‘Desperate Housewives’ Star Calls Out “Cringe” and “Offensive” Storylines You Couldn’t Do Today [Exclusive]
Image
Desperate Housewives remains one of the most iconic — and provocative — TV dramas of the 2000s, and according to James Denton, the show’s boundary-pushing moments weren’t always easy to stomach… even for the cast. Speaking to Collider’s Maggie Lovitt on a panel at FanX's Tampa Bay Comic Convention alongside his Good Witch co-star Catherine Bell, Denton reflected on how creator Marc Cherry and the writing team often danced on the line between satire and discomfort — sometimes going full throttle into material that might not be greenlit today. What do you mean, you don't think people would chain their own children up inside their own homes, or help their sons cover up a hit and run?

“Yes, yes, it was,” Denton said when asked if the show was ahead of its time. “And there were some cringingly uncomfortable [moments] for the actors, but the show knew what they were doing.

Lauralee Bell Talks About Being Cast On ‘The Young And The Restless’ – Exclusive
Image
In the latest episode of “Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart,” Lauralee Bell from “The Young and the Restless” discusses how she landed the role of ingenue Christine Blair on the daytime drama series created by her parents, the late William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell.

“This was never an intention for my family,” says Bell of her joining the show’s cast in an exclusive clip obtained by Soap Opera Network. “My mom wanted me to be a Northwestern Tridelt and go to school. We were living in Chicago, so we were very separated from this … I was a fan, so I would watch, and [my father] would be like, ‘One day you should come and really kind of get a sense of what this is all about.’ I first did an extra part on an airplane with David Hasselhoff [Snapper Foster], and after it was over, I was like,...

Twin Peaks Star Kyle MacLachlan Would Love To Return To This Drama Series
Image
Although Kyle MacLachlan is perhaps best known for his lead role as Agent Dale Cooper in "Twin Peaks" (along with his turns in other David Lynch projects), he also made a strong impression throughout multiple seasons of "Desperate Housewives." The ABC mystery dramedy cast MacLachlan as Orson Hodge, a seemingly perfect second husband for Bree Van de Kamp (Marcia Cross). Of course, Orson's gentle, respectable veneer quickly gave way to something darker and more sinister, but he stayed at least somewhat sympathetic throughout most of the series.

It wasn't until the final season that Orson fully gave in to his darkest impulses, causing most of the show's viewers to finally lose their trust in him. Indeed, after Bree found out about his dark obsession with her, he sent incriminating information concerning her to the police and dipped out of the narrative entirely. The show then ended without ever really...

Deidre Hall Talks Being Cast On ‘Days Of Our Lives,’ Helping Establish The Soap Opera Fan Event Experience
Image
Ahead of the Tuesday, July 15 episode of the “Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart” podcast, CBS released preview clips of the episode featuring “Days of our Lives” star Deidre Hall as a guest.

In the episode, Hall discusses her experience screentesting for the role of Marlena Evans on the Peacock exclusive daytime drama series, recalling that there were several women in the room who were also looking to land the coveted role she has played since making her debut in Salem in 1976, plus how a devoted fan helped establish the in-person fan experience.

“I was screen testing, and they usually try and have people not in the same room, obviously, the actor(s) might be able to see each other or see our screentest, and I happened to see a couple of women, and I thought, ‘Oh, my word. Look who’s testing for this,’” Hall said, recalling the day of her audition.

Felicity Huffman Reacts To Kerry Washington’s ‘Desperate Housewives’ Offshoot
Image
With some new housewives moving onto one of TV’s most famous streets, Felicity Huffman is welcoming them to the neighborhood.

The Oscar nominee, who portrayed Lynette Scavo on ABC‘s Desperate Housewives, recently reacted to news of Kerry Washington‘s Onyx Collective offshoot Wisteria Lane, which Deadline exclusively announced last month.

“Isn’t that great? They’re gonna do Wisteria Lane with women of color, and I am all for it,” she said on Good Morning America, before joking: “I am gonna do craft service for it. But I just think it’s wonderful, and I’m a huge fan of Kerry’s.”

Huffman had no suggestions on who should take over her role as Lynette, an overworked stay-at-home mother of five children who longs for the workplace and eventually struggles cancer during the show’s eight-season run from 2004 to 2012.

“Oh my god, I have no idea,” said Huffman.

