BBC Begins Filming Season 2 of Return to Paradise, With Ardal O’Hanlon Set to Guest Star
Return to Paradise (2024)
Production is now underway on the second season of Return to Paradise, the BBC drama set on the Australian coast and spun off from its long-running crime series Death in Paradise. The new season will feature six episodes and bring back several core cast members, along with a slate of guest appearances, including a return from Death in Paradise actor Ardal O’Hanlon.

Filming is taking place around Sydney, with Anna Samson returning as Detective Sergeant Mackenzie Clarke. The series follows Clarke’s return to her hometown, Dolphin Cove, where she balances personal tensions with professional investigations. That storyline will continue in the upcoming season.

The BBC has confirmed that the second series will air on BBC One and be available on iPlayer.

Stuart Beattie, whose credits as a writer include working on Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra and who directed the likes of Tomorrow, When the War Began and I, Frankenstein, teams up with first-time feature director Matthew Reilly for Interceptor, a very timely piece of action cinema – one that puts the Russians firmly back on the filmic map as The bad guys of the movies, along with their co-conspiring American dissident buddies (aka Trump supporters looking to “make America great again”).

The film follows Captain JJ Collins (Elsa Pataky), who’s called back to active duty after she is wrongfully drummed out of her dream job at the Pentagon. When a simultaneous coordinated attack then threatens the base itself,...

Rodger Corser in Doctor Doctor (2016)
Zoe Carides contemplates a temporary life without stage and screen and music
Rodger Corser in Doctor Doctor (2016)
‘Doctor Doctor’ colleagues Zoe Carides and Tina Bursill.

Zoe Carides has been a leading light on stage and screen for 35 years, has had her own Nancy Sinatra tribute band for six years and is often sought after for voice-overs.

All that has come to a screeching halt amid the pandemic crisis. “I really don’t know what I’ll do,” she tells If. “I’ve been lucky and I’m grateful for my career. Generally anything I do on stage these days is more substantial than what I do on screen.

“There is a possibility I can give a couple of classes via Zoom to a group of young performers in the Southern Highlands.”

Among her recent roles she played the corrupt mayor Nancy Miller in Easy Tiger/Nine Network Doctor Doctor, Doctor Carras in Playmaker Media/Stan’s The Commons and a therapist in Playmaker Media/Sony Pictures Television Networks’ psychological thriller Reckoning,...

Luke Ford
Vale esteemed talent agent Barbara Leane
Luke Ford
Barbara Leane has been remembered by friends and colleagues as a trailblazing talent agent, an astute businesswoman and a mentor to countless actors and young agents.

Leane died on Friday on the Gold Coast after being diagnosed with cancer in January. Her age was a ‘state secret.’

Barbara Leane Management mentored some of the country’s most successful actors including Luke Ford, Wendy Hughes, Max Cullen, Kerry Armstrong, Peter Phelps, Bruce Spence, Anne Looby, Ian Stenlake and Susan Prior.

Phelps was 18 and making his debut on The Restless Years when legendary actor John Ewart asked him about his agent. “What do they do?” Phelps asked, so Ewart urged him to approach Leane, who went on to represent him for 25 years until she retired.

“Barbara was the den mother to every one of her beloved actor cubs,” Phelps tells If. “She chose her client actors on who that person was as...

“There were some beauties, a lot of thought and sweat. The word bravery kept popping into my head – the bravery to take the first step, to create your own work, and to put it out there,” says Susan, whose recent credits include Frayed and the upcoming The Gloaming and The Wrong Guy.

“Face Off and any other initiatives out there such as Mark Forytarz’s Melbourne Film Factory and Ron Brown...

Richard Brancatisano.and.Andrea Demetriades

Australian rules football drama Blinder is searching for a new distributor.

The $5 million film will now be screened for distributors in the next fortnight ahead of a planned wide theatrical release next year. The film also stars Josh Helman (Animal Kingdom, The Pacific), Oliver Ackland (The Slap, Cloudstreet), Rose McIver (The Lovely Bones), Steve Bisley (Red Hill), Anna Hutchison (Wild Boys), Zoe Carides (Death In Brunswick), Bob Morley (Road Train...

The creators of The Tunnel release Event Zero on YouTube
Coming off the success of The Tunnel, production partners Enzo Tedeschi and Julian Harvey have released the first episode of their seven part web series, Event Zero.

.We wanted The Tunnel to appear real in every way., says Harvey, producer and co-creator of the hit Australian horror film, .but for Event Zero, we.re going for a hugely cinematic feel. Hopefully people will be caught off guard by what we accomplished with the money we had. We wanted to show people that we could tackle the big scenes..

Event Zero is a collection of seven stories all centered on a train derailment near Circular Quay. When the emergency services arrive at the scene, seemingly unaffected people begin to die. The story is loosely based on the 1995 Sarin gas attacks in Tokyo.

Tedeschi and Harvey received funding for Event Zero through Screen Australia and Movie Extra after their concept won the 2012 Movie Extra Webfest 2.0 competition.
