Apparently, The Rookie Season 8 Won’t Czech Its Bailey Problem — Why is She in Prague?
Image
Another season of The Rookie, another pesky Bailey issue, and yeah, another piece where I’m complaining about it.

Surely, you’ll let me know if I’m being too hard on this woman in the comments.

But alas, I cannot help it. The Rookie has this frustrating way of shoehorning Bailey into everything, and it’s hard to ignore!

(Disney/Mike Taing)

Sdcc was a glorious affair, where news of many of our favorite series filtered in, and the stars looked lovely. The upcoming television lineup sounds promising!

We learned that there’s an exciting series of things coming up when The Rookie returns in the winter.

The Rookie Explains Why This Major Character Still Hasn't Been Replaced
Image
After six years and lots of wondering, The Rookie showrunner finally revealed why the role of Captain Andersen still hasn't been filled. ScreenRant's Rachel Foertsch attended the panel for The Rookie at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, where, during the audience Q&a portion of the panel, showrunner Alexi Hawley explained why no character has stepped up or in to replace Captain Andersen.

As Hawley explained, after Andersen's death, it felt very hard to replace the venerated and well-respected Captain Zoe Andersen. Thus, unless an episode specifically requires the narrative to incorporate a character who holds the rank of captain, it's something the show simply hasn't chosen to focus on, even as The Rookie season 8 heads our way.

What Captain Andersen Not Being Replaced Means For The Rookie It's Symbolically Fitting

It's a fitting tribute, in a very meta way, that The Rookie has never officially filled the role of Captain Andersen.

The Rookie's Perfect Crossover Event Just Got Shot Down By Alexi Hawley
Image
The Rookie'slongtime showrunner Alexi Hawley shared that a crossover event fans have been hopeful about won't be in the cards for the ABC series. Throughout The Rookie's run on ABC, viewers have been hopeful that a crossover event between some of the network's other successful procedurals could be possible. With the show's LA location, one fellow procedural seemed like a perfect fit.

ScreenRant's Rachel Foertch attended The Rookie's San Diego Comic Con panel, featuring Hawley and Nathan Fillion, and learned that a crossover between The Rookie and fan-favorite 9-1-1 isn't likely. Alexi explained that introducing characters from either series into the same world wouldn't work in the long-run, as they'd consistently run into each other. Sadly, fans of both shows won't see the universes meld.

Though many have been hopeful that The Rookie and 9-1-1 would intersect in some way since the Ryan Murphy series...

James Gunn expresses gratitude for Superman’s warm reception by promoting kindness above division in a heartfelt message to fans
Image
James Gunn’s Superman is flying rings around the box office with a worldwide debut of $217 million, giving the Blue Boy Scout a reason to smile all the way to the Metropolis Bank. The film’s tremendous success comes after months of speculation and online smear campaigns. However, the proof is in Ma Kent’s Blue Ribbon-winning pudding pie, as the movie boasts an A-rating on CinemaScore, and tickets continue to sell like hotcakes.

On Sunday, James Gunn posted a thank-you message to fans, expressing gratitude for their support and willingness to give his vision of the Man of Steel an honest shot.

“I’m incredibly grateful for your enthusiasm and kind words over the past few days,” Gunn wrote on Threads. “We’ve had a lot of ‘Super’ in ‘Superman’ over the years, and I’m happy to have made a movie that focuses on the ‘man’ part of...

Peter Safran at an event for Blue Beetle (2023)
James Gunn considering TV spin-offs for Superman characters Mister Terrific and Jimmy Olsen
Peter Safran at an event for Blue Beetle (2023)
DC Studios heads Peter Safran and James Gunn are launching a new cinematic universe with Superman, which Gunn has written and directed – and things are off to a strong start, as the movie already pulled in $21 million from its Thursday previews. Chapter One of the DC Universe, Gods and Monsters, officially got started with season 1 of the animated series Creature Commandos back in December, but Superman is the first film in the universe. Peacemaker season 2, which premieres in August, is also part of the Dcu. Other upcoming entries include the film Supergirl, which reaches theatres in June of 2026, the film Clayface, which reaches theatres in September of 2026, and the HBO series Lanterns. Now, The Wall Street Journal has revealed that the universe could continue to expand with TV shows that center on characters who are introduced in Superman. Specifically, they mention that “a knowledgeable person” told them Gunn is considering...

