Executive producer Willow Grylls has been appointed as co-chief executive officer of New Pictures, whose output includes “The Missing” and “Catherine the Great,” working alongside existing CEO Charlie Pattinson. Elaine Pyke also takes on a new role as creative director.

Grylls joined Pattinson and George Faber’s Company Pictures when it was set up, working initially in film development as well as business affairs. She then became a producer and series producer for television commencing with Martina Cole’s “The Take” for Sky One, starring Tom Hardy. She co-founded New Pictures alongside Pattinson and Pyke in 2013, executive producing across New Pictures output and specifically “The Missing,” “The Missing II” for BBC One/Starz, “Rellik” for BBC One/Cinemax, and “Requiem” for BBC One/Netflix.

She achieved further success recently with critically successful ITV drama “White House Farm,” which gained a consolidated 8 million viewers, becoming one of the most successful dramas on the channel this year.

Exclusive: Virginia Woolf adaptation Flush is being sold in Cannes.

Joseph Fiennes is to make his feature directorial debut on the Virginia Woolf adaptation Flush, one of several titles from London-based production company Genesius that The Little Film Company is touting to Cannes buyers.

Flush is scheduled to shoot in the UK at the end of the year and centres on a jealous cocker spaniel that tries to come between its owner and her lover when they plan to elope.

Debbie Gray of Genesius produces and Ellen Little and Genesius’ Julian Gleek are executive producers.

The slate includes The Ladykiller, which Tim Fywell is lining up to direct in September based on Martina Cole’s crime thriller.

Gray produces with Cole and Chris Whiteside, while Gleek handles executive producer duties.

Lesley Manning will direct sci-fi thriller Extrasensory, about twins involved in a secret Russian space mission. Gray produces with Gleek on board as executive producer.

The companies have scheduled shooting dates for The Ladykiller and The More You Ignore Me.

The Little Film Company and Genesius Entertainment have set principal photography dates for two of their latest feature film projects, after previously teaming on Hamlet and Northern Soul.

First film The Ladykiller, set to be the first of a trilogy, has Tim Fywell (Ice Princess) attached to direct John Hales’ adaptation of Martina Cole’s novel of the same name.

The film’s story follows a man who takes the law into his own hands after his daughter falls prey to a serial killer. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in Spring 2016 in the UK.

Producers are Debbie Gray, Martina Cole and Chris Whiteside.

Second film The More You Ignore Me is based on comedian Jo Brand’s novel about mental illness, written using her experiences as a psychiatric health worker.

Exclusive: Robbie Little’s The Little Film Company swings into the Afm looking to find a Us buyer and close outstanding territories on UK art house smash Northern Soul.

Elaine Constantine directed the story about the 1970s Us music craze that swept large parts of northern England.

The film has grossed more than £400,000 since opening in theatres on October 17 through Universal Pictures sub-licensee Monroe.

In its first seven days Northern Soul grossed an average of £908 per show from no more than 80 cinemas.

According to Little and other participants on the film, the figure ranks ahead of comparable grosses for Gone Girl and The Judge.

The film opened across digital platforms on October 20 and remains in theatres.

“We’ve had people dancing in the aisles and people queuing up round the block,” said Constantine, currently in the Us doing a project for the New York Times.

Rising star Joanna Vanderham is to star as Denise Lovett, a young girl who works in a department store and gets caught up in the charms of the modern world, in a new period drama series Paradise, coming to BBC One, from Bill Gallagher, the writer of Lark Rise to Candleford.

Joanna (represented by Ken McReddie Associates) is originally from Dundee and landed the lead role of Cathy in Martina Cole's The Runaway for Sky1, alongside Jack O'Connell, whilst she was still at drama school in Cardiff. Could it be that the crew of "Pan Am" will fly again?

Deadline is reporting that the period drama, which will more than likely not be renewed by ABC, may have a future on cable. The show, which stars Christina Ricci, Margot Robbie and Michael Mosley, is much more popular in Europe than it ever was in the U.S. It is this that may lead Sony TV, the program's producer, to look for alternate venues for the series.

As a sign of further popularity overseas, on Thursday (May 10) "Pan Am" was named "Best Series" at the Rose d'Or TV awards, Europe's equivalent of the Emmys. It beat out British programs "Martina Cole's the Runaway" and "The Jury."

