Landman Season 1, Episode 10 Review: I'm Worried About Tommy After The Intense Finale Sets Up A Precarious Season 2 Future
Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Landman season 1, episode 10!Landman delivers a gripping ending with a massive, 80-minute season finale. "The Crumbs of Hope" closes out the Paramount+ show in a satisfying way that leaves room for future stories. The end of Landman episode 9 saw Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton) get a call from Cami (Demi Moore), hinting that Monty (Jon Hamm) is in a dire situation. Episode 10 confirms this at the start, with the oil tycoon needing a heart transplant he may not be strong enough to get. But this is just the setup to the finale, which sees every single story finally come to a head.

Set in West Texas, this series explores the world of oil rigs and the fortunes they create. It portrays a modern upstairs/downstairs narrative of roughnecks and billionaires, highlighting the profound impact on the climate, economy, and geopolitics in these boomtowns.

Jerry Jones' Unexpected Cameo in Taylor Sheridan's ‘Landman,’ Explained
Image
With one episode remaining in Landman's inaugural season, all eyes turn to see how Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton) and Cami (Demi Moore) will handle the inevitable cartel confrontation when the finale airs on January 12, 2025. Of course, one episode prior, "WolfCamp," featured a wildly unexpected cameo appearance from Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, a master media manipulator who understands how to control a public narrative.

Then again, on closer inspection, Jones' cameo is more pertinent to Landman's themes than may first appear. His grand monologue may fudge a few facts and streamline his background, but heeding Jones' advice may be more valuable than one might expect for a show about the highly profitable oil and gas industry. For more context, here's everything to know about Jerry Jones' Landman cameo.

Landman Season 1, Episode 9 Review: Angela & Ainsley Are Way Too Removed From The Main Storyline Ahead Of A High-Octane Finale
Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Landman season 1, episode 9!Following last week's explosive ending, Landman episode 9 touches on every member of the Norris family, laying the groundwork for endings and beginnings in the upcoming season finale. Each storyline delivered important information that set the stage for the final episode, with the cast of Landman putting on some of their most memorable performances to date. However, the penultimate episode's foundations shook as it lacked the focus of the last few. While this dampened some elements, it also built anticipation for next week's curtain call.

Set in West Texas, this series explores the world of oil rigs and the fortunes they create. It portrays a modern upstairs/downstairs narrative of roughnecks and billionaires, highlighting the profound impact on the climate, economy, and geopolitics in these boomtowns.

Alien Country Review: Laughing in the Face of Extraterrestrial Threats
Image
Set in the dusty town of Blue River, Utah, Alien Country is a funny story about how small-town life and chaos from other worlds collide. We are introduced to Jimmy Walker (K.C. Clyde), a demolition derby driver, and Everly (Renny Grames), a singer-songwriter who just found out she’s pregnant. The film’s beating heart is this delicate balance between personal stakes and cosmic disaster.

The event that started it all—a portal accident that let bio-engineered alien creatures loose—is a metaphor for a split. The alien attack throws the town’s routine off, turning everyday problems into life-or-death ones. Jimmy and Everly’s struggles reflect bigger themes: the fear of the unknown and the search for identity in a world that is changing quickly as they confront their impending parenthood amidst chaos.

In this light, Alien Country becomes a commentary on our internal battles, encouraging viewers to find...

In the meantime, Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton), Angela (Ali Larter), and Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) are getting used to their lives together, sometimes in ways that meander more than previous episodes.

Landman Season 1, Episode 6 Review: Riveting Drama Series Masterfully Pulls Back To Center The Norris Family's Darkest Hour
Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Landman season 1, episode 6!Despite its ups and downs, Landman has always been about the Norris family. Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton) trying to make amends with his ex-wife, Angela (Ali Larter), and daughter, Ainsley (Michelle Randolph), has been one of the show's core elements. Fans Have Noticed Striking Similarities Between 'Landman' and 'Yellowstone
Image
As Taylor Sheridan continues to be one of the busiest scribes working on television today, the Yellowstone and Landman creator may have connected the two series through one piece of dialog. Following the fourth episode of Landman on Paramount+, fans noticed a nearly verbatim line spoken by Yellowstone's Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly). The quotation is so similar that some have suggested it's a low-key Easter Egg, while others have flat-out accused Sheridan of lazy writing.

While Sheridan may be laying the groundwork to tie in one of his multiple Yellowstone spin-offs, including 6666 and The Madison, a closer look at the repeated dialog may help clear up the facts. Whether an Easter egg or a product of hasty storytelling, it's clear that the blue-collar characters in Landman and Yellowstone do not care for those with higher education.

'She Is a Handful': Landman Star Ali Larter Dishes on Angela & Tommy
Image
The following contains spoilers for Landman Season 1, Episode 4, "The Sting of Second Chances," now streaming on Paramount+.

Angela Russo has been Landman's most unpredictable character. Tommy Norris's ex-wife, played by Resident Evil star Ali Larter, flew back from her vacation and decided to stir up trouble in Texas. But underneath her quips and country club antics, Angela still has a massive amount of unresolved feelings about Tommy and their family. How does Larter balance the two?

With Landman Season 1, Episode 4, "The Sting of Second Chances" revealing that Tommy and Angela are rekindling their relationship, Cbr spoke to Larter about her approach to her character. She also spoke about how the Paramount+ series is enabling her to play a kind of role that she hasn't portrayed since Legally Blonde. And what else drew her to Angela in the first place?

Cbr: In four episodes, Angela has definitely shaken up Landman.

Here’s What All the ‘Landman’ Oil Worker Slang Means
Image
As Billy Bob Thornton continues to lead Landman to success on Paramount+, viewers are learning about the unique oil industry vernacular in West Texas. Created by Taylor Sheridan, the series follows Thornton's Tommy Norris, a crisis management employee for the billion-dollar oil and gas sector. As Tommy tries to make his oil company as rich as possible, he must deal with several external factors and industry competitors.

