“If He Really Wanted To Kill John Wick…”: Why Winston Shoots John In John Wick 3 Gets New, Detailed Explanation From Producer
Image
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum producer Basil Iwanyk shares a new explanation about why Winston shoots John at the end of the movie. Directed by franchise veteran Chad Stahelski, the third installment in the hit franchise sees Keanu Reeves return as Wick to fend off an army of assassins after the High Table places a bounty on his head. The John Wick 3 ending memorably features Wick seemingly emerging victorious before Winston (Ian McShane), in a bid to regain control of his Continental hotel, shoots John off a rooftop.

In a new interview with The Direct, Iwanyk, who produced all four films in the franchise, breaks down Winston's decision during the final moments of John Wick 3. The producer provides a more overarching explanation, which includes the general ethos for all characters in the John Wick assassin universe, but also dives deep into the Winston and John dynamic and...

The Martial Arts Action Flop You Didn't Realize Keanu Reeves Directed
Image
Keanu Reeves may be one of the most beloved movie stars currently working, beloved more for his real-life personality and well-documented generosity than he is for his range as an actor. Reeves has a talent for playing taciturn action heroes and comic foils but tends to flounder when asked to play richer, more sophisticated characters. Compare his hilarious turn in "Always Be My Maybe," or his impressive physical performances in the "John Wick" movies to, say, "Bram Stoker's Dracula" wherein he struggles to keep his British accent.

Moreso than his acting, though, Reeves seems to be loved for being a fathomlessly decent human being. He runs his own leukemia charity. When he caught people trespassing on his property, he invited them in for drinks. He famously gives expensive gifts to the crewmates on many of his movies, like Rolex watches for the "John Wick" crew, or motorcycles for the stunt...

The narrative itself revolves around Tiger Chen Lin-Hu (Tiger Chen), a Tai Chi disciple who gets hit hard by life. As a result, hes forced to depart from the discipline he cultivated for years to dip his toe in the underground world of deadly fighting rings.

Quick Links What Drove Keanu Reeves to Direct Man of Tai Chi? The Man of Tai Chi Is No Ordinary Martial Arts Film Man of Tai Chi Is Perfect For Any Fan of Martial Arts Films

Ever since the first chapter in the John Wick film franchise premiered in 2014 and rebounded the career of Keanu Reeves after a series of commercial failures, the actor has been experiencing quite a renaissance that no other actor seems to have before. Since then, he's been just about everywhere and has done just about everything. He's since been the face of multiple internet memes, reprised his iconic roles from the Bill and Ted and The Matrix franchises, co-wrote the popular Brzrkr comic series, and has even become quite experienced in the realm of voice acting with such roles in films as Toy Story 4 and DC's League of Super-Pets. Before any of that, however,...

‘Agent 86,’ Unusual China-Tunisia Action Film, Heads for Theatrical Release (Exclusive)
Image
“Agent 86,” a rare China-Tunisia coproduction film, will have its world premiere on Friday in Tunisia, ahead of a commercial release in Tunisian theaters from Sept. 25.

The film is pitched as “a fast-paced action thriller following an international Special Task Force that comes together to fight cross border drug trafficking after a devastatingly addictive drug named Devil’s Breath goes on sale in Hong Kong.”

The driving force behind the movie is Tunisian actor-director Bassem Khayati, who produced and directed the film and also appears as its co-lead.

Khayati is a veteran of several Jackie Chan movies including “Dragon Blade,” “Kung Fu Yoga” and “Vanguard,” as well as action roles in numerous other Chinese titles including “Fox Hunting,” “Mojin, The Lost Legend” and “Go Away Mr. Tumor.” In the west, Khayati has had various action and stunt roles in the John Cena-starring “Hidden Strike,” the Scott Adkins-starring “Abduction” and...

Keanu Reeves' 10 Coolest Lines In The John Wick Movies
Image
John Wick lets his actions speak for him. His silence adds to his mysterious and captivating persona. The John Wick franchise has plenty of great quotes, but not many of them come from the main man. The John Wick franchise hangs on Keanu Reeves' portrayal of the ice-cold protagonist.

Keanu Reeves lets his fists do most of the talking in the John Wick movies, but he still has a few unforgettable quotes. John is a man of few words, which makes him a more mysterious character. The John Wick movies still have lots of great dialogue, but other characters tend to speak more than John. When he does decide to find his voice, it's almost always worth remembering.

John Wick is the embodiment of a silent antihero. He knows that actions speak louder than words, and he's powerful enough that he never needs to babble on. John has a captivating aura,...