Kerry Washington Confirms ‘Wisteria Lane’, Says ‘Desperate Housewives’ Offshoot Will Tackle “New Challenges”

During an appearance on The View Friday for her new movie with Omar Sy Shadow Force, Kerry Washington confirmed Deadline’s exclusive report from earlier this week about Wisteria Lane, a reimagining of the hit ABC mystery dramedy series Desperate Housewives, which is in development at Onyx Collective through Washington‘s Simpson Street production company.

When The View co-host Ana Navarro referred to the project as a “Desperate Housewives remake,” Washington tried to correct her, noting that “it’s inspired” by the popular 2004 series.

“I can’t say too much — it’s very newly announced, it’s in development,” Washington said. “The idea is that it’s new times, there’s new challenges, it’s like — what happens on that cul-de-sac now? It’s really exciting.”

When she was quizzed by Navarro whether Wisteria Lane would feature “new women, old women?,” meaning new or original characters, Washington was coy, shutting...

Kerry Washington To Revive 'Desperate Housewives' With 'Wisteria Lane'
Image
The Desperate Housewives are getting new neighbors. Well, sorta. Marc Cherry's iconic ABC television series is being brought back to life by Kerry Washington and The Flight Attendantshowrunner Natalie Chaidez. Taking place under Disney's Onyx Collective banner, the new series, called Wisteria Lane as a nod to the original show's iconic neighborhood/street, is said to be "a re-imagining" of the old show, which followed the shocking and mysteriously dramatic lives of a handful of families living on the aforementioned street.

The news, first reported by Deadline, comes as no surprise given the ABC series' 20th anniversary back in 2024. Though not involved in this project, the show's continued fandom thanks to streaming — coupled with Cherry's previous comments about wanting to revisit the universe of Wisteria Lane — makes it the exact sort of property to revisit in an era of new social mores but no less drama. But before you get too excited,...

Fortunately, Gaby eventually found a more stable love story, though not without plenty of twists. The on-again, off-again relationships, betrayals, and dramatic reconciliations kept things interesting, but at least there was a sense of continuity.

Desperate Housewives Creator Reveals Why He Envies The Real Housewives Franchise: “A Train That Keeps On Chugging”

Why Is Desperate Housewives Creator Marc Cherry Jealous Of The Real Housewives Franchise? (Photo Credit – Prime Video)

When one hears the name Housewives, only two shows pop into one’s mind: The Real Housewives and Desperate Housewives. It is no secret that the latter came first and became successful, making the word “housewives” itself a household name in television and entertainment terms during the 2000s.

While Desperate Housewives is a fictional comedy-drama series, The Real Housewives has become a reality television franchise. Marc Cherry, the creator of Desperate Housewives, recently spoke about the Bravo show’s capitalization on the housewives term and why he envies the reality series.

Why Does Desperate Housewives Creator Envy The Real Housewives?

‘Desperate Housewives’ Creator Marc Cherry Says He Envies ‘Real Housewives’ Producers: “A Train That Keeps on Chugging”
Image
Desperate Housewives showrunner Marc Cherry knows that Real Housewives may have been inspired by his ABC show, but he isn’t upset about the Bravo franchise’s success.

The writer-producer revealed to People that he understands why the Real Housewives production team developed the show, which premiered in 2006 in Orange County, California, following the success of Desperate Housewives, which ran for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012.

“They didn’t crib my name, to be fair to them,” Cherry said about the Bravo franchise in a story published Thursday. “They just used the word. Our show came out, and they capitalized on that. And you know what? That’s the capitalistic system.”

The showrunner added that people often confuse the two shows because the Real Housewives franchise “continues to be out there,” producing new series and spinoffs. Cherry lists Tommy Tune as one of the celebrities who accidentally swapped the two series in conversation.

‘Desperate Housewives’ Creator Marc Cherry On ‘The Real Housewives’ Franchise: “I Envy The Good Folks Who Produce That Show”
Image
Marc Cherry, the creator of Desperate Housewives, is weighing in on The Real Housewives franchise, the Bravo reality TV series inspired by the ABC dramedy.

Following the success of Desperate Housewives, which ran from 2004 to 2012, about a group of women living in the fictional Wisteria Lane cul-de-sac, Bravo followed with a “real-life” version in 2006 following a group of women living behind the private gated community of Coto de Caza in Orange County, California.

Cherry is not upset that The Real Housewives of Orange County was inspired by his hit series.

“They didn’t crib my name, to be fair to them,” Cherry told People. “They just used the word. Our show came out, and they capitalized on that. And you know what? That’s the capitalistic system.”

Cherry noted that Tommy Tune confused the reality show with the scripted series, adding, “Tommy got confused and said, ‘Oh, so do you produce all the various cities?...