As Superman Hits Theaters, James Gunn Is Reportedly Eyeing at Least Two TV Spinoffs
Image
At least two characters from James Gunn’s Superman — which is now in theaters and officially launches the film side of the new Dcu — are being eyed to headline TV spinoffs.

The Superman movie stars David Corenswet (of TV’s The Politician and Lady in the Lake) as the titular Kal-El aka Daily Planet reporter Clark Kent, while Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) plays Daily Planet journo Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult (The Great) fills the role of supervillain Lex Luthor.

David Corenswet in Superman (2025)
Superman: David Corenswet tried to think of reasons to turn down the role
David Corenswet in Superman (2025)
Playing an iconic character like Superman, and dealing with all the baggage and public scrutiny that comes with it, isn’t for everyone. Even David Corenswet, who stars in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman, admitted to GQ that he wrestled with the decision and tried to come up with reasons to say no.

“A role like Superman seems like something that everybody would want, and that’s not true. There are some people who wouldn’t want that role and who would, if given the opportunity, say no. I am obviously not one of those people. But I certainly tried to think of reasons not to,” Corenswet said. “Ultimately, what I landed on for myself was, if this is the only role I get to play for the rest of my life, and that means whether I get to play it once or get to play it 10 times, would I still say yes?...

Booked & Busy: Scott Speedman’s New Role Won’t Seal His Grey’s Anatomy Fate, but Should It?
Image
It’s quite apparent that the TV industry is wildly unpredictable and rocky even in its best days.

I’m still unsure if its even if its best days right now, as the uncertainty of it all impacts everyone from crew just trying to keep jobs and earn money and cast members attempting to keep their heads above water and stay booked to viewers, only facing the final products (when we get them) and increasingly underwhelmed and frustrated.

So learning that someone as esteemed as Scott Speedman will be headlining his own series and still guest-starring on Grey’s Anatomy has me hyped.

(Disney/Nino Muñoz) Scott Speedman May Save ABC Primetime with New Role (Thank God!)

For one, if Shawn Hatosy hasn’t taught us anything this year, it pays, quite literally, to be booked and busy all season long.

New The Rookie Set Video Spoils Why Nolan & The Team Are In Europe In Season 8
Image
A new video from The Rookieseason 8 reveals the reason why Nolan, Bailey, and the team are in Europe. With filming underway on season 8, Jenna Dewan shared photos and videos on her Instagram page that revealed part of the show's cast and crew are filming in Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic.

It marks the first time that the police procedural is filming overseas. And even though The Rookie season 8 won't be back on ABC until sometime next year, we might have a better sense of what John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and Bailey Nune (Dewan) are doing abroad in the first place.

In a TikTok from justmimi__, the fan shares her excitement about meeting Fillion in Prague. But a closer look at what's happening in the background reveals that John and Bailey are with the recurring antagonist Monica Stevens (played by Bridget Regan), and they could be arresting her.

James Gunn reveals why he cast David Corenswet as Superman instead of Nicholas Hoult
Jonathan Bailey, Scarlett Johansson, and Mahershala Ali in Jurassic World: Rebirth (2025)
While this weekend at the box office belongs to Jurassic World Rebirth, the next two-day respite from work (for most) belongs to the Man of Steel in the red trunks, Superman! James Gunn’s highly anticipated superhero film flies into theaters on July 11, giving the Dcu a fresh start after years of Zack Snyder-directed sequels, subpar solo films, and outliers that deserved better – I’m looking at you, Blue Beetle, Birds of Prey, and The Suicide Squad. Leaping tall buildings in a single bound for Superman is David Corenswet. However, there’s an Elseworlds scenario in which Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor) suited up as Big Blue, but James Gunn wanted a particular chemistry for his latest DC film.

