Wicked: For Good Gets A "First Look" Featurette And Two New Posters Highlighting Elphaba And Glinda
Image
Last year, Wicked became a cultural sensation and quickly established itself as the most successful Broadway film adaptation of all time. This November, it reaches its epic, electrifying, emotional conclusion in Wicked: For Good.

As we first reported on SFFGazette.com, Universal Pictures has just conjured up an extended featurette for the movie (billed as a "First Look"), along with two gorgeous new character posters putting the spotlight on the sequel's leads.

If you didn't like the first movie, chances are Wicked: For Good isn't for you. However, after the first instalment grossed $729 million at the worldwide box office, we'd say this one has a good shot at being one of 2025's few billion-dollar hits.

Directed once again by award-winning director Jon M. Chu and starring the spectacular returning cast, led by Academy Award-nominated superstars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, the final chapter of the untold story of the witches...

Another Featurette for Part 2 'Wicked: For Good' - Jon M. Chu's Sequel
Image
"It's wild. It's unbridled." Universal has debuted a new 3-minute featurette for Jon M. Chu's Wicked: For Good, opening in theaters everywhere in November this fall. The much anticipated sequel to Wicked from last year, even more magical Part 2. This behind-the-scenes look complements the first trailer a few months back. For Good is the second chapter of this immersive, cultural celebration. "It's really about them trying to get back together in some way, even if the fates don't allow that." As an angry mob rises up against the Wicked Witch, Glinda and Elphaba will need to come together one final time. With their strong friendship now the fulcrum of their futures, they will need to truly see each other, with honesty and empathy, if they are to change themselves, and all of Oz, for good. Cynthia Erivo stars as Elphaba Thropp, a young woman with green skin who becomes the Wicked Witch.

‘Wicked: For Good’ BTS Video Sees Elphaba Finally Become the Wicked Witch Ex: The film hits theaters this fall.
Image
The team behind Wicked: For Good are joining forces for a brand-new featurette that teases the “consequences” of the leading characters’ actions in last year’s Wicked. Hearing from director, Jon M. Chu, and leading ladies, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, audiences are thrown directly back into the green, pink, and magical world of Oz, where Elphaba (Erivo) and Glinda (Grande) find themselves as completely different people than when we bid adieu to them back in November. With returning stars, including Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum coming back to the fold, we can’t wait to see how the wickedly talented team delivers the second half of one of history’s greatest musicals onto the big screen.

As Grande puts it in the featurette, “much has changed” for both witches when audiences pick back up with them in Wicked: For Good. The final sequences of the first movie...

1 Year After Wicked's Unexpected Success, The Sequel Hints at Bigger Things
Image
Wickedwas already established as a beloved, critically-acclaimed stage production, but nothing guaranteed its feature adaptation would succeed, too. However, Jon M. Chu's take on the musical was beyond magical, winning over both longtime fans and new ones.

The adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical had been in the works for many years, and, as Universal and Chu started to tackle the feature film, they decided to split it into two parts. 2024's Wicked was a surprise hit, becoming a critical and commercial success, and even winning an Oscar. Ahead of the sequel, Wicked: For Good's release in theaters later this year, Universal revealed what to expect from the second part.

The first trailer debuted in early June, teasing an epic conclusion to Cynthia Erivo's Elphaba and Ariana Grande's Glinda's journey. In the newly released featurette, the two Academy Award-nominated actresses and director Jon M. Chu...

Adam Lambert Champions Cynthia Erivo’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ Casting: “Shouldn’t the Teachings of Jesus Transcend Gender?”
Image
Adam Lambert is championing Cynthia Erivo in Jesus Christ Superstar, despite backlash surrounding her casting as the titular role.

In Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s musical, the Tony Award winner portrayed Jesus alongside the American Idol alum as Judas at the Hollywood Bowl for the first three nights of August.

