Shadow Force is heading to digital on May 30, courtesy of Lionsgate. Heading up to the movie's digital launch, Cbr can unveil a sneak peek at the release's bonus features.

In Shadow Force, Kerry Washington and Omar Sy play Kyrah and Issac, the former leaders of a special forces group known as the Shadow Force, and the two must fight for their lives with a big bounty placed upon them. Bonus features will allow viewers to see how the movie's action was brought to life, and that's on display in Cbr's sneak peek clip. In the video, production designer P. Erik Carlson breaks down the final gunfight with footage revealing the team preparing for the big scene's destruction. From spraying fake blood on the walls to throwing stunt performers through glass, the clip demonstrates the efforts that the filmmakers went through for the scene to have maximum impact. When a now-defunct celebrity couple attempted to make like Nick and Nora Charles meets “Mission: Impossible” in “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” two decades ago, the high-concept, high-budget results were a mixed bag — which didn’t stop them from being imitated ever since. The latest duo to step into similar matching marital bulletproof vests is Kerry Washington and Omar Sy, playing globetrotting “elite special operators” now hiding from their former colleagues in “Shadow Force.”

It takes a certain esprit to pull off this kind of bombastic yet larky star vehicle. Joe Carnahan’s film provides passable diversion for a couple hours, but the fun to be had is limited by uninspired action staging, less-than-sparkling dialogue and a maudlin streak of the “It’s about family!!” type. Lionsgate’s theatrical release looks likelier to find its primary audience once it reaches home formats.

Kyrah (Washington) and Isaac (Sy) are a couple who met on the job.

Dish Network showed progress in its pivot toward the wireless business, smashing Wall Street’s fourth-quarter earnings estimates and reporting just shy of 8 million retail wireless subscribers as of the end of 2022.

The company’s shares perked up 5% on the news, ending the trading day at $13.76, though the stock remains well below its level in mid-2022.

During the company’s quarterly earnings call, Executive Chairman Charlie Ergen widened his attack on programmers seeking to extract ever-higher fees from Dish to carry their networks. The company has long been at odds with regional sports networks and at times has feuded with HBO, Univision and local stations. Asked during the press portion of the call about the company’s dispute with Cox Media Group, nine of whose stations went Dark on Dish platforms last fall.

Dish Network lost 268,000 net pay TV subscribers in the fourth quarter, compared with a drop of 273,000 in the year-ago period and a gain of 30,000 in the third quarter of the year.

The latest quarter’s figures include subscriber drops for the traditional Dish pay TV service, as well as the Sling TV streaming service. The company disclosed in a regulatory filing early on Thursday that it lost around 77,000 Sling TV subscribers in the latest period, while recording a net decline of about 191,000 traditional satellite TV subscribers.

The company, led by CEO Erik Carlson and chairman Charlie Ergen, ended 2022 with 9.75 million total subscribers, down from 10.02 million as of the end of the third quarter on Sept. 30. That included 7.42 million Dish TV subscribers, down from 7.61 million as of the end of September, and 2.33 million Sling TV subscribers, down from 2.41 million as of September. After several quarters of declaring a potential merger of Dish Network and DirecTV as “inevitable,” Dish Network Chairman Charlie Ergen appeared to move up the timeline Wednesday.

Following Dish Network’s third-quarter earnings, Ergen was asked by an analyst whether the current political environment would allow for a long-anticipated merger of the two companies.

“You’re hesitant to be a political football for somebody to complain about big companies or whatever in an election cycle. But that election cycle is over next week. And then you have a window, where I think all companies are looking at M&a,” Ergen said.

“If the timing was right, it would be in the near term, not the longer term,” he added.

The two companies had previously tried to merge in 2002, but were blocked by federal regulators, who said the combination would reduce the number of video options for consumers.

Charlie Ergen is giving up his President title — and the day-to-day operational control that comes with it — at Dish Network. Both will go to the promoted Erik Carlson, while Ergen maintains his roles as CEO and chairman. I was not one of those fans. I, like many of you, bailed on "The Killing" very early on in season one. Also like many of you, I was stunned to learn that the season-one finale didn't answer the question of who killed Rosie Larsen; viewers would have to wait until the end of season two for that particular case to close, extending the longest episode of "Law & Order: Svu" by an additional marathon.

NEW YORK -- Dish Network Corp. said late Tuesday that Carl Vogel has stepped down as president for personal reasons, with chairman and CEO Charlie Ergen taken on his role, effective immediately.

Ergen also serves as chairman and CEO of EchoStar Corp., the other company created in a recent split of the satellite TV giant.

Vogel remains vice chairman of Dish Network and EchoStar, reporting to Ergen, and continues to leading the corporate development, programming and business & commercial services functions, according to the company. Dish Network didn't specify the nature of the "personal reasons" he had for giving up the president role.

Ergen also announced the promotion of Erik Carlson to the role of executive vp, operations at Dish and of Tom Stingley to thepost of executive vp, sales & distribution for the company.