During an interview on Jake’s Takes, Gunn spoke about choosing the right person to play Superman, saying, “A lot of time casting is finding the right person for the right role,...

James Gunn explains why he chose David Corenswet over Nicholas Hoult for the role of Superman
James Gunn
We’re days away from the big blue boy scout flying back into theaters for a new reimagining, courtesy of James Gunn’s new Dcu. David Corenswet fills the shoes of the most famous superhero this time around, but it’s been public knowledge that Lex Luthor actor Nicholas Hoult originally tried out for the role of Superman. According to Variety, James Gunn recently appeared on Jake’s Takes and explained why he made the choice of Corenswet over Hoult for the last son of Krypton.

Gunn said,

A lot of time casting is finding the right person for the right role. Most people [auditioning for Superman] weren’t doing anything wrong, they just didn’t fit how I envisioned this Superman to be. Nicholas Hoult auditioned. He’s a great actor. Some might say he’s better than David in certain ways, but he just didn’t fit the role. That’s...

James Gunn teases when we’ll see Superman again after the movie
David Corenswet in SUPER/MAN: THE CHRISTOPHER REEVE STORY IS POWERFUL!! MOVIE REVIEW! (2024)
A little over a week from now, the Superman movie will debut in theaters, marking our first real look at the new DC Universe in action. With plenty of other DC projects in the works, the question remains: when will we next see the Man of Steel?

During an interview with Phase Hero, James Gunn was asked that very question. “A couple of years,” Gunn responded, before quickly adding, “Well, no, you might see him… you’ll see him before then.” Gunn asked if the interviewer meant “the character” or David Corenswet, saying, “Yeah, you’ll see the character before then.“

Fans have theorized that this means our next glimpse of Superman could arrive in one of DC’s upcoming animated shows, or perhaps as a faceless Superman cameo in another project. Maybe even just a brief glimpse of Superman flying across the sky. Place your bets!

The Rookie Spinoff Gets A Title & Major Progress Update
Image
The next spinoff of The Rookiegets a big update from creator and showrunner Alexi Hawley. It was reported this past December that a new spinoff of The Rookie was being developed by ABC, 20th Television, and Lionsgate Television. The second spinoff of the police procedural, after the cancellation of The Rookie: Feds, is from franchise creator Alexi Hawley.

Deadlinereports that the spinoff's title is The Rookie North. The reporting comes in the context of breaking down ABC's pilots, which includes the upcoming Scrubs revival. In the case of The Rookie North, it's noted that “a handful of known actors” in their 40s-50s have been approached for the lead role.

What To Know About The Rookie Spinoff It Will Follow The Original

The Rookie North is described as a “formidable prospect” to get picked up. It hails from Hawley, who executive produces alongside The Rookie's Nathan Fillion, Bill Norcross,...

James Gunn says Adria Arjona would be a great Wonder Woman
David Thewlis, Saïd Taghmaoui, and Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman (2017)
Now that a Wonder Woman movie is in the early stages of development at DC Studios, it’s only a matter of time before a new actress is cast as the Amazonian warrior. One of the favourite contenders for the role among fans is Adria Arjona (Andor), and DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn recently said she’d make a “great Wonder Woman.“

In an interview with Extra, Gunn was asked whether fans should read into any of his social media follows of popular actresses, and what that might mean for her chances of being the next Wonder Woman. “50%,” Gunn joked, before bringing up Adria Arjona as an example.

“I follow Adria on Instagram but everybody came out [and said], ‘He just followed her, that means she’s Wonder Woman,’” Gunn said. “She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way.“

Gunn continued, “She was in a movie that I made seven years ago.

