24: We turn back the clock on one of television’s most engaging sensations starring Kiefer Sutherland
Image
24 was created by writer/producers Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran. The pair met in the early 1980s when they worked on the 1981 prime-time soap opera Falcon Crest. The two struck up a friendship and began working together on other shows; one of the most memorable ones was The Commish. In 1997, the duo created the cult classic action-drama series La Femme Nikita, which lasted five seasons.

After the series’s cancellation, Surnow and Cochran tried to develop a new show they could pitch to Fox. Surnow had the idea of a TV series with 24 episodes in a season that would take place in real-time. Joel called Robert Cochran and told him his idea, to which Cochran replied, “That’s the stupidest Idea I have ever heard; it will never work.” But Joel insisted, and they met the next day at an Ihop to flesh out the concept. After a few...

10 Best TV Shows Like Hulu's Paradise
Image
There may be trouble in "Paradise," but that's just how we like it. The hit Hulu series (created by "This Is Us" showrunner Dan Fogelman) landed on the streamer in 2025 to positive reviews and much buzz, quickly making a case for itself as one of James Marsden's best TV shows ever. The "X-Men" alum plays slain U.S. President Cal Bradford, whose sudden death sends Secret Service agent Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown) on a winding mystery through a post-apocalyptic America.

Along the way, Xavier comes across hidden clues, government secrets, and deep state conspiracies, all hallmarks of a story rooted in a subgenre that is perhaps the guiltiest of pleasures -- the speculative political thriller. Stories under this umbrella can just as easily be titillating, smartly written, and dramatically engrossing as they are oblivious, self-important, and totally ridiculous. Sometimes, a story can be all these things at once,...

The Correct Order To Watch Kiefer Sutherland's 24 Franchise
Image
Joel Surnow's and Robert Cochran's espionage series "24" debuted on November 6, 2001, and boy howdy was American ready for it. "24" followed the travails and missions of a special law enforcement agency called the Counter-Terrorist Unit and focused primarily on its ethics-optional star agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland). Every season of "24" revealed that evil international terrorists had secured some kind of doomsday device and Jack Bauer had to run around Los Angeles locating baddies, torturing them for information, and kicking in whatever heads needed kicking.

The show took off in popularity, largely because it matched the politics of the time. It debuted only a month after 9/11, and the "get the terrorists" rhetoric of the George W. Bush administration was already proliferating into entertainment. Americans had a lot of militant anger, and TV violence took on a darker edge. "24" was maybe the purest example of the way pop...

I Hope Netflix's 24 Replacement Doesn't Run For Nearly As Long As The Jack Bauer Show Did
Image
The Night Agent is the perfect show for those missing 24, and season 2 is coming soon. Like 24, The Night Agent is a high-stakes political thriller revolving around one main character. The Night Agent should learn from 24's mistakes and end before its acclaim declines (even if it's only slightly).

Even though 24 was outstanding during its prime, the TV series slightly overstayed its welcome, and my hope is that a similar show on Netflix won't suffer from the same fate. The Fox action drama, created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran, premiered in 2001 and ended in 2010, lasting for eight seasons and 192 episodes before the network brought it back for one more season (24: Live Another Day) in 2014. Over the course of its run, many praised 24 for being one of the best shows on TV, but critical consensus started to somewhat wane towards the end.

In between seasons 6 and 7 of 24, Fox released 24: Redemption,...

24 Movie Now in the Works, but Will Kiefer Sutherland Return?
Image
Cue the beeps, as a movie adaptation of the behemoth action series hit 24 is in the works. The original show starred Kiefer Sutherland as no-nonsense US counter-terrorist federal agent Jack Bauer, and reports have revealed that a new adventure is now in early development courtesy of 20th Century Studios.

As per Variety, it is currently unknown whether the movie adaptation of 24 will bring back Bauer for more, or whether it will focus on a new cast of characters. However, according to Imagine Entertainment co-founder Brian Grazer (who was an executive producer on the original series), the studio believes there is potential for huge success by putting 24 on the big screen.

Imagine has always played in that zone where there is that high probability chance that it will be successful in movie theaters. Its great for us, because weve built, over 30 years, over 100 different products and brands, whether its Backdraft,...

’24’ Movie In Early Development At 20th Century And Imagine Entertainment
Image
20th Century and Imagine Entertainment are in early development on a feature adaptation of the hit Fox series 24.

The studio could not be reached for comment.

Created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran for Fox, 24 originally ran for nine seasons between 2001 and 2014, and spawned a television film called “Redemption” in 2008. Kiefer Sutherland starred as Jack Bauer, an agent from the U.S. government’s fictitious “Counter Terrorist Unit” (CTU).

Imagine co-founder Brian Grazer hinted at a potential feature version of the series in a recent interview with CNBC also saying that a Backdraft reboot wasin the works with Glen Powell.

