There are lots of reasons HBO Max’s And Just Like That… can feel disorienting to watch. Most obviously, there’s the fact that it’s a sequel to Sex and the City, but it’s missing Samantha (Kim Cattrall), arguably its most fabulous practitioner of sex in the city. There’s the fact that the ladies we got to know when they were cutting a swath through Manhattan in their 40s look different, but maybe not as different as we would expect them to nearly 20 years after the Sex and the City series finale.

Whenever a new season of And Just Like That premieres on HBO Max, the popular joke on social media is that it's the "worst" show on television. And Just Like That… has honored both its protagonists and the fans who’d grown into middle age with them by portraying its leads as busy, vital and (most importantly) horny. WeAreMovieGeeks.com attended the TCM Film Festival in Hollywood over the weekend and as usual, it did not disappoint! The theme of this year’s festival was Grand Illusions: Fantastic Worlds On Film and it was chock full of all the sci-fi, fantasy, and film-noir selections anyone could ask for!

The TCM Classic Film Festival opened April 24th with a 45th Anniversary screening of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back at the Tcl Chinese Theater followed by a conversation with filmmaker George Lucas.

Here’s a wrap-up of what we saw over the weekend.

Superman The Movie (1978)

First up was Superman the Movie, from 1978. Starring Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman and Margot Kidder, this is long considered the penultimate Superman movie. Warner Bros. Discovery has announced the movies, TV shows, and live sports that will be available on the Max streaming service in May. The Max May 2025 lineup includes the drama series Duster, the film Mountainhead, and the two-part documentary Pee-wee as Himself.

The third season of And Just Like That is here, and fans of the Sex and the City sequel series are excited to delve back into the world of fashion, fun, friendships, romance, drama, and more. The Sarah Jessica Parker starrer was introduced as a revival and a continuation of the iconic show in 2021.

The comedy-drama series definitely revived the fandom as supporters were excited to witness their beloved characters again and what their lives were like years after Sex and the City wrapped up in 2004. Max has officially declared this a Sex and the City summer with the announcement of the And Just Like That season 3 release date, which comes along with the exciting trailer. We'll be reunited with Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and the whole gang on Thursday, May 29 only on Max. That's very, very soon!

According to Max, And Just Like That season 3 contains 12 episodes, the revival series' largest episode count yet, and releases new episodes weekly on Thursdays at 9 pm. Et/6 p.m. Pt. Max didn't reveal any weeks with a double episode release, but the streamer did reveal that the season (not series!) finale will be released on Thursday, Aug. 14.

And Just Like That … is teeing up a third season after getting the renewal from Max in August, and Leading Ladies Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) each have their own love lives ahead of them to explore.

Carrie has another shot with Aidan Shaw (John Corbett) following Season 2. Miranda will continue to explore her sexuality, without Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez), and Charlotte is looking to expand beyond the bounds of motherhood.

The core four group of women featured in Daren Starr’s original series Sex and the City all made appearances in Season 2 with one notable cameo at the very end.

Carrie and friends will return to Max for season three on May 29 for a 12-episode season, which will run weekly through Aug. 14. The weekly rollout, though, means the comedy won't be eligible until next year's Emmy Awards.

Per the official Television Academy rules, at least six episodes of a given series must air by May 31 to be eligible. While the original series Sex and the City earned 54 Emmy nominations and won 7, the new iteration hasn't resonated in the same way with awards voters.

Max has dropped the trailer and release date for the Sex and the City sequel series that follows Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and their friends as they navigate family, love and friendship 20-plus years after the original series concluded.

And Just Like That season three debuts Thursday, May 29, at 6 p.m. Pt. The 12-episode season releases weekly, concluding with the season finale on Aug. 14.

When last we saw Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), she and her longtime love, who wasn’t Mr. Big, had a major discussion about the future of their relationship. Aidan is now divorced and raising his three sons in Virginia, where his ex-wife lives and shares in the responsibilities. During one of Aidan’s quick trips to New York to be with Carrie, his underage son Wyatt took his dad’s truck without permission and went on a joyride while under the influence of alcohol and mushrooms.

Aidan rushed back to Virginia to be by his injured child and realized he had neglected the boys while traveling back and forth to the Big Apple.

When the fourth season of Hacks premieres this week, newly minted late-night talk show host Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) is going to run into two real-life TV superstars. The beloved “Star Wars” sequel “The Empire Strikes Back” is set to open this year’s TCM Classic Film Festival on April 24, with director George Lucas presenting the film for its 45th anniversary.

“’The Empire Strikes Back’ is like ‘The Godfather Part II.’ Yes, technically, they’re sequels, the second movie in a series. But they are so much more,” TCM’s primetime anchor Ben Mankiewicz said in a statement. “The first ‘Star Wars’ picture in 1977 ignited a new era in Hollywood and turned a generation of young people into passionate movie fans for life. Then, somehow, three years later, along comes ‘Empire,’ which might even be better. It’s a stunning accomplishment and surely stands one of the great achievements in the history of film.”
