This Controversial Batman Animated Movie Kickstarted A New Era For DC
Image
Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's 1988 graphic novel "Batman: The Killing Joke" is a legendary entry in the Batman canon that has influenced countless interpretations of the Dark Knight. Not only did it add major elements to Batman lore, including the shooting of Barbara Gordon and what is now widely accepted as the Joker's origin, it influenced even more popular depictions of the Batman mythos. Director Tim Burton cited "The Killing Joke" as a big inspiration for 1989's "Batman," even going so far as to claim Moore's graphic novel was the first comic book he ever really loved. Later, Christopher Nolan borrowed major elements from the story for "The Dark Knight," most notably Joker's hazy past and unreliable narration whereby we never truly know if the villain is recounting his origin story accurately or not.

This is to say nothing of the way in which "The Killing Joke," alongside seminal...

The actress behind Angel from the greater Lilo & Stitch franchise expressed her hopes to reprise her role in the revamped live-action story. With Lilo & Stitch on its way to being one of 2025's biggest movies, a sequel is almost inevitable, leading to questions about which characters and actors could make their presence felt in the future.

Tara Strong, the voice actress for Angel in Lilo & Stitch: The Series, shared her hopes to return to the role in a sequel to 2025's live-action Lilo & Stitch. While Angel has only had a handful of appearances alongside Stitch and other aliens in this animated saga, a moment from the live-action remake opened the door for Strong to make a comeback.

This Overlooked Batman Animated Movie Pitted Him Against Jack The Ripper
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Where Marvel Comics has "What If...?", DC Comics has Elseworlds, which takes DC heroes and reimagines them in different time periods, different genres, etc. In Elseworlds, the Justice League can become cowboys, Superman can be raised in the Soviet Union, and Batman can fight Dracula.

Elseworlds goes back to 1989 and kicked off with "Batman: Gotham By Gaslight." Written by Brian Augustyn and drawn by Mike Mignola, "Gotham By Gaslight" throws the Dark Knight back 100 years, revealing what would happen if Bruce Wayne was Batman in the 1880s. Among other things, it turns out, he'd battle Jack the Ripper rather than Jack Napier.

The comic opens with a letter titled "From Hell," which was authored for the book by Robert Bloch and named for the letter the real Jack the Ripper sent to the chairman of the Whitechapel Vigilance Committee. This...

Red X: The True Identity Of The Teen Titans Character, Explained
Image
"Teen Titans" is one of the best and most celebrated superhero animated shows ever made, one that, alongside "Avatar: The Last Airbender," helped change kids' shows forever with its anime-inspired look and engagement with subjects like disability and racism. It had character arcs that developed throughout each season, fantastic animation, and a tone that balanced lightheartedness with moments of gravitas and character drama. Plus, in essence, it was a show about teenagers. This last part is important, because the change from very episodic storytelling of the (still masterful) Bruce Timm shows like "Batman: The Animated Series" or "Justice League" to adding more serialized elements and character development paved the way for darker, edgier shows like "Young Justice."

Inspired by '80s storylines by Marv Wolfman and the late, great George Pérez, "Teen Titans" follows Robin (Scot Menville), the capable leader of the group; Starfire (Hynden Walch), an alien princess from...

'Powerpuff Girls' Live-Action Reboot Trailer Leaks Online
Image
Live-action adaptations of beloved animated shows are becoming another hot commodity, following the success of shows like Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender and Cowboy Bebop. The CW was also looking to capitalize on that popularity with a live-action adaptation of Cartoon Network's beloved The Powerpuff Girls. However, any attempts at transforming sugar, spice, and everything nice into live-action were halted in 2023 when the show was officially canceled. Two years later, a trailer for the CW's canceled Powerpuff Girls show has leaked online...and it's probably a good thing it was axed.

The new trailer, which comes to us via a post on Reddit, reveals the drastic changes made to the original show in the CW's version. The new series planned to age-up Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles into young adults who quit being superheroes after accidentally killing Mojo. Blossom ran away, Buttercup became a firefighter, and Bubbles became an...