James Gunn shares a new look at Ultraman for DC’s upcoming Superman film
James Gunn
You might want to stay off the internet for the next two weeks to avoid spoilers for James Gunn’s Superman. DC Studios, and by extension, Gunn, are going hard in the paint to promote the upcoming superhero film, and some fans are beginning to get upset. On Tuesday afternoon, James Gunn shared a new look at Ultraman, an evil alternate-universe counterpart of Superman and the leader of the Crime Syndicate, to social media, effectively ruining the character’s reveal for some.

Interestingly, Gunn’s Ultraman looks unlike his comic book counterpart. The character is covered in beige-colored armor and wears goggles over his eyes. Ultraman looks more like a Star Wars villain than an evil version of Superman, but it’s just a singular image. It could be David Corenswet beneath the armor, his identity revealed to the Man of Steel later in the film. We’ll need to wait to find out.

Netflix's Latest 'Yellowstone' Copy Met with Rotten Tomatoes Rating Much Lower Than Taylor Sheridan's Saga
Image
Another day, another Yellowstone knockoff. Netflix’s new drama The Waterfront arrived this week looking like it had just walked off the set of Ozark, borrowed Yellowstone’s boots, and tried to convince us it had invented both. But while Taylor Sheridan’s Montana-set megahit earned its 83% Rotten Tomatoes score the old-fashioned way — by building a richly textured world over five bloody seasons — The Waterfront debuted with a much murkier 67%, and critics are already calling it out for what it is: Netflix by numbers.

Created by Scream and Dawson’s Creek scribe Kevin Williamson, The Waterfront follows the Buckley family, owners of a North Carolina fishery with a long history of shady side hustles. But despite the pedigree and a stacked cast led by Holt McCallany (The Iron Claw), Maria Bello (Beef), Melissa Benoist (Supergirl), Brady Hepner (The Black Phone), Jake Weary (Trigger Warning), Rafael L. Silva (9-1-1:...

James Gunn says he cut a scene from Superman after it was mocked online
James Gunn
Not everything has been super leading up to the release of James Gunn’s Superman. When DC Studios unleashed the first teaser for the Last Son of Krypton’s latest silver-screen adventure, online audiences couldn’t stop talking about a sequence featuring Supes in flight. Instead of people flocking to their keyboards to celebrate the hero speeding like a bullet through a snowy tundra, they viciously mocked the look on David Corenswet’s face as he performed a daring barrel roll that would make Starfox’s Peppy Hare beam with pride. In no time, countless memes of Corenswet with googly eyes began circulating online, tarnishing the launch of an otherwise exciting marketing campaign. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn says he cut the controversial scene from the film’s final cut, and he’s not looking back.

“The part of him flying, it was a photograph of his face and him flying.

James Gunn says they’ve talked about a Marvel/DC crossover a billion times and it can easily happen
Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, and Dave Bautista in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
It seems like the perfect bridge from Marvel to DC is now here as Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, who has had a long, good-natured history with the company (pre-Vol. 3 controversy notwithstanding), is now the co-head of DC Studios over at the parent company of Warner Bros. Gunn talked with Rolling Stone in preparation for the release of Superman and the writer/director says a crossover with the two rival brands is nowhere near impossible.

When the interviewer pointed out that a Superman/Spider-Man comic from the 70s is sitting near them on the table, they asked Gunn if something like that could happen ten years down the line. Gunn responds,

We’ve talked about it a billion times. That could easily happen, but simultaneous to that, I think it would be interesting. But I also think people are a little over it. I think people wanna...

Superman and Happy Gilmore 2 receive their ratings from the MPA
James Gunn
Big franchise releases are just around the corner for the summer movie season and two anticipated films for fans are the reboot to the most famous superhero of all-time and the sequel to one of the most beloved comedies ever made. Superman has been confirmed by James Gunn himself to have a runtime of 2 hours and 9 minutes and debunked the rumor that Warner Bros. interfered with his cut. According to Gunn, referring to the rumor, “Zero truth to that. And they couldn’t even if that’s something that they wanted to. It’s a DC Studios film.”

The MPA just released their new ratings bulletin and one thing they are confirming that Gunn doesn’t have to is the rating according to the content in the new DC Universe debut. It can easily be predicted, but Superman has been Rated PG-13 “for violence, action and language.”

