- M.A.S.H. for us was a show that all of a sudden replaced constant one-liners with character comedy. All of the humor came out of the characters. You had men in a very difficult situation, and they were insane because they were in an insane situation. It's really a brilliant concept. Yes, it was based on a movie, but I thought that Larry Gelbart took it a step further, making it accessible on a week-to-week basis, which is a very difficult thing to do.