With four episodes aired thus far, those tuning in to Landman will surely have questions about the specific professional jargon used by the roughnecks in the oil and gas industry. A handy vocabulary guide can be used as a cheat sheet to help make sense of the diction used in the TV series. From Worm and Ginsel to Chainhand and Toolpusher, these are the most important industry terms featured in Landman.

Billy Bob Thornton Already Played A Character With Tommy Norris’ Crass Sense Of Humor 19 Years Before Landman
Image
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Landman episode 3.Long before he played Tommy Norris in Landman, Billy Bob Thornton portrayed another character with the same hilariously crass sense of humor. Billy Bob Thornton is one of the best working actors in Hollywood, and he's dominated both movies and TV shows for decades. From drama to romance to Westerns like Tombstone, Thornton has essentially done it all. His most recent role, as Tommy in Landman, has highlighted his comedy skills, but Taylor Sheridan's series is far from the first time Thornton has played a hilarious and unrefined character.

In recent years, Billy Bob Thornton has mostly been known for his dramatic roles. His long-running role on the show Goliath and in the film The Gray Man both put him in rather serious positions, and he played them exceptionally well. Viewers who are less familiar with Thornton's early work may have...

Frightfest Halloween 2024: ‘Alien Country’ Review
Image
Stars: Renny Grames, K.C. Clyde, Joseph Reidhead, Austin Archer, Charan Prabhakar, Barta Heiner | Written by Boston McConnaughey, Renny Grames | Directed by Boston McConnaughey

Director Boston McConnaughey co-wrote Alien Country with Renny Grames who, as well as being one of the film’s stars, is also his wife and collaborator on several shorts for their YouTube Channel. The film grew out of the making of those shorts and, from the start of writing to release, took up nine years of their lives. That’s a lot of time to invest in a project, was the finished product worth it?

Alien Country gets off to a fast start as a dirt bike rider runs from the police. Despite going off-road and jumping a river, he eventually finds himself trapped. He releases a strange glowing object from his bag before making a run for it on foot.

Nineteen years later Everly is making her own exit on foot,...

Kc Clyde and Renny Grames in Alien Country

Frightfest is, without a doubt, one of the world’s greatest horror films, and every year, on the weekend closest to Halloween, fans queue up to get a good scare there. All fear would be no fun, though. The art of festival curation is balance, enabling audience members to go up and down emotionally. A good horror comedy is just the thing to help with that, and this year it’s the turn of Alien Country. Directed by Boston McConnaughey, who co-wrote it with his partner, producer and star Renny Grames, it follows the latter’s character, Everly, and her boyfriend Jimmy (Kc Clyde) as they navigate two major life crises: first an unplanned pregnancy and then an alien invasion, which sees them plunged into a position where they may be the only ones who can save the Earth.

“As far as feature films go,...

I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer: unpopular sequel heads to Blu-ray
Image
A couple months ago, we heard that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of the slasher sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer by giving the film a 4K release, just like they did for its predecessor I Know What You Did Last Summer last year. Now we’ve learned that the unpopular trilogy capper I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (watch it Here) will also be getting a new release on the same day I Still Know reaches 4K (September 26th) – but this will be a Blu-ray release instead of 4K.

Directed by Sylvain White (who replaced Damon Santostefano two weeks before filming began) from a screenplay written by Michael D. Weiss, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer is about a group of small town teens who accidentally kill a fellow friend in a 4th of July prank.

Jason Patric & Danny Trejo in First Trailer for Action Western 'Big Kill'
"See to it you pass through quickly." Archstone Distribution has released the official trailer for an action western thriller titled Big Kill, the latest feature from Texas-born filmmaker Scott Martin (Battle Force). The pitch for this one actually sounds pretty good: A tenderfoot from Philadelphia, two misfit gamblers on the run, and a deadly preacher have a date with destiny in a boom town gone bust called Big Kill. Starring Christoph Sanders, Jason Patric, Michael Pare, Lou Diamond Phillips, Clint Hummel, K.C. Clyde, Stephanie Beran, and Danny Trejo. This ain't no Coen Brothers western, but then again nothing is. It's a nice twist the town is named "Big Kill". This looks like it has some grit, but I'm not too sure about it. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Scott Martin's Big Kill, direct from YouTube: A tenderfoot from Philadelphia, two misfit gamblers on the run, and a...

Karla Souza Stars in Official Trailer for 'Everybody Loves Somebody'
"All you've ever done is leave. Everybody loves somebody eventually..." Aw, charming and true. Pantelion Films has debuted the trailer for an indie romantic comedy titled Everybody Loves Somebody, from Mexican filmmaker Catalina Aguilar Mastretta, about a big wedding in Mexico. During her trip home for a wedding, her "crazy" family provides her with some guidance for her life. The full cast includes José María Yazpik, Ben O'Toole, K.C. Clyde, Tiaré Scanda, Patricia Bernal, and Alejandro Camacho. This probably won't appeal to everyone, but it does have some charm. Now this is one for the books, a direct to DVD “traditional” war film starring Dolph Lundgren and Luke Goss, thematically similar to classics like The Dirty Dozen and Inglorious Bastards. But that’s what War Pigs is, an old-school WW2-set war film about a small group of soldiers, the titular war pigs, put together to infiltrate a German army camp and disable the weapon stored there…

Following a botched raid, disgraced World War II army captain Jack Wosick (Goss) is given the opportunity for redemption when asked to lead a rag-tag unit of misfits known as the War Pigs on a secret mission to go behind enemy lines.
