Everybody loves a tremendous cheesy 80s horror movie. Nothing lives up to this saying more than the 1988 cult classic movie Killer Klowns from Outer Space. For years, there has been talk of a sequel and an eight-episode mini-series, but nothing has happened.
But it looks like the Klowns may be landing again, this time with some help from an A-list actor. Industry scooper Jeff Sneider of The InSneider reports that Ryan Gosling has come on board to produce a Killer Klowns from Outer Space remake for Amazon MGM Studios.
The original film was written and directed by Stephen Chiodo from a screenplay he wrote with his brother Charles Chiodo. Stephen and Charles also produced the film with their other brother, Edward Chiodo. The film follows teenagers Mike (Grant Cramer) and Debbie (Suzanne Snyder) see a comet crash outside their sleepy small town, they investigate and discover a pack of murderous...

After decades of false starts, fan-fuelled nostalgia, and more merchandise than movie updates, Killer Klowns from Outer Space may finally be gearing up for a return, this time with Ryan Gosling reportedly involved as producer for a high-profile reboot at Amazon MGM Studios.
The surprise report, broken by insider Jeff Sneider, suggests that Gosling is backing a remake of the 1988 cult classic horror-comedy that saw extraterrestrial clowns descend from the cosmos in a giant circus tent spaceship to wreak havoc on a sleepy American town. With popcorn guns, cotton candy cocoons, acid pies, and balloon-animal bloodshed, the original film delivered a blend of slapstick humour and outlandish horror that has only grown in popularity since its modest theatrical debut.
The film was created, written and directed by the Chiodo Brothers, who for years have tried – and failed – to bring the Klowns back to life through sequels, 3D reboots, and even a proposed Syfy Original.

Hollywood icon Ryan Gosling is reportedly leading the charge for a new Killer Klowns from Outer Space.
Per Jeff Sneider's Hollywood blog The InSneider, Ryan Gosling is leading the production of a new Killer Klowns from Outer Space reboot. The project comes in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, though no further details regarding its development or production are available as of the time of writing.
Directed by Stephen Chiodo who co-wrote the script with brother Charles and co-produced with both Charles and Edward Chiodo, Killer Klowns from Outer Space is by far one of the most beloved horror cult classics. The film takes place in Crescent Cove, a small California town that is besieged by an invading army of clown-like alien horrors. We’ve been waiting a long time on the return of the Killer Klowns from Outer Space, with a proposed television series, an announced 3D sequel, and even a planned Syfy Original movie coming and going over the years. None of those projects ever ended up seeing the light of day, of course, with the original ’80s movie only spawning a video game follow-up at this time.
But it sounds like the Killer Klowns may be gearing up for their long-awaited return to the screen, with reporter Jeff Sneider breaking a wild scoop late last night on The InSneider.
According to Sneider’s report, which you can read in full behind a paywall, Ryan Gosling is on board to produce a new Killer Klowns from Outer Space project for Amazon MGM Studios?!

We’re thirty-seven years down the line from the release of the 1988 cult classic Killer Klowns from Outer Space (watch it Here), and even though the film’s creators have been anxious to make a follow-up for decades, we still haven’t gotten one. A new project is in the works at Amazon MGM Studios, with Ryan Gosling stepping in as producer to revive a 1988 horror-comedy. The movie, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, is set to get a remake, sparking excitement (at least for me) among fans of the original.
The 1988 film, directed by Stephen Chiodo, follows a group of alien clowns who land on Earth with sinister plans. They invade a small California town, capturing humans to feed on their blood. Known for its wild mix of scares and laughs, the movie has built a loyal following over the years, earning a strong 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 28 reviews.
Over time, there have been several attempts to revisit the story. The Chiodo Brothers, who created the original, once planned a sequel blending new ideas with the old, set for release in 2012.

It was a wild and intense ride, strapped tight into a freaky roller coaster for the nine months it took to create this world and bring it to life. The script came first, but the characters and their relationships were always there. I fabricated the puppets, from wire armature to furry exteriors. From April 4 to May 23, 2001, Comedy Central ran eight episodes of a 30-minute sitcom called "That's My Bush!," a sendup of the then-active George W. Bush administration. The premise of the show was as broad as possible. George W. Bush (Timothy Bottoms) was in the White House, but his life was more akin to that of an old-fashioned, 1980s-era workplace sitcom than that of a sitting president. There was a noisy, obnoxious laugh track paired with bright, even TV lighting, making the show look deliberately old-fashioned and artificial. Kurt Fuller played the buttoned-down killjoy Karl Rove, while Carrie Quinn Dolin played Laura Bush.
More than being a spoof of the Bush administration, however (and there was plenty to spoof), "That's My Bush!" was a satire of all-American sitcoms. Show creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker (of "South Park" fame) merely used the White House as a backdrop to mock dated sitcom...