As of now no plot details are unknown and it is also unknown if Sutherland will return to play Bauer.

’24’ Film in Early Development at 20th Century, Produced By Brian Grazer
Image
A film adaptation of the popular television series “24” is in early development at 20th Century Studios, sources tell Variety.

Imagine Entertainment co-founder Brian Grazer teased the project during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Squawk Box” in June.

“Imagine has always played in that zone where there is that high probability chance that it will be successful in movie theaters. It’s great for us, because we’ve built, over 30 years, over 100 different products and brands, whether it’s ‘Backdraft,’ which I’m now going to do today with Glen Powell, or whether it’s ’24,’ a movie that we’re going to do in a very interesting way with Disney and Fox.”

Grazer also spoke to the Hollywood’s current outlook on selecting “already established” IP with “a high level of awareness,” adding, “These formats of the late 90s and the 2000s have become very important, because the streamers…...

24's Perfect Replacement Show Is On Netflix (& Season 2 Is On Its Way)
Image
The Night Agent on Netflix is a high-stakes political thriller similar to 24. The Night Agent's timeline isn't as restricted as 24's real-time structure, but its themes, characters, and action make it comparable to the Fox TV series. The Night Agent season 2 will likely premiere in late 2024 or early 2025.

24 was known for its high-stakes action and thrilling drama, and even though the TV show has been off the air for 10 years, Netflix debuted 24's perfect replacement in 2023 (and its second season is just around the corner). The Fox series, created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran, premiered in November 2001 and ran for nine seasons before officially ending in July 2014. 24 follows Jack Bauer, played by Kiefer Sutherland, and Jack is an agent working for the Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) who tries to prevent terrorist threats like assassinations, bombings, biological warfare, and more.

24 season 8 originally served as the action drama's final season,...

’24’: THR’s 2001 Review
Image
On Nov. 6, 2001, the Kiefer Sutherland-starrer from Imagine Television bowed on Fox in the 9 p.m. hour, kickstarting a franchise that aired for more than a decade. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review is below:

No question, there are some eerie similarities between the premiere episode of 24 and the terrible events of Sept 11. The tightly woven drama includes vague warnings of terrorist activity, an assassination plot and an imperiled airliner. But instead of causing discomfort, 24 grabs you by the collar and simply won’t let go. Few shows are ever this riveting.

A creation of exec producers Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran, 24 employs a couple of novel but extremely effective story telling techniques. First, it unravels its story in real time, with each hour on the screen representing an hour in the life of its characters. Second, it makes frequent use of split-screen shots, showing different angles of the same...

24: Legacy spoiler-free episode 1 review
Chris Longo Feb 16, 2017

CTU has a new hero. Here are some spoiler-free thoughts on Fox's new reboot, 24: Legacy, which arrived in the UK last night...

As cynical and sick of franchises, reboots, revivals, and remakes as we are or pretend to be in the comments section (everyone seemed pretty stoked about Rogue One), audiences are smart enough to know that Hollywood won’t budge on this trend anytime soon. They’ll shake every last dollar they can get out of the Revival Era as long as we keep our sticky fingers on our smartphones, tablets, and remotes.

Kiefer Sutherland at an event for 24 (2001)
Fox Broadcasting Company (Fox) has given series orders to new dramas 24: Legacy and Star. Both series are scheduled to premiere in the upcoming 2016-2017 season. 24: Legacy is the next chapter in the groundbreaking and award-winning action series from Emmy Award-winning executive producer Howard Gordon (Homeland, 24: Live Another Day), Academy Award- and Emmy Award-winning executive producer Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind, 24), writers and executive producers Manny Coto and Evan Katz (24, 24: Live Another Day), director and executive producer Stephen Hopkins (24) and executive producer and original series star Kiefer Sutherland.

Starring Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton), Miranda Otto (Homeland) and Jimmy Smits (Sons of Anarchy), 24: Legacy chronicles an adrenaline-fueled race against the clock to stop a devastating terrorist attack on United States soil - in the same real-time format that has propelled this genre-defining series. Fox hasn't announced how many episodes of 24: Legacy will be produced, or when the series may debut.

'24: Live Another Day' producer reveals who almost got killed off in the finale
Howard Gordon at an event for Homeland (2011)
[Spoiler alert: This post discusses details from the July 14 season finale of 24: Live Another Day.]

24: Live Another Day could have been Jack Bauer’s last day. Executive producer Howard Gordon revealed to Deadline that the writers considered killing off the counter-terrorism agent in the season finale of the limited series.

“We certainly tried out a lot of different endings and we rearranged the furniture every which way in the room,” Gordon said. “So we knew what it looked like for other characters to have met with different ends and we tried them all on, up to and including Jack himself. This has always been a show that is really about the days and the...

