Conceived by Barbara Pyle and media mogul Ted Turner, Captain Planet was an ecological hero way ahead of his time. The animated series ran for years with some nifty design work by Neal Adams and his Continuity Associates. Each episode featured an adventure and a lesson (of course). It endeared itself to a generation of viewers and remained an enduring figure from the 1990s.

Now, Warner Home Entertainment has released Captain Planet the Complete Franchise, with 41 hours and 31 minutes of environmental goodness. For silly legal reasons, the show has two titles evenly split among its six seasons: Captain Planet and the Planeteers (animated by Dic) and The New Adventures of Captain Planet (animated by Hanna-Barbera) for the final three seasons.

Gaia, the spirit of Earth, was voiced by Whoopi Goldberg, who set the tone and standard for the entire series. She was accompanied by a voice cast that included Margot Kidder...

There was a time in TV history when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were the most radical thing on Saturday mornings, but one of their many knockoffs became the epitome of '90s cringe. Those who lived through the 1980s and 1990s remember when animated mutants, monsters, and colorful costumed crusaders dominated television. While some Tmnt clones managed to find a cult following and discover a niche in toyboxes, others faded into obscurity. Yet, a few of these neon-colored curiosities are worth digging up, serving as time capsules of a bygone era and offering insight into the pure desperation of trying to replicate TMNTs success. Such is the case with Creepy Crawlers, a magical, messy mix of '90s trends and probably one of the strangest attempts at creating the next big thing alongside the heroes in a half-shell.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem released in 2023 and featured a teenage version of the turtle heroes and an underground world of mutants. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have a rich history, from their comic book origins to their numerous TV series and movies spanning over 35 years. The franchise includes classic adaptations like the 1990 live-action film and the popular 2003 animated series, as well as newer takes such as the 2014 and 2016 live-action movies and the 2018 animated series, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

While the franchise is somewhat lacking when it comes to having a cohesive continuity, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies in order show how the world's favorite heroes in a half-shell have continually adapted themselves to stay relevant throughout the decades. From the pages of comic books to the big screen, Earth's favorite crime-fighting anthropomorphic turtles love only one thing more than ridding the world of scum: pizza.

The Tick creator Ben Edlund shows his support for the ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike with the character's bold, blue visage.

In a May 9 Twitter post, Edlund espoused his support for the writers strike with a picture of a sign emblazoned with the words "Writers Guild on strike! for fair pay!" The sign also features the Tick himself adding an emphatic "Yeah!" to the message.

Ric de Azevedo, who performed as a member of the voluminous King Family and served as a TV producer on Private Benjamin, California Dreams, Young Maverick and the Dukes of Hazzard spinoff Enos, has died. He was 75.

De Azevedo died March 14 in Fruit Heights, Utah, after an undisclosed illness, his family announced.

Survivors include a brother, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles actor Cam Clarke, and a cousin, singer and My Three Sons actress Tina Cole.

De Azevedo also worked as a postproduction executive at Universal Studios, as director of postproduction for Warner Bros. Television from 1983-93 and as director of film services for Warner Bros. Studios, where he helped develop the organizational system for the studio’s vault assets.

Known for his soulfully expressive singing voice, de Azevedo appeared with 37 family members on the ABC musical variety series The King Family Show in 1965-66 and 1969. He also performed alongside The King Family’s teen offshoot,...

Before "The Tick," and before "The Tick," but after "The Tick," there was "The Tick," the short-lived animated series that ran on Fox from 1994 to 1996. 

The Tick was a parody superhero character originally created by cartoonist Ben Edlund in 1986. The character was a massive pile of muscles wrapped in a skin-tight blue bodysuit, and sporting a tiny pair of tick antennae on his head. He was incredibly strong, incredibly noble, and not at all bright. The Tick was just as in love with the iconography of superherodom as he was with committing acts of justice. He would frequently narrate his own adventures. Ironically, his powers and outfit had absolutely nothing to do with pesky, blood-sucking arachnids. When a thug points out to the Tick that most ticks have eight legs, he confidently retorts "How do you know I don't?"

The Night Before Christmas gets the Metal Gear treatment in this special reading.

David Hayter and Cam Clarke have come together to read a very special version of The Night Before Christmas known as The Night Before Metal Gear. 

If those names don't ring a bell, that's probably because you know these gentlemen by the names of the Metal Gear Solid characters they played, Solid Snake and Liquid Snake. Yes, the twin snakes have come together once more to spread a little holiday cheer by reading a Christmas story classic (with a twist) in the voices of their respective characters. 

Their version of the story echoes some of the beats of the original tale but slowly begins to incorporate many of the events and characters from Metal Gear Solid. For instance, we don't remember the original Night Before Christmas making reference to a Hind D helicopter, nor...

Honda has released a fun new commercial that taps into the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles nostalgia. It features the classic versions of the action figures jumping around the cars showing them off and the characters are voiced by the actors from the original 80s animated series.

