A lot of wild, thrilling, and wacky things have happened on Days of Our Lives over the years. Dr. Rolf resurrected half the town with his mysterious injections. Salem was once struck by a meteor, leading to the creation of magical amulets and post-apocalyptic mayhem. And Stefano “died” at least a dozen times, including by quicksand, electrocution, and a brain tumor, only to return again and again, among many other crazy storylines. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday announced the names of those set to receive a star on the streets of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street as part of the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“The Young and the Restless” star Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman), Sarah Michelle Gellar and Demi Moore (“General Hospital”) were among the names unveiled as part of the class of 2026, a list comprising of 35 individuals overall in the categories of recordings, motion pictures, television, live theater/live performance and sports entertainment.

Scott and Gellar are recognized for their television work, while Moore is recognized for her work in motion pictures.

Shepard died Jan. 17 at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank of pneumonia brought on by respiratory failure, her son, Hollywood prop master, Brandon Boyle, told The Hollywood Reporter. “She was a good one and will be dearly missed,” he said.

Susan Lucci debuted the character of Erica Kane on the 10th episode of “All My Children” in 1970. Her fierce portrayal of the ambitious heroine soon made her the star of the serial, and she received her first Daytime Emmy nomination for Best Actress in 1978, which she lost to Laurie Heineman from “Another World.

In the 1950s daytime programming became extremely popular, with game shows and soap operas becoming a staple in American households. Although the Emmy Awards had been established in 1949, the categories were limited for the first few years, and performers from all genres, and from both daytime and nighttime programs, were lumped together in one or two acting categories, with daytime performers usually left out.

In 1962 Mary Stuart became the only soap opera actress nominated for a Primetime Emmy, for her role as Joanne Gardner on “Search for Tomorrow.” In 1968 a category for Best Achievement in Daytime Programming was attempted, but judges decided that no one was deserving. Outraged pioneers of the genre, such as writer Agnes Nixon and “General Hospital” star John Beradino, lobbied for recognition of daytime television. Los Angeles, Feb 26: Writer F Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 classic novel The Great Gatsby is set to be made into an animated feature film.

The adaptation will be helmed by William Joyce, Oscar winner in 2012 in the Best Short Film (Animated) category for his film, The Fantastic Flying Books Of Mr. Morris Lessmore. Writer Brian Selznick is also associated with The Great Gatsby project. An official announcement on the cast is yet to be made.

Joyce said, "Gatsby continues to cast a powerful spell over readers unlike any other book in American letters. Much of the power of Gatsby comes from the enchantment of Fitzgerald's prose. He created a vivid dreamscape that, to some degree, has eluded filmmakers since the silent era."

He added, "The previous film versions were constrained by live action, but innovative animation could finally realize the elusive quality of the novel."

All right, who thought killing Laura off was a good idea?

A year ago, Bill Horton died off-screen for no reason other than it gave the writers a flimsy exit story for JJ that didn't respect his character at all.

And now, Laura's joined her husband in the great beyond as part of an equally ridiculous storyline.

Laura was not one of my favorite characters, and she certainly did herself no favors this time around.

But she is a legacy character and one of the last links to Alice and Tom. Remember them, writers? The heads of the family that Days of Our Lives revolved around from 1965 until MacDonald Carey died in 1994?

And she died in a particularly unoriginal way for no reason other than that it will likely cause a conflict between Jack and Jennifer when the truth comes out about what happened to her.

Once again, Days of Our Lives...

Bah humbug.

Days of Our LIves tried to give us a great Christmas experience by having Salem celebrate it all week long.

But thanks to a Covid-related scheduling snafu, Christmas ended a day early, plus there were a few Grinches roaming around Salem ruining what was left of the holiday.

The best part of any Days of Our Lives Christmas is the Horton tree trimming. Traditionally, someone gets an ornament to welcome them to the family, there's a beautiful Christmas toast reviewing and celebrating the year, and the entire family remembers Tom and Alice while carrying on the tradition.

For some reason, though, the traditional Horton Christmas has not always been very Christmas-y. In past years, JJ broke up with Paige and wasn't even around to hang his ornament, Clare and Ciara broke each others' ornaments, and there was the sense that this was just another day of heartbreaking drama.

Paramount’s careful morale-building war drama doesn’t exaggerate or over-sentimentalize the brutal fall of a tiny island in the Pacific. John Farrow directs a fine group of actors who knew the film ‘had to say the right things.’ It stands as a fine example of filmmaking reaching for hope in the face of disaster.

The first WW2 Hollywood combat film based on an actual battle is the beautifully made Wake Island. It’s even more beautifully conceived to achieve multiple public relations aims in a time of great crisis. Until 1941 Wake Island had been little more than a stop for Pacific-hopping Pan-American clipper ship airplanes; Japan bombed it a few hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

“Days of Our Lives” premiered on November 8, 1965 on NBC. Created by Ted Corday and Betty Corday, the daytime drama follows the lives, loves, careers and crises of the citizens of Salem. And though it was part of an NBC family of soaps over the years that included “Another World,” “The Doctors,” “Generations,” “Santa Barbara” and “Sunset Beach,” it has been all alone on the NBC lineup ever since “Passions” was cancelled by the network in 2007.