When news of Erivo’s casting was announced, it was criticized because she is a Black queer woman. However, Lambert doesn’t share the same concerns, and admitted in an interview with Billboard that he was “excited by the challenge” of the Oscar nominee leading Jesus Christ Superstar.

“Cynthia’s brilliant. Her voice, presence, and simultaneous power and vulnerability absolutely blows my mind and working with her has been a dream,” he said. “I’m excited by the challenge of presenting the audience with a production led by a female, Black ‘Jesus’ and encourage the audience to expand their minds a bit.

‘Wicked: For Good’ Star, 24, Gives the Sequel's Plot a Magical Update [Exclusive]
Image
Magic is in the air, as we’re now only four months away from the arrival of Wicked: For Good, which will cap off the feature-length adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical of yesteryear. After collecting heaping piles of cash at the box office last year with the first half, all eyes are on the skies to see just how high the second part of the Jon M. Chu-helmed musical film will soar. Those of us out there who first fell in love with the show when it was on Broadway with Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel in the leading roles have a solid idea of what to expect from the next installment, but we also know that the creative team have extended the story a bit through extra scenes and songs that will better fill out the tale of the two besties-turned-faux-enemies.

Over the weekend, during the Sdcc festivities,...

First Footage for Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried's New Thriller Debuts at Collider’s Exclusive Sdcc Panel
Image
The first day of San Diego Comic-Con is winding down, but Paul Feig has one big surprise left up his sleeve. At Collider's Directors on Directing panel hosted by Steve Weintraub and also featuring Rob Reiner, the acclaimed director debuted the first footage from his upcoming novel adaptation, The Housemaid, starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried. It's a quick introductory scene that offers a tantalizing and slightly sinister taste of the world the Euphoria star is about to enter as she applies to work for a wealthy couple with plenty of skeletons in their closets. What's meant to be a change of scenery is about to become something much more complicated and dangerous when the film arrives on December 25.

In the footage, attendees at the panel were introduced to Sweeney's prospective housemaid, Millie, and Seyfried's Nina, as the latter conducts an interview with the former about potentially taking care of her home.

How Mattel Studios President and Chief Content Officer Robbie Brenner Is Crafting a Post-‘Barbie’ Slate
Image
How do you follow a phenomenon like “Barbie?” That was the task put in front of Robbie Brenner, President of Mattel Studios and Chief Content Officer in the wake of the $1.4 billion-grossing, Oscar-winning feminist blockbuster that served as the opening salvo for the Mattel Studios brand.

Brenner joined the company in 2018, and at first it seemed like a surprising fit. Brenner had cut her teeth working for Miramax in the 1990s, later serving executive roles at 20th Century Fox and Relativity and producing indies like “Dallas Buyers Club.” Perhaps it’s exactly that foundation that spurred Brenner to enthusiastically hire Greta Gerwig to co-write and direct “Barbie” – and, crucially, to give Gerwig the freedom to make something truly unique.

“For me, I feel like if we’re not trying to raise the bar on every single movie that we’re doing, if we’re not doing something that feels unexpected...

‘The Testament of Ann Lee’ First Look: Amanda Seyfried Sings in Historical Shaker Movement Religious Fable
Image
Amanda Seyfried is back on the musical theater kick, and this time, she’s putting the Shake(r) in her dance routine for the big screen. The actress leads Mona Fastvold‘s “The Testament of Ann Lee,” portraying the titular religious leader who founded the Shaker Movement in the late 1770s.

“The Testament of Ann Lee” is co-written by Fastvold and her “The Brutalist” collaborator and real-life partner Brady Corbet. “Ann Lee” was announced in December 2024. It will premiere at the 2025 Venice Film Festival, and later will screen at TIFF 50.

Christopher Abbott, Thomasin McKenzie, Lewis Pullman, Tim Blake Nelson, Stacy Martin, Matthew Beard, Scott Handy, Viola Prettejohn, David Cale, and Jamie Bogyo co-star alongside Seyfried. Ann Lee’s followers deemed her the female Jesus Christ, and her worshippers prayed through song and dance, hence the music-centric genre for the historical feature. “The Testament of Ann Lee” is shot in 70mm,...