10 Great Movies To Watch Before Expendables 4
Image
The Expendables movies are known for their star-studded casts and non-stop action, making them an appealing choice for fans of the genre. While certain actors may be missing from the cast of The Expendables 4, there are still many exciting actors, such as Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, and Megan Fox, who have joined the franchise. Other movies like "Triple Threat," "Hobbs & Shaw," and "Escape Plan" offer similar action-packed experiences and can be enjoyable to watch before the release of The Expendables 4.

The Expendables 4 is out Sept. 22, 2023, and it has a typically stacked cast of action heroes, so there are tons of great movies from the stars to check out until the release. The big appeal of the Expendables movies is their unfathomably huge all-star casts, along with the non-stop action. Donnie Yen's Brilliant Expendables Idea Must Still Happen
Image
Donnie Yen once had a cool take on The Expendables and it really needs to happen. Yen is a legend of martial arts cinema, from Once Upon a Time in China II to Hero or the Ip Man movies. Sadly, his early experiences with Hollywood yielded disappointing results; he was tragically wasted in Blade 2 and proved to be one of the few reasons to watch 2000's Highlander: Endgame. Thankfully, recent years have seen American studios giving him worthy roles, with John Wick: Chapter 4's Caine easily being his best English-language project to date.

The Expendables movie franchise was formed with the mission brief of uniting some of the biggest action stars in the world. While it pulled in an impressive number of icons - including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jet Li and Harrison Ford - it missed some big names too. Yen was a near-miss, as he was once set...

John Wick: Every Kind of Martial Arts Used In The Series (So Far)
Image
Since the first movie debuted in 2014, John Wick's fighting style has become the core focus of the franchise. Indeed, the series elaborate and intricate action scenes are key to why Keanu Reeves' John Wick has become a phenomenon, with John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum raising audience expectations even higher for John Wick 4. Directed by stunt veterans Chad Stahelski and David Leitch (with Stahelski directing solo from John Wick: Chapter 2 on), the John Wick series blends gun fu with martial arts, inspired by similarly high-octane action classics like Equilibrium, The Matrix, and John Woo's entire filmography.

In turn, John Wick's martial arts style has inspired the likes of Atomic Blonde and Nobody, ensuring that gun fu continues on. John Wick also has many real martial artists onboard for choreographing fights. Mark Dacascos, Roger Yuan, and Tiger Chen are just a handful of those who have brought their skills to the John Wick franchise,...

Brzrkr: Keanu Reeves may direct movie based on comic of his own creation
Image
Collider reports that Reeves may be set for his sophomore directing effort. The project also happens to be based on a comic book of his own creation titled Brzrkr. This comic was realized with great success from a Kickstarter campaign and was able to be published in 2021. It had garnered positive reactions from both critics and comic fans. The series sported an epic, cinematic tale featuring a warrior bearing Reeves’ likeness, fighting his way through different eras in history. It’s like John Wick meets Ted Theodore Logan.

Netflix had announced that they would be adapting Brzrkr into both a feature film and an animated series. There are currently no details on the animated series, but the movie already has some activity as screenwriter, Matt Tomlin, has already completed a script. Reeves hasn’t yet decided if he will be directing it, but he is considering this option if he likes the script.

Growing up action movies were, for me, second only to horror flicks as my go to genre. I used to scour the pages of Impact for news on the latest films and then pre-order the VHS at my local video shop – because yes, back in the day you could actually pre-order a video rental and I Always had to be first to rent my most-anticipated flicks! I mention this only because it was back in that era that the action movie star was king. Starting out with the likes of Stallone and Schwarzenegger, the VHS era gave birth to a myriad of action movie superstars: guys like Jean-Claude Van Damme,...

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum Review
John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum is a gunsmoke hazy, bloody-knuckle ruthless, impossibly badass Wickian continuation. Every offered and foreseeable ass is proficiently kicked. Or karate chopped. Or headshot combo’d. Or shotgun blasted into oblivion. Or attack dog mauled. Or body-slammed through glass. Or swordplay carved. Or pulverized. Or…you catch my drift. Director Chad Stahelski and writer Derek Kolstad are three films into their action spectacle franchise, and each has raised the last’s ante. More of the same? Yeah, I’m thinking John’s back…again.

John Wick (Keanu Reeves) finds himself “Excommunicado” on the streets of New York City after killing Santino D’Antonio on Continental grounds. All card-holding rights revoked, blacklisted by Continental employees, and $14 million placed on his head. Can someone with Wick’s assassination skills survive against waves of contract killers hungry for his bounty? Especially while still recovering from his John Wick: Chapter 2 injuries?...

