Married petite actress Mary Akin when she was just 17 and he was 38. He was already married once - in 1905 but the records of that union are lost - and divorced. Carewe and Akin had two children during their first marriage, daughter Sally Ann (b. 1925) and son William (b. 1927). A third child with Mary, Carol Lee (b. 1932), happened during their second marriage.
