15 Movies With Post-Credits Scenes That You Probably Missed
Image
In 2008, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) appeared in a post-credit sequence for "Iron Man" where he was startled to see a man dressed in black standing by a window in his home. "Who the hell are you?" Stark asks, prompting the man to step from the shadows and reveal himself: "Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D.," played by none other than Samuel L. Jackson.

This 30-second scene -- placed after the credits at the behest of director Edgar Wright -- shifted the pop culture landscape and all but ensured audiences would start sitting through lengthy end titles just to catch a few seconds teasing the next big adventure. The trend continues to this day, and it's almost disappointing when a movie, especially a big blockbuster, doesn't feature something at the very end.

So, well done, Marvel, for kick-starting the post-credit scene trend.

Except... they didn't.

Could Alec's dad's words have affected his decision about his scars in The Irrational?
Image
Could Alec's talk with his dad have changed his mind about getting his scars removed on The Irrational? It could be a factor!

Caution: This article contains Spoilers for The Irrational Season 2 Episode 11

As fans of The Irrational know, Alec Mercer (Jesse L. Martin) carries the facial and body scars left from a church bombing when he was a teenager. Season 1 revolved around the mystery of Alec trying to find out who was responsible for the bombing, which he solved at the end of the season.

Season 2 has shown Alec moving on as solving that mystery. He was also told that a new cutting-edge procedure might erase his scars, and he was tempted by it. Alec decided to keep the scars as reminders of how he's grown yet the temptation was clear.

In Episode 11, a case of a "ghost ship" brought Alec back to his hometown and a reunion with his father,...

‘The Irrational’: Ron Canada Talks ‘Emotionally Difficult’ Alec and Father Scene, Potential Return
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Irrational Season 2 Episode 11 “Ghost Ship.”] Thanks to a case, Alec (Jesse L. Martin) and his dad Eli (Ron Canada) are able to get very honest with one another — and it leaves their relationship in a much better place by the end of the latest episode of The Irrational. When Alec heads to his hometown to help with a case, he calls his father out on not visiting him in the hospital after the bombing that left him scarred. Though Eli doesn’t defend himself at first, at the end, he reveals why he wasn’t there: He’d relapsed. He’d been five years sober the day he got that call, and the thought of his son suffering broke him. Cops pulled him out of the gutter, took him to detox, and he never drank again. He never told anyone until now. Then, Alec asks his father if he...

He’s a gifted artist and a professional,” Canada tells TV Insider. “Jesse and I have an episode of Law & Order in common, ‘Bottomless,’ and it’s found some favor among Law & Order fans. Star Trek's Best Weapon To Beat Klingons Isn't What You Think
Image
Used on more than a few occasions over the years, Star Trek's best weapon to beat Klingons probably isn't what you think it is. Klingons have been iconic Starfleet enemies since Star Trek: The Original Series season 1, episode 26, "Errand of Mercy", which saw Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) defend the Organians from Klingon Commander Kor (John Colicos). Unlike Starfleet phasers, Klingon disruptors have no stun setting, proving their thirst for blood. Time and again, Kirk's Klingon enemies match the USS Enterprise captain's battle strategy, starship armaments, and taste for revengebest served cold, of course.

Klingons are redefined by Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, with an emphasis on rituals and honor that changes the Klingons' favored weapons. Instead of carrying disruptors like Tos Klingons, 24th-century Klingon combat is defined by bladed weapons, like the two-handed bat'leth, the smaller mek'leth, and the d'k tagh dagger.

The Irrational Season 2: Release Date, Cast, Story & Everything We Know
Image
Quick Links The Irrational Season 2 Latest News The Irrational Season 2 Release Date The Irrational Season 2 Cast The Irrational Season 2 Story Details The Irrational Season 2: Further News & Info

NBC's The Irrational filled a crucial spot in the network's strike-affected fall slate in 2023, and now the unorthodox procedural has scored a season 2 renewal. The series is loosely based on the best-selling nonfiction book Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely, and concerns Alec Mercer (Jesse L. Martin), a behavioral psychologist who assists the police in various high-profile cases using his knowledge of the human mind. Though an expert in his field, Mercer finds he is no match for a domestic terrorist who trounces all of his ingenious theories.