’24: Live Another Day’, Ep. 1.11, “9:00 Pm – 10:00 Pm” streamlines the action
24: Live Another Day, Season 1, Episode 11: “9:00 Pm – 10:00Pm”

Written by Robert Cochran & David Fury

Directed by Jon Cassar

Airs Mondays at 9pm (Et) on Fox

Call it the calm before the storm. After a couple of weeks in which the action has been fairly frequent, the focus is narrowing as this season nears a close. This is a streamlined, effective episode that hits all the beats it needs to without much fluff. There are a few loose ends to tie up, and the wham-bam is a touch thin, but they’re necessary movements.

Jack has a busy hour, first with squirming out of the Russian assault (thanks to some backup), before discovering that Cheng has resurfaced to snare the override, learning that Mark was involved with the attack, and forcing Mark to help them capture the Russian bad guy. Oh, and he has his long-awaited heart-to-heart with...

And so we must say farewell to one of the finest actors to have graced this show. And what a way to go out.

There is more than a scent of resigned doddering in this week’s outing. Jack’s mission is fairly rote, as he needs to get Heller out of the presidential enclave without anyone knowing, but it accounts for much of the running time. He forms an uneasy alliance with Mark, who keeps almost everyone else in the administration occupied while Jack and Heller make a beeline for the rendezvous with Margot.

Yet the president and the terrorist never get to meet face to face. There’s no hidden agenda in Heller’s decision to hand himself over to his foe.

The ticking clock was reset for 24: Live Another Day, the groundbreaking and thrilling event series that follows heroic agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland), now a fugitive from justice. 24 Season 9 To Fill In 17 Stray Hours Before The Finale,New Details
Recently, TV Line talked with 24's executive producer, Howard Gordon, and he dished that 17 missing hours is going to eventually get filled in, some way, some how before the finale show airs on July 14th. Currently, season 9: Live Another Day has been running in real time, meaning only 7 hours have passed, leaving this other 17 hours out there just waiting to be made up. However, Howard couldn't reveal any more than that as he claimed, "We’ve been sworn to secrecy.” Additionally, they asked if Kiefer Sutherland aka Jack ,might pass the torch to the very hot Yvonne Strahovksi aka Kate Morgan if 24 gets renewed for a new 10th season. Co-creator, Robert Cochran and Howard answered by stating: "I think it’s a possibility. There are no specific plans right now, but that’s the kind of thing we’d consider. The format itself is very sturdy and with the...

24 Boss: Time Jump Is Coming -- Plus, Might Jack Pass the Baton to Kate?
Drone Strike (2013)
Jack Bauer’s latest terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day will span a full 24 hours… dammit.

But every one of those 17 hours will be accounted for by the time the finale fades to black on July 14, executive producer Howard Gordon confirmed for TVLine during a Friday conference call.

24 co-creator on Jack Bauer's future
Is 24: Live Another Day going to be Jack Bauer's final outing? Spoilers...

News

Warning: contains potential spoilers for 24: Live Another Day.

It's one thing for an actor to express an opinion about the future of a TV show, as Mary Lynn Rajskub did when she told TV Guide of 24: Live Another Day, "I would be really surprised if they didn't do more after this instalment". It's another when their opinion chimes with that of the co-creator and producer.

Discussing the future of Jack Bauer, 24's Robert Cochran has told TV Guide, "We're not going to kill him, I can guarantee that!", which very much leaves the door open for more 24 'event miniseries' in the style of Live Another Day.

As London has been so essential a backdrop to the new series so far, surely new locations are on the cards for any future instalments. Cochran, we note from his IMDb page,...

Jack Bauer is further outside the system that made his name than he’s ever been, both literally and figuratively.

On the run for years after supposed terrorist acts that actually protected American citizens, he resurfaces in London, far away from the U.S. metropolises he saved so many times. It’s the first time 24 has left the confines of the States for an entire season, though the show previously took a several-episode detour to Mexico and placed Jack in Africa for the 24: Redemption TV movie.

With the refreshed setting, there are many differences to the show’s previous incarnation.

Kiefer Sutherland at an event for 24 (2001)
Will There Be More 24?
Kiefer Sutherland at an event for 24 (2001)
Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) came back from the TV grave to Live Another Day on Fox, but is this it for the 24 hero?  "I think if this does well, I can't see any reason not to do another 12," Robert Cochran, 24 co-creator, told E! News at the 24: Live Another Day premiere. The original 24 ran for nine seasons from 2001-2010 on Fox. After the series ended, there was talk of bringing Jack Bauer back on the big screen. Eventually, those discussions halted and the stars aligned, so to speak, and Jack returned to TV. "A movie's possible," Cochran said. "I believe the real-time format lends itself to television more than it does to a movie and it's its natural habitat....

