Downton Abbey is making its grand return to television ahead of the release of the third and seemingly final movie later this year. The long-running British television series aired for six seasons before concluding its initial run, but the cast of the show returned for two more movies in 2019 and 2022 before the upcoming film.

Ahead of the release of The Grand Finale, though, Downton Abbey is returning to television for an NBC primetime special, per Variety. The special, meant to celebrate the entire franchise, will air on September 10 on NBC before streaming on Peacock the next day. It will feature exclusive interviews with the cast, filmed during the production of The Grand Finale.

Per the details by the Associated Press, citing her longtime publicist Cheryl J. Kagan, the actress took her last breaths at a Los Angeles hospital following a prolonged illness. While details are yet to be revealed, it is known that, growing up, she witnessed the effects of the lung disease chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (Copd), which is often caused by smoking.

Following her devastating demise, her family said in a statement:

Jackie Chan fans will understand the words coming out of Netflix's mouth: the streamer announced the full Rush Hour trilogy will hit its catalog next month. Rush Hour 1, 2 and 3 arrive on Netflix August 1, according to official listings. It'll be the only streaming platform to host all three Rush Hour films, a rare win for subscribed completists.

For the uninitiated, Rush Hour is one of the quintessential buddy cop comedies. It and its two sequels are responsible for defining the genre throughout the late 1990s and 2000s; the original installment synopsis is as follows:

When a Chinese diplomat's daughter is kidnapped in Los Angeles, he calls in Hong Kong Detective Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) to assist the FBI with the case. But the FBI doesn't want anything to do with Lee, and they dump him off on the LAPD, who assign wisecracking Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker) to watch over him.

Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale brings the extended Crawley family and their dedicated staff back to the big screen for the third and final time. Set in the 1930s, the plot centers around Lady Mary Talbot's public scandal and the family at large confronting financial woes, which pushes the entire estate to the brink of social ruin. Focus Features on Monday released the first trailer for Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, which hits theaters Friday, Sept. 12. The footage sees Lady Mary Talbot (Michelle Dockery) stop and pause to look at a portrait of the late Dowager Countess Violet Crawley, who died in 2022’s Downton Abbey: A New Era (prior to Smith’s death in 2024).

Welcome to the 1930s. Focus Features has just released the emotional teaser trailer for Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale. The teaser takes place in 1930 and hints that the film is about the Crawleys coming to terms with leaving the Abbey behind. Focus Features has finally unleased the first real look at Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, the third and final film in the movie series based on the PBS period drama created by Julian Fellowes. The film hits theaters September 12.

With some of the same footage shown to exhibitors during Focus’ presentation at CinemaCon earlier this spring, the teaser lays out the plot: the Crawley family and its staff arrive at 1930, looking to the future while saying goodbye to the past.

That includes the family’s famed Grantham Estate. At one point, the head of the family Robert Crawley (Hugh Bonneville) pays respect to the mansion that made the show famous — the real Highclere Castle in Hampshire, England — by giving it a pat and a kiss, apparently as the family says goodbye to it.