James Gunn
Superman‘s runtime became a topic of conversation when an erroneous previous report was announced and a source claimed that the James Gunn film was to be 122 minutes. It’s almost totally locked – meaning we’re just finishing a couple VFX shots over the weekend – but that’s not the running time.” Straight from Gunn’s mouth, Superman‘s runtime will not be 2 hours and 2 minutes, but he has now confirmed the film’s runtime, according to Deadline.

As a filmmaker who often addresses fans online, Gunn was asked on Threads if it was true that Superman would be 2 hours and 9 minutes. Gunn responded definitively,

The Rookie Star's Underrated 15-Year-Old Horror Survival Film Is Streaming for Free
Image
Frozen's stripped-down story revolves around three friends stranded on a ski lift. The plot is simple and effective, and it features one of the most relatable final girls in film.

Tubi is now streaming Frozen, one of the 2010s' most underrated horror films. Starring Shawn Ashmore (The Rookie), Emma Bell (Final Destination 5), and Kevin Zegers (Wrong Turn), Frozen is a gritty psychological thriller; its slow-burn tension reportedly caused audience members to faint during its 2010 Sundance premiere. The film imagined what it's like to be trapped on a ski lift for two nights, which is every skier's worst nightmare.

Frozen's sequences were so visceral because they were all shot on location, and the harsh weather was the actors' primary motivation. "The whole movie was shot practically, which means not on a soundstage or green screen, [Ashmore, Bell, and Zegers] always really up there," director Adam Green revealed (per LAist). "They probably spent about four hours before break,...

The Man of Steel learns that actions have consequences in the most epic trailer yet for James Gunn’s Superman
Image
When people think of superheroics, they focus on the lives saved, order maintained, and justice upheld. However, there’s another side to flying into foreign territory and laying waste to your oppressors. In the latest trailer for DC Studios‘ Superman, the Man of Steel faces the consequences of his actions, learning the hard way that saving the day isn’t as easy as rescuing bystanders, knocking out monsters, and causing untold amounts of structural damage.

In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor, and heart, delivering a Superman driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind. Many versions of the Man of Steel exist across screens, large and small. Still, Gunn’s version thrives on optimism during a time when much appears bleak. It’s a refreshing take on...

ABC sets fall 2025 primetime schedule (Photo Credits: ABC)

ABC’s fall 2025 primetime lineup looks a lot like its 2024 fall schedule. The network’s coming off a season where it claimed all five of the top spots against its competition in the coveted adults 18 to 49 demographic. High Potential took the #1 spot, followed by Abbott Elementary, The Rookie, 9-1-1, and Shifting Gears.

“ABC dominated this season in multiplatform ratings, which are the most relevant metrics that reflect how audiences are consuming television today,” said Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group. “We are meeting viewers where they are, and this achievement really highlights our strategic approach and commitment to creative excellence. Looking ahead, we’re all about maintaining stability, delivering quality, and driving innovation, with new shows and returning favorites from some of the industry’s top creators and biggest stars.”

The Rookie Season 7 Episode 17 Is Entertaining, But It Doesn’t Set Up the Finale
Image
As far as penultimate episodes of the season go, The Rookie Season 7 Episode 17 was solid enough.

The hour worked as a standard installment of The Rookie, even if it didn’t exactly set up what we should anticipate as the season concludes.

But that’s been what most of the season has felt like, right?

(Disney/Mike Taing) The Penultimate Episode Doesn’t Really Set Up Anything

If it wasn’t for the fact that we’re checking the episode count and the ending promo teased the season finale, it would’ve been easy to forget that the finale was right around the corner.

Nothing about this installment gave the impression that it was laying any groundwork for what was to come.

Yes, Will Trent and The Rookie are new on ABC tonight (but there's a catch)
Image
Will Trent and The Rookie are ABC staples. These procedural dramas are riding high on the heels of recent season renewals, and they will be treating fans to brand new episodes on Tuesday, April 29. It may be confusing to those, however, who turn on the TV to watch the shows during their usual time slot. Things are going to be a little different tonight.

