Actor Emilio Echevarría, well known for starring in “Amores Perros” and James Bond installment “Die Another Day,” has died. He was 80 years old.

The Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences shared the news of his death in an X post Saturday. No other details pertaining to his death have been confirmed.

“The Amacc mourns the sensitive death of actor Emilio Echevarría, who forged an enormous career in film and theater,” the post read, which was translated from Spanish to English via Google Translate.

Echevarría was born in Mexico City on July 3, 1944. Initially, he started a career in finance, studying accounting at the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

Per Oscarsson, who has died aged 83, was perhaps the only leading Swedish actor who never worked with Ingmar Bergman. This might have been by accident rather than design, although Oscarsson was known for his manic performances, whereas Bergman's men were usually placid. In other words, Oscarsson was more Klaus Kinski than Max Von Sydow.

Oscarsson's most memorable role was in Sult (Hunger, 1966) as Pontus, a bespectacled, penniless and starving young writer in Norway at the end of the 19th century. I love getting IndieWire’s Cannes Wish List. IndieWire's commentary on each film is interesting in and of itself. I find myself remarking "I didn't know that!" at every other entry. My former Tipped for Cannes Report (when FilmFinders was my company) was one of my most popular reports because film buyers and programmers could immediately hone in on their targets. So, in keeping with tradition, I pulled together the list Screen International (Si) and blogger ion (he did a lot of research for this!) published in February just after the Berlinale and am now going to compare it with Iw’s. San Sebastian, Spain -- U.S. venture capital fund GC Financial Group has acquired a 25% stake in Barcelona-based Zip Films for €3.7 million, giving it a foothold in Spain from which to launch a European expansion.

"Now we have a base in Europe to take advantage of the financing structure for independent films," GC managing partner Adi Cohen said Thursday. "Zip is our base with the Spanish-speaking film industry, and gives us a place to launch our European entertainment operation."

Cohen said GC would be looking to buy another film company in Germany as part of its strategy.

"In the last 10 years most independent films were financed out of Europe," Cohen said. "We're looking to be in the center of the process, instead of at the end of the food chain."
