‘A Little Prayer’ Trailer: David Strathairn, Jane Levy & Anna Camp Star In Angus MacLachlan’s Southern Family Drama
Image
Writer/director Angus MacLachlan’s latest Southern family drama has debuted its trailer ahead of the film’s August 29 release in theaters.

Following it’s 2023 Sundance premiere, the sneak peek of A Little Prayer teases David Strathairn’s performance as patriarch Bill, whose daugther Patti (Anna Camp) returns home amid her failing marriage, while he brings his son David (Will Pullen) into the family business.

The cast is rounded out by Celia Weston as Bill’s wife Celia, Jane Levy as their daughter-in-law Tammy and Dascha Polanco as Bill’s employee Narcedalia, who catches David’s wandering eye.

Harboring doubts about David’s discipline and commitment, Bill gravitates towards Tammy his daughter-in-law Tammy, the only other person in his rambunctious household who values contemplation and repose.

A Little Prayer‘s limited release includes Angelika Film Center in NYC, Laemmle Royal and Laemmle Town Center in Los Angeles, Music Box Theatre...

From Barfly to Butcher: Revisiting George Wendt’s ‘Masters of Horror’ Episode
Image
George Wendt is best known for playing a regular at the bar where everybody knows your name. Yet other than Norm on Cheers, I mostly — and fondly — remember the late Wendt for two of his horror roles. Firstly, it’s hard to forget him as the nosy neighbor in 1985’s House; playing opposite William Katt, Wendt’s supporting character offered much-appreciated laughs in that rather tense horror-comedy. Then over a decade after closing out his tab on Cheers, Wendt landed not only a part in the anthology series Masters of Horror, he was, on this somewhat rare occasion, actually playing the lead.

After delivering the first season oddball “Deer Woman,” director John Landis returned with the more straightforward yet also comedic “Family.” This time, however, the story packed in some gruesome imagery and sick ideas that you wouldn’t normally associate with its star. It wasn’t until Stuart Gordon’s King of the Ants,...

‘Doctor Odyssey’ Finale Upbeat With No Hint Of A Future On The High Seas
Image
Spoiler Alert! This story contains details from the season one finale of Doctor Odyssey on ABC.

Doctor Odyssey wrapped its first season Thursday on an upbeat note, especially given the uncertainty over the drama’s future.

As Deadline reported, the series from Ryan Murphy that stars Joshua Jackson, Phillipa Soo and Don Johnson remains on the bubble: it’s not scheduled to return in the fall but no one’s saying it’s canceled. Disney TV Group Chairman Craig Erwich President told Deadline that “Ryan’s really busy. He’s doing a lot with us. 9-1-1, 9-1-1 Nashville, All’s Fair [for Hulu]. So we’re just continuing that creative conversations with him.”

Should Doctor Odyssey remain in port for good, at least it didn’t leave us with unanswered questions in the finale. Soo’s character Avery ended part 2 of “The Wave” by declaring to Jackson’s Max that she did,...

We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011) Movie Ending Explained & Themes Analyzed: Why did Kevin Commit the Crime?
Lynne Ramsay
Directed and co-written by Lynne Ramsay and based on Lionel Shriver’s 2003 novel of the same name, “We Need to Talk About Kevin” (2011) has remained one of the most talked-about movies of the last decade. The way it stages both the build-up to—and the aftermath of—a fictional school massacre, and how it unravels through the mother of the perpetrator, is so chillingly real and inwardly grounded that one might easily believe it’s based on a true incident.

The cinematic language Ramsay uses to examine familial blindness to sociopathy, societal blame-shifting, and the anatomy of trauma is so disarmingly simple and universal that it cuts deep. The film feels like a reel of a grieving woman’s life projected through a cracked mirror. And that’s not just aesthetic—it’s embedded deep within the storytelling. Eva’s non-linear character sketch holds nothing back that is crucial to...

I Was Today Years Old When I Realized ‘The Office’ Star Melora Hardin Starred in One of the Best ‘Friends’ Episode
Image
We all know Melora Hardin as Jan Levinson, the sharp, often hilariously awkward vice president of Dunder Mifflin’s regional sales division on The Office. With her role as the complex and, at times, unpredictable Jan, she became a household name in television history. But what if we told you that Melora had already made her mark on another hit NBC show long before her time at Dunder Mifflin?

