Looking at the numbers in Netflix’s report, season 4 led the way with 135.5 million hours watched globally between January and June 2025. Season 1 came in next with 97.7 million hours, followed by season 2 at 88.6 million and season 3 at 82.3 million. The report shows that people are either...

'Jennifer's Body' Fans Need To Watch Diablo Cody's 'Lisa Frankenstein'
Image
Sometimes, a movie just needs to be brought back from the dead. Or at least that's the case for 2024's romantic comedy Lisa Frankenstein, the brainchild of Diablo Cody (fun fact: a pen name), and the directorial debut of Zelda Williams. Cody is the Academy-Award-winning writer of Juno, as well as many other female-empowering films like Young Adult, Ricky and the Flash, and, of course, the cult horror classic Jennifer's Body. Infamously, Jennifer's Body, which stars Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried, suffered an egregious case of mismarketing prior to its release. The explicitly feminist, satirical film was packaged by the marketing team as a raunchy sex comedy to cater to male audiences, causing it to be panned by critics for not meeting expectations. Over time, Jennifer's Body has come to be loved for the hilarious and salient movie it always was.

Earlier this year, another horror satire written by Cody,...

Stranger Things Season 5 Will Officially Avoid An Annoying Problem From The Past 2 Seasons
Image
The end of Stranger Things is near, and while some might be worried about how the story will conclude, fans don't have to worry about one issue the series has encountered in the past two seasons. Netflix's sci-fi horror mystery drama TV show, created by the Duffer Brothers, has taken the world by storm since its premiere in 2016. While many have praised Stranger Things for its storytelling, 1980s homages, acting, directing, and more, some have found a handful of things to criticize (mostly about how long it takes for new episodes to be released).

Netflix confirmed that Stranger Things season 5 will premiere sometime in 2025 and feature eight episodes — "Chapter One: The Crawl," "The Vanishing of [Tba]," "The Turnbow Trap," "Sorcerer," "Shock Jock," "Escape from Camazotz," "The Bridge," and "The Rightside Up."

The good news is that, after almost three years since the ending of Stranger Things season 4, season 5 will debut in 2025. Of course,...

Channing Tatum & Scarlett Johansson's 'Fly Me to the Moon' Streaming on Apple TV+ in December
Image
Everyone knows NASA was a notoriously boring place in the summer of 1969. Nothing going on but smoking and stirring Tang. Thankfully, in Apple TV+'s Fly Me To The Moon, Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson inject some human drama into the horn-rimmed hallways of Merritt Island's Launch Operations Center. The Rom-Com-Dram, which dropped in theaters this past July - and spent an unusually long time in "rent or buy" limbo - is finally getting a streaming date this December 6th. Per the synopsis:

"Brought in to fix NASAs public image, sparks fly in all directions as marketing wunderkind Kelly Jones wreaks havoc on launch director Cole Daviss already difficult task. When the President deems the mission too important to fail, Jones is directed to stage a fake moon landing as back-up and the countdown truly begins"

10 Most Creative Horror Movies From The 2020s (So Far)
Image
The 2020s have so far seen some brilliantly creative horror movies, which put new spins on well-worn tropes entwined with unique (but not too bizarre) supernatural concepts. Taking inspiration from some of the best fantasy horror movies in general, these terrifying new flicks derive scares from fantastical monsters that still have some thematic substance. On the other hand, some recent thriller movies that are almost perfect are driven by realistic but terrifying psychological horror.

Leaning into multiple genres that have blown up in movies and TV in the past decade, horror movies in the 2020s have been about social commentary and subverting classic tales. However, the decade is only (almost) halfway done. Some of these titles have already spawned obvious imitators, and fans can look forward to other interesting horror movies that build upon the horror themes that define this decade.

10 Movies That Killed Major Actors Shockingly Fast
Image
Surprising, daring movies that subvert audience expectations have long since been a staple of film-making. Few of these subversions come as more of a surprise than when a major actor is killed off in the movie far earlier than expected, with typical narratives making viewers assume that big-name stars will survive to the end of the story. By pulling a metaphorical rug out from underneath these audiences and killing off a major actor, these movies end up ingraining themselves in viewers' minds by re-establishing just what is at stake in the plotline.

