Trivia

Chris Cauwenberghs

Edit
  • He studied drama at the Koninlijk Conservatorium in Brussels, Belgium. He had some famous teachers, such as Nand Buyl and Leo Dewals. People like Luk De Koninck, Jaak Van Assche, Tessy Moerenhout, Luk van Mello, Gilda De Bal, Josse De Pauw, Magda De Winter, Luc Springuel, Tuur De Weert and René Verreth were his co-students.
  • He was an engineer trained, but also studied drama at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels.
  • From the late 1970s, Cauwenberghs often played colorful characters in Flemish and Dutch films and series.
  • In 2014, it became known that Cauwenberghs had been diagnosed with cancer of the lymph nodes, causing him to be unable to perform as Kabouter Lui at Plopshows in the Autumn. In July 2015, production house Studio 100 announced that Chris's health was improving. After heavy chemotherapy and radiation treatment, the actor had overcome cancer. Although he was declared cured, Cauwenberghs did not return to the spotlight.
  • Cauwenberghs became best known for his role as Kabouter Lui (gnome Lazy) in the Studio 100 series, a character he played from 1997 to 2014. At 1.98 meters tall, you could not possibly look past him, and he must have been shouted at countless times with: "."Ik word daar zo moe van!" (I'm getting so tired of that), his most famous statement in hos role as a lazy gnome. Chris Cauwenberghs will be remembered in the Flemish collective memory forever as Kabouter Lui.
