Grotesquerie Season 1 Review: Ryan Murphy's Compelling Ideas Hold Little Interest In FX Horror Mystery
Image
Despite strong performances from a stellar cast and potent symbolism offering compelling ideas, Grotesquerie doesnt evolve much past its plodding narrative and scattershot story. The new FX series was created by Ryan Murphy, best known for co-creating American Horror Story for the same network. His latest horror mystery offers a similar feel to the anthology show, as seasoned Detective Lois Tryon (Niecy Nash-Betts) investigates a series of grisly murders in her small town. She soon teams up with a local nun, Sister Megan (Micaela Diamond), after learning the killings have key religious connotations.

When planets perish, it can take a whole galaxy to save them.

In upcoming series “The Man Who Fell to Earth,” Chiwetel Ejiofor stars as an extraterrestrial who travels to Earth after his home planet dies. He seeks out scientist Justin Falls (Naomie Harris) to save both his world and hers.

Jimmi Simpson, Rob Delaney, Sonya Cassidy, Joana Ribeiro, Annelle Olaleye, Kate Mulgrew, Clarke Peters, and Bill Nighy also co-star.

Ejiofor, who additionally serves as executive producer, previously told IndieWire that he seeks to represent a wide array of storytelling onscreen.

“I think it’s a very exciting time for diversity in cinema,” Ejiofor said during IndieWire’s 2019 Sundance Studio. “Of course, all...