24: Live Another Day - 3 TV Spots and a Clip
Fox has released three TV spots and a clip from 24: Live Another Day. The series premiers on May 5th, which is this coming Monday! I can't believe it's almost here. I love this franchise, and I'm excited about seeing Kiefer Sutherland back as Jack Bauer. I really hope that this is just the beginning, and that we will get even more seasons of the show, and possibly a movie.

The high-octane saga reunites the Emmy Award-winning team of executive producer Howard Gordon; star and executive producer Kiefer Sutherland; co-creator Robert Cochran; executive producers, Evan Katz, Manny Coto, David Fury, Brian Grazer and director Jon Cassar. It also will retain the real-time, pulse-pounding, fast-paced format with split screens and interweaving storylines. Set and shot in London, the suspenseful event series once again will follow the exploits of heroic agent Jack Bauer.

Four years ago, Jack was a fugitive from justice.

Seitz: 24: Live Another Day Picks Up Right Where Jack Bauer Left Off, Trusting No One and Nothing
It's hard to write an advance review of 24: Live Another Day without spoiling something.  This long-delayed, 12-episode revival of Fox's action hit is, like every other season of 24, obsessed with plot, plot, plot, plot, plot. If I even tell you who's in the damn thing, I'm ruining something. This series from Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran is all about what happens next: the complications, misdirections, and sudden, often ludicrous twists; the surprising but spot-on bits of casting unveiled with a magician's fanfare. (When a key bad guy is revealed at the end of the second episode, you're staring at the back of the character's head for a long time, then suddenly you get a different angle and go, Oh my God, it's [Redacted]! I love [Redacted]!), at which point the sadistic showrunners cut to black.)Suffice to say that Live Another Day is set in a depressive blue-tinted London, where...

Talking to the site, the actor had this to say about returning to the role of the iconic former CTU Agent after such a long time: “It was very stressful, making the choice to come back,” he revealed. “That sense of responsibility to the show has not dissipated at all. When we started out, I said to [director Jon Cassar] to watch me like a hawk. If there was something that wasn’t feeling right, don’t wait to see if it works its way out. I was very scared I couldn’t remember Jack. It had been awhile.”

Also below is a new featurette focusing on the return of...

24: Live Another Day Releases New Promo Teaser
Getting people psyched up for the new 24 series, 24: Live Another Day, may strike many people as something along the lines of Coke commercials. At this point, are you really selling to anyone? We all know whether or not we’re interested in Coke.

Still, despite the idea that pulling in the completely uninitiated may be a questionable pursuit, Fox is pretty clear on the idea that it wants to make sure it doesn’t miss anyone. The new teaser doesn’t exactly give you a lot to go on, perhaps in a way similar to the idea that Coke commercials don’t exactly explain the product. But, it does at least give you the impression that it may pull off the difficult and dangerous attempt of standing next to the previous entries. I’m not absolutely convinced that this is a game we can keep playing, but the trailer looks good.

First Footage from 24: Live Another Day Featured in New Teaser Trailer
Jack is back! We saw some intriguing teasers during this year’s Super Bowl and a new batch of stills just a few days ago, but Fox have now released a trailer with actual footage from 24: Live Another Day. The majority of the series was shot in London, and it quickly becomes clear that the city and its landmarks will form an important backdrop to proceedings.

Branded a psychopath and traitor, it’s obvious that Jack is still on the run in this follow-up to season eight’s cliffhanger, while his very ominous, “There’s no going for me” line and the that fact he’s trying to avert a world war serve as proof that this season of 24 may just have the highest stakes yet for the former CTU Agent.

You can check out the first official stills from 24: Live Another Day by clicking here. 24: Live...

24: Live Another Day Gets A Superbowl Teaser
Bullet holes in a Union Jack. An up-turned black cab. The Gherkin. A red bus. A red telephone box. A man in a flatcap. The face of Elizabeth Tower (though let's just call it Big Ben for recognition's sake). Explosions. Jack Bauer is in London, and it's not to take the duck tour - it's to shoot a teaser for his new appearance in 24: Live Another Day, out on U.S. TV screens in May.The Us Fox network is bringing Jack back for a “limited series” season of 12 episodes that will find the perpetually time-crunched CTU agent moved to London for a new mission. Somehow, that will involve the Prime Minister, with Stephen Fry taking that role. Zachary Levi and Yvonne Strahovski in Chuck (2007)
The chance to watch Kiefer Sutherland run around London duffing up terrorists while shouting “Damnit!” has attracted yet another name. Chuck/Dexter veteran Yvonne Strahovski is joining the cast of the new miniseries spin-off 24: Live Another Day.As you may know by now, the Us Fox network is bringing Jack back for a “limited series” new season of 12 episodes that will find the perpetually time-crunched CTU agent shifted to London for a new mission. Strahovski is aboard as Kate Morgan, a brilliant but impulsive CIA operative stationed in the city.