Yes, Hardin was part of one of the most memorable Friends episodes, and no, it’s not one of the big season finales or major plot twists you might be thinking of. It’s a quirky, one-off guest appearance that might have slipped under the radar for many fans.

Melora Hardin guest-starred in one episode of Friends

In 1995, at the height of Friends‘ first season, Melora Hardin made a brief but unforgettable appearance on Friends in the episode The One with the Stoned Guy.

‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 Photos & Footage Give First Look At Masquerade Ball, Lady In Silver & More, Credits Confirm Who Will Be Back

It’s a longstanding Bridgerton tradition for the show to release content from the romance drama on Valentine’s Day. This time, Netflix is providing first-look images and footage from the upcoming fourth season, which is not slated to premiere until next year.

The eight-episode Season 4, about Benedict Bridgerton’s (Luke Thompson) search for love, is still in production in London but it already has filmed the pivotal masquerade ball scene, with several photos provided of Benedict and the Lady in Silver, Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), who will capture his heart.

There is also video of that — as Sophie calls it — “spectacular night,” with her and Benedict seen dancing in the dark. You can watch the full video with a lot more Season 4 footage a little further down.

The released images also provide glimpses at Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Luke Newton (Colin Bridgerton) as new parents and indicate that Violet...

‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 Teaser Unmasks Benedict and Sophie’s Cinderella Love Story

Netflix gave “Bridgerton” fans a special Valentine’s Day present Friday with a first look at Season 4. The streamer unveiled several images from the upcoming season as well as a behind-the-scenes video cut with the first footage from the new episodes, which are still in production.

Now starring new leading couple Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha as Benedict Bridgerton and love interest Sophie Baek, respectively, the new season of the Shonda Rhimes-produced romance “turns its focus to bohemian second son Benedict (Thompson). Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down — until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver (Ha’s Sophie) at his mother’s masquerade ball.”

British star Rose Ayling-Ellis is only 30 years old but has already broken new ground and torn down barriers left and right.

In 2021, she became the first deaf contestant on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing – and won the season. In 2022, Ayling-Ellis was the first celebrity to tell a bedtime story on BBC kids channel CBeebies, namely Raymond Antrobus’ Can Bears Ski?, in sign language. That year, she also gave the Alternative MacTaggart Lecture at the Edinburgh Television Festival, saying “I am disabled because I live and work in a world that disables me,” adding: “I am done with being the token deaf character.”

Regular Show’s Reboot Can Finally Solve The Cartoon Network Series’ Biggest Mystery 15 Years Later
Image
Regular Show’s revival is the perfect opportunity for us to learn more about High Five Ghost, a character that did not get to shine much in the original series. While a new Regular Show was revealed to be in the works in June 2024 (via Variety), not much is known about the project yet. Recently, Regular Show’s new series was rumored to be called Regular Show: The Lost Tapes. If that is indeed the title of the revival, Regular Show’s return could actually be an anthology featuring “untold stories” set during the series’ original run.

A Regular Show anthology would work perfectly considering that most episodes of the original series were standalone adventures. Apart from a few arcs, especially the ones involving Pops in the final two seasons, Regular Show was never worried about continuity and having overarching stories. This allowed the Cartoon Network hit series to play...

Brilliant Minds EP Michael Grassi Dishes on Season Finale Cliffhangers & Season 2 Possibilities
Image
When the Brilliant Minds Season 1 finale aired, there were some generous cliffhangers.

Oliver learned his dad was alive, which shook up his world. Carol was put on administrative leave for an ethical conflict of interest. Ericka experienced Ptsd after watching Celia die in the elevator.

Almost everyone’s life was in flux.

(Rafy/NBC)

TV Fanatic had the opportunity to chat with EP Michael Grassi about those pesky cliffhangers, Oliver and Josh’s relationship, the chances of a Season 2 renewal, and much more. It was a joy to speak with him.

Check out the interview below.