Whether the actor was a large part of a movie's promotional material, or had been tipped to be the main protagonist early on in the film, these major deaths have left a lasting impression on cinema. Sometimes, the death of the actor early on serves as a way to enhance one's viewing experience by keeping them on the edge of their seat,...

Rotten Tomatoes introduces a new Popcornmeter and Verified Hot rating for audience scores. Nearly 20 movies released in 2024 already have Verified Hot labels due to outstanding audience responses. Movies like Inside Out 2 and Arthur the King have high Verified Hot ratings, signifying audience love.

Rotten Tomatoes has changed its metric to calculate audience scores, introducing a new Popcornmeter and a rare "Verified Hot" rating, and there are already some 2024 movies with the Verified Hot label. The review aggregator introduced a major change to how audience scores are labeled, how they look, and the different requirements that come with them. But the biggest chance with Rotten Tomatoes' new Popcornmeter is copying the concept of the "Certified Fresh" label from critics and applying it to audience scores. That is how the Verified Hot label has been created to set apart movies with outstanding audience response.

In mythology, Ganymede was a young man who was so stunningly handsome Zeus had an eagle abduct him and bring him to Olympus to serve as cupbearer to the gods. And, of course, as one of his lovers. In the here and now, Ganymede is the new film from Colby Holt and his partner Sam Probst who previously collaborated on Pig Hag. The film is based in part on their own experiences. I’m assuming they mean growing up LGBTQ in deep South fundamentalist Christian families, not being stalked by something from beyond the grave.

Fly Me To The Moon Review: I Want More Movies Like This, Hollywood
Image
Fly Me to the Moon is a nostalgic, stylish rom-com set during the Space Race era, with strong performances from Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson. The film explores the lead-up to the Apollo 11 mission and the relationship between launch director Cole Davis and marketing whiz Kelly Jones, while also addressing conspiracy theories. Despite certain pacing issues, the movie's charm, engaging characters, and retro feel make it a worthwhile watch.

Fast-moving, stylishly edited, and packed to the brim with nostalgia for a vital moment in American history, Greg Berlanti's Fly Me to the Moon has a lot on its mind. In many ways, it feels like the classic sort of movie Hollywood is wary of making these days, though I really hope that this Space Race rom-com changes studios' minds. Fly Me to the Moon is far from a perfect movie, but for two hours and 12 minutes, it took me...

‘Lisa Frankenstein’ 4K Uhd Review
Image
Stars: Kathryn Newton, Cole Sprouse, Liza Soberano, Henry Eikenberry, Joe Chrest, Carla Gugino | Written by Diablo Cody | Directed by Zelda Williams

Billed as “a coming of Rage story”, this undead comedy-horror is directed by Zelda Williams (daughter of Robin) and scripted by Diablo Cody, making a return to the teen girl horror genre after her 2009 cult hit Jennifer’s Body. As befits a film involving various dismembered body parts, Lisa Frankenstein is occasionally patchy and clumsily put together, but the witty script and fun performances carry it through.

Set in 1989, the film centres on Lisa Swallows (Kathryn Newton), who’s still withdrawn after witnessing her mother’s butchering during a home invasion by an axe murderer. Meanwhile, her taciturn father (Joe Chrest) has moved on and remarried, meaning that Lisa now has both an evil stepmother (Carla Gugino) and a popular, kind-hearted, but not too bright sister-in-law, Taffy (Liza Soberano).

Stranger Things' Genius Casting From 8 Years Ago Is Brilliantly Strengthened By Divisive New Horror Movie
Image
Joe Chrest plays similar oblivious parental figures in both Stranger Things and Lisa Frankenstein. Both Ted Wheeler and Dale are clueless about the dangerous situations their kids are in. Chrest's casting in Lisa Frankenstein, set in the 1980s like Stranger Things, further strengthens his role.

It's no secret that Stranger Things features some of the best casting in Hollywood as of late, but one under-the-radar actor appears in a 2024 horror film, and his character is almost the same as his role in the Netflix television show. The science fiction horror drama series, created by the Duffer Brothers, premiered in July 2016 and was an instant hit that soon turned into a cultural phenomenon. Stranger Things's overwhelming positive reviews following its first season praised the show's nostalgia and homages to 1980s movies, complex and wildly entertaining story, and, of course, the cast's performances.