‘Triple Threat’: A Stacked Cast Of Martial Arts Action Superstars Are Woefully Misused In This Mediocre Shoot ‘Em Up [Review]

Triple Threat Trailer Shows Tony Jaa and Iko Uwais Fighting (Exclusive)
David Crow Feb 14, 2019

Watch an exclusive trailer for Triple Threat, a new martial arts movie that puts Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, and Scott Adkins onscreen together.

Forget The Expendables. The team you want to be on is the one in which Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Scott Adkins, and more are throwing high-flying fisticuffs. That is certainly the very amusing appeal of Triple Threat, a new VOD and limited release cinematic event that brings some of 21st century cinema’s best martial artists together for an action movie spectacle.

The film, which is directed by Jesse V. Johnson (a former stuntman on films like Thor and The Amazing Spider-Man) is about a group of mercenaries going head to head with a group of assassins. May the best roundhouse kick win. The synopsis is below:

“A down-and-out team of mercenaries must take on a group of professional assassins and stop them before...

First John Wick 3: Parabellum Footage Arrives, Trailer Coming Thursday
Lionsgate has released a new teaser for John Wick 3: Parabellum, which brings with it the promise of a full-length trailer reveal this Thursday. Keanu Reeves started his journey as this legendary and formidable assassin five years ago with the first John Wick, a movie that managed to sneak up on seemingly everyone. Now, we're going to see Mr. Wick literally fighting for his life in the upcoming third installment, with our first real look at that fight coming our way in just a couple of short days.

As for this teaser, it doesn't give us all that much. We see some quick cuts of well-armed masses gearing up to try and get the very massive contract that's been put on John Wick's head. We see the man himself running through the streets of New York City, literally trying to get away with his life after being excommunicated from the assassin's order,...

In this third installment of the adrenaline-fueled action franchise, super-assassin John Wick (Reeves) returns with a $14 million price tag on his head and an army of bounty-hunting killers on his trail. New John Wick 3 Photo Unites Winston and the Bowery King
A brand new photo from John Wick Chapter 3 has made its way online. Production is currently underway on the finale to the John Wick trilogy, which will once again see Keanu Reeves racking up a high body count in (hopefully) glorious fashion. A new official photo from John Wick: Chapter 3 has been released which doesn't actually feature the titular assassin. However, it does include a couple of his close known associates who are going to be coming face to face in the upcoming installment, as it turns out.

The photo features Ian McShane's Winston, who has been a part of the series from the very beginning, standing alongside Laurence Fishburne's Bowery King on a rooftop. Fishburne's character was introduced to us in John Wick: Chapter 2 and played a crucial part in the assassin's last adventure. He and Winston never actually met during the events of the sequel,...

Keanu Reeves has revealed the official title for John Wick 3. The first entry in the franchise was simply titled John Wick, with the sequel going with the title of John Wick: Chapter 2. With that, it was assumed that the third movie in the trilogy would follow suit and be subtitled Chapter 3. That's not the case, as Keanu Reeves has revealed that the official title for next year's finale is titled John Wick 3: Parabellum.

While it may not seem like much, this title is actually pretty revealing. During a recent interview, Keanu Reeves not only made the title reveal, but he also explained a bit of the meaning behind it. In keeping with the tradition of the John Wick franchise, it is undeniably awesome and a bit ominous. Here's what Reeves had to say about Parabellum and what it actually means.

"Prepare for war. It's part of that famous sentence,...

Triple Threat features one hell of a kick ass cast - mainly action superstars Tony Jaa and Iko Uwais teaming up, along with more action stars: Michael Jai White, Scott Adkins, Celina Jade, Michael Bisping, Selina Lo, JeeJa Yanin, Ron Smoorenburg, and Tiger Hu Chen. Not that the plot matters much with this cast, but it's about a team of mercenaries who must take on a group of professional assassins and stop them before they kill an important woman. This looks like it'll be badass. Here's the very first teaser trailer for Jesse V. Johnson's Triple Threat, direct from YouTube: A hit contract is taken out on a...

In which the headline says it all and I don't need to write anything else... Okay, well, that's not quite true. Only a few days after announcing they accquired the North American rights, WellGo USA has dropped a teaser to what is no doubt going to be a hotly anticipated title for 2018. Directed by stunt veteran Jesse V. Johnson and co-starring Michael Jai White, Celina Jade and Jeeja Yanin, Triple Threat looks to hit the spot for those in need of some raw martial arts action. You know a movie is so confident in its awesomeness that when the trailer hits it doesn’t even bother to hint at a story, and instead shows its three badass leading stars delivering beat-down after beat-down. John Wick 3: Release Date, Trailer, Cast, Poster, and More News
Joseph Baxter Apr 25, 2019

Keanu Reeves is suiting up again for John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, which marks a deadly May release date.