(Rafy/NBC)

So, Michael, that was a cliffhanger. Was it the plan all along to reintroduce Oliver’s father once Oliver was happier?

That was the plan all along. When I first met with Zach [Quinto], I pitched the season arc for his character. When I pitched it, I said, “And then Dad comes back...

Brilliant Minds Season 1 Finale Review: The Story Ends With Few Surprises
Image
The following contains major spoilers for Brilliant Minds Season 1, Episode 12 & Episode 13, "The Doctor Whose World Collapsed" and "The Man Who Can't See Faces," which debuted Monday, Jan. 6 on NBC.

The Brilliant Minds season finale wasn't supposed to be two episodes, until NBC decided to air them back-to-back. Watching Season 1, Episode 12 and Episode 13 together makes the network's decision very clear. The finale's storyline starts on a massive note in "The Doctor Whose World Collapsed," but "The Man Who Can't See Faces" doesn't have enough happening in it to stand on its own. Put together, they tell one unified story, even if it ends in the most predictable ways possible.

"The Doctor Whose World Collapsed" is referring to the partial collapse of Dr. Ericka Kinney's apartment building, and how that affects her. "The Man Who Can't See Faces" brings Brilliant Minds full circle to Dr. Oliver Wolf, and resolves the story from his past.

Brilliant Minds Season 1 Finale Review: [Spoiler’s] Return Throws Oliver’s World Out of Control
Image
That was some cliffhanger, and hopefully, the showrunners are confident that NBC will renew it for another season because this can’t be the end.

Before that, let’s discuss what happened in Brilliant Minds Season 1 Episode 12 and how the apartment collapsed, changing many characters’ lives.

This was the most action-packed and high-stakes case yet, and it demonstrated the importance of thinking fast and having people you can count on.

(Rafy/NBC) Josh and Oliver Rush to Save an Injured Woman

Waiting several weeks after Brilliant Minds Season 1 Episode 11’s cliffhanger was torturous. While we suspected they’d save Ericka, with the apartment collapsing, there would be other victims.

That accident kept us on the edge of our seats. There was a woman named Jenna trapped under the rubble with an open compressed fracture.

(Rafy/NBC)

While the EMTs called for Josh, I loved how Oliver insisted on accompanying him to the accident site.

Brilliant Minds Season 1 packed some emotional gut punches, including Ericka’s Ptsd from watching Celia die from the elevator collapsing. It was an incredibly emotional hour of TV.

Davis shared how the directors were involved with Brilliant Minds’ creative process, including the advice she gave Ashleigh Lathorp’s Ericka about how to appear traumatized.

(Rafy/NBC)

Since Davis is active on social media, she shared if she’s ever used ideas from there in an episode.

‘Brilliant Minds’ Episode 12 Recap: “The Doctor Whose World Collapsed”
Image
Zachary Quinto as Dr. Oliver Wolf in ‘Brilliant Minds’ episode 12 (Photo by: Rafy/NBC)

NBC’s Brilliant Minds season one winter finale left off with a cliffhanger showing Ericka’s apartment building collapsing. Episode 12 plunges into the aftermath of the collapse, with first responders looking for survivors amid the rubble.

200 people, including Ericka, live in the apartment complex that has partially collapsed.

Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto) warns the interns that a flood of traumatized survivors is coming their way. And although it’s against his normal teachings, they need to detach themselves from what’s happening and treat the injured.

The emergency room is quickly jam-packed with patients-some with minor injuries, some critical, and all needing assessment.

Back at the scene, paramedic Katie Rodriguez (from episode 10) is among the first responders helping the injured. A severely injured woman has a skull fracture, as diagnosed by a doctor (Mandy Patinkin...

Every TV Show Leaving Netflix in January 2025
Image
Netflix, the world's largest streaming service, keeps its viewers engaged and subscribed through its carefully cultivated array of television shows available on the platform. Boasting acquired and original titles like Stranger Things, You, Squid Game, Arcane, and many more, the mega-streamer ensures its audience is always coming back for more. With many new shows coming to the platform throughout 2025, Netflix must remove some long-time staples from their service. Whether the license expires or the show isn't performing to its desired levels, sometimes sacrifices must be made to benefit Netflix and keep it the number one streaming platform.

