The Cannes Film Festival and its iconic red carpet are officially open for business. And aside from the shadow of President Donald Trump looming large over this year’s festivities, the buzziest story to emerge so far this week has been the fest’s new red carpet dress code.
On the eve of this year’s opening ceremony, a Cannes rep confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the festival updated its charter to ban full nudity and “voluminous outfits,” especially those with a large train, that “hinder the flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater.” The fest spokesperson clarified that the dress code is not meant to regulate attire “per se,” but that it did get refreshed to reflect certain rules “that have long been in effect.”

Nicky Campbell has new management.
The viral fashion commentator has signed with The Jeffries, a boutique talent management and creative branding company with offices in New York and Los Angeles. Campbell will work closely with manager Avie Acosta in expanding his career across multiple platforms, creative opportunities and in-real-life gigs.
News of Campbell’s new management comes hot on the heels of him being called a “notoriously discerning and exacting TikToker” by fashion designer Bella Freud in an intimate podcast conversation with Cate Blanchett. And that’s precisely why Campbell’s climb has been so steep on TikTok and social media over the past year.
His concise, rarely cutting but always clear (and sometimes humorous) fashion commentary proved to be a hit on TikTok when he, on a whim and apparently hungover, decided to recap the red carpet from the 2024 Critics Choice Awards. “I was like, ‘What should I do today?...

Exclusive: The BBC News channel has scaled back its “visualized radio” experiment around six months after it was a centerpiece of the network’s relaunch.
The news channel has halved the airtime handed over to Nicky Campbell’s BBC Radio 5 Live show, meaning he now has an hour-long slot on weekday mornings.
The BBC invested in new technology to allow it to broadcast Campbell’s audience phone-in show on TV after merging its international and domestic news channels into a single network in April.
In August, the BBC reduced the 9Am show to an hour in length on a trial basis amid the FIFA Women’s World Cup. It has now made the change permanent.
An insider said it has allowed the news channel to devote more time to speeches during political party conference season. There is also a feeling that it has helped make the BBC News channel’s morning output more “rounded.

BBC presenter Jeremy Vine has slammed social media as a “massive fountain of sewage” after he was wrongly accused of being the star who allegedly paid a teenager for sex pictures.
Vine was one of at least four top male BBC presenters who were forced to distance themselves from wild and defamatory speculation circulating on social media on Saturday.
Vine was trending on Twitter at one point and had to make clear to his 788,000 followers that he was in no way linked to the explicit images storm.
Speaking on his eponymous Channel 5 show this morning, Vine said: “Over the weekend, a number of names were thrown in… I was shocked that my name [appeared] … This is what social media does. It’s just basically a massive fountain of sewage, and someone needs to put a cap on it.”

The BBC has suspended one of its staffers after reports surfaced that he had allegedly asked a teenager for sexually explicit photos.
The allegations were first reported in U.K. tabloid The Sun on Friday. The mother of the teenager claimed her child used the alleged 35,000 pounds (about $44,934) received from the staffer to fund an addiction to crack cocaine.
“All I want is for this man to stop paying my child for sexual pictures and stop him funding my child’s drug habit,” she told the publication, adding that the requests for photos began when her child was 17.
The staffer hasn’t been publicly named yet, but presenters Jeremy Vine, Rylan Clark and Gary Lineker took to their respective Twitter accounts to say it isn’t them. Nicky Campbell also tweeted that he reported an account that claimed he was the one who requested the photos.

The UK gameshow revival continues apace.
Having already put high-profile reboots of Big Brother, Jeopardy and Deal or No Deal back into production, ITV is now reviving iconic gameshow Wheel of Fortune, helmed by UK TV stalwart Graham Norton.
Sony-owned Whisper North, which is also producing Stephen Fry-hosted Jeopardy, will make an eight-part run including two celebrity specials.
Wheel of Fortune aired beween 1988 and 2001 on ITV, generating something of a cult following alongside the original U.S. version, which has aired non-stop for nearly 50 years. Yesterday, it was revealed that Ryan Seacrest will take over from Pat Sajak as host of the U.S. show’s 42nd season. The UK version was hosted by the likes of Nicky Campbell and Bradley Walsh during its initial run.

BBC News journalists are considering striking over the merger of the domestic and international news channels that will see 70 jobs axed.
The National Union of Journalists (Nuj), which represents hundreds of BBC staffers, said a consultative ballot is taking place over action in response to the plans, which will see a rolling news service created that will carry both UK and global news. At present, the two are separate.
A ballot for industrial action could take place at a later date, coming as journalists at UK newspaper publications including The Daily Mirror prepare to strike over pay.
Nuj General Secretary Michelle Stanistreet said: “The BBC News Channel plays a major role in covering local elections, by-elections, floods and droughts as well as covering breaking domestic and international incidents they happen. The BBC said the gender split among its top-earning talent is narrowing as top on-air male talent take pay cuts. The announcement Wednesday followed an outcry over salary figures last year that revealed a chasm between top on-air men and women at the British pubcaster.
The Beeb is aiming for a 50-50 split in the proportion of top earners by end-2020. It said Wednesday the gap now stands at 60-40 in favor of men, down from 75-25 two years ago. There were, however, still only two women among the top 20 on-air earners: TV presenter Claudia Winkleman, and radio broadcaster Vanessa Feltz.
The BBC revealed last week that it had closed the gender pay gap across the Corporation, which employs 20,000 people. The talent pay figures released Wednesday apply only to on-air staff whose salaries are funded by the BBC license fee and exceed £150,000. They do not take into account the high...

This week, British Prime Minister Theresa May received a letter from 31 of Britain’s biggest stars urging her to introduce a UK ban on animal-fur imports.
Fur farming has been illegal in the UK since 2000, but since then Britain has imported over £650 million worth of fur from countries such as China and Poland, where animals are typically bred in appalling conditions on fur farms.
The stars signed the open letter to show their support for the #FurFreeBritain campaign run by a group of prominent animal charities – Humane Society International UK, the Rspca, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Four Paws, Animal Aid, Brian May's Save Me Trust, Viva!, The Jane Goodall Institute UK, and Open Cages – and supported by social network Care2.

Yes, it’s annoying when the UK weather is rubbish, but is it really grounds to lodge a complaint with the BBC?
Imagine you’ve been wronged by a TV show. Some inaccuracy, or omission, or annoyance has caused the irksome weevil of discontent to crawl through your television and burrow underneath your skin. You can’t rid of it. After days of muttering under your breath and scribbling beards and fangs all over the Radio Times, it’s still there. Nothing will soothe you. You're left with only one choice.
It’s time to lodge a complaint.
If that complaint relates to anything other than Editorial Standards, it may be passed up to the BBC Trust’s Complaints and Appeals Board (Cab), the final arbiter on general grievances since 2011. And thanks to BBC transparency, such complaints are available, anonymously, to see online.