The First Live-Action Harley Quinn Was Played By A Twin Peaks Star In A Forgotten TV Pilot
Image
The Batman villain Harley Quinn made her debut on the "Batman: The Animated Series" episodes "Joker's Favor", where she was voiced by actress Arleen Sorkin. The character was envisioned as a clown-like moll for the Joker, and was given a ditzy personality and a broad Noo Yawk accent. She proved to be so popular that she was eventually incorporated into Batman comic books, and soon grew to have titles of her own. Over the years, Harley Quinn has appeared in multiple TV shows and movies, most recently played in live-action by Lady Gaga in "Joker: Folie à Deux."

Fun trivia: Harley Quinn was actually preceded by a very, very similar character called Prank (Corinne Bohrer), a clown-like moll to a very Joker-like villain named the Trickster (Mark Hamill) on a 1991 episode of "The Flash." Whether or not the makers of "Batman: The Animated Series" were aware of Prank is a matter of speculation.

How an Iconic Nickelodeon Villain Tormented Its Showrunners
Image
Nickelodeon probably didn’t expect its 1991 toddler-centric adventure show to become a cultural touchstone. Yet, Rugratshas done just that. The now-classic Klasky-Csupo cartoon instant crawled into people’s hearts and earned itself plenty of accolades. It also has the prestigious distinction of being one of Nickelodeon’s three debut Nicktoons.

Its network reign spanned thirteen years, stretching from 1991 to 2004. During that time, Rugrats’ animators and production crew created an astounding 172 episodes (or 327 segments) across nine seasons. Its original run also spanned three feature films and the tween-focused All Grown Up spin-off. More recently, it also received a CGI-animated reboot series. However, no masterpiece is without its quirks. Despite the show’s iconic cast, beloved characters, and widely praised storylines, the first few seasons were plagued by a persistent problem: Angelica Pickles.

Rugrats and Angelica Pickles Gabor Csupo, Arlene Klasky, and Paul Germain began planning Rugrats in 1989. Rugrats’ unique style was...

'Captain America: Brave New World' Producer Reveals Why 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's Young Avenger Was Cut
Image
Captain America: Brave New World is the fourth entry in the Captain America film franchise and a follow-up to the 2021 Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Many elements from that series are returning for Captain America: Brave New World, including Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, a Black veteran of the Korean War who was given the super soldier serum after Steve Rogers, and has his contribution to history all but erased until Sam Wilson restores it. Living with Isaiah was his grandson Eli, played by Elijah Richardson. Comic fans know Eli as the character Patriot, a founding member of the Young Avengers.

However, it appears that Elijah Richardson does not return for Captain America: Brave New World as Eli Bradley; in fact, Eli Bradley is absent from the film entirely. Speaking with Screen Rant, Marvel producer Nate Moore explained that early drafts of the script featured Eli Bradley.

Loki's Miss Minutes Returns to Celebrate Young Avengers Debut in New Marvel Video
Image
It's a big Marvel anniversary, and Loki's Miss Minutes is taking comic readers on a trip down memory lane.

Marvel released a new animated video celebrating the Young Avengers' 20th anniversary, with the sentient Tva symbol (voiced again by Tara Strong) serving as narrator as she recaps the first comic's issue and team debut. Created in the wake of Avengers Disassembled, this original team consisted of Wiccan, Patriot, Hulkling, and Iron Lad, though Kate Bishop and Cassie Lang would later join their team as brand new heroes. The group's actions put them on the radar of J. Jonah Jameson, who recruits Jessica Jones to investigate them and who, in turn, partners up with Iron Man and Captain America to halt the heroes' unsupervised actions. However, a confrontation with the classic Avengers leads to Iron Lad unveiling his true identity: Nathaniel Richards, a future version of Avengers villain Kang the Conqueror's younger self.

