The UK’s Isabelle Stead, Canada’s George Ayoub and Australia’s Kristian Moliere are among those selected for this year’s Producers Lab Toronto.

The24 producers from Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand will participate in the fifth edition of the networking platform, which runs Sept 3-6 during the Toronto International Film Festival (Sept 4-14).

Plt is targeted at producers who have had previous experience in working on international co-productions and now have projects in the pipeline that could be interesting for the international market.

From Blood and Donuts and Ginger Snaps to Splice and, his latest, Haunter, producer Steve Hoban has been a staple in the Canadian horror scene since the mid Nineties.

He’s now working again with director Vincenzo Natali on a new experimental web series called Darknet that should be making its way onto television here in the States in the near future. For now, as of 12:01am this morning, fans can watch the first installment over at Darknetfiles.com. And, believe me, it’s worth checking out. Consisting of interweaving storylines and connected characters in different instances of urban horror, the first episode runs about 25 minutes and features some really solid, well-crafted moments. Just before the debut, Hoban was kind of enough to speak with us for a few minutes to talk about the series.

Directed by Vincenzo Natali ("Splice"), the pilot below is for "Darknet," an intriguing new horror anthology series that will air on Canada's Super Channel and on the website darknetfiles.com. Described as being made up of "snippets of people's lives being interrupted by vivid instances of unexpected violence or shocking strangeness," "Darknet" recalls browsing on a web site full of strange, sinister material, the episode below consisting of interwoven short horror stories. It also brings to mind "V/H/S" in its bringing in of different directors, in this case Natali's "Splice" producer Steve Hoban (making his directorial debut in the second episode), Brett Sullivan ("Orphan Black"), Rodrigo Gudiño ("The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh") and newcomers Anthony Scott Burns and Jeremy Ball. Natali, Pascal Trottier, Doug Taylor ("Splice"), James Kee, Randall Cole ("388 Arletta Ave") and Sarah Larsen are the writers. The first season of "Darknet" will begin airing on.

Copperheart Entertainment announces that a sneak peak of the first full episode of Darknet, the Canadian horror anthology web and television series designed for the 21st century Internet mindset, will drop on October 31, 2013 at 12:01 Am on www.darknetfiles.com. Darknet is adapted from the cult Japanese television series, Tori Hada, by Vincenzo Natali (Haunter, Splice, Cube) and Steven Hoban (Haunter, Splice, Black Christmas, Ginger Snaps). The online presentation will be followed by a broadcast premiere of the six 30-minute episode series in early 2014 on Super Channel. Director Randall Cole's 388 Arletta Avenue offers a different perspective on the increasingly common and popular "found footage" aesthetic, which now seems to comprise its own genre. Following a (mostly) unsuspecting happily married young couple (Nick Stahl, Mia Kushner), the film is less "found" and more purposefully, covertly captured by a terrifying intruder, whose resulting surveillance footage comprises the narrative of the film. Stillman casts a wry eye across the college campus, and settles on Gerwig's clique of preppy girls who confuse charity with condescension. The result is distinctively articulate, witty, gently surreal and hilariously sarcastic. But as well as parodying these misguided teens, Stillman clearly has great sympathy for them. It's good to have him back.

The surveillance-camera's eye restrictions of this Canadian suburban thriller rarely feel forced

A smart, creepy little Canadian thriller that manages to effectively repackage some fairly shopworn ideas. Nick Stahl and Mia Kirshner play young marrieds in a standard-issue suburban street who find tensions in their relationship are quickly and skilfully exacerbated by an unseen observer to the point of breakdown. Nearly everything is filmed from the point of view of the multitude of surveillance cameras installed by the stalker in home, car and office; it's to director Randall Cole's credit that the device rarely feels forced or extraneous. It all works – just.

