grade. The movie, which holds a coveted 99% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, has been a critical favorite since it premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. A24 will continue rolling out “Eighth Grade” in coming weeks.

So far this summer, the indie box office has been defined by documentaries. But now scripted films are finally making their mark as A24’s “Eighth Grade” sets a new record for the best per screen average of 2018, while Annapurna’s “Sorry to Bother You” begins its wide run.
Selling out screenings at its four locations in Los Angeles and New York, “Eighth Grade” has gotten off to a huge start with $252,284, earning a per screen average (PSA) of just over $63,000. That beats out Fox Searchlight’s “Isle of Dogs” for the top PSA of the year, as the Wes Anderson stop-motion film earned a $60,000 average back in March.

Today is a rare day in Hollywood: We have two major stars, Dwayne Johnson and Joaquin Phoenix, releasing films in which they play disabled characters. In “Skyscraper,” Johnson’s alter ego undergoes a below-knee amputation following an opening-scene explosion; “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot” casts thrice Oscar-nominated Phoenix as John Callahan, the late artist who became quadraplegic in a car accident.
On-screen representation of disabilities is so infrequent it can seem like a fluke. According to the last U.S. Census, 19 percent of Americans have a disability, but a 2017 study from USC Annenberg’s Media, Diversity, & Social Change Initiative found that just 2.7 percent of all 2016 speaking roles included a discernible disability. So two in one week is progress, right?
Some disability rights advocates say: Nope. “We are over continually having non-disabled people trusted to tell our stories more than actual disabled actors,” said Rebecca Cokley,...
