Seth MacFarlane's Most Controversial Series Is Getting 2 More Holiday Specials
Image
Hulu comes strong for Halloween grabs each year, and as it turns out, 2025 isn’t going to be any different. Seth MacFarlane’s most provocative and unapologetic creation, Family Guy, is expanding its Hulu-exclusive lineup with two new holiday specials. It starts with a Halloween episode titled “A Little Fight Music,” premiering Monday, October 6 — the title for the second special is not yet unveiled. The specials will be separate from Family Guy Season 24, which will air in 2026.

As per Variety, the news comes after it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 on July 26. The Halloween episode features Brian and Stewie writing a Halloween hit due to the “shortage of quality Halloween songs,” while Peter and friends face dark consequences from faking trick-or-treating. This continues Hulu’s direct collaboration with 20th Television Animation, separate from the show’s traditional Fox broadcast schedule. It is also not Family Guy’s first exclusive for Hulu.

10 Best Slow-Burn Westerns, Ranked
Image
Since the days of John Wayne and Howard Hawks, Western movies have been among the most respected in cinema, blending everything from adventure and action with social commentary and history. Having built up the careers of Hollywood icons like Clint Eastwood, John Ford, and Kevin Costner, the genre has also delivered a consistent line of fantastic films, from classics like The Searchers to modern hits like Django Unchained.

While some Westerns take no time to get to the action side of the genre, others have shown a penchant for telling drawn-out, slow-burn stories, which focus on characters and tension instead of gunfights. For many, the charm of the genre lies in its stunning visuals and almost unparalleled character studies, and some movies do a much better job of honoring this than others. From epic classics to modern hidden gems, the genre has no shortage of stories that take their time in getting to the action.

FBI Season 7, Episode 5 Review: An Episode That Follows Law & Order
Image
The following contains major spoilers from FBI Season 7, Episode 5, "Pledges," which debuted Tuesday, Nov. 19 on CBS.

Viewers know that FBI has a lot in common with the Law & Order franchise: they share the same creator, two of the same actors, and some of the same creative DNA. Those connections are more obvious in FBI Season 7, Episode 5, "Pledges," which has all the conventions of a Law & Order episode. While there's one big difference in the storytelling, a lot of things feel the same.

"Pledges" starts off with a violent protest at Hudson University -- the same fictional university used in several Law & Order franchise episodes -- as students are angry that campus officials won't open up the dorms to migrants. But whereas the NBC show would use this as a platform to talk about undocumented immigration or immigration rights, FBI delivers something much less timely. Add in a subplot that never quite gels,...

Why 24: Legacy Was Canceled
Image
Quick Links What Was 24: Legacy? 24: Legacy Felt Too Generic Audiences Just Wanted An Ending For Jack Bauer Poor Ratings Killed 24: Legacy

Initially released in 2002, 24 became the face of a new generation of action TV as it followed CTU agent Jack Bauer in a series of real-time missions to safeguard America from terrorism. Ranging from preventing nuclear attacks in the heart of Los Angeles to assassinations in Washington DC, the hero's intensity and skill made both him and the show iconic. Since the original series concluded, Fox tried to get it back off the ground -- including a canceled spin-off.

The original 24 series won over millions of fans around the world for its well-written political drama, intense action, and binge-inducing real-time format. As audiences could see Bauer race around Los Angeles, fighting off terrorists and commandos, they'd also be treated to a look at the president's response and leadership.

The Sweet Reason Donald Sutherland Rejected Playing Kiefer's Dad On 24
Image
Donald Sutherland passed on 24 to avoid playing a father trying to kill his own son. Donald didn't want the first time he acted onscreen with his real son Kiefer to be his antagonist. Sutherland and Kiefer only shared scenes in one movie, Forsaken, directed by Jon Cassar.

Donald Sutherland passed on a major role in 24 alongside his son Kiefer, but he did it for the sweetest of reasons. Donald Sutherland passed away at the age of 88 in July 2024 and despite having (somehow) never been nominated for an Academy Award, he was seen as one of the best actors of his generation. During the 1970s, Sutherland went on a positively eye-watering run of great movies, fronting Robert Altman's Mash, Don't Look Now, Klute, 1978's Invasion of the Body Snatchers and more.

