Rajesh Khanna: Without him 75 years’ celebration of cinema would be incomplete

The year was 1986. Rajesh Khanna was no more the phenomenon but the aura that he had created for himself through the songs that he had crooned on the silver screen was manifest on a screen made out of sacks on which were sewed tattered white sheets. The location- Chakia, a hinterland about 80 kms from Varanasi as the crow flies. The film shown was Raaz in a village godown. His songs were rewinded umpteen number of times, the spool could not withstand the pressure, and the film did not reach its logical end. However, nobody complained, as the fans were enthralled in Rajesh Khanna’s magic.

Were he to be alive today he would have been 82 years of age; his physical self may not be there, but his magic continues to swoon the audiences.

Singer Narendra Chanchal passes away at 80

Singer Narendra Chanchal, who redefined popular devotional singing in India, is no more. According to reports, Narendra Chanchal died on Friday in the city. He was 80.

Celebrities like Anup Jalota, Daler Mehndi and Madhur Bhandarkar have paid tributes to the late singer.

Chanchal shot to fame with his 'Jagran' hits in the seventies and the eighties, particularly songs dedicated to Sherawali Mata. His ode to Sherawali Mata "Chalo bulava aaya hai" continues to be popular till date. Chanchal is best known for his live performances.

The singer also made a mark in Bollywood. He is known for rendering the title song of the 1974 Amitabh Bachchan film "Benaam", composed by Rd Burman. He also famously sang "Beshak mandir masjid todo" in Raj Kapoor's 1973 superhit "Bobby", starring Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia.

The Indian Wedding, destination and lifestyle show – Ardhanginni made its grand debut in London in Mid July. The three day event showcased a range of some of India’s bespoke services currently involved in the Indian wedding and lifestyle market.

The exhibition conceptualized by Ms Cicelia Raj and promoted by Sterling Media displayed services available in bridal designs, fashion, home, interiors, tourism, food, astrology and beauty.

It was during this event that I spent some time talking to Ravish Kapoor, owner and creator of innovative invitation company named – Ravish Kapoor.

A prominent name in the card design industry who recently shot to fame after designing wedding cards for both husband and wife Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty. Based in Delhi Kapoor heads the workshop alongside design head John Connolly, with designs showcased in show rooms in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Los Angeles.