Those voice actors include Cam Clarke as Leonardo, Barry Gordon as Donatello, Rob Paulsen as Raphael, Townsend Coleman as Michelangelo, and Peter Renaday as Splinter.

Thanks to the interwebs, television fans can get together with likeminded people from around the world and discuss theories about their favorite shows. Fan theories are all over the place these days, and with the large fandom of Game of Thrones it may be the most theorized show of all. Many of the theories are actually supported by evidence, at least enough to make one consider the possibility, or even likelihood of it being true

One theory in particular that has been gaining steam over the last few months is that Brandon Stark is actually the Night King. The theory runs pretty deep, but a brief summary proposes that Bran’s time traveling escapades which resulted in failed attempts to save Westeros, have left him stuck in the Night King. However, one show I watched regularly in the mid to late '90s stuck with me well into adulthood, and that’s the 1994-96 animated version of The Tick.

Earlier this year saw the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the 15th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While I didn't review the film myself, I very much agree with our own Cam Clark, who gave it an A-. Thanks to its comedy, as well as its huge heart, it managed to claw its way to my top five McU films. I'd even go so far as to say I found it to be a superior experience to the first film, which is a statement I feel the need to explain.

When the trailer for the first Guardians of the Galaxy hit, I expected the film to really indulge in the weird. While it did sort of touch on it, it was very clear that it was a rather traditional film. Vol. 2 very much continues being a somewhat traditional film, but rather than play it safe, Marvel Studios...

Benioff and Weiss have really constructed something beautifully brutal over the last several years. Audiences Are Tired Of Spectacle And Hollywood Doesn't Care.

Recently we heard about a hack at HBO. The intruders were said to have acquired episodes of the shows Ballers, Room 104, and possibly the script for Game of Thrones Season 7, Episode 4. According to Entertainment Weekly, the actual episode leaked online today. A source within HBO claims the hack and the leak of the episode are not related. The source of the leak comes from one of HBO’s international affiliates, Star India, who released this statement.

"This confirms the compromise of episode 4 of Game of Thrones Season 7, earlier this afternoon. We take this breach very seriously and have immediately initiated forensic investigations at our and the technology partner’s end to swiftly determine the cause. Last Friday at Star Wars Celebration Orlando, The Star Wars: The Last Jedi teaser trailer premiered to the masses all around the world watching. Since the debut, millions of Star Wars fans have been dissecting every aspect of the trailer trying to get every detail out of it to learn more about the highly anticipated film. While some of the trailer seems to be pretty straightforward most of it seems to be un-forthcoming. The bombshell from the entire trailer came at the end when we hear Luke Skywalker's voice say "I know one thing...it's time for the Jedi to end." This got everyone wondering what he could mean since he is supposed to be the one who would bring balance to the Force. There have been multiple theories online about what Luke could possibly mean from that statement.

The classic 1980s animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back! The four brothers are returning in their original TV incarnation for a very special episode of the current Nickelodeon CGI-animated series titled Trans-Dimensional Turtles. And that's not the only big surprise this exciting crossover has in store.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles seen on Nickelodeon's current series will travel into the 80s Turtles' alternate dimension in order to defeat the Krang from that era. And the original Tmnt crew will be heading to current times to take down Krang Sub-Prime. If that wasn't awesome enough, the Turtles will also be traveling to a third dimension where another crazy surprise awaits.

Yes, we'll also be seeing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as they appeared in Kevin Eastman's Mirage Studios comic book series. If that's not enough to get you excited, then perhaps the first clip from this upcoming animated adventure will do the trick.

Nickelodeon is staging a major reunion (of sorts) later this month. We just hope the network ordered enough pizza to go around.

The March 27 episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (11/10c), titled “Trans-Dimensional Turtles,” finds the famous foursome — Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo — traveling to another dimension, where they encounter alternate versions of themselves from the original 1980s Ninja Turtles cartoon.

Cam Clarke (Leonardo), Rob Paulsen (Raphael), Barry Gordon (Donatello) and Townsend Coleman (Michelangelo) all return to voice their respective turtles, with Pat Fraley also coming back to voice the nefarious Krang.

So I just got back from Awesome Con DC 2015, and happily, it lived up to its name once again, because it was pretty darned awesome!

Strange things happen when video game producers direct movies. Especially those involving Lego. To explain, it’s not that writer/director Jon Burton didn’t try his darndest to get Lego Batman: The Movie right. The agency S.T.O.R.M. is still after him and they don’t seem to mind shooting at these kids. Now he’s got Beyal (Kirk Thornton), a kind of mystic, helping him along with Bren (Christopher Smith) and Jinja (Karen Strassman) and of course Chase’s giant bear Monsuno monster DNA thing Lock. In fact, everyone has a Monsuno monster with varying skills. Chase has to deal with Klipse an evil Monsuno scientist who used to work with Chase’s father. Add to that, a new teenage Monsuno owner, Dax (Keith Silverstein), is a Han Solo, chaotic good sort. And for some reason, Monsuno battles decide something.