On Tuesday morning, ABC announced that it would airing a special primetime interview with President Donald Trump in honor of his first 100 days in office. The special will be subtitled The Interview in the Oval Office, and be conducted by ABC News Senior national correspondent Terry Moran.

Superman Sneak Peek: Krypto is a Very Good Boy
Image
If you take away nothing else from the Superman sneak peek, at least appreciate that Krypto acts like every other dog would when their owner’s lying on the ground. The nearly five-minute video shows Krypto jumping all over an injured Superman and then dragging him into the Fortress of Solitude. The sneak peek also shows a little Superman and Lois Lane action, a few snippets of Lex Luthor, and robots healing the critically injured superhero.

David Corenswet (Twisters) leads the cast as Superman / Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) plays Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult (Nosferatu) stars as Lex Luthor. Edi Gathegi (For All Mankind) plays Mr. Terrific, Isabela Merced (Alien Romulus) is Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion (The Rookie) is Guy Gardner / Green Lantern, Skyler Gisondo (Licorice Pizza) is Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio (At Midnight) is Eve Teschmacher, María Gabriela de Faría (The Moodys) is Angela Spica / The Engineer,...

HBO's Lanterns casts The Rookie star (and what this could mean for the ABC dramedy)
Image
A major The Rookie star is going to be in HBO’s Lanterns, so what does that mean for the ABC hit?

The Rookie has become one of ABC’s biggest hits and a lot of that rests on its leading man. Nathan Fillion had been bouncing around television for years in minor roles and short-lived series. He rose to fame playing Mal Reynolds in the 2002 Fox series Firefly. While the show lasted only 13 episodes, it attained a massive cult following.

After a stint on Desperate Housewives, Fillion got a huge hit with the ABC mystery series Castle, which ran eight seasons. He then returned on The Rookie as John Nolan, the former architect who joins the LAPD as a 40-something rookie cop.

The show has been a major success with a short-lived spinoff and Fillion balancing other TV and movie roles. However, a significant challenge is coming as Fillion...

‘Dead Talents Society’ Review – An Instant Horror Comedy Classic
Image
In the cold open for Dead Talents Society, the new film by director John Hsu (2019’s Detention), a young woman enters hotel room 414. Bizarre events quickly add up, including a whole wall that is suddenly plastered with glamour pictures of a woman. Then the closet door creeps open and the woman from the picture emerges. She slowly begins walking backwards down the hall before going into a bone-cracking back bend, scurrying on all fours towards her terrified victim.

Before the scare can even sink in, the action pauses, revealing that this is footage being played on a supernatural talk show. The scary woman is revealed to be Catherine (Sandrine Pinna), arguably the most famous ghost in the world thanks to her incredibly effective urban legend. The talk show is made for and run by dead people, who compose a whole other world: a “scare the living” world of entertainment with its own rules and hierarchy.

The Rookie Season 7, Episode 11 Review: A Familiar Villain In a Great Story
Image
Quick LinksThe Rookie Successfully Goes Over theTop With Its Action StorylineThe Rookie Brings Back an Old Villain to Resume Their StoryThe Rookie Brings the Return of Chenford One Step CloserThe Rookie's Last New Officer Has a Bigger Problem

The following contains spoilers for The RookieSeason 7, Episode 11, "Speed," which debuted Tuesday, March 25 on ABC.

The Rookie Season 7, Episode 11, "Speed," makes clear what it's about. Just like the famed Keanu Reeves movie, there's a bus, a bomb and no stopping for anything. Keanu even gets a name-check during the episode. The plan in the ABC drama isn't as neat as the one in the movie, but it does bring back a villain fans of the series have been waiting all season to see.

The episode cleverly ties into the central premise of the series, too. Celina Juarez is sent onto the bus with John Nolan, her former training officer, because the mayor...

