Rock Band Rivals Hands-On Preview
Harmonix dropped an interesting tidbit of news for Rock Band 4 at E3 last month with the announcement of Rock Band Rivals, the first full-fledged expansion pack for the latest in their iconic rhythm game series. Unfortunately, they didn’t provide details beyond pricing and a revamped guitar controller, with employees later saying they’d ultimately chosen to pull back the curtain after a little more development time.

This is exactly what happened last week, when Harmonix provided me and several others with a presentation in New York City, giving us some hands-on time with Rock Band Rivals. Based on what I saw and played, Rivals looks to give the presentation of the series a real shot in the arm with one of its two new primary modes, and should also increase the game’s longevity with the other one.

The presentation was headed by Harmonix’s Daniel Sussman, who served...

Fake Concerts Are Sweeping Facebook, and It's Kind of Hilarious
Fred Durst
On April 20, Limp Bizkit was supposed to give a concert at a Sunoco in Dayton, Ohio. At least, according to Facebook. "We come all the way from West Milton to see Limp Bizkit. Live action," said fan Randy Ray, just one of the 8,9000 confirmed attendees (on Facebook) who showed up, ultimately just to be disappointed, according to Wrgt. Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst issued a statement on Twitter declaring the concert a hoax, but it didn't stop fans from showing up - many were simply there for the fun of it, although a few were hoping for a last-minute surprise: "Where you at?...

Robin Schulz – Sugar Review
Perhaps today just wasn’t the right day for Robin Schulz to put out a house album. For all intents and purposes, Sugar is a sincere enough collection of four-four dance music – but when it’s measured against the yardstick of Kaskade’s Automatic and Disclosure’s Caracal, both of which also came out today, it comes across as a largely risk-less attempt to reach the widest audience possible while still maintaining some semblance of artistic integrity.

To his credit, Schulz did succeed in making a consistent follow-up effort to 2014’s Prayer. Every track on the album features the stylistically mature marriage between groove and melody that Schulz has developed over the last decade or so. Heavily driven by both instrumentals and lyrics, the songs on Sugar certainly don’t come across as the attempts of a novice producer, and some are even profound in their own right.

Nonetheless, most...

Girl Can’t Hit Correct Notes, Is Very Hard On Herself
Remember in middle school when your friend first got really seriously into guitar? A big group of your friends would be at his house, and suddenly he would just bust out his Fender Squire and play some Save Tonight by Eagle Eye Cherry. But he wasn’t really good at it yet. He still struggled with barring the fret board, so he had a lot of trouble with the F-chord. And he would keep saying, “Wait…” and starting over. “Wait… (strum)… Wait… (strum)… Hold on (strum)… Wait.” This girl you’re about to watch is exactly like that. But with singing. And Also She Is Insane! I hope she is okay. Thanks, World Star Hip Hop.

'Date Night' Video Soundtrack: The Jonas Brothers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs And Common
If the trips to your local cinema have you burned out on effects-fueled spectacles and Tyler Perry, this weekend's slate of new films offers up a welcome respite. Today marks the release of "Date Night," a quirky throwback comedy starring two of the funniest people currently on television: "The Office" star Steve Carell and "30 Rock" creator Tina Fey. They play a couple looking to put a little more spark into their marriage, and in the process end up getting chased through New York City during a wild night of mistaken identity and mistimed encounters. It recalls classic "single night" flicks like Martin Scorsese's "After Hours" and Doug Liman's "Go," and is a refreshing bit of humor from two of the best comedic minds working today.

But even laughter takes preparation, which is why you should prepare yourself for Carell and Fey's madcap antics with the following video playlist.

When Nostalgia Goes Too Far
What with the 1994 period piece The Wackness set to open this weekend, Mary-Kate Olsen's penchant for hosting well-documented flannel parties, and the whiff of My So-Called Life and Eagle Eye Cherry in the air, it should be pretty obvious to all pop culture consumers that we are on the crest of a massive wave of 90s nostalgia. It's been happening for a while, actually. VH1 has already moved on to the aughts—a clear indication that the 90s revival trend is about to trickle down to suburbia, which means that 90s Dance Party will soon replace 80s Nite as the new "fun" weekly event at Tampa's finest strip mall nightclub, and Career Opportunities and Clueless will soon usurp Pretty In Pink as the hilariously dated slumber party movie of choice for teenagers all around the country. All of which is fine. There's nothing...