Unfortunately, audiences can expect to say goodbye to many multi-season TV shows throughout this January. However, viewers must keep in mind that new shows and movies will replace what the platform will lose. A few of the platform's new additions will include American Primeval, Cunk on Life, and The Night Agent, Season 2. Despite the following TV series removals,...

What Happened To Caroline Julian Actress Patricia Belcher After Bones?
Image
"Bones" was led by David Boreanez and Emily Deschanel as FBI agent Seeley Booth and forensic anthropologist Temperance "Bones" Brennan, respectively. But while this duo were the core of the series, no TV show can last a full 12 seasons without some support from other cast members. In the case of "Bones," the Fox procedural was undergirded by a wide array of supporting characters and guest stars who helped to give the series its enduring appeal. Alongside the team of "squints" at the fictional Jeffersonian Institute Medico-Legal Lab — the idea for which was brought to the show by a real detective — there was an array of guest stars who helped expand the "Bones" universe, many of whom became fan-favorites.

Just take Patricia Belcher, who played U.S. Attorney's office federal prosecutor Caroline Julian. She remains the only "Bones" guest star to appear in every season of the series from 2005-2017. First...

‘Rita’ Movie Ending Explained & True Story: What Happens To The Angels?
Image
Jayro Bustamante’s creative choice to tell a very real, utterly horrifying story by infusing magic realism into it may seem odd at first. But Rita’s subject matter would’ve been too disturbing to translate on screen had it not been enveloped by that fairytale factor. Hell, it might even have proved way too much for the young girls who star in Bustamante’s film about a Guatemalan tragedy, especially considering that most of these girls were debuting with this film. Rita is a harrowing reminder of what happened to the children in Virgen de la Asuncion, a state-run safe house that was supposed to be a sanctuary for kids who had no one outside.

Spoiler Alert

What happens in the film?

Growing up in a household with a father who molested her and a mother who turned a blind eye didn’t leave much space for Rita to still believe in happy endings.

I Hope Star Trek Gives Uhura's Actor Her Crossover Wish
Image
I hope Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' Celia Rose Gooding gets her wish for Ensign Nyota Uhura to meet Star Trek: Discovery's Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green). Star Trek: Discovery has concluded its fifth and final season, wrapping up the stories of Captain Burnham and the USS Discovery. Meanwhile, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 is in post-production for an expected 2025 premiere on Paramount+. Unless there's a big surprise, Strange New Worlds season 3 has no crossover with Burnham or Star Trek: Discovery, but could Burnham meet Uhura in Strange New Worlds season 4 or beyond?

Celia Rose Gooding inherited the role of a younger Uhura originated by Nichelle Nichols in Star Trek: The Original Series. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has given Uhura more agency and character depth than Tos or J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movies, where Zoe Saldana played Uhura. The Help Ending Explained
Image
Minny's retaliation protects the book's anonymity from Hilly but shows white power dynamics in Jackson. Skeeter's reluctance to leave exposes her privilege and fears for Aibileen and Minny's safety. The ambiguous movie ending highlights the white savior complex and lack of agency for Black characters.

When it comes to bittersweet movie endings, The Help ending stands out - especially after seeing a young Mae (Emma and Eleanor Henry) bang against the window crying as Aibileen (Viola Davis) leaves. Released in 2011 (and based on the novel of the same name by Kathryn Stockett), The Help sees aspiring writer Skeeter (Emma Stone), a white woman living in Jackson, Mississippi, conspire with two Black domestic workers, Aibileen and Minny (Octavia Spencer), to expose the racism Black housekeepers experience from white families. Some of the families Skeeter, Minny, and Aibileen work together to write about are Skeeter's own friends.

Skeeter anonymously publishes a book called The Help,...

Netflix's Scariest Movies
Image
Netflix has become a go-to service for horror fans, thanks to the success of Wednesday, Stranger Things, and the various series from Mike Flanagan. In addition to TV shows, it carries a ton of horror movies, but with such a surplus of content, it's hard to choose what to watch especially for someone looking for quality. Since Netflix's site catalog changes often, it's easy to miss available movies before the company removes them.