These 4 Actresses Auditioned for Glinda in the 'Wicked' Movies, But Ariana Grande Got the Role
Image
Ariana Grande gave an incredible performance as Glinda in the first Wicked movie and we can’t imagine the movie without her, though some beloved stars also auditioned for the role.

Four stars have confirmed that they auditioned to play Glinda in Wicked, though we’re pretty sure there were dozens of others who were up for the role as well.

Director Jon M. Chu has opened up about how every person had to audition, including Ariana. There were no offers for the lead roles!

“I think one of the most overlooked facts of the #WickedMovie Casting was that Everyone Had to audition. No straight offers & they showed up! It was incredibly humbling to witness these actors spill their guts on the floor for this movie,” Jon said. “Cynthia and Ariana Earned their roles and brought our little audition room to tears multiple times throughout the process. Margot Robbie in Barbie (2023)
‘Barbie’ Animated Film in the Works at Illumination, Mattel Studios
Margot Robbie in Barbie (2023)
Two years after Warner Bros.’ “Barbie” became the highest grossing film of 2023, Mattel Studios announced Thursday it will produce an animated film based on their famed doll with Illumination that will be released by Universal Pictures.

The project will be the first theatrically released animated “Barbie” film after years of straight-to-video animated movies. It also marks Illumination’s second project based around an outside IP after it set a studio record with the $1.36 billion “Super Mario Bros. Movie” with Nintendo in 2023. A sequel to that film is set for release next year.

The “Barbie” deal comes a month after Mattel combined its film and television production divisions into Mattel Studios under the leadership of Robbie Brenner. The studio will release a film adaptation of “Masters of the Universe” with Amazon MGM in June 2026 and has a slew of other productions in development including “Matchbox” starring John Cena and “Hot Wheels...

‘Barbie’ Animated Feature In Works From Illumination & Mattel Studios
Image
Exclusive: Two years after the record-setting release of Barbie, the feminist live-action take on Mattel’s iconic doll that became a cultural phenomenon, Illumination and Mattel Studios have finalized a deal to develop a new Barbie movie that will be the first in animation for theaters, sources tell Deadline.

Reps for Illumination, Universal, and Mattel declined to comment. Not yet dated, we’re told the film will be released by Universal Pictures, which has an exclusive financing and distribution partnership with Illumination. No word yet on the plot of this Barbie or creatives attached.

Transcending all expectations as it grossed over $1.44 billion worldwide, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, starring Margot Robbie, impacted culture like few other films in recent memory. Propelled to the highest heights in part by the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon, where audiences paired Barbie with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer in a double-feature event, the film was the highest grossing of...

Jonathan Bailey Boards Jurassic World: Rebirth as Jeff Goldblum Returns
Jonathan Bailey
Jonathan Bailey has formally joined the ensemble of Jurassic World: Rebirth, stepping into an as-yet-unnamed lead role opposite Jeff Goldblum, whose cameo will mark Dr. Ian Malcolm’s first appearance since 2022’s Dominion — a pairing confirmed by director Gareth Edwards after Deadline broke the news last week. Filming began in March on soundstages outside London before relocating to Thailand and Malta, where cast member Scarlett Johansson reportedly chartered a yacht so the company could unwind between night shoots.

Bailey’s schedule briefly overlapped with post-production pickups for Jon M. Chu’s two-part Wicked, but Universal arranged a three-week hiatus that allowed the actor to finish musical Adr in Los Angeles before rejoining the dinosaur thriller. Studio insiders say the dual commitments underscore the franchise’s new strategy of blending Broadway-honed talent with blockbuster veterans to refresh its demographic reach.

Goldblum, who filmed his scenes in May, appears for “several pivotal...