John Wick: Chapter 3 was about as inevitable of an action sequel as inevitable action sequels get (which is pretty gosh darn inevitable). Off the back of the success of the Keanu Reeves-headlined surprise 2014 hit, John Wick, and its equally crimson-soaked sequel, John Wick: Chapter 2, and even a mooted spinoff television project in The Continental, plans quickly moved forward to get cameras rolling for the third film in the series in time for a May 2019 arrival.

The threequel brandishes the nifty title, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. For those of you who didn't take Latin, "parabellum" means "prepare for war." It's typically the second half of the saying, "Si vis pacem, para bellum," or "If you want peace, prepare for war." Fitting, no?

The film is directed by Chad Stahelski,...

The 24 hottest projects at this year's Hong Kong Filmart
Jing Wong
There is a thrilling selection of Chinese-language titles at Filmart this year. Liz Shackleton picks out some of the most promising.

With very few Hong Kong or mainland Chinese sellers making the journey to this year’s European Film Market in Berlin, Filmart offers a chance for buyers to catch up with the Chinese-language titles that will be rolled out in the region for the rest of the year.

After serving up the biggest film of the Chinese New Year holiday — Kung Fu Yoga, starring Jackie Chan and directed by Stanley Tong — China’s Sparkle Roll Media has launched a Hong Kong-based sales arm that is selling Ding Sheng’s reboot of the A Better Tomorrow series.

Other high-profile action titles new to market include Distribution Workshop’s Extraordinary Mission, from the creative teams behind the Infernal Affairs and Overheard series, and Huayi Brothers’ crime drama Explosion, starring Duan Yihong.

‘Headshot’ Review: ‘The Raid’ Star Iko Uwais Stars in Another Brutally Exhausting Bloodbath
Sunny Pang, Julie Estelle, Zack Lee, Iko Uwais, Very Tri Yulisman, Chelsea Islan, and David Hendrawan in Headshot (2016)
Everything you need to know about “Headshot,” an Indonesian bloodbath that stars the same actor from “The Raid” and feels like it was cut together from that film’s deleted footage, can be gleaned from an early fight scene aboard a public bus that’s just been shot to pieces by a gang of vicious criminals.

Our hero, an amnesiac ass-kicker named Ishmael (Iko Uwais), doesn’t remember that he used to be a member of the same syndicate that he’s now trying to kill, hops on board and promptly begins to snap ligaments and gouge eyeballs. Directors Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto make spectacular use of the confined area, and — as with all of the many, many death matches that are stretched across this saga — the sequence continues for so long that you forget how the characters actually got there.

So when Ishmael eventually tackles one of the...

‘The Raid’ Remake: Joe Carnahan and Frank Grillo Reveal Big Changes for Their Adaptation
The Raid: Redemption (2011)
Recently Joe Carnahan and Frank Grillo announced that they will be teaming up to produce an American remake of the hit Indonesian action film “The Raid,” and now the two have followed up that announcement with an interview with Collider. The two specifically spoke about how their project will be more of a reimagining of the source material, and will make significant changes to the story and style to the original film. All of these changes have the approval of the original film’s director, Gareth Evans, who is producing the film, and told Carnahan and Grillo after extensively discussing their project: “Go make your version. I want to see your version.”

Keanu Reeves in John Wick (2014)
‘John Wick’ Director Chad Stahelski Planning a Prequel TV Series
Keanu Reeves in John Wick (2014)
Upon its release, “John Wick” became a critical and commercial success, earning $78 million worldwide. Its sequel, “John Wick: Chapter 2,” to be released in theaters this February, sees the return of Keanu Reeves as the legendary hitman and promises to be an even bigger adventure.

As Mr. Wick’s story continues forward, director Chad Stahelski and screenwriter Derek Kolstad have already explored the character’s backstory and life before the first film. The duo have even written bits of a prequel to possibly make it into a TV series.

Speaking with Stahelski, the director told SlashFilm that they’ve wanted to make a prequel but “it just didn’t fit quite” where they’re at. “We basically almost have a prequel written, but we’d save that for other aspects of the property,” he explained, adding that...

Keanu Reeves in John Wick (2014)
‘Highlander’ Reboot in the Works With ‘John Wick’ Director Chad Stahelski
Keanu Reeves in John Wick (2014)
The 1986 fantasy film “Highlander” is getting the Hollywood reboot treatment with “John Wick’s” Chad Stahelski set to direct for Lionsgate.