‘Dead Talents Society’ Movie Ending Explained & Summary: What Does The Final Scene Suggest?
Image
Netflix’s Dead Talents Society is a Taiwanese horror comedy centered around the daily struggles of ghosts whose afterlives are far from easy. The Rookie was a newly deceased young girl who tried to make sense of the afterlife with her best friend Camilla. The duo were often referred to as the ‘small-timers’ because they lacked the talent to scare humans. They survived on the offerings made by their families, and they preferred staying out of the limelight. But things took a turn when The Rookie suddenly started to glitch. As it turned out, if the families of the ghost got rid of any of their prized possessions, then the ghost had only a month before they completely disappeared. The certificate of ‘Hard Work’ was The Rookie’s most cherished belonging, and her sister had accidentally thrown it away along with other recyclable items. This resulted in the glitch, and...

“He was the first name that jumped into my mind”: Not Eric Winter, The Rookie Showrunner Instantly Knew the One Actor He Had to Bring to the Show
Image
The Rookie has risen to the ranks of being one of the most sought-after police procedural shows out there. While the thrill and suspense of the series are highly appreciated, it also boasts a stellar ensemble with actor Nathan Fillion leading the way.

He plays John Nolan in The Rookie, and his name was being considered for this role when the show was in its earliest stages of development.

While he may be the oldest rookie in the LAPD, choosing the actor to play the part was a no-brainer for showrunner Alexi Hawley. Also, given his decades-long acting career and projects, he did complete justice to the role, gaining a huge fan following.

For Alexi Hawley, Nathan Fillion was the perfect choice for The Rookie

The Rookie Season 7 Episode 11 Reintroduces A Big Player, But What’s Their Nefarious Plan?
Image
We know some of these dangling loose ends would eventually come into play.

In true fashion for this series, The Rookie Season 7 Episode 11 marked the return of Monica, and she’s no longer this redheaded mastermind in the wind plotting from afar without our knowledge.

She’s planning something big and forcing people to work for her under duress to wreak havoc.

(Disney/Mike Taing) The Rookie Had Fun Playing Homage to Speed

The hour played homage to one of my all-time favorite movies: Speed.

Sure, it had its cheesy moments throughout, but it was a fun watch for the most part. While there were some anti-climatic moments in the entire bomb hostage event, the payoff was related to Tully and Monica.

The hour allowed all of The Rookie’s ladies to be badass, and isn’t that what we love most about them?

The Rookie lost one of its new rookies (but will he be the new big bad?)
Image
The Rookie just fired one of its newest cops, but could this create a new foe for Chen and the team?

Caution: This article contains Spoilers for The Rookie Season 7 Episode 10

Throughout Season 7 of The Rookie, Chen (Melissa O'Neill) has had her issues with her new rookie patrolman, Seth Ridley (Patrick Keleher). At first, he seemed like a nice guy wanting to do well, maybe rather green but well-meaning. He shared he was driven by the death of a girlfriend from a drug overdose, and Chen felt for the guy, especially when he revealed he was recovering from cancer.

However, Chen became suspicious Ridley wasn't quite on the up and up. It started when she heard him tell a different story about his girlfriend's death, with him claiming he had two girlfriends meeting sudden ends. She then checked with one of his teachers to discover neither woman was his girlfriend,...

The Rookie, Season 7, Episode 10 Buries a Big Moment Fans Waited For
Image
Quick LinksThe Daddy Cop Singer Returns, and Rookie Seth Ridley Is Finally DismissedThe 'Chaos Agent' Episode Embraces Its Title With a Packed EpisodeThe Episode Missed Opportunities to Highlight the Characters' Relationships in Better Ways

The following contains spoilers for The Rookie, Season 7, Episode 10, "Chaos Agent," which debuted on ABC March 18, 2025, and is streaming on Hulu.

Things on The Rookieare getting back to normal after a character was almost killed, but "normal" for this series is a relative term. The title, "Chaos Agent" is indicative of the storytelling in the episode, which suggests it was intentional. However, some big character moments may have gotten lost in the shuffle of the many problems driving the drama.

