After the suicide of Joy Division's frontman Ian Curtis, the remaining members emerged as New Order. This brought about the release of 'Blue Mondays', which saw the new band placed firmly in the British rock scene.

The organisers of the annual Funny Women competition have defended their decision to start charging contestants a registration fee of £15. Several comedians including Sarah Millican, Bethany Black, Shappi Khorsandi

and Jo Caulfield took to Twitter to complain about the change and the event's founder Lynne Parker. Millican said: "Advice to any budding female comedians, no need to pay to play by entering Funny Women. Just be funny, write loads & work very hard." Khorsandi added: "Aspiring comics! Never pay to enter a competition! Buy a new hat instead." Black said: "If Lynne hasn't been able to raise the money to cover the costs then that's her failure. TV presenter Matthew Wright was left confused yesterday when he thought a caller to his show had confessed to having sex with dog. During a discussion on Five's The Wright Stuff about fulfilling partners' desires, a woman named Sue phoned up to explain that she had been willing to do "something to do with canines" for her ex-lover. "I gave in to his fantasy because at the time I very much cared for him and I thought maybe it's a one-off," she said. "Maybe it's not too bad, if this is what he wants to do once, then that's fine. 'Sex Bombs' a new comedy panel pilot show for BBC Northern Ireland hosted by Irish comedy star Ed Byrne (Have I Got News for You) will air this Friday, April 3 on BBC One Ni at 10pm. The show will feature a team of male comedians versus a team of female comedians trying to answer the age old question, “Who are the best at everything, Men or Women?” The female team is lead by Jo Caulfield (Never Mind the Buzzcocks) while John Bishop (8 Out of 10 Cats) heads up the male team. Guests to join the pilot show this week are Zoe Lyons, Kerry Godliman, Lloyd Langford, Pete Johansson. The studio audience which is made up of 50 per cent males and 50 per cent females will get to decide which gender has made the most convincing comedy argument, the men or the women.