Thoughts by Tsr: I wasn’t expecting much from this trailer for 388 Arletta Avenue. I’m starting to get tired of found footage, so this one was at a bit of a disadvantage from the start. Surprisingly, it overcame that hurdle to the point where I’m fairly interested in checking it out. It’s probably not going to reinvigorate my interest in found footage, but it does look just interesting enough for me to give it a chance.

It helps that it doesn’t look exactly like other films of the subgenre. A lot of those are plagued with being too well shot, something that is not true for this film. That may sound like a complaint, but it actually makes the film more appealing to me.

Most of the found footage films we've seen to date feature footage where the individuals in question knew they were on tape but Randall Cole's foray into the found footage thriller takes a different approach which leads to some unexpected difficulties including the fact that we don't know why James and Amy are being targeted. It turns out that this questions isn't even of great importance.

The first trailer for mystery thriller 388 Arletta Avenue has been released by Entertainment One and this feature focuses on a couple living in an innocuous urban neighbourhood where a killer stalks their every move. Crime can happen anywhere, as this picture reminds viewers. All of the footage from 388 Arletta Avenue is shot by the villain through hidden cameras and handeld cam corders. As well, character James' (Nick Stahl) wife, Amy (Mia Kirshner), goes missing and the climax builds with one man trying to solve a string of strange tragedies. Enjoy the clip for this film below.

The Canadian production 388 Arletta Avenue now has a teaser trailer. It's simple really. And does what's it is supposed to: Tease you. You do get a peek at stars Nick Stahl and Mia Kirshner. Randall Cole writes and directs with Vincenzo Natali ( Splice ) serving as an executive producer. Seen entirely from the point of view of hand-held and surveillance cameras, the film tells the story of a couple, Nick Stahl and Mia Kirshner, who do not realize they are being watched. The watching becomes a subtle manipulation which ultimately escalates into a deadly cat-and-mouse game.

A few years ago I had the opportunity to see Randall Cole's Real Time, a little drama about a young guy (Jay Baruchel) who owed some bad people a lot of money and was driven around town to say his final goodbye's by the man who was hired to kill him (Randy Quaid). Featuring good performances from both leads and a great sense of direction from Cole, Real Time was a memorable dramedy that showcased Cole's writing and directing talents.

388 Arletta Avenue is a horror film that was recently shown at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film stars Nick Stahl and Mia Kirshner, as a couple stalked by a killer. This sadist uses hidden video cameras to film his prey, with terror his only motive. There have been a few early reviews from Tiff on this title. 388 Arletta Avenue has been called a "cerebral experience" and full of "interesting concepts" (Twitch). This average review does not really get the blood pumping for a release, but hopefully other reviews will enlighten thriller fans on what to expect from Amy and James' last terror filled moments. This year, the 36th annual Toronto International Film Festival (Tiff), runs for 10 days, from September 8 - 18, 2011.

Tiff organizers provided a celebratory mood for the early afternoon media crowd, with food stations and pastries, complimented by an open bar serving chilled Stella Artois beer and Skyy Vodka.

Tiff 2011 promises a strong lineup of Canadian features including new works by Canadian filmmakers Carl Bessai, Mike Clattenburg, Michael Dowse, Philippe Falardeau, Guy Maddin, Bruce McDonald, Léa Pool, Jean-Marc Vallée and Ingrid Veninger.

"This year saw many Canadian filmmakers address a wide range of pressing social issues," said Steve Gravestock, Associate Director, Canadian Programming, Tiff.

There are a lot of Canadian films screening at the Toronto International Film Festival to be excited about, including works from our favourite filmmakers Guy Maddin, Bruce McDonald,Vincenzo Natali and Jean Marc Vallee. Below is the list of films in the Canada First selections as well as other CanCon movies scattered through the main programs.

No word yet on Stateside distribution for the Vincenzo Natali executive produced thriller 388 Arletta Avenue : ), but six new one-sheets for the flick have debuted online, and of course we have every spooky pixel right here for you to check out.