Encore is moving into the original programming business come August. Encore Originals will kick off Aug. 1 with Moby Dick, an on-screen adaptation of Herman Melville’s classic novel. The three hour miniseries stars William Hurt as Captain Ahab and Ethan Hawke as his first mate Starbuck, and also boasts Gillian Anderson and Donald Sutherland in supporting roles.

Starz Entertainment's Encore is taking aim at original programming, unveiling today plans to air the novel adaptation Moby Dick that stars William Hurt, Ethan Hawke and Gillian Anderson as well as a Tom Hardy-starring mini The Take based on Martina Cole's best-selling crime novel. Moby Dick is a three-hour mini that will air over two nights Aug. 1 and Aug. 2. Hurt will play Captain Ahab, Hawke is his first mate Starbuck and Anderson is Ahab's wife; Donald Sutherland and Raoul Trujillo also star. Rhi, Tele Munchen and Gate Filmproduktion produced. Tomorrow, Sky 1 brings Martina Cole’s gritty crime novel The Runaway to the screen, with the first in a six-part drama, which will star a liberal smattering of British talent including Alan Cumming, Joanna Vanderham and volatile relative new-comer Jack O’ Connell. And lucky devil that I am, I’ve got my hands on the first two episodes for an early review.

If you haven’t yet come across any of the pre-release marketing, the official Sky synopsis goes like this:

Skins star Jack O’Connell will portray Bobby Charlton in a film about the Munich air disaster that killed several of Manchester United’s young players, known as the Busby Babes.

The film, called United, is based on the true story of Manchester United's legendary "Busby Babes", the youngest side ever to win the Football League, the 1958 Munich Air Crash that claimed eight of the their number and the extraordinary spirit of a city that rebuilt the team in the wake of the disaster. It will also star David Tennant as Manchester United trainer Jimmy Murphy. The tragic events of that day will be seen through the eyes of Charlton (O'Connell), who was on the plane that crashed that February day in 1958.

Ahoy me hearties – Sky1 HD are going full steam ahead with a 21st Century spin on Sinbad the Sailor. Stuart Murphy, director of programmes, today announced the 13-part series, which is being produced by Impossible Pictures, the company behind Primeval. The new show, called Sinbad, will be written by the award-winning cream of television’s writing crop including Jack Lothian (Ashes To Ashes, Shameless) and Neil Biswas (Skins, Martina Cole’s The Take).

The pay-tv giant has struck an exclusive output deal to be the only place to watch HBO shows from now on. Boardwalk Empire, Martin Scorsese’s series about Atlantic City gangsters, will be the first show to air through the deal in the autumn. Future HBO shows airing exclusively will include Game of Thrones and Luck, executive produced by Michael Mann and starring Dustin Hoffman. The next series of HBO shows such as Entourage and Big Love will also air exclusively on the channel. Sky1 has revealed the cast for its forthcoming Martina Cole adaptation The Runaway. London -- "Grey's Anatomy" star Sandra Oh will head the cast in Sky 1's fall police thriller "thorne: scaredy cat," alongside David Morrissey, Eddie Marsan and Aidan Gillen. The project will premiere on Sky and then seek international theatrical release.

Oh will play Detective Sergeant Sandra Chen, part of a London cop squad investigating a grisly series of murders that take place around London's St Pancras station.

The three-part drama is a sequel to "thorne: sleepyhead," which also starred Natascha McElhone. Both will premiere on Sky 1 HD in the fall and will then be released as two separate movies, to be distributed by ContentFilm.

Based on the award-winning crime novels of Mark Billingham, the series sees Morrissey play Detective Inspector Tom Thorne.

Martina Cole's The Take bowed out to strong ratings last night, according to the latest figures. The final instalment of the drama, starring Charlotte Riley and Tom Hardy, pulled in 608k (3.4%) for Sky1 during the 9pm hour. Two weeks ago, the show debuted to 648k (3.3%). Also on the multichannel stations, Gossip Girl logged a lowly 174k (1%) for ITV2. Elsewhere at 9pm, ITV1's Cops With Cameras put in 3.14m (16%), making it the most-watched programme during the hour. Its nearest rival, BBC One's Waking The Dead, had 2.62m (13.4%).