Sutherland had no shortage of great roles in the decades that followed, from his incredible cameo as a pyromaniac...

‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ Officially Renewed for Season 5, Will Move to Peacock From NBC
Image
“Law & Order: Organized Crime” has been renewed for Season 5, with the show now officially set to move from NBC to Peacock.

The news comes after weeks of speculation that the show would make the jump to the streaming service from the broadcast network. The Season 4 finale will air on NBC on May 16 and stream the next day on Peacock.

Moving “Law & Order: Oc” to Peacock is not altogether surprising. The show has lagged behind fellow Dick Wolf series “Law & Order,” “Law & Order: Svu,” and the three “Chicago” shows at NBC while still maintaining solid viewership. It also reportedly does very well on Peacock, particularly given its more serialized storylines, a departure from Wolf’s typical procedural format.

It was also the last Dick Wolf broadcast show awaiting word on its fate for next season. The other two “Law & Order” shows and all three “Chicago” shows were renewed back in March.

‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ Officially Moving To Peacock For Season 5
Image
It’s a done deal — NBC’s Law & Order: Organized Crime starring Christopher Meloni has been renewed for a fifth season, which will be streaming exclusively on Peacock. As Deadline previously reported, Season 5 is expected to consist of 10 episodes, less than what the Wolf Entertainment series produced for NBC under normal circumstances but on the high end of an original streaming series whose seasons typically consist of 8 episodes. John Shiban is returning as showrunner.

The move gives the NBCUniversal streamer an original Dick Wolf drama series to go with the Wolf library and next-day runs of the company’s remaining NBC series Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., Chicago Med, Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu, which are among the platform’s most viewed titles.

Created by Dick Wolf, Matt Olmstead and Ilene Chaiken, Law & Order: Organized Crime follows the detectives of the Organized Crime Control Bureau,...

Rocco Matteo (‘Rabbit Hole’ production designer): ‘We designed an action thriller where a lot of the real action is mental’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
Image
As a film and television production desinger for nearly three decades, Emmy nominee Rocco Matteo was no stranger to the spy thriller genre. But when he was hired to design the new Paramount+ eight-episode streaming series “Rabbit Hole” starring “24” alum Kiefer Sutherland, he encountered something somewhat new for him: a star who led with his body and liked to toss caution to the wind. So part of his job, he discovered early on, was to help save Sutherland from himself. Watch our exclusive video interview above.

“One of our directors on ‘Rabbit Hole,’ Jon Cassar, who had worked with Kiefer on “24” for a long time, came up to me one day and said, ‘Oh by the way, make sure that anything Kiefer has to come into contact with is padded very well, because he won’t hold back’,” Matteo recalls. “He is so true to form in his character...

Howard Gordon on Fox Panic Over New Show ‘Accused,’ Making More ‘24’ and Being “A Writer of a Certain Age”
Image
Howard Gordon has spent much of the pandemic consumed by his latest thriller, an anthology series titled Accused. The weekly collection of topical stories, where viewers come in knowing nothing about the featured crime or how the defendant ended up on trial, has him back at Fox — home to his earlier entries The X-Files and 24. And while he didn’t necessarily conceive of Accused for broadcast, he believed the adaptation of the BBC series would be best suited for a commercial environment. So, on Jan. 22 comes the first entry from the lucrative deal Gordon and his longtime friend, Princeton classmate and Homeland co-creator Alex Gansa signed with Sony Pictures Television in 2019.

Ahead of its debut, the Emmy-winning showrunner, just back from two weeks in Japan with his wife and three grown children, invited THR to his home in the Pacific Palisades for a wide-ranging conversation about a fast-changing industry and,...

Video Exclusive: Brannon Braga, Jon Cassar & David Goodman On What Makes Seth MacFarlane Great On ‘The Orville’
Image
The Orville, a Seth MacFarlane sci-fi comedy that pays homage to Star Trek, is back for Season 3.

Director Jon Cassar and executive producers Brannon Braga and David Goodman recently sat down with uInterview founder Erik Meers for an exclusive interview where they discussed what it was like working with show creator and actor Seth MacFarlane.

“I worked with his side-by-side, especially in the last five episodes,” Cassar revealed. “After Covid, we came back and we put them all together as one giant schedule between the two of us on any given day. I had epsidoes, he had epsidoes, I did some of the action stuff for him. It was like almost two directors on every episode. Being beside him all that time, I realized not only is he a great writer which he is, comedy and drama. Not only is he a great preformer, but he’s a fantastic director.