Here’s a list of some of the new movie and TV shows coming to DVD and Blu-ray this week that we’re looking forward to seeing. Also, there’s some classic, and not-so-classic, movies hitting Blu-ray for the first time this week as well.

Of all the new releases, we’re particularly interested in the Blu-ray versions of movies and TV shows like The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, Monsters vs. Aliens, The Guild Seasons 1 & 2, Superman/Batman: Public Enemies and Life on Mars: The Complete Series. There’s also a new DVD box set that made us laugh out loud in its awesomeness: Cagney & Lacey: The Menopause Years. Yes, that’s real.

You can take a new animated look at the world portrayed in a summer blockbuster this November. Terminator Salvation: The Machima Series will be released on DVD on November 15. The DVD of this 74-minute animated film will be priced at $12.97 Srp and you can take a look at the cover art and special features below. The animated film stars the voices of Moon Bloodgood, Cam Clarke, Jim Meskiman, Heather Halley and Dee Baker.

The voice of Michelangelo on the highly-popular animated series takes a look back on the 25th anniversary of this creation.

Townsend Coleman was a DJ and radio personality in Cleveland, Ohio for many years, when he decided it was time to pursue his dreams of becoming an actor, and moved his family to Hollywood in 1984. Due to his radio experience, he found more work as a voice actor and in 1987 he took on the voice of a character that would be part of a cultural phenomena in the 80s and 90s: the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series. Coleman performed the voice of my personal favorite turtle, Michelangelo, and I recently had the chance to speak with him over the phone about the 25th anniversary of these wonderful characters' creation and the four-part Season 7 DVD set that was broken off into four "slices" - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Season 7, Pt.

That one-man comedy factory, Steve Oedekerk, is back with another Paramount/Nickelodeon animated feature film that, like "Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius" (which he co-wrote and produced) before it, is really just a Nick TV pilot in disguise. Indeed, "Adventures in the Barnyard" already has a spring launch date.

Unlike the Oscar-nominated "Jimmy Neutron", though, "Barnyard" (which Oedekerk wrote, directed and produced with Paul Marshal) faces a rash of animation competition this year and, quality-wise, it's not at the top of the haystack. While youngsters might enjoy the movie, more discerning tweens, teens and adults will not be as easily amused, and boxoffice prospects look modest, albeit followed by a long DVD shelf life.

The story is simple enough: When the farmer turns in for the night, the animals go wild. They walk on their hind legs, talk and party (the barn becomes a rockin' nightclub). Otis the Cow (voiced by Kevin James) is in a stalled adolescence to the consternation of his father, Ben (Sam Elliott). Ben is the animals' stern but caring leader and protector (keeping watch for preying coyotes over the barnyard each night from a hilltop). Otis is supposed to spell his dad's shifts but often makes excuses or shows up late after goofing off. When Ben gets severely injured protecting the henhouse from an attack, will Otis change his ways and be cow enough to fill his dad's hooves?

The computer-generated animation is painstakingly achieved, but it's hard to match the level set by Disney/Pixar. The coyotes, looking a lot like foxes, certainly succeed in terrifying sensitive viewers (especially, one would imagine, toddlers). Oddly, the many songs heard in the film often feel like snippets or are barely intelligible over the music track. The exception is Elliott's performance of Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne's "I Won't Back Down".

The few humans in the film are extraneous. The farmer's (Fred Tatasciore) screen time is negligible; there's a middle-aged neighbor couple (Maria Bamford and Oedekerk), whose shtick consists of a babbling wife and her tuned-out, TV-watching spouse; and there's a predictable sequence in which a kid (Oedekerk) gets paid back by the animals for a cow-tipping incident.

The animals' voices include Danny Glover (Miles the Mule), Andie MacDowell (Etta the Hen), Jeff Garcia (Pip the Mouse), Cam Clarke (Freddy the Ferret) and, as two barnyard newcomers, Courteney Cox (sweet, pregnant Daisy the Cow) and Wanda Sykes (her wisecracking pal Bessy the Cow). Special mention goes to Dom Irrera, who voices Duke the Dog and steals every scene he's in.

One nice touch is the sensitive handling of parenting for young viewers. As Otis and Daisy gradually grow closer, Otis (eventually) matures into a father figure, both for the barnyard and for Daisy's calf. Earlier, Ben had told his son that he is Otis' adopted dad and that he had found him as a baby and taken him in. In a similar vein, no mention is made of barnyard stranger Daisy's past or any romantic partner. She just shows up pregnant, allowing Otis, at the climactic birth of her calf, to very naturally slip into a paternal role for her (now their) gurgling newborn.