When we spoke to Vincenzo Natali last December about a film he was producing called 388 Arletta Avenue he shied away from spilling any plot details. It's been described as a cat-and-mouse thriller with Randall Cole directing. Nick Stahl, Mia Kirshner and Devon Sawa starred in the film shot last year up in Canada. If I hadn't known exactly where writer-director Randall Cole was shooting his new thriller I would have missed it. If not for the production assistants keeping watch for traffic on the street corners and star Nick Stahl walking across the street as I approached I'd never have known it was there. The only outward sign that something was off was that the house number was incorrect when compared to the rest of the street.

It's rather fitting that a film revolving around illicit surveillance should keep such a low profile. Anyone who has ever been to a set before can tell you that they are normally big, bulky affairs, location shooting announcing itself with seemingly endless rows of big white trucks, equipment cables snaking across the road and hundreds of orange pylons running up the curbs. There is none of that here, the production maintaining as low a profile as Stahl's unseen observer.

Nick Stahl is best known for his roles in Terminator 3 as John Connor, and as the lead character in HBO's incredible unfinished TV series Carnivale. HBO... I would really love to see the rest of that story, and how it all ends! You totally left us hanging!

Stahl really hasn't done a lot since the show, and I'm not sure why, he's a talented actor. It's been announced that that he will be taking on the lead role in a new film being produced by Splice director Vincenzo Natali. The thriller is called 388 Arletta Ave., and it will be written and directed by Randall Cole.

Shooting has begun on writer-director Randall Cole’s Hitchcockian thriller 388 Arletta Avenue . Don’t be put off by the annoying smiley, the film is described as a “wickedly smart mystery-thriller” by executive producer Vincenzo Natali (Splice), which sees a slight change in direction for Cole, who usually helms comedies (he directed Real Time in 2008 and the disappointing rom-com 19 months in 2002). The film plays with ever present fears surrounding the use and abuse of technology, specifically CCTV, and details a scenario in which a deadly stalker is able to constantly spy on and manipulate a couple using hidden cameras. Dear HBO: Bring back Carnivale.

There. Now that that's out of the way I can get on with the real substance of what Carnivale leading man Nick Stahl is up to these days, namely camping out here in Toronto and taking the lead in writer-director Randall Cole's high tech thriller 388 Arletta Ave.

An obscure sales poster appeared a couple of days ago at the Afm 2010 in La. The poster for '388 Areletta Avenue' simply featured a blurry silhouette in a house with the tagline 'Smile, You're On Camera'. This is a new 'found footage' flick from producer Vincenzo Natali ('Splice', 'Cube') and it's been revealed that writer/director Randall Cole will helm and Nick Stahl ('Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines', 'Mirrors 2') will star. You can check out the poster for yourselves below. Being billed as 'Paranormal Activity' meets 'Rear Window' does make the project sound pretty intriguing. But it's not exactly a fresh idea is it? So let's see what happens. The shoot will commence later this November in Toronto with a 2011 release planned from TF1 whom have just secured distribution rights...

The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television (Acct) have announced the nominees for the 29th Annual Genie Awards. Leading the pack for the awards honoring the best in Canadian film was "The Necessities of Life". The movie about an Inuit hunter stranded in a Quebec hospital collected eight gongs, including best picture, best director for Benoit Pilon and best original screenplay for Bernard Emond.

In the category of best pictures, Pilon's film will be up against "Amal", "Normal", "Passchendaele" and "Everything Is Fine". Meanwhile, for the best original screenplay title, it placed Bernard Emond in competition with Deepa Mehta of "Heaven on Earth", Travis McDonald of "Normal", Randall Cole of "Real Time" and Guillaume Vigneault of "Everything Is Fine".

While "The Necessities of Life" took the most nominations, "Fugitive Pieces", the Samuel Goldwyn Films drama based on best-selling novel by Canadian poet Anne Michaels grabbed six nods. Some of the...