Netflix's current offer of horror films covers many different subgenres. From witches to evil scientists, Netflix has some of the best horror movies ever made. These options are great for those who are seeking a truly thrilling time. The only problem will be trying to sleep with the lights off after watching them.

Updated on July 25, 2024, by Robert Vaux: Since Netflix updates its catalog often, this list has been updated to keep up with this streaming site.

Uhura & Kirk's Strange New Worlds Episode Was Harder Than Star Treks Musical For Celia Rose Gooding
Image
Celia Rose Gooding found the horror-themed episode "Lost in Translation" emotionally challenging. Gooding had to put aside her own fears to portray Uhura's vulnerability and trauma. Director Dan Liu helped Gooding navigate the emotional demands of the episode.

One Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episode was "harder" for Celia Rose Gooding than Star Trek's first-ever musical. Despite the extra rehearsal required, Strange New Worlds' musical, "Subspace Rhapsody," was in the Grammy Award-winning Celia Rose Gooding's wheelhouse. But another Strange New Worlds season 2 outing challenged Gooding emotionally and pushed her - as well as her character, Ensign Nyota Uhura - to their limits.

In an interview with Awards Radar about Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, where Celia Rose Gooding spoke in detail about how filming the horror-themed Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 6, "Lost in Translation", was "uncomfortable, but necessarily uncomfortable" because it showed both Gooding and Uhura at their "most vulnerable.

Jessica Lange: ‘I’ve Never Really Felt Like I Belong Anywhere’ — Certainly Not Hollywood
Image
Jessica Lange plays the type of women you best keep your guard up around. Step carefully, or she could hurt you with a turn of phrase so gutting because it locates all your insecurities. But that’s also because these women are broken, too, and played with the rare cocktail of vulnerability, resolve, and brio that the two-time Oscar winner is known for on stage and screen.

In Paula Vogel’s (“How I Learned to Drive”) “Mother Play,” a “play in five evictions” now on Broadway as part of Second Stage Theater, Lange is Phyllis, a hardheaded, chain-smoking, martini-swilling matriarch and — oh, when hasn’t Lange played a hardheaded, chain-smoking, martini-swilling matriarch, or at least a complicated woman with a gamut of dependency and emotional issues? Stage roles in Tennessee Williams’ “The Glass Menagerie” or “A Streetcar Named Desire,” and Eugene O’Neill’s “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” put...

Jessica Lange on Returning to Broadway in ‘Mother Play’: “It Still Thrills Me”
Image
Paula Vogel’s Mother Play is Jessica Lange’s fourth Broadway show, among the many other film and television projects that have populated her decades-long career.

But unlike her past roles, in which she has put her own spin on well-known characters, such as Mary Tryone in Long Day’s Journey Into Night, she had a chance to do something different with this play: originate a part in a new piece of theater.

“I wasn’t nervous. I just honestly had no idea what to expect,” Lange said. “It was a great unknown to me.”

In the play, Lange takes on the role of Phyllis, mom to Carl, played by Jim Parsons, and Martha played by Celia Keenan-Bolger. The story, which is loosely based on the playwright’s own family life, follows the family through several decades, and several apartments, as Phyllis, a aesthetics-focused, gin-swilling force, grapples with her circumstances as a single mom,...

Gh Spoilers: Could Sasha Have A Secret Quartermaine Connection She Is Not Aware Of?
Lisa LoCicero
General Hospital (Gh) spoilers tease that the Quartermaine family was shocked that Olivia Falconeri (Lisa LoCicero) hired Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) as the new cook for the family,

This seems odd for several reasons. First Sasha was once involved romantically with Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell), who is a member of the family and lives in boathouse with his wife.

In addition, until a couple weeks ago, Sasha has made no mention of her history of cooking or that she worked professionally at a restaurant previously. Her ability to cook appears to have manifested out of thin air.

General Hospital Spoilers – Sasha Gilmore Has Quite A Colorful Past In Port Charles.

When Sasha first came to town, she was hired by Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) to pretend to be Nina Reeves’ (Cynthia Watros) long lost daughter. She’s been through a lot since the ruse was discovered and has paid...