Every now and then, a movie is so spectacularly, brilliantly, and gloriously bad that our brains catalog it in the “good” category anyway.
It’s hard to define what makes a movie good or bad since it’s all subjective, but for me, a bad movie becomes good when it’s still enjoyable despite being a terrible film.
While there’s plenty of room for debate on what movies are considered bad in the first place, I’ve come up with a handful that I think we can all agree aren’t exactly masterpieces.
(Universal Pictures/Screenshot)
In looking back over some of the worst movies I’ve seen, I asked myself one question to determine if it was so bad, it’s actually good.
Would I watch it again?
When the answer was yes, as it was for all of the following, I figured that was enough to give...

Fall is upon us, and that brings the changing of the leaves, apple cider, and of course, scary movies. Seeing scary movies when you’re a little kid is the best. Really wanting to see what all the bigger kids are seeing but also being scared of what you just saw. It’s a magical time to be alive… and now is a great time to run down the best kid’s films for Halloween. These are guaranteed to frighten your little ones but not leave you unable to sleep after they crawl into your bed at night.
Honorable Mention: The Monster Squad (1987)
While this film was a mainstay of my childhood, if you look at it today, some of the language hasn’t aged very well. I still love this film, as I can look past its flaws and remember the absolute glee I would get watching it over and over again.

As of this week, it’s officially been 20 years since the release of Team America: World Police, the puppet action movie made by famed restaurateurs Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Sure, it’s not perfect, but at least Team America gave us one of the greatest sex scenes in movie history, and one of the greatest outraged Sean Penn letters in “Sean Penn being outraged” history.
At the time, a lot of fans were expecting Team America to be a blistering takedown of George W. Bush’s calamitous foreign policy, but instead they got a movie that was more focused on satirizing Jerry Bruckheimer-produced blockbusters and lampooning self-involved celebrity political activism. As a result, there were a number of cameos from marionette versions of A-list Hollywood stars, including the aforementioned Penn, Susan Sarandon and Alec Baldwin. But the breakout star of the film was, of course, Matt Damon.

Scream Factory has just released Killer Klowns from Outer Space in 4K to celebrate its 35th Anniversary, and what an exciting time to be a fan of the 1980s movie. With the recent surge of Klownapalooza happening in the past few years, including tons of merch made available by Spirit Halloween and the much-anticipated video game scheduled to be released next month, it seems apropos for the Klowns to finally make their 4K debut.
In 1988, the Chiodo Brothers took their seemingly ridiculous premise of having otherworldly monsters in the form of circus clowns land on Earth to wreak havoc on a quiet little town and produced it into a full-length motion picture. Inspired by creature features and B-movies alike, their unconventional film with a deliberately hokey title would garner an initially significant following that evolved into a major cult classic close to four decades later.

“Everyone knows who Jason is. Everyone can point out The Predator. And, of course, everyone’s familiar with the Ghostbusters!”
So says Jared Gerritzen, Chief Creative Officer at IllFonic, as we sit down for a quick interview with him on Discord. He’s certainly an authoritative voice on this matter too, given that he’s worked on adaptations for each of those cherished properties over the years, giving them all the asymmetrical multiplayer treatment that his development studio has got down to a fine art by now.
He continues: “And that means that people have pre-conceived notions of what those franchises should be. I guess what I’m saying is that they come with the burden of expectation, as you’ve got to [appease] fans of every individual movie or comic-book, regardless of their varying degrees of quality.”
Yet Gerritzen seems less wary of any such purism when it comes to IllFonic’s latest release.

So with Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game, you’ve got the Chiodo Bros. involved, you’ve got the classic Dickies song, and you’ve got the classic Klown mannerisms with the gameplay. So what more do you want? How about female Klowns?
With IllFonic’s panel at Pax East yesterday, Stephen Chiodo accidentally let loose news that female Klowns will be coming to the game (which X user Nyzechu caught on film). “That wasn’t on my list of things not to say,” Stephen joked before Edward Chiodo told attendees to refrain from telling anyone. “I think I’m gonna be cocooned,” said Stephen.
“You know what? You’ve gotta let the little things out of the bag. It’s not gonna ruin anything,” Charles Chiodo quipped. The panel did go on to say that they do have more klowns and more content for the game that they haven’t talked about.

You’d think it would be a given that any new project that serves as a follow-up to the 1988 cult classic Killer Klowns from Outer Space (watch it Here) would need to feature two very important elements: the klowns and the famous theme song by The Dickies… but the upcoming Killer Klowns from Outer Space video game is missing one of those elements, as The Dickies have confirmed that their theme song is not being used for the game.