One thing about The Rookie when compared to other police procedurals is that the series often mixes overt humor with heavy emotional stories. Sometimes, this recipe results in the kind of episodes that make this series stand out from its peers.

“The lengths that were taken to… Cover Up the Truth”: The Rookie Star Who Attacked ABC for Covering Up On-Set Racial Abuse That Forced Her to Quit

The Rookie is amongst the most loved shows out there. But despite this popularity, it was also surrounded by a major controversy. Nathan Fillion knows the danger of being typecast, but The Rookie helped him dodge a career-killing stereotype. While some actors get stuck in one iconic role, Fillion made sure he didn’t become just that guy from Castle. Instead, he proved his range, keeping his career fresh and unpredictable.

The Rookie Season 7 Episode 9 Review: Mekia Cox Carries An Uneven Hour
Image
Nyla Harper is everything.

If we’re looking at The Rookie Season 7 Episode 9 as a Nyla Harper-centric, Mekia Cox blew it out of the water.

The Rookie is all the better for having this talent and for providing her with content showcasing her range and all she can do.

(Disney/Mike Taing) The Hour Tests Nyla and Nolan’s Friendship

It’s been a great season for Harper, albeit challenging on many fronts. But as a fan-favorite character, it’s been lovely that she has a healthy dose of content this season, and it’s diversified as well.

The hour tries to serve as an ode to her. After putting her through the absolute wringer, she emerges from it as a vulnerable woman who collapses into the arms of her mentee and friend after hearing about how incredible, remarkable, and heroic she is.

Superman director James Gunn shares new photo of The Engineer
Image
Superman director James Gunn took to social media to share a new behind-the-scenes photo of María Gabriela de Faría (Deadly Class) as The Engineer. You can check out the new photo below!

In the caption, Gunn wrote: “Happy Anniversary to the Engineer, created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch, who you can see played to sinister perfection by puppy in human form Gaby de Faria in #Superman this July!“

The behind-the-scenes photo isn’t particularly revealing, but it does give us another look at the Engineer’s costume. The location is the same one we saw in the teaser trailer, in which Superman is battling a different black-suited character. Speaking of that teaser, it became the most viewed and talked about trailer in the history of DC of Warner Bros. when it was viewed over 250 million times in the first 24 hours after its release.

Warner Bros. files motion to dismiss Superman lawsuit threatening foreign release of the James Gunn movie
Image
In January, Warner Bros. found itself at the center of a lawsuit that could potentially block James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie from being released in foreign territories. Mark Peary, nephew of late Superman co-creator Joe Shuster, filed the lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery, DC Studios, and DC Comics, arguing they don’t have the rights to release Superman in many key territories outside the U.S.

As you might expect, Warner Bros. is fighting back. The studio has now filed a motion to dismiss, claiming that courts have already rejected Peary’s claims after his mother, Jean Peavy, signed away all rights after Schuster’s death in 1992. “Peary’s complaint fails on every ground,” said Warner Bros.’ attorney Daniel Petrocelli.

The Rookie Season 7 Episode 8 Review: A Fiery, Action-Packed Hour Delivers a Devastating Cliffhanger!
Image
Listen, The Rookie may take a brief hiatus, to our absolute displeasure, but they made up for it with one hell of an episode!

So much happened on The Rookie Season 7 Episode 9, and it’s hard to keep it all straight. But we have James’ life hanging in the balance, Nolan holding the motherload of all secrets, and Seth being freaking Seth.

The Chenford content was top-tier, Angela/Nyla’s dynamic was Goated, and all of this while wildfires raged on. Let’s get into it!

(Disney/Mike Taing) The Wildfire Serves as Backdrop in Action-Packed Hour

The L.A. wildfires were devastating, and thousands of people are still picking up the pieces.

As a result, The Rookie’s setting an installment around a wildfire was risky.

Of course, it was filmed before, but sometimes, airing things like that so soon after a natural disaster can be insensitive or excessive.