While the critical reaction to season 1 was lackluster (via The Hollywood Reporter), the clever and original premise kept the audience engaged. This was due largely to the dearth of content in the 2023 fall season...

The Irrational Season 2 Update Confirms Debut Of Another Mercer Family Member In New Episodes
Image
A new update for The Irrational season 2 confirms the debut of another Mercer family member in the crime drama's upcoming episodes. The cast of The Irrational consists of multiple members of Alecs (Lesse L. Martin) family. This includes his younger sister Kylie (Travina Springer), as well as his FBI agent ex-wife Marisa Clark (Maahra Hill). These family dynamics often come into play when Alec assists law enforcement with some of their cases, using his knowledge in behavioral psychology to deduce specific details about a case.

Now, TVLine has confirmed that Ron Canada will be joining the cast of The Irrational season 2 as Alec and Kylie's father. His debut episode is currently expected to air on February 4, 2025. However, season 2 of the crime drama begins on Tuesday, October 8, meaning it will be quite some time into the season before he gets introduced. Even so, his inclusion will broaden the Mercer family and...

'The Irrational' Adds a New Member to the Mercer Family for Season 2
Image
The Mercer family will expand in the upcoming The Irrational Season 2. TV Line reports that Ron Canada has joined the cast of Jesse L. Martin's series. He will play Eli Mercer, Alec, and Kylie's father, about whom much is unknown. Save for one reference in Season 1, Eli is a stranger to the viewer, but his presence will offer an opportunity to tell more stories and expand the Mercer family relationships. He will undoubtedly influence the dynamics between Kylie and Alec, given that when Alec talked to Kylie about seeking shelter with their dad during a risky investigation, Kylie turned the offer down. This can, however, be partially attributed to her affection for her elder brother. The tentatative airdate for Canada's episode is on February 4.

Why Renee Elise Goldsberry loves that perfect twist to Wickie’s backstory on ‘Girls5eva’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
Image
For two seasons, “Girls5eva” fans got little pieces here and there about the upbringing of resident ridiculous diva Wickie Roy née Lesley Wiggens (Renée Elise Goldsberry). But in Season 3, they were fed a whole meal. “It’s every actor’s dream to have a backstory,” Goldsberry tells Gold Derby (watch the exclusive video interview above). “When they’re casting your parents or your love interest, it feels like it’s a good investment in a character. And this one felt so perfect. Because she has a documentary. She’s trying to make a documentary and it felt like at some point, whether it was the real backstory or whether it was some dramatic over-telling of her life, it was going to be worth it. And we got both.”

In the third episode of the season, the group stays with Wickie’s parents Dana (Ron Canada) and Carmen Wiggens (Adriane Lenox) in Clarksville,...

Warning: Spoilers For Star Trek: Picard Season 3The loss of the USS Enterprise-e while under the command of Captain Worf (Michael Dorn) confirms a warning from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Captain Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks). Prior to his promotion to Captain of the USS Enterprise-e, Worf served under two of Starfleet's greatest Captains, Benjamin Sisko and Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). The Empty Man (2020)
The Empty Man Review: Carefully-Crafted Horror That Runs Off the Rails
The Empty Man (2020)
As an optimist that believes theatrical exhibition will survive, I look forward to the day when David Prior’s The Empty Man is introduced by a genre geek at an upcoming cult screening, perhaps Weird Wednesdays at the Alamo Drafthouse. The Empty Man is a curious creation, arriving as a B-movie compromise from Disney for beleaguered theaters while the studio ships its A-level movies like Pixar’s Soul to Disney+. This picture, with a 137-minute running time, was seemingly plucked from the limbo of the pre-Disney Fox vault, and although Disney has changed the name of the studio in February, they didn’t even spare the expense to swap out the 20th Century Fox logo and presenting credit on the Dcp sent to theaters.

Putting aside the business of distribution and exhibition, as well as The Empty Man’s unique time and place in cinematic history, for much of the...

The Empty Man Trailer Teases Horror Film Adapting Cullen Bunn Comic
The Empty Man (2020)
The Empty Man, a supernatural horror film, has become a surprise straggler in a shrunken pandemic-era lineup of films still actually headed to theaters… and it’s coming sooner rather than later, as evidenced by 20th Century Studios’ release of the trailer.