The remake has been in the works since 2008 and previously had Justin Lin, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Cedric Nicolas-Troyan attached to direct, with Stahelski now officially taking the lead.

“I’ve been a huge fan of the original property since I saw it in high school,” Stahelski told The Hollywood Reporter, who reported the news first. “Such great themes of immortality, love, and identity are all wrapped up in such colorful mythology. I can’t think of a better property that gives the opportunity to create interesting characters, mythic themes and action set pieces.”

The film will be produced by Neal H. Moritz and Peter Davis. The studio is currently looking for a writer to pen the script.

Newswire: John Wick director teams up with 3 huge Asian action stars for Triple Threat
Escapist entertainment is suddenly at least three times as important as it was a few days ago. So, it’s comforting to hear that Chad Stahelski (John Wick) will direct all the high-octane action for three of Asia’s biggest stars for an as-yet-untitled project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Thailand’s Tony Jaa (Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior), China’s Tiger Hu Chen (Man Of Tai Chi), and Indonesia’s Iko Uwais (The Raid: Redemption) have all signed on for the Kungfuman Culture Media and Hamilton Entertainment production.

Scripted by Dwayne Smith, and co-directed by Stahelski and Wang Xiaolie, Triple Threat will follow the experiences of a Chinese martial artist who travels into Mexico to save his ex-wife and their son from a drug cartel. This should not be confused with Gary Mak’s planned Makeshift Squad, a sort of Asian Expendables which also stars Jaa, Chen, and Uwais. Or...

Tony Jaa, Tiger Chen and Iko Uwais: Deadly Trio for ‘Triple Threat’
Tony Jaa (Ong Bak), Tiger Chen (Man of Taichi) and Iko Uwais (The Raid) has signed up to work on a new movie written by Dwayne Smith.

‘Triple Threat’ tells a story of a “Chinese martial artist who goes to Mexico to rescue his ex-wife and their son after they are kidnapped by a drug cartel.” Details about the movie is scant, but with a deadly trio and a storyline like that, we know it will be mind blowing!

The movie will be directed by Wang Xiaolie and produced by Kungfuman Culture Media and Hamilton Entertainment. Earlier reports of Chad Stahelski (John Wick franchise) co-directing the film appears to be incorrect, with Stahelski publicist saying that the action director will only be assisting with the film’s action design.

‘Triple Threat’ is currently being presented by Arclight Films to industry buyers at the American Film Market 2016 conferences in Santa Monica.

Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, and Tiger Chen Will Be a Triple Threat For John Wick Director
If you're a fan of kick-ass martial arts movies, you already know who those three actors are in the headline. But in case you aren't, and maybe you're just curious about what John Wick co-director (and John Wick: Chapter 2 solo director) Chad Stahelski might be up to next, allow me to introduce you to three of the baddest mofos on the planet. Before we get to the intros, let's get to the good stuff: THR reports that these guys will be joining forces in a movie called Triple Threat. The script, written by Dwayne Smith, "revolves around a Chinese martial artist who goes to Mexico to rescue his ex-wife and their son after they are kidnapped by a drug cartel." Wang Xiaolie is set to co-direct the movie with Stahelski.

Why is this cool news? Because the stars are insanely awesome. Tony Jaa is the star of Thai action...

Tony Jaa, Tiger Chen, and Iko Uwais to star together in Triple Threat
My love of The Raid and Iko Uwais' role in it has been well-documented on the site before. But I never got a chance to talk about my love of Tony Jaa (of Ong Bak fame) or Tiger Chen (star of the Keanu Reeves-directed Man Of Tai Chi) yet. Now's my chance! And yeah, those guys f*cking rule too. Anyway, they're all apparently going to star together in a film called (naturally) Triple... Read More...

Director Chad Stahelski Rallies A Triple Threat With Iko Uwais, Tony Jaa And Tiger Chen
After orchestrating one of the most refreshing action movies in years, John Wick co-directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch largely went their separate ways. Rather than shepherd the 2017 sequel, the latter made tracks to The Coldest City, the Charlize Theron-fronted thriller that’s booked in for late next year. He’s also cropped up in conversation for the vacant Deadpool 2 gig, if reports are to be believed.

Stahelski, on the other hand, is busy putting the final touches to John Wick: Chapter 2 ahead of its planned release in February, but The Hollywood Reporter brings word today of a new project that is just as exciting as the Keanu Reeves-led sequel.

It’s called Triple Threat, and has already enlisted a formidable trio of action stalwarts: Tony Jaa (Ong Bak), Tiger Chen (Man of Taichi) and Iko Uwais (The Raid). News hails from this year’s American Film Market,...
