In Govind Nihalani’s Dev, Om Puri was one of the most outspoken actors of the country, played Bad Cop, the communal law enforcer while Amitabh Bachchan played the Good Cop.
Never one to hide his anger and hurt, Om once surprised this writer by suddenly asking, “Why couldn’t Govind have cast me in (Amitabh) Bachchan saab’s role in Dev? I’ve the highest regard for Bachchan saab. I played his elder brother in Ravi Chopra’s Baabul, although I am eight years his junior. I did it for the pleasure of working with him for the first time.”
With Dev, which turned 21 years old on June 11, Om felt the situation was different. “I had done a major successful film Ardh Satya with Govind. But when he made a big-budgeted film (Dev) he went to Bachchan saab to play the protagonist. I was given the negative role of the corrupt cop.

When Amitabh Bachchan Called Salman Kha, God’s Child(Photo Credit –Facebook)
Superstars Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan have shared the screen space in movies like Baghban, God Tussi Great Ho and Baabul. However, inevitably, they have another common link. We are referring to Salman’s ex-ladylove Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who is in the present, married to Big B’s son Abhishek Bachchan. This has also grabbed some eyeballs about the camaraderie between Salman and the Bachchan clan. However, did you know that there was once a time when Big B was all praise for Salman?
Salman Khan’s Appearance In Baghban Coincided With His Hit And Run Case
We are talking about the time when the duo had shared the screen space in the family drama Baghban in the year 2003. Incidentally, this was also the same time when Salman Khan had embroiled himself in the controversial hit-and-run case. During this time,...

A look back at Amitabh Bachchan’s ghostly turn in Bhootnath, which released in 2008! As a special bonus, in a throwback interview, Amitabh Bachchan shared his thoughts on playing a ghost and more!
In Bhootnath, debutant director Vivek Sharma harks back to an artless innocence to tell the tale of a benign ghost who comes to life. The film’s most delectable aspect is the rapport that grows between the ghost (Amitabh Bachchan) and the fearless little boy (Aman Siddiqui) who comes to live in the dead man’s mansion, takes on the ghost, and even gets the better of him. Both Bachchan and the boy have a ball. So do we, in portions.
The film’s best scenes feature the Big B with the incredibly confident and polished Aman. The pair just takes over the screen and makes you forget the narrative’s all-too-apparent flaws. There are plot-holes large...

Tanuj Virwani, reflects on his experience shooting for his second film, Purani Jeans, with Subhash K Jha as it clocks 11 years since it released.
Tanuj, 11 years of Purani Jeans?
Wow, firstly, I cannot believe it’s been 11 years already, Sir. Purani Jeans was supposed to be my first film and was to be directed by Ravi Chopra (the Baghban director), but owing to his ill health, it got scrapped. I went on and did another film.
How was Purani Jean revived?
A year later, I got a call from Eros Entertainment saying the film was being revived. Obviously, I was over the moon. The only difference was that earlier, I was playing the role of Sam, played by Aditya Seal. Now, they wanted me to play the role of Sid Ray.
What was it like shooting for this breezy young film?
All of us were young, no acting there. Making...

Why Was This Highly-Awaited Govinda, Tabu & Lara Dutta Movie Shelved? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Bollywood has seen its fair share of shelved projects, but few remain as infamous as Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai. Directed by the late Ravi Chopra, the film featured an impressive cast, including Govinda, Tabu, Lara Dutta, Boman Irani, and Rajpal Yadav. Shot in 2008, this comedy-drama generated significant buzz due to its star-studded lineup and Chopra’s reputation for delivering hits.
However, despite being nearly completed, Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai never saw the light of day. The film’s shelving was not due to production delays or creative differences but a legal battle that derailed its release. American filmmakers legally sued the film for copyright infringement. Despite a settlement, the movie was never released.

Anil Sharma who was all for gritted teeth and clenched fists in Gadar, goes incurably lachrymose in his new film Vanvaas. Set in the saffron splendour of Varanasi, Sharma’s cinema is an old-fashioned weepie with a bleeding heart and visuals that exude an over-saturated emotional meltdown in fits and starts.
It is a familiar tale often told since Shakespeare’s King Lear, of ungrateful children, this time abandoning their father to die in Varanasi. But these progenies from hell are substantially more wretched, less interesting in their toxicity, than their counterparts in the past including the Bachchan bunch in Ravi Chopra’s Baghban.
Nana Patekar plays Tyagi, the dementia-riddled patriarch who spends all his time day dreaming about his dead wife. After being abandoned by his children and their wives in Varanasi (to the sound a clamorous Bhajan), Tyagi who suffers from what seems to be advanced dementia, befriends a mischievous tourist volunteer.