Batman Fought Dracula In Two Movies You'll Probably Never See
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Who's your favorite Batman villain? Most will say the Joker, some might say Catwoman or Bane, but there's options galore. Did you know, though, that within Batman's expansive rogues gallery also lies the original Bat-man? Yes, Count Dracula has appeared in three Batman movies — but you can only watch one of them.

This isn't as out-there a pairing as it looks. Batman mostly fights other freaks in costumes -- from clowns to cats, to scarecrows, to rejected quiz show hosts -- but some of the Dark Knight's nemeses are downright supernatural. Take Ra's al Ghul, the Demon's Head, who has stayed young and fit for 700 years with the help of the magical Lazarus Pit, a functional Fountain of Youth.

A handful of Batman comics — Peter Milligan's "Dark Knight, Dark City," Grant Morrison's "Batman" epic, and...

Today's a Frustrating Day for Teen Titans Go! Fans
Image
Teen Titans Go! may have its fans, but Max seemingly isn't one of them. The streamer got a head start on spring cleaning by kicking off 2025 with a content purge.

Per ComicBook.com, Max has removed the first seven seasons of Teen Titans Go! from its platform. Additionally, the original Teen Titans series which aired for five seasons and 65 episodes from 2003 to 2006 is no longer available to stream. The only silver lining is that Season 8 of Teen Titans Go! is still accessible to fans on Max. The eighth (and current) season of the fan-favorite DC animated series premiered in October 2022 and aired its most recent episode, the two-part "Four Hundred," on Nov. 30, 2024.

Jodi Benson Considered 'The Little Mermaid 2' a "Full Circle" Moment for Her as a Mother
Image
Rarely does Disney give a glimpse into the future of its iconic princesses beyond their respective movies, but one in particular remains an exception to the rule — Ariel from The Little Mermaid. After her first journey under the sea was such a big success, the House of Mouse created a direct-to-video follow-up in 2000 titled The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea that depicted her as a mother with a young daughter named Melody who longs for the sea despite her parents' warnings. The film saw the return of Jodi Benson to her iconic role as Ariel, with another prolific voice actress, Tara Strong, joining her as Melody. For Benson, it proved to be more meaningful than just another project singing along as the former mermaid though, instead serving as the right movie at the right time amid her step into motherhood.

10 Best Villains From ‘The Powerpuff Girls,’ Ranked
Image
Created by Craig McCracken and released in 1998, The Powerpuff Girls was one of Cartoon Network's original series, also known as a "Cartoon Cartoon". It followed a trio of young girls named Blossom (Cathy Cavadini), Bubbles (Tara Strong), and Buttercup (E. G. Daily), who used incredible superpowers to defend the city of Townsville from near-constant threats. Thanks to its simple but stylistic art style, impeccable voice acting, and homage to superhero stories, the show became one of the most popular Cartoon Cartoons. It even got a reboot in 2014 with a very mixed reception.

Scream: What Ghostface's Voice Actor Looks Like In Real Life
Image
If there's one thing a slasher movie franchise needs, it's an instantly recognizable slasher. "Halloween" has Michael Myers, "A Nightmare on Elm Street" has Freddy Krueger (inseparable from actor Robert Englund), "Friday the 13th" has Jason Voorhees, and "Scream" has Ghostface. Unlike the other slashers, though, Ghostface is a mantle, not a single person.

The original "Scream" was a murder mystery, with Ghostface unmasked and killed at the film's end. Each sequel has continued the trend: a new person slips on the ghoulish white mask, full body black cloak, and starts stabbing people in Sidney Prescott's (Neve Campbell) orbit. While each Ghostface killer has naturally been played by a different actor, the disguised voice is the same in every movie, provided by voice actor Roger L. Jackson. Get a look at the voice behind the mask courtesy of this video from Jamie Kennedy (who played Randy Meeks in "Scream").