James Badge Dale headlines the horror flick, which adapts The Empty Man comic book series from Boom! Studios created by esteemed writer Cullen Bunn with art by Vanesa R. Del Rey. The film also serves as the feature directorial debut of David Prior, who worked off an adaptation screenplay he wrote, bringing nearly two decades’ worth of experience filming shorts and documentaries, notably shorts connected to director David Fincher’s 2011 version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Familiar summoned supernatural urban legend creature concepts from genre offerings such as the remake-set Candyman and The Slender Man will obviously come to mind once the trailer for The Empty Man establishes its premise.

‘The Empty Man’ Will Find You in Trailer for James Badge Dale Horror Film (Video)
Veronica Ricci in Bloody Mary (2011)
Move over Bloody Mary and Candyman.

Disney just dropped the trailer for “The Empty Man” — a mystical, horrifying entity that is summoned if you find an empty bottle on a bridge, blow into it and think of him. On the first night, you hear him. On the second night, you see him.

“And on the third night,” a teen asks his creepy young friend who wishes to summon him. “Well on the third night he finds you.”

That’s the setup for “The Empty Man,” a horror film based on the Boom! Studios graphic novels that opens this month. James Badge Dale plays a retired cop who investigates a group of teens in a Midwestern town who try to summon The Empty Man, only for locals to mysteriously disappear and put other peoples’ lives in danger.

David Prior directs the film based on a screenplay he wrote based on Cullen Bunn’s graphic novel.

Tucker Albrizzi & Danny Trejo in Coming-of-Age Comedy 'Bully' Trailer
"It gets easier... But it ain't ever gunna be easy." An official trailer has arrived online for an indie coming-of-age comedy titled Bully, the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Santino Campanelli. This premiered at the Dances With Films Festival last year, but hasn't played anywhere else yet - and it's pretty clear why as there's not much here. Bully is about a heavy-set high school kid named Jimmy who is constantly tormented by the resident school bully and his cronies. But after he meets a boxer, he starts training and learns how to fight back. Truly the best way to fight bullies is to literally fight them! Right?! Starring Tucker Albrizzi as Jimmy, along with Danny Trejo, Ron Canada, Vincent Pastore, Jack Difalco, Elanna White, and Jay Lee. Despite the good intentions, it looks pretty bad and impressively derivative. Check it out anyway. Here's the full-length trailer (+ official poster) for Santino Campanelli's Bully,...

It’s (not) the End of the World in the new trailer Robert Redford’s afterlife-thriller The Discovery
Author: Jon Lyus

Charlie McDowell returned to Sundance this year to debut his latest mind-bending exploration of the human condition. Three years ago his wondrous study of the complexities of a couple’s relationships, The One I Love, gave audiences a chance to see what the writer/director was all about. This year his latest film, The Discovery, played to captivated audiences at the festival.

As part of their Park City plunder Netflix snapped up the rights to McDowell’s latest, and we should be seeing it hit our small screens in a month’s time. Something of a spiritual sequel to Zal Batmanglij’s The Oa, the set up is proper Black Mirror stuff. A scientist proves the existence of an afterlife, and we join the story one year after the revelation. Suicide rates are rocketing, the nature of existence challenged and our tight hold on life loosened to disconcerting degree.

Summer Indie Film Preview
Dennis Haskins
Yes, we're excited to see "Iron Man 2," "Inception" and God help us, "Predators." But what we're really looking forward to spending a few hours in the company of an undertaking Bill Murray ("Get Low"), an Italian-speaking Tilda Swinton ("I Am Love") and a toga-wearing Rachel Weisz ("Agora") in the comfort of air-conditioned theater over the next three months. (Either that or we'll be enjoying them from the comfort of home online, on demand or on DVD.)

There are no less than 114 independently produced movies arriving in theaters this summer to compete with the big studio blockbusters and we've compiled this helpful guide that covers all of them. Yet realizing that the latest arthouse and foreign fare is subject to changing dates, particularly if you don't live in Los Angeles or New York, we've also included links to follow the films on Twitter, Facebook and release schedules where available, so...