Director Stephen Chiodo hopes to revive Killer Klowns from Outer Space as an eight-part miniseries for streaming, continuing the story of the original characters and introducing new talent. The potential series would explore the clown planet and feature clown animals, expanding the universe and offering many more new possibilities. While no confirmation has been made, the success of other horror franchises transitioning to TV, such as Scream and Chucky, suggests that a streaming series could be a viable option for Killer Klowns from Outer Space.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space could potentially be revived as an eight-part streaming series, according to director Stephen Chiodo. First released back in 1988, the horror-comedy centered around a group of extraterrestrial beings that resembled clowns and came to Earth to harvest humans for their blood. While many films of this ilk received sequels back in the 1980s, Killer Klowns from Outer Space remains a standalone picture,...

There could soon be a new TV series that continues the story of Killer Klowns from Outer Space.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space has long had a cult following in the horror community. Even so, it's one of those rare genre films to have never been given an official sequel. The Chiodo brothers, who created the film together, have been trying to get a sequel made for decades without much luck. Speaking about the possibility in a new interview with SFX Magazine (per GamesRadar), Stephen Chiodo, who directed the original film, said that he's now trying to get an eight-episode series greenlit for a streaming service rather than trying to get another feature film developed.

We’ve been tracking the progress of a Killer Klowns from Outer Space video game for a year now, as developer Teravision Games and publisher Good Shepherd Entertainment had said they were aiming to get the game out into the world sometime in 2023. Now it has been announced that IllFonic will be taking over as the game’s publisher, and will also be co-developing the game with Teravision.
IllFonic’s Charles Brungardt provided the following statement: “When we first started talking to Good Shepherd Entertainment and Teravision Games about this possibility we were very excited about the IP. Then we got to know the team at Teravision and knew we were going to make this happen. Everyone at Good Shepherd has made the handoff process of this project enjoyable, as there is a lot of behind the scenes business in order to make something like this possible. And we are...

Universal made history throughout the 1930s and 1940s, bringing to life some of the greatest monsters of all time. In 1931, Dracula was considered one of the scariest films ever made. This may come as a big surprise, being that Dracula plays more like a drama than a horror movie today. The time that would later be known as the Golden Age of Hollywood emerged alongside the Great Depression, and boomed with the birth of sound films. According to Film Making Lifestyle, historians categorize Hollywood's Golden Age between the years of 1930 through 1989. Although broad, this time frame checks all the boxes as far as great cinema is concerned. Films like The Wizard of Oz, Citizen Kane, and Jaws are just a few honorable mentions that help flaunt the era's mindful masterpieces.

For decades, the 1988 film Killer Klowns from Outer Space (watch it Here) was a little-known cult film that never got the sequel it deserved… and while it still hasn’t received the sequel it deserves, it’s clear that its cult following has gotten quite large. Spirit Halloween stores are packed with Killer Klowns items, a Killer Klowns haunted house was part of Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights, Trick or Treat Studios created Killer Klowns action figures, and there’s a video game on the way. Now Spirit Halloween has started taking orders for one of the most impressive collectible display items a die-hard Killer Klowns from Outer Space fan could get their hands on: a 6 foot cotton candy cocoon, complete with the face of a victim sticking out of the cotton candy!

The good folks at Good Shepherd Entertainment have posted a new blog entry over at the official site for Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game, once again focusing on The Chiodo Brothers. “In space, no one can hear you scream.” That tagline isn’t amazing just because it’s attached to Alien, one of the greatest movies of all time. It also captures the inherent horror of space: the vast emptiness, the utter solitude, the complete helplessness. It’s no wonder that horror has been a part of space stories since the beginning, as seen in not only the Alien franchise, but also forerunners such as It! The Terror From Beyond Space and Planet of the Vampires.
With that in mind, it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that several horror franchises have sought to shake things up by sending their monsters to space. Yes, it might initially sound odd to launch a gothic castle dweller like Count Dracula or the campground-bound Jason Voorhees through the stars, but the premise allows moviemakers to enhance the threat posed by their monsters...

It's a balmy summer evening, the stars are out, and something strange just dropped out of the sky and landed in the woods near your hometown. What should you do? Warn the sheriff, knowing he never really listens to punk kids like you anyway? Investigate and poke it with a stick? Or ignore it and carry on making out in the back of your Convertible?
All the above answers are viable and correct if you're a stock character in a B movie horror involving hostile visitors from outer space, who like parking up on the edge of a small town where the hicks are too dumb to realize what is going on until it's almost too late. The premise was a staple of the atomic-era science fiction of the 1950s, and many directors who grew up with fond memories of those movies made their own versions in the 1980s.