'Teen Titans' Star Tara Strong Gives Update on Series Return: "We All Want to Do Season 6 Too"
Image
It's been nearly two decades since Teen Titans Season 5 concluded on a heartbreaking cliffhanger, but fans are still hungry to see the story's resolution. Since 2013, the series' comedic spin-off Teen Titans Go! has been dominating the airwaves on Cartoon Network and providing fans with plenty of laughs. Still, the loose threads of the original animated series remain. According to prolific actress Tara Strong — who voiced Raven in the original Teen Titans and continues to do so in Teen Titans Go! — a sixth season is still something the cast would love to explore.

... we all want to do Season 6 too, and personally, as well as the rest of the Titans, we're like, 'Let's do both, because they're two different shows.' There's no reason why we can't give the fans this well deserved ending to this pivotal story arc that we sort of left everybody hanging at.

"Maybe We 'Roger Rabbit' That Stuff" – Tara Strong Previews What Could Be Next for 'Teen Titans Go!'
Image
Teen Titans Go! has just debuted its 400th episode and is celebrating becoming the longest-running DC animated series of all time. We recently got the opportunity to sit down and talk with Raven voice actress Tara Strong, who reflected on the long journey to this point and shared some thoughts on the series' future.

At this point, Teen Titans Go! looks like it could go on forever. As Tara Strong jokes, "... in our minds, we're gonna get to episode 10,000." Sure, the actress is only kidding, but she still thinks about what episode 500 might look like. Strong speculated: "Maybe there's an on-camera mix. Maybe we Roger Rabbit that stuff, you know?" She continued, "I'll suit up. Everybody will suit up. Everybody."

"It's Insane": Tara Strong Talks 'Teen Titans Go!' Becoming DC's Longest-Running Animated Series
Image
Teen Titans Go! might not be the first series that comes to mind when most comic book fans are asked to name the longest-running DC animated series of all time — a point brought up in the recently aired and hilariously meta 400th episode — but it currently is. The wacky series' longevity is a testament to its always-hilarious writing and performances, as well as its dedicated fandom, according to Raven voice actress Tara Strong, who graciously sat down to chat with us in the lead-up to the show's incredible milestone.

It's insane. Literally, the longest running animated DC series, which, when you think about it, is cuckoo.

The 10 Best Green-Haired Characters In Movies & TV Ranked
Image
Green hair may be a more unusual hair color for movie and TV show characters, but there are still plenty of memorable people who sport the bright and fun style. Blonde actresses are considered the classic Hollywood starlet, black hair on men is for action heroes, rebellious teens often get pink or red, and silver now signifies a character may have some Targaryen ancestry: most hair colors have a corresponding meaning or signal something about the characters who sport them.

Green hair is a little different and doesn't seem to actually mean anything specific, meaning any type of character can sport it. It can look gross, like a sickly pale color associated with being "green in the face", or it can look very healthy, like lush, green vegetation growing out of someone's head. Sometimes it's for counter-cultural characters, and other times, straight-laced characters have green hair. Whenever it's used, it's immediately noticeable as an unusual,...

Scooby-Doo Star Matthew Lillard Shares Blunt Opinion of the Velma Series
Image
The Scooby-Doo franchise marked its 55th anniversary this September, and it's genuinely hard to keep track with all the different TV series, specials, and movies (both theatrical and mostly direct-to-video or for TV). Despite all of that and more than half a century of media, only two actors have canonically played Shaggy, the delightfully raspy Bff of the titlular Great Dane. First came the legendary DJ Casey Kasem, who voiced the character for something like 372 episodes of television and 14 made-for-tv movies. Then there was Matthew Lillard, who first joined the franchise in the form of star-studded live-action movies before becoming the voice actor behind Shaggy for approximately 27 direct-to-video movies, eight TV specials, and 156 TV episodes. There is technically one more Shaggy out there...

The adult animated series Velma takes the intellectual property of Scooby-Doo and completely reworks it in ways that fans of the franchise have absolutely hated. Fortunately,...