Kiefer Sutherland at an event for 24 (2001)
24 Producer Explains Why There Hasn't Been a Revival
Kiefer Sutherland at an event for 24 (2001)
With so many shows being revived, it's about time Fox brings back 24. The hit series, starring Kiefer Sutherland, aired for eight seasons between 2001 and 2014 and had a television movie on Fox before taking its final bow in 2014. Since then, there's been a lot of talk about bringing back the spy show, which followed agent counterterrorist agent Jack Bauer, but nothing has happened and fans want to know why.  For executive producer Jon Cassar, the reason is quite simple. "They've been talking about it for years, it's a tough one," Cassar told Screenrant Aug. 4. "It's how do you come back and how do you come up with another story?" He continued,...

The Orville: New Horizons Season 3 Episode 8 Review – Midnight Blue

The Orville: New Horizons Season 3 Episode 8

When Den of Geek spoke to the creative team of The Orville: New Horizons, director Jon Cassar, and executive-producers David A. Goodman and Brannon Braga spoke of how many of the episodes in this third season felt like making small films. There is no doubt “Midnight Blue” is the ultimate example of that creative approach.

This third season has far surpassed the outreach of the previous two outings of The Orville in terms of scope, scale, and more importantly: social commentary. Only three episodes ago, in “A Tale of Two Topas”, the show dealt with an immensely important and topical issue when Topa (Imani Pullum), felt unhappy in their existence. While Topa had the support of one of her fathers, Bortus (Peter Macon), they truly only found themselves when they transitioned to female and once again claimed who she is.

The Orville: New Horizons Season 3 Episode 4 Review – Gently Falling Rain
The Outer Limits (1995)
This review of The Orville: New Horizons contains spoilers.

The Orville: New Horizons Season 3 Episode 4

Good science-fiction should challenge us. It should contain subtext that can teach, subvert, and even make us uncomfortable by shining a light on aspects of our world we don’t want to look at. Whether it is the golden standard of this layered writing style such as The Outer Limits, the legendary The Twilight Zone, or recent forays into the genre like Black Mirror, these tiny vignettes of fiction are loaded with political subtext and important morals. This week’s “Gently Falling Rain”, much like the season 3 premiere of The Orville: New Horizons perhaps goes from subtextual to “textual”, but can definitely be considered one of the biggest episodes of the series in terms of scope, impact, and timeliness.

Jon Cassar, director of “Gently Falling Rain”, chooses to open the story in a very ominous and almost silent fashion,...

‘The Orville’ Future Beyond Season 3 Uncertain As Seth MacFarlane & His Cast Focus On Other Projects
Image
The Orville has been a passion project — and a big undertaking — for Seth MacFarlane who created, writes, directs, executive produces and stars in the space comedy-drama. As the series is preparing for the June 2 launch of Season 3 on Hulu, there are no current plans for a fourth season. I hear the cast of the series was released in August when their most recent options expired.

In addition to finishing Season 3 of The Orville, titled New Horizons, MacFarlane has been focusing on his development under the mega overall deal he has at NBCUniversal, including the upcoming Peacock series Ted, based on MacFarlane’s movie franchise, with him reprising his voice role as the title character. Ted just cast The Orville cast member Scott Grimes as a series regular, reuniting him with MacFarlane.

While there are no plans for Season 4 of The Orville, I hear Season 3 is not designed as a definitive ending to the series.

Hulu has delayed “The Orville” Season 3 premiere from March until June, but the streamer released the first few minutes of footage from the new season as a conciliation prize to fans while they wait even longer for the show’s return.

“To all ‘The Orville’ fans: Thanks for being so patient with us as we’ve navigated the production challenges resulting from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic,” creator and star Seth MacFarlane said in a statement tweeted Friday. “As occasionally happens, our show has been repositioned amidst the ever-changing television schedule landscape, which means that the wait will be just a bit longer, and we’re now preparing for a June 2nd launch on Hulu. We’ve always promised you a television experience that will make it worth the wait, and we’re not wavering on that. We understand the frustration you’re feeling over more delays, so we want to...