Sharmaji Namkeen(Amazon Prime Video)
Starring Rishi Kapoor, Paresh Rawail, Juhi Chawla
Directed by Hitesh Bhatia
Whether it is the affable culinary artiste Sharmaji or Rishi Kapoor , the much missed affable actor who plays Sharmaji, life dealt them with such unexpected blows. Rishi left us and this film incomplete . Sharmaji too is at a loose end when suddenly after forced retirement he finds himself looking at yawning stretches of emptiness, punctuated by bouts of exasperated protest against this custom of retirement.
Sharmaji Namkeen is not the first film about retirement blues: Ravi Chopra’s Baghban remains a quasi-classic of the genre. Baghban is referred to at the start of Sharmaji Namkeen by Satish Kaushik who is routinely dependable as Sharmaji’s best buddy.

Yash Chopra’s 1969 cult classic Ittefaq, is one of Shah Rukh Khan’s favourite movies. In fact, he has always been keen on adapting the film and even acting in it.
But, when Srk couldn’t do to it due to prior commitments, he decided to co-produce the suspense thriller with Karan Johar and Renu Ravi Chopra. King Khan is extremely happy with the way the upcoming movie has been directed by Abhay Chopra, and the person who has impressed Shah Rukh the most is Akshaye, who portrays the role of a tough cop.
Shah Rukh says, “Akshaye is unreadable and that’s one of the plus points of the film. Personally, I feel that nobody could have essayed this role better than him. Train To Busan (Korean with English subtitles)
Starring Gong Yoo, Kim Su-an, Jung Yu-mi
Directed by Yeon Sang-Ho
Rating: ** ½
Zombie films have a chequered history in India. So far there have been very few worth mentioning. There was Krishan D.K & Raj Nidomoru’s Go Goan Gone. And there was another Zombie film with Abhay Deol that Ekta Kapoor and Sid Jain were jointly producing. It got shelved.
I am not surprised. Watching grownup men and women turn into flesh-eating monsters with their heads and limbs tilted at gravity-scoffing angles, is not quite the evening of entertainment that the average Indian middle class family craves for. Unless you are tickled by the sight of scores of zombies prowling the train compartments like rioters during the 1984 riots.
A bunch of assorted characters from different walks of life board a speeding train which gets attacked by zombies. That’s it! The wafer-thin...

Right before the release of their film Bhoothnath Returns, Br Films has been facing legal crisis after Viacom 18 sued the company for Rs. 20 crores for failing to abide by a past agreement. Hence, a case has been filed for the same at Bombay High Court on April 7. Apparently, Viacom 18 had collaborated with Br Films in 2007 for two films and had even paid Rs. 10 crore for the same but the films never saw the light of the day. Hence, in order to return the borrowed amount, Br Chopra decided to opt for a mutual agreement with Viacom 18 where the latter will be given a particular stake in Ravi Chopra's production house. However, now, when Viacom 18 asked the production house about the agreement, they refused to acknowledge it. Hence, a miffed Viacom 18 decided to follow the legal procedure. Bhoothnath Returns is slated to release on April 11.

The music duo brothers Anand-Milind are back! They were successful award winning music-directors throughout the eighties and nineties, having composed for around 200 Bollywood films. Remembered for hit soundtracks such as Qayamat se qayamat tai, Dil and Beta, amongst many others, the duo have contributed to film successes for all three of the top Khans and also had a successful partnership with Govinda and David Dhawan.
However, the duo could not really make a successful transition into the 21st century, with no memorable soundtracks in the last decade. They are now back with the film Yeh Khula Aasmaan, which is due for release on 25th May. The film is inspired by a true story and portrays the extremely challenging phase of an Iit-aspirant young boy on the verge of succumbing to academic failures, and highlights the value of strong familial systems to help nurse bruised young minds.

Legal tussles in Bollywood are nothing new, the latest being the B.R.Films case that has come into the lime light. One of the oldest production houses, B.R.Films, has been taken to court based on a petition filed by financer Devidas Jotumal Thawani for non-payment of dues. The case so far is that Thawani, who is a financer for B.R.Films and has invested huge sums till date, was receiving prompt repayment of dues until last year. However, post Ravi Chopra's diagnosis of a lung disorder, Thawani claims that the payments have stopped. As per the petition filed, the owners of the production house, Ravi Chopra, his wife Renu and sons Kapil and Abhay are facing an interim order by the High Court, which restricts B.R.Films from creating any third party rights for their immovable and movable properties without the permission of the court.

Ravi Chopra & his wife Renu
After a series of delays and eventually no-payment of dues financer Devidas Thawani resorts to legal action against B R Films
Film financer Devidas Jotumal Thawani has slapped B R Films, belonging to Ravi Chopra & family, with a case owing to non-payment of dues to him. The High Court, in an interim order, has restricted B R Films from creating any third party rights for the immovable and movable properties without seeking prior permission. The order also applies to Ravi?s wife Renu and their sons Kapil & Abhay.
Reports suggest that Thawani and his family have invested heavily in the production house since mid 2000. While the Chopras were more or less prompt with many payment installments, they slackened ever since Ravi Chopra took ill. Hence the dues have remained unpaid since September 2010. Sources close to the Chopra family stated,? Ravi’s wife, Renu, refused to pay up.