In particular, many were amazed by the skills...

How To Watch Lisa Frankenstein At Home
Image
If only Mary Shelley could've lived to see a Frankenstein story with a twist quite like this one. Horror fans have been waiting quite some time for writer Diablo Cody to get another kick at the horror can after 2009's "Jennifer's Body," the Megan Fox-starring flick that's taken on the air of a genuine cult classic after initially bombing among critics and audiences alike. For Millennials of a certain age, time has been kind to the unabashedly feminist story of a demon possessing a high school student and developing a taste for male flesh (as one does), and now the time has come for everyone to offer up a long-overdue mea culpa. Luckily, this year's release of the hilariously offbeat "Lisa Frankenstein" feels like the perfect opportunity to do just that.

The intersection between genuine horror/comedies and movies made for teens feels like remarkably unexplored territory in recent years,...

Diablo Cody
‘Lisa Frankenstein’ Debuts at #2 on the Box Office Charts with $3.8 Million Opening
Diablo Cody
Jennifer’s Body writer Diablo Cody returned to horror over the weekend with the theatrical release of horror-comedy Lisa Frankenstein, directed by Zelda Williams and starring Kathryn Newton (Freaky) and Cole Sprouse (“Riverdale”). While the film may go on to become a cult favorite, it unfortunately didn’t make much of a splash in its opening weekend.

Lisa Frankenstein scared up just $3.8 million in its theatrical debut here in the United States, with Focus Features giving the film a massive wide release in 3,144 total theaters.

The production budget for Zelda Williams’ Lisa Frankenstein was a reported $13 million, so the film has quite a long way to go before it starts turning a profit for Focus Features.

The film is currently “rotten” on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, with a 49% Tomatometer score. The good news? The film’s audience score is much higher at 82% fresh.

In the pages of Fangoria #22, Lisa Frankenstein...

Review: Lisa Frankenstein is a Delightfully Dark Monster Romance Story
Image
If Tim Burton ever tried his hand at a John Hughes-styled teen flick, it would probably look like Lisa Frankenstein. That is to say, Lisa Frankenstein walks a tightrope between garnering sympathy for off-beat outsiders and embracing one's darkest impulses in charmingly grotesque fashion. Bringing this updated tale of Frankenstein's Monster to '80s suburbia, actor-turned-director Zelda Williams creates an impressive blend of sweetness, Gothic fashion, and bloodshed that, while occasionally lacking in tension, makes up for in stylized camp. Those wondering whether Lisa Frankenstein should be labeled as a scary or funny movie would be safe in the knowledge that the answer is "yes."

While this ode to Universal Classic Monsters, Mary Shelly, Edward Scissorhands, and Weird Science marks Williams' feature-length debut following short films like Shrimp, Lisa Frankenstein's story comes courtesy of veteran Hollywood scribe Diablo Cody. If her work on Juno and Jennifer's Body --...

Diablo Cody Talks 'Being Able to Play God' with Lisa Frankenstein
Image
Zelda Williams, daughter of Robin Williams, makes her directorial debut with the dark and hilarious film Lisa Frankenstein. Diablo Cody, the award-winning screenwriter of Young Adult, Juno, and Jennifer's Body, collaborates with Williams to create a uniquely twisted take on the classic horror trope. The film stars Kathryn Newton, Cole Sprouse, and Carla Gugino, and offers a morbidly funny joyride for dark comedy lovers.

Back in 2008, Diablo Cody won an Oscar for her incredible Juno script. Ever since, she has continued to churn out award-caliber screenplays, including Tully, Young Adult, and more. Also in the mix is her cult-classic Jennifer's Body script, and Cody has even voiced interest in penning a sequel for the Megan Fox cult classic. In the meantime, director Zelda Williams (daughter of the iconic Robin Williams) has pounced on Cody's most recent work: Lisa Frankenstein, which, like Jennifer's Body, offers up an absurdist, feminist, and playful...
